Photo Tech did an amazing job repairing my Nikon D3200. I dropped is shattering the screen while also managing to break a few other internal parts. Repairs are typically completed in 3 – 5 days but i asked if it were possible to get it done closer to the 3 day mark as I am leaving for vacation. I dropped my camera off on a Monday, received my quote on a Tuesday and they called me on the weds saying my camera was ready for pick up. Amazing!

I took my Sony A77 in for a cleaning. I was getting spots on all my pictures due to dirt on the inside of the camera. They fixed it in a few hours! I will be back.

Great service overall — would highly recommend. I dropped off a Nikon lens on a Monday, and received it on the Friday in Boston (mailed). While the repair wasn’t cheap, the service is top notch. They provided an accurate turnaround time over the phone, and repaired it very quickly. Would definitely visit them again for anything Nikon-​related.

Great place repaired my Nikon lens quickly and it now works as good as new. I received an email when my lens was ready to pick up. I got it repaired through a warranty so I didn’t put anything but it seems like the prices are reasonable.

Had my Nikon D7100 camera and lens cleaned here last month and they did an excellent job. The price was fair and it was ready when they promised.
As I commute through Penn Station, they are only a block away. What more could one ask for? I plan on coming back for my camera and lens repair needs.

Although both myself and my husband have used photo tech in the past and have overall been pleased, our experience this week completely left me at a loss of words. On Tuesday of this week, I dropped off my nikon d750 which was having shutter issues. Upon drop off, the employee at the front desk did an excellent job at figuring out that the mirror was getting stuck and not allowing the shutter to do its job, nonetheless I left the camera there that afternoon and called in the next day to confirm my beliefs that the shutter needed to be replaced and the sequence of operations needed to be fixed according to the employee on the phone. I received a quote of about 345 $, which I definitely didn’t mind paying but before proceeding with the repair I decided to phone nikon and let them know what my issue was, after giving them the serial number, they told me that my d750 was in a batch of detective d750s and told me to send it in so they could replace the shutter free of charge. I then decide it would be a good idea to phone photo tech to ask if the sequence of operations was having issues because of the shutter or if it was a completely separate issue. I immediately called photo tech back and got a lady on the phone, who didn’t really sound like she knew what was talking about and didn’t answer my questions about whether or not the sequence of operations was being affected by the shutter so I proceeded in telling her that my nikon was a defective model and I would pick it up that afternoon since I had a wedding this past weekend and would mail it out to nikon on monday morning. Well I picked up my camera on Wednesday afternoon and leave it in the camera bag, until yesterday’s wedding day. As I’m taking my test shots I notice something is completely wrong. I’m taking shots and I’m getting huge black spots on my pictures, and black square areas on my photos. After testing it over and over, changing lenses a few times, we shake the camera only slightly and notice that there are pieces on the inside that are loose and out of place, causing the d750 to not even be able to take pictures, it wouldn’t even AUTOFOCUS! And wouldn’t let me snap not one picture! Which was NOT an issue we had prior to dropping it off at photo tech. Thank god for bringing back up cameras along with us to the wedding but nonetheless the d750 is my primary camera and this was a huge disappointment. I’m convinced photo tech did a crappy job of putting the camera back together since we chose not to get it repaired there. Our d750 will be sent to nikon first thing tomorrow morning with hopes they’ll be able to undo the damage photo tech caused. Thanks for nothing guys. We definitely won’t be back.

You know some guys are so good you wish to keep them for yourself. But I really want to share my experience cause it’s the best I’ve had with a photo repair service. I’ve been fixing my lenses, cameras, flashes for last 6 years with Photo Tech+Chrysler Service team: gear is back to unused version. So quick. Least price possible. Plus — warranty. And such a warm atmosphere. All stress with a last minute urgent repair is gone. And a very convenient location — steps from B&H, — if you need to get quick parts. Today they fixed my canon 50 mm 1.2 in 2 hrs. Wow. Thank you PTRS team!

