plunge Rooftop Bar + Lounge

I’ve visited the Gansevoort rooftop a few times now — for drinks after work, to celebrate a birthday, and I’ve come later at night with friends. I’ve had a good experience each time.
The views are spectacular. It’s a great place to have a drink and watch the sunset. They have a variety of cocktail options — the few I’ve tried have all been good, and strong. I would definitely recommend it as a place to bring visitors from out of town.
The only downside is the prices — cocktails are about $ 20 which is pretty steep, even for New York. Although I think it’s worth it for a special occasion!

Came here for my birthday with friends and had an excellent time. Staff was nice drinks were good and so was the music. The view was very pretty especially at night I’ve gone there a few times and each time was great. FYI I’d come before 10pm I heard it gets tough to get in and they may only let you in unless you do bottle service.

The «hidden» garden seemed like the best area to sit. Drinks are expensive, but not that different from other rooftop bars in this area. Went in the middle of the day on a Saturday and there was plenty of seating.

Located atop the Gansevoort Hotel, I’ve been here twice now and both experiences were positive. The second time we got here a little too late so they made us get bottle service, even though there were only 3 of us. Fine. We weren’t going to put up a fight, especially considering the crowd. They first tried to set us up in a secluded area on the perimeter but we weren’t having any of that so instead they set us up right next to the DJ booth, which was pretty boss. We paid about what we expected for Crown Royal considering this is one of the swankiest clubs in NYC.
One con (or pro, depending on how you look at it) is that the place is small and the staff pack in the customers like sardines, which leaves little to no room for dancing. Pros are: great views, good music, pretty decent service, and a great crowd.

Gansevoort is a must-​stop whenever I’m rooftop-​hopping in the Meatpacking District and don’t feel like I’ve had enough douchiness in my life lately. At least the d-​bags at the Standard are as baller as they pretend to be; the ones at G-​voort will throw money like it’s water, but you know they’re crying on the phone to their mommies the next day as they desperately ask for an advance on their next allowance.
Whatevs. It’s still good times if you know how to play it. Here’s what to do:
1) Come during the day. Not only does this filter out 90% of the douchiness, but the views look better in sunlight. See, with a few exceptions such as the glassy Whitney Museum, the actual buildings within the Gansevoort landscape don’t light up nice at night, so you don’t really get that stunning, twinkly, nighttime panorama that you would from, say, Press Lounge in Midtown. Best to see it all in the day. Also, no line.
2) Budget about $ 50 for every two hours you plan to be there. With drinks costing anywhere from $ 18 – 30, this is the going rate to have a good time.
3) Do not expect to sit. I can’t stress this enough. Don’t be the idiot girl in 9″ Fauxboutins who dominoes everyone within a 10-​ft radius because she couldn’t stand and hold her martini at the same time.
4) Similar to #3, do not wear your finest here. Stuff is going to spill on you. I don’t even mean alcohol. I mean, like, body fluids that might require medical testing the next day.
5) Stay on the outer deck after 12am. The interiors not only fill up to max douchebag capacity by then, but it starts to get rank in there. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s all the body fluids.

TLDR: Great rooftop bar, would definitely go back here again.
This place is great! went here for a Saturday night out. Upon arriving, we were offered an immediate in (cut the line) if we sprung for bottle service (1 bottle = $ 400), needless to say we opted to stand in line. 20 minutes later we were greeted by a very polite host, and made our way upstairs. We got here at midnight and there was a solid crowd inside already. Made our way to the bar for a couple drinks ($ 15 for a well drink, as expected), then wandered around a bit. We found a little alcove overlooking the city with many couches and chilled here for a while without being bothered. Loved this spot. Did some dancing then made our way to the next bar.

I first came here in December 2014 when it was called plunge Rooftop Bar + Lounge and it was pretty fun. We (four females, early 30s) walked in, hung out down stairs and then danced upstairs.
I came back a year later, now called Zezura, on Sat November 21, 2015 and was told by the idiot wannabe promoter at the entrance that I had to buy bottle service. I explained to him I had called earlier and the person on the phone said there was no cover charge, just get in before 10p b/​c it gets crowded but he wouldn’t hear of it. We went someplace else!

