This place is one of those immediately charming establishments, with nice candle-​lit tables that populate the the very spacious and well-​decorated interior. To be entirely frank, I had a very pleasant first experience up until about 11pm.
Initially, a friend and I arrived at ~9:30pm, and decided to get a table as we were expecting another friend to join us some time later. The bar was already fairly crowded, so a table seemed to make the most sense. Our hostess informed us that we would be required to buy something off of the food menu if we were to sit at a table. No big deal. Drinking and good conversation with friends often works up an appetite, so why the fuck not order some $ 8 wings? Wasn’t really that hungry, but they were good wings and we wanted a spot at a table.
Well, fast-​forward to about 11pm, and the place starts to really liven up. The music selection is good, the floor becomes a little more crowded, and it seems fun. We had seating near the left interior wall of the building as you walk in, next to a window. The bar gets more crowded by the minute, and looks more like an undergraduate bar with every admitted patron. But like I give a fuck, I have a table. A table that I paid to sit at by ordering wings I didn’t really want. I didn’t need to interact with/​or be near the mass of tangible sexual frustrations amassing in the center of the bar, nor did I need to navigate around the spastic, trashy dancing of carnally desperate characters. Why? BECAUSE I HAD A FUCKING TABLE! But as the wad of intoxicated patrons grew, the waitstaff began to move tables and chairs out of the way. It made sense. All of the unoccupied seats should be moved so that they can maximize space to accommodate thirsty little shits. I get that; it’s business. And it seemed slightly inconvenient for my friend and I to be seated right in the path of the waitstaff, but what-​the-​shit-​ever it’s where they seated us, and it’s where we paid to be. Only at 11:30, when about 3 occupied tables remained, and the amount of shitshow in the center of the bar had reached critical mass, did it become too inconvenient for the waitstaff to move around the table that they seated us at. My friend and I were told that we had to leave from our seating because the table had to be moved, while other tables closer to the nooks near the front of the establishment remained occupied.
I don’t know if I’ll really ever stop asking myself «what the actual fuck is this shit about?». Because i have never been told to leave my waitstaff-​approved seating at any time in any establishment in the history of anything. What’s worse is that we were offered no other alternatives. No other more convenient seating arrangements were even available. It’s like, «tough shit, paying customers who we seated here specifically. We need to make room for more paying customers to pump some liquid confidence down their booze chutes and be social young adults». That’s cool I guess. It’s like one of those awful pranks where the super douche nozzle does injurious things to people, and gets defensive when his victims complain about being physically harmed and in immense pain, and responds with «it’s a prank bro, chill it’s just a prank.» while pointing frantically at the camera. Except in the case of Phebe’s, there is no hidden camera and the waitstaff are actually just being massive pube goobers.
NYC has so many more places to eat at and not be treated like shit. I’ll keep and eye out for them instead, and steer clear of this place.

We stopped here for drinks after a day of walking around Manhattan. It’s a laid back bar on Lower East side. Cool ambience with a neighborhood feel. Background music is rock with lots of Guns n’ Roses who I bet is coming to NYC on their summer 2016 tour. (I wonder where they’ll play, MSG?) Anyway, there is a decent selection of draft and bottled beers that run $ 7. The wife tried the Mony Mony ($ 12) and really liked it, but it is so tasty that you drink it fast and want more. There are some other places in the neighborhood that I want to try but I would return here.

The happy hour and specials are good, and they have a lot of space including 2 bars. That’s good. I wasn’t a big fan of the food because of price and substance but I guess I’d go back during one of the specials — if you wanted to go. Otherwise, I’ll take my butt back to Jackson Heights.

Killer sweet potato fries! They made for awesome drunk food on Sunday afternoon after a day of day drinking. Love the open area around the bar, makes it easy to socialize and fit with a group of people. Awesome gin and tonic! Best I’ve had in a while. I’ll be back!

Also, I plan on being back at a reasonable and family-​friendly hour or during a sporting event as I see from other reviews and from friends it’s a great place to watch a game and bar food!