Needed my lens fixed when I accidentally bumped it. They were very helpful and quick. Just dropped it off with deposit and told me to call Monday for price. Got the repair quote and it lens was fixed in about 4 days in my case. I like the year warranty that come with the lens repair but I’m not planning on have the need to ruin the lens again but glad to know it is there just in case. Everything was smooth and really the only complaint is the hours of operation which is only M-​F and they are all the way on 9^th and 36^th. I guess you have do what you got to do to repair the lens.

These guys are magicians. I have a pretty expensive piece of Konica Minolta glass (70−200÷2.8 G SSM), the lens produced by the company which is now long gone from the photo business and which served as the foundation for Sony photo business. Sony produces the same lens, but when my lens failed on me they refused to service it, claiming the lack of spare parts. I’ve tried to send it to KEH, Precision Camera, contacted a few other repair companies across the US and all to no avail.
Then I found a reference to some other company on DPreview forums, contacted them and they told me that they can try, but I’d better talk to Photo Tech first because they are the experts. And indeed they are. A couple of weeks later I have my lens, perfectly in shape, no problem with «spare parts» and I’m happy as ever. I really missed this piece, even bought a cheaper Sony alternative (70−200÷4 FE) and happily sold it a few days ago.
The price for the service was totally OK, I’ve paid about $ 400 total including shipping both ways. They ship with FedEx ground (not sure if insured, I guess not) and it takes a while.
Some people in reviews below complain about communications. I’m totally happy with their comms, they were quick and honest at initial handshake and very responsive after I’ve sent them the lens.

This is my second excellent experience at PhotoTech, both times for a canon dslr body (years ago my 50D, this week my 6D) that exceeded shutter actuations and needed to be replaced. Both times the job was done immediately (repair was supposed to take 3 to 5 days, was completed in 1 day). The company called me to let me know my camera was ready for pick up, and they were professional and helpful. Rich, Francis, and Awilda were the people I dealt with. Highly recommend this repair spot for your electronics. Not an inexpensive shop but very much worth the money. Expect to pay a small fee (goes to your repair cost) for an estimate/​diagnosis.

I would never go here again and you shouldn’t either.
Dropped off my camera for an inspection to confirm if it had a defect or not. It’s under warranty but Rich said someone would call me the next day with the results or assessment. I did not get a call so I called around 6pm and got the rudest woman on the planet on the phone after being put on hold and hung up on the first time I called.
This rude woman proceeds to tell me my camera is being repaired. I said ‘whoa wait a minute. I never authorized that! Someone was supposed to call me. That’s what Rich said. He never said they would not call me and just go ahead and crack it open and start working on it!’ I need the camera for a class coming up so I need to decide if I want to do any repair now or after the class. If he had told me they would automatically do a repair without consulting me I would have taken the camera back home with me right then and there because it’s still useable and brought it back another time.
This woman had no empathy and got defensive. She tells me ‘well this is our standard protocol for warranty repairs so what do you want ME to do about it?!‘
I told her the first thing she should have said was to apologize for the confusion for the fact Rich told me one thing and they are doing something different. Obviously I was upset and she should have better sense than to get upset back at me all because I’m upset at what they are doing. That’s someone who SHOULD NOT BE WORKING THERE if the management had any sense whatsoever. Her actions alone tell me I would never want to deal with that place again after this.
Finally she goes and checks and comes back and tells me ‘actually they haven’t started the repair yet it is sitting on the repair technicians’ desk.’ So I’m wondering why she said they had in the beginning then without checking? She also tells me I can call tomorrow to talk to the manager or to Rich. I told her I want no one to touch my camera until they speak with me about the analysis and prognosis and also that I would try to make a personal trip into the store as well.
I am so angry that not only can they not do what they told me they would do but then have such a lousy uncaring person on the other end of the phone who feels I have no right to be upset and it’s not her job to apologize for her company’s missteps. Having worked in retail in the past, I have zero patience or tolerance for shitty customer service and people who do not understand the concept of the customer experience. One simple apology and effort to get to the bottom of it and try to resolve it would have helped alleviate so much of my anger but instead I got a defensive bitter woman with no care how customers are treated.