I think Hotel Gansevoort might just take the cake for pretentious dbags of the Meatpacking District. I feel like this happens all the time. A place is exclusive for a little while and then people find out about it and the scum make their way in. I just feel like I have encountered some real douchey people here. Bartenders and bouncers included. If you are skilled enough to talk your way up or you buy a bottle, you still may get the disappointment of being roped off from the great NYC views this place actually has to offer.
My notions of this place are also summed up when I order a café patron on the rocks with a splash of baileys and I get charged for both a baileys and a café patron separately. $ 26 for a single cocktail is not okay.
Yes I have had great nights here. Has I have been here a lot. But to sum it up, Hotel Gansevort was so 2011. There is always going to be something just as nice, with friendlier people and staff that offer a unique experience… especially in NYC.

Trashy. And more trashy.
People drunk before 6pm. Sloppy, spilling drinks, throwing up everywhere. And this was on a Saturday. Not. Holding. Their. Liquor. Came with a friend. Was completely disgusted. Drinks & space amazing. Clientele was disgusting. Will never come back.

Great views. Nice laid back place with good atmosphere and reasonably nice crowd. It was an awesome summer evening with nice weather, cool breeze and excellent open deck. Music was quite average and drinks overpriced but still a great place to visit atleast once. There is ample seating available. Not to forget, there’s also a pool on the rooftop but it was closed to public so not that fun after all

So we arrive and everything looks dingy… not dirty (except for the filthy old plastic ashtrays)… and we sit down on a sofa. The pillow seat keeps sliding out from under us and, despite «No Smoking» signs every 3 feet, a half dozen guys are puffing away.
We order drinks, which are pretty good, though for $ 18/​glass, they should be amazing.
The plantings ar PLASTIC, the real plants are dry and dying (garden maintanance contract, anyone?) and the ambient light strings were missing bulbs… not burnt out… missing.
Finally, after 45 minutes, our extremely complex dinner (NOT) arrived… cold.
How much does it take to get a hamburger right? They forgot condiments and a slice of tomato.
Then there was my Mediterranean Sandwich, on a foccacia bread that was soggy and tasted like it had been toasted yesterday. The paperthin slice of eggplant was a joke, there was no vinaigrette and instead of the promised waffle fries, they were plain and rather limp, too.
Including tip, this was possibly the worst $ 130 I’ve ever spent, and I’ve lived here a LOOOONG time.
Save your time and money, and go elsewhere.

Zero stars. Went on a Sunday afternoon, called first to find out if there was a cover charge, dress code etc. Walked over a mile to get there. Apparently they are changing their name soon, probably due to poor reviews. The bouncer was not too friendly and informed us that there was minimum bar tab of 75 required for entrance. They should have let us know this when we called. There were only two of us, even with the 15 dollar drinks that would be more than a few and if we didn’t like the scene, we would be stuck.
Very disappointing.

We had a group of 8 girls and had intended to go to Le Beign, but the line was ridiculously long. We spoke with the security at the exit door and he planned to let us in the back door, but then big rush a people paying him (I guess if you’re a guy, you can throw some money at the security and they’ll let you in the exit door right away), so he said he could let only 5 of us in at a time. We weren’t going to separate, so after about 15 minutes, we headed down to plunge.
Plunge had a long line as well, so we went to the table service line and pulled the «we have 8 hot chicks dressed up» card and they let us in after about 10 minutes. I’m sure this didn’t please all the people in line, but I’m glad my nyc-​local friend knew of this trick!
Once on the rooftop, the views of the city were stunning. I was also surprised with how much space there actually was (although it was pretty packed) and that it only took a couple minutes to get a drink. Yes, it is about $ 18 for a cocktail. Drink slow I guess.
I would agree that there were a lot of foreigners here, but that didn’t bother us. There was a good mix of men and women in their 20s and 30s.
As the night went on, we decided it would be easier to just stay there rather than play the waiting game elsewhere. We made some friends who let us sit at their table with them. Later in the night we went inside to dance. There really isn’t room to dance, as there are so many table ‘VIP’ areas. We made friends with guys that had a table, which gave us room to dance.
Overall, not a bad place. It’s mostly worth it for the view!

Ahhhhhhhh taking in the sun with a beautiful view. Top place to stop for a rooftop bar experience but hey you are definitely going to pay for it. $ 18 for a simple mixed cocktail… served in a PLASTIC martini glass. Not so classy I say. I saw a cute pool serving drinks nearby. I suggest other rooftoops if you actually want to stay for more than a simple drink.

