Dr. Philip E. Stieg is one of the top neurosurgeons in the United States and is routinely named to lists of America’s Top Doctors, Best Doctors, and SuperDoctors. He is Neurosurgeon-​in-​Chief of NewYork-​Presbyterian/​Weill Cornell Medical Center, Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Weill Cornell Medical College, and Director of the Weill Cornell Brain and Spine Center.

Dr. Stieg specializes in cerebrovascular disorders such as aneurysms, AVMs, intracranial hemorrhage, and carotid artery occlusion, and has additional expertise in disorders of the facial nerves (such as trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm) as well as in acoustic neuromas. Dr. Stieg is widely published and has an international reputation as an expert in neurosurgery.

Dr. Stieg leads a team of more than dozen full-​time clinical faculty, who specialize in all aspects of neurosurgery, including spine surgery, brain tumor surgery, pediatric neurosurgery, pituitary surgery, and epilepsy surgery.

Established in 2000.

The Weill Cornell Brain and Spine Center was established in 2000 as a separate unit of the NewYork-​Presbyterian/​Weill Cornell Medical Center. The hospital, voted #1 in New York by US News and World Report, has a long history of serving patients and advancing science through research and education.

With the establishment of the Weill Cornell Brain and Spine Center, the Weill Cornell Medical College and NewYork-​Presbyterian/​Weill Cornell Medical Center placed neurological surgery among its highest priorities. We are now rated third in the nation for neurology and neurological surgery, and first in New York.

Under Dr. Stieg’s guidance, the Weill Cornell Brain and Spine Center had grown to be a large and diverse practice, with clinical experts across the complete range of neurosurgical disorders, from back pain to brain tumors to Parkinson’s disease.

Dr. Philip Stieg is a world-​renowned neurosurgeon with expertise in cerebrovascular disorders and skull base surgery. He is the Chairman and founder of the Weill Cornell Brain and Spine Center, the leading neuroscience patient care center in New York City.