Took my camera in today to get the sensor cleaned. The price for that was comparable to Nikon’s service center in Melville — cheaper actually if you factor in the shipping or toll and gas to drive there. However, the main reason I chose Photo Tech was that they were able to do the cleaning in just 1 hour as opposed to 7 – 10 days with the manufacturer. Paul at the counter was a delight to work with and explained the procedure and results thoroughly. Thanks for the wonderful customer service.

I bought a used Sigma 50 mm 1.4 lens online. It turns out the focus motor was bad. I felt $ 200 for the repair was more than fair. They called me a few times about the repair. I felt it was a great customer service experience and the repair was completed quickly.

Way too expensive. For same problem with my lens they quoted $ 500 while a Nippon competitor charged me $ 300 for a perfect repair.

They took my camera and said i could call for an estimate. I called. Eight times. Left messages. No call back. Assuming they lost my beautiful camera. Heading there in person to find it. Appalling.
Update: i called and finally got a human being who said «we don’t call you, you have to call us.» No apology, just … Attitude.
Be careful. This place is a black hole for cherished and expensive equipment.

I recently had a repair done for a Canon 35 mm lens I had dropped years ago by Photo Tech. I was worried they wouldn’t be able to fix it because I’d already tried multiple places, but the 1 year warranty that comes with every repair Photo Tech makes made me feel better. I’ve received my lens and used it at a wedding yesterday with no problems! Generally when repaired by previous places, it wouldn’t take long for the lens to go back to not being able to focus. So I know it’s been repaired properly because I used it all day with out any problems.
Most people would’ve gotten rid of it after having it repaired twice to no avail, but I have a tendency to get attached to inanimate objects. I’ve very glad I didn’t because I would’ve had to pay full price for a brand new one, but instead it works like brand new because of Photo Tech. Thanks guys!

I brought them my Panasonic Lumix DMC-​FZ35, which is a kind of fancy point-​and-​shoot; original cost about $ 250.The problem was thast the zoom lens wouldn’t zoom much – just a wee bit – and they said the next day that repair would cost about $ 160 for parts and labor. Of course, the camnera wasn’t worth it, being already 3yrs old. But just before tossing in the trash I thought what the hell, what about a lube job? So with a Q-​tip I dabbed all around the lens a little Boeshield T-​9, which is what the smart money uses instead of WD-​40 because Boeshield doesn’t stain or ruin paint and rubber. I let it sit for a minute and then tried the zoom. It worked just fine and has continued working fine ever since. Total cost: since I had the Boeshield already and my wife had the Qtips, ZERO.
Frankly I’m inclined to think that many repair shops take advantage of customers, especially on their labor charges. Most of the time fixing digital cameras is a matter of a little diagnosis followed by unscrewing the bad part and screwing in a new one.
A guy who knows NOTHING about cameras avoids a $ 160 repair charge with just a dab of lubricant? This shouldn’t happen.

I brought a lens here to get a repair estimate and was impressed with the smoothness of the operations. However, they then ended up quoting me over $ 300 in repairs for an $ 800 lens, saying many parts needed to be replaced.
Inherently distrustful of any sort of repair place where you’re at their mercy (e.g. Auto mechanics), I said I’d think about it and looked for another place for a second opinion. My search lead me to Martys Camera repair in Queens, where they replaced one part for $ 120 and it works flawlessly.
I have no doubt that phototech does good work but they also make up issues and overcharge to fix them. I’d go to martys every time now.

Fantastic fantastic place. My Sony RX1R died and they took it in under warranty, repaired it and popped it out in a day, once the piece they needed arrived. Unfortunately, it took Sony two weeks to get them the part.
But they are great!!!

Photo Tech did it again — they fixed my Canon 5d Mark 3 that had a jammed back button which required the top to be replaced. Mailed it out and got it back looking brand new in only 7 days. Highly recommend.

Love this place. And they like cookies. No joke, I offered cookies and they got my minor repair done quickly. I was from out of town and I didn’t want to have to come back on another day. Cheaper also. Didn’t want to send it in thru my local camera store. They would have charged me $ 150 just to put it in a box and ship in.