Saw this spot on Unilocal so I decided to drag the hubby with me after seeing that they have a Wednesday special — 10 cent Wings after 8pm with the purchase of a pitcher of beer… I’m a whiskey girl but I’ll change for some wings… The wings were good, they came in Hot, Mild, and BBQ, so we did 30 wings — two hot and one BBQ with some seasonal Sam Adams. I don’t drink beer all the time but Sam was tasting pretty good! The hostess that seated us was nice and gave us a good table, and our waitress after she realized she accidently overlooked us was on her game — she was really nice, informative and attentive to our needs. Granted we waited about 10 –15 minutes before she waited on us but the place was busy and it was evident it was a simple oversight given all the tables that were going and coming in…
So, good food, good beer, great service, yet 2 Stars… Well the thing that really changed my opinion about this place was the security guard posted towards the front of the bar. SOOOO my husband and I entered Phebe’s and as soon as we get in we’re asked for our ID so I brush it off like okay its a bar they do that stuff… but while I’m digging in my wallet for my ID I see a couple just walk-​in from behind us and go about they’re business. Then when I finally find my ID, two guys just walk in past us without being checked at all… Then while we’re seated I noticed the security guy is no longer by the door and when we’re getting ready to leave we saw him start moving back towards the door and stays there until we leave… That right there left an extremely bad taste in my mouth no matter the positives — I don’t like places that seem to go the extra mile to make me feel uncomfortable or different and their security right there took the cake… I don’t know where he did his training but last time I checked at the very least you’re supposed to make a paying customer feel welcomed!!!
It’s a good Wednesday night deal… there were plenty of TV’s inside so it looked like a good spot to watch sports or for a sporting event… but I’ll most likely not return to this spot…

Phebes tavern looks like what you imagine a tavern would look like. They have seating at the bars and around the outer edge near the windows. Then there’s a large open floor space, maybe it’s intended for dancing on the weekends or maybe just to keep all the drinkers near the bar
Wednesday is wing night. They have 10 cent wings when you order a pitcher of beer (only drafts) after 8pm. You can order in sets of 10 and they have 3 flavors; bbq, hot and mild. The wings were a decent size and tasted good. We got a pitcher of Sam Adams, not a real beer drinker but it was ok. Well worth the wings and fun that was had
Besides feeling like we were the only people that got carded upon arrival and having to wait 15 minutes to be acknowledged by someone… service was very good. Waitress was attentive, and friendly. Earned her tip
They have specials 5 days a week. happy hour from 5 – 7. Check their menu for the best day for you. It’s Wednesday for me

I was having a preverbal meltdown on this side of town on a cold April day and this was literally the first place I saw that I THOUGHT would serve a decent steak.
I walked in with a friend and we were immediately seated towards the back near windows. I had a good view of the TV (to watch the Nets play) and to people watch so I was genuinely happy. Our server came out introduced herself and I immediately ordered some cheap Cab (who knows). We immediately ordered a bacon Mac and cheese. It’s was good… Nothing too outstanding. I’d recommend that they BAKE it to really get that stuck together homemade mac and cheese feel.
It was still enjoyable nonetheless and we demolished it in a matter of minutes. My friend ordered their burger and I ordered their steak. I asked for medium and basically got a well done steak. I didn’t complain because honestly at this point in my fun filled day I was exhausted and told the server to box it. I did mention to her that the steak was over cooked but she didn’t ask me if I’d like a recooked one. Apparently my friends burger was a tad bit dry but he finished it off due to hunger pains within.
Most likely won’t be returning. I’m sure it’s s good neighborhood staple for some but I’m ok with traveling with snacks from now on.

Came here for brunch. It has a wooden décor with brick walls. It’s spacious with a lot of seatings. There are sport games playing on LEDs. Now the food, I ordered a smoked salmon potato cakes. It’s large portion with good prices. It came with a mimosas or coffee. But taste-​wise, it’s medicore and no-​frills.
There are a fair amount of beer selections.

One of my favorite bars in NYC. They have fantastic bar-​style food and in my opinion the best Guinness around lower Manhattan.
It’s worth checking this place out for both of it’s personas… the weekday restaurant-​bar where the food and drinks are great, and the weekend bar where the atmosphere is great and everyone’s dancing.

This place made me feel like I hopped into a time machine back to my early twenties.
Tons of young people dancing to loud 90s music that they would probably consider vintage.
Crowded bar area. Rude bouncers. People stumbling out into the night.
Really makes you think about your mortality, y’know?

Stopped by here for lunch and I’m thoroughly surprised at the quality of food and their prices. The place is laid back and wasn’t busy when we were there, but the space is also really big so it doesn’t feel stuffy. I got a chicken dish (chicken with fingerling potatoes and sautéed spinach) for $ 10! My lunch mate got the burger with mash potato and a salad also for a whopping $ 10! You can’t beat that considering the area. The only complaint is that my sautéed spinach was over salted. The kitchen also forgot to take the mayo off of the burger even though it was stated when the order was placed. But that is a small oversight that would not deter us from coming back.