Sunshine and rooftop bars just make sense in the summer. If you are looking for a small spot with views then this place is for you. Be aware, the prices for drinks are expensive. My cocktail cost $ 18 and I made sure to sip it slowly and enjoy every sip. Overall the cocktail was just okay, I have definitely had better. You are paying for the name of the swanky Ganesvoort Hotel along with the views. One west wall of the bar has stools facing Hoboken. The North end has a few couches and looks more like a lounge.
If you are looking for a good view and you don’t mind the expensive prices then check this place out. I would recommend arriving before the after work crowd so you have a seat. Be aware, though, happy hour specials are not offered.

A place for scene-​sters to be seen and seen, plunge is a place with lots of ropes, security with walkie-​talkies, and $ 15 – 21 drinks.
But not all is lost!
There’s also a gorgeous view of the city (you can even see the Hudson River, One World Trade Center, and most of the West Village), and plenty of seating by the edge.
There’s an inviting pool area (though the sign says swimming is for Hotel Guests only).
And the drinks aren’t half bad — though doubly overpriced.
My recommendation for this place would be to enjoy it on a nice day out in New York (which there are already too few of), take lots of pictures, and bask in the glory of being in this great city. But I wouldn’t come here every day — it gets old fast.

Came here last night with a group of friends for a birthday around 11:30. This rooftop is so small and crowded, probably one of the most claustrophobic rooftops I’ve been to. Decent view at least.
Got one drink because it’s expected for their prices to be through the roof. $ 15 for a Midori Sour in a plastic cup. yeah, plastic cups. really? Their dress code is classy yet their plastic ikea cups don’t match the bill.
Their crowd seemed like couples and older men, more reason not to stay any longer. My group of friends left after a half hour.

A totally overrated cocktailbar who have served it’s time. It’s time for a change.
First of all the interior. It’s al little bit tacky and very standard. I’ve got the impression that most of the rooms were improvised. Of course it is because I visited this place during the winter but still it was not a very classy solution.
Then the cocktails. You are a cocktailbar. Cocktails are your core business. Why, just why, get I before prepared cocktails? And not even that, but they are really boring too. No secret ingredients, not a little spicyness, nothing at all. And of course totally overpriced. And please don’t ever serve my cocktail in a plastic glass.
Sorry, I’ve seen much better.

Rooftop bar.
Ok — so we had to give it a visit since my girl is not a city girl– whereas I grew up here and have always loved hanging out on the roof of just about any building…
Situated at the top of the Ganesvoort Hotel– it is a snap to get to it — at least during the day when we went in order to avoid the retards that pack it out at night.
That being said, the prices are ridiculous…$ 32 for two drinks. C’mon. I am not a tourist, give me a break. On the other hand, the views are spectacular and we had the entire place to ourselves… so it was probably the best $ 32 I have spent in a while.
There were people in the pool which was fine enough for some eye candy and the place is decently sized and nicely appointed…
So my advice is: go, shell out for a drink, have a look around then go find one of the many hundreds of pubs that will serve you $ 5 cocktails all night…

I’ve been here many times on many different days of the week over the past few years. Late Saturday nights, after dinner on week nights, bottle service birthday parties — the whole nine. While i love trendy rooftops, especially in the Summer, this place is certainly not the best the City has to offer.
The drinks are not very strong, and are highly overpriced, even for Meatpacking. It usually takes 10 – 15 minutes to get a cocktail at the bar. The good things about the Gansevoort are the available seating that wraps around a large portion of the roof (although it seems to always be full) and the view. However, there is a pool and you can be outside when its raining as the roof is somewhat enclosed — its got that outside but sort of inside feeling (giggity).
I would not recommend coming here on a Saturday. The bouncers make you wait like its the gates of heaven and sometimes only let you up if you get bottle service. However if you do decide on a Saturday, get there early — 9:30 pm the latest; capacity is reached VERY quickly. They usually have a decent DJ on Saturdays and i think they may even have one on select weeknights.
The crowd up top is always very mixed. I’ve met ladies on a bachelorette party from Ohio, German Central Bankers and douchey 21 year old Plad wearing Pacha heads. Gansevoort has a very fancy clubbish feeling so people are usually dressed on the higher end. The are purple-​ish neon lights around the bar with retro artwork and a modern couch/​lounge room with a fireplace were the DJ plays.
Overall, id say yea, sure, check it out but i really cant rave about this place like i used to. It was the first rooftop i had ever been to so now that ive been around the rooftop bar block ive got to down grade it.