Googled the photo repair shop I used to go to on 13^th Street. Got a hit on Photo Tech near Union Square and an address of 360 W. 36^th Street. It turns out they had moved, obviously. I mention that just to make sure that others wondering where they went understand this is the place that used to be on 13^th Street.
Superior service — needed my Lumix ZS15 blown out since it had gotten some dust on the imaging chip. They did the job right away — dropped it off, went to lunch and went back to pick it up. I discovered that since they had just inspected the camera, I could buy insurance for one year of major repairs for $ 15 ($ 25 deductible).
I am very happy with the service I received this time and in the past. A very good sign of how they operate happened to the tourist standing next to me at the counter. He was picking up the «dead» phone he had dropped off earlier. He wanted to know the repair cost. He was shocked (so was I) when the technician said there was no charge — they had opened the phone, wiggled some connectors and it was fine. They said they couldn’t charge him since they didn’t actually repair it.
I don’t think you need to worry about not being treated fairly in this place.

I LOVE this company, they really help solve problems and quick! These days manufacturers just want to buy NEW stuff so they make it so difficult to fix something. If you dare try to fix it, it’s a long wait and could be really expensive. That said, the friendly staff at Phototech were able to repair my broken Ipad the same day. I was surprised how simple they made it. Located on the ground floor they were easy to find too!

I came in with a broken lens — the focus was not working at all on my canon T3. The next day they called me back and had fixed it. It works perfectly now, and the quoted price was just what they charged me.
I came in around 4 or 5 pm both times and there wasn’t much of a wait. A bit more so on the Monday than on the Tuesday when I picked it up, but nothing terrible. In fact, in Tuesday there were only two people waiting in front of me! Such quick service, and the staff was very friendly.
I know this was probably an easy fix since this is a newer and very common camera, but I would definitely recommend this spot for repairs in the future.

After trying to clean my own camera sensor, I scratched and dirtied up my viewfinder plate. I went to PhotoTech, and the service repairman replaced the viewfinder plate and cleaned the sensor in under 10 minutes. Fast, swift, decisive! And inexpensive to boot.

A much-​needed update to my most recent experience at Photo Tech:
My prior review will address the condition that I sent my Canon 60D in, as well as the immediate, inoperable state that it was returned in. Unfortunately, I spent the following weekend without a functioning camera, but received an email late Sunday evening from Michael N., Photo Tech’s Operations VP, addressing my initial complaint. He apologized for the error, and encouraged me to bring in the camera so they could look into it.
The following morning, I returned to Photo Tech’s office and attempted to explain the situation to the representative at the desk, whom I had never spoken to before. I was more than slightly frazzled, and it wasn’t until Michael came to the desk and introduced himself that I was able to breathe easier. He took a look at the camera and tested a few of the buttons and dials, apologizing again for the condition it had been returned in; he promised that one of their technicians would look into it promptly and was willing to give me a loaner Canon in the indefinite interim I was camera-​less.
That afternoon, I received a call from Michael letting me know that a defective cover was at fault, and that after his initial assessment, the camera seemed to be fully operable. When I asked if I could drop by later that day before they closed to pick it up, he said it wouldn’t be an issue, especially as he’d keep an eye on it until then to check the battery drain issue. When I returned to Photo Tech after leaving work, I was informed that a one-​year warranty had been granted to my camera, which is a policy they don’t typically give for partial repairs.
I haven’t had any issues with my camera since, and everything has been operating smoothly. I do commend Photo Tech for handling well a situation that could have become pretty disastrous (I had already started mentally preparing myself to buy a new DSLR), and no, I wouldn’t rule out a return for a future service.

I used Unilocal to find the best camera repair shop, and this is it. They replaced the LCD screen on my camera perfectly in a very short time.
I had emailed for an estimate on Saturday, when they are closed. Before receiving the estimate, on Monday, I brought the camera to the shop, and was charged for the repair. Then, I received the emailed estimate (from Mike) which was lower than the amount I was charged. When I went to pick up the camera, there was a note on the ticket to charge the lower amount, rather than the higher amount that I had already paid. The difference was refunded. Then, Mike gave me helpful information about preserving my LCD screen in the future.
I appreciate the good-​quality service, the honesty, and the friendliness of this shop.