I love this place! There is definitely a younger crowd, but it isn’t as grimy and full of college students as some other places. Drinks are cheap, its a fairly big space, and the back room usually has more space. This is definitely one of those places I always go to if I’m going out in the East Village.
I’ve only been here to go out, but my friend got food here and said its good and fun for that too.

Decent wings… basically bar food and drink specials during hh and days. I recommend coming here Wed for the 10 cent wings and cheap pitchers.
It does get pretty crowded after work but it’s a good spot to catch up with friends and grab a bit to eat.

New York is a great place to watch any sporting event because you can find a bar dedicated to your team. I accompanied Grant to Phebe’s Tavern and Grill which is solely a Cincinnati Bangles bar. The place was crowded but not packed on week 17. The crowd were all diehard fans dressed in Black and Orange. I saw an ugly sweater with «who dey,» a tiger stripe tie, scarfs, jerseys, and baseball with a tiger tail. After half a beer we were seated in the back room. All of the TVs were tuned to the Bengals — Ravens game.
I drank a couple yeunglings on draft ($ 7) and tried my first «3 way» which is a Cincinnati classic from Skyline Chili Restaurant chain ($ 9). The regional dish is stemmed spaghetti covered in chili and then topped with a handful of shredded cheese and (optional oyster crackers). The actual ingredients are a well kept secret but the rumor is that it has chocolate and cinnamon. It’s all meat if you want beans (you have to order a 4-​way). Grant said it was close but the sauce was too thick and cheese was a bit off.
I also had 2 cheese coney dog ($ 8) which is just a hot dog covered skyline chili, cheese, onions. I haven’t met a chili dog that I didn’t like.
The best part was when the Bengals scored a touchdown, the whole erupted in a chant:
«Who dey, who dey, who dey think gonna beat dem Bengals?»
«Nobody.»

TL;DR Wednesdays are 10cent wings with a purchase of a pitcher of beer after 8 .
WHATTTT??? 10CENT WINGS!!? prepare to lose money! They limit you to 30 wings, but that’s more than enough for me. That’s right! I would just eat 30 by myself if my friends weren’t around. These aren’t your itsy bitsy tiny wings either. They’re quite large.
I would have to say that you need to eat them quite fast as after the 45 minute mark the wings get a bit too soggy from the sauce.
They have a good selection of beers. Be warned, this is not a craft beer joint and they do not advertise themselves as so. They do have their own ale, which i do not recommend. There were some sour vinegar-​ish notes to mine. Not a big fan.
This is a great place to just sit back, watch some sports and unwind.

New York is such a culinary destination, with the bar set so high it can almost be unfair. Outside of a major city, Phebe’s would be an above average choice, but in the East Village it feels like a little bit of a letdown when you think about some of the other places you could have eaten instead.
There’s no real ambiance to speak of, more of a bar than a restaurant, and even sitting in a booth by the front windows we were sitting right under a big TV. The menu has some solid choices, bar food but definitely a cut above the average dive bar or sports pub. Our party of four ordered four different substantial sandwiches and four different types of fries (waffle, straight, tots, and sweet potato) and nobody was disappointed. My burger was just a little overdone, closer to medium-​well than medium rare, and I didn’t quite get much of the flavor of the Jack Daniels sauce it was supposedly cooked in, but it still hit the spot. The beer list was underwhelming, with almost exclusively macrobrews to choose from, not impressive in this day and age of the craft beer explosion.
I wouldn’t recommend this over many of the other great options within easy walking distance, but if you didn’t make a reservation anywhere and are getting shut out by long wait times, you could do a lot worse than the hearty fare and solid service you’ll get here.

This place is super bro-​y. If you’re looking for recent college grads who may or may not have been in frats or finance interns this is the place to go. Not my cup of tea, they pretty much play the same music every time I’ve been – a mix of dance and top 40.
The drinks are pretty middle of the road price wise as is the selection. It gets super crowded on the weekends and the ratio is pretty split although the scale usually tips on favor of more guys.
There are always huge groups there for whatever reason, so it’s not really a great place to meet people.
I’ve only ever come at the behest of friends, and so, needless to say, this isn’t really my scene. I would definitely never come here if I was choosing where to go, but it’s also not terrible so I’m pretty ‘meh’ about it.

I typically go to Phebe’s at night. Well, not recently. It’s a big post-​grad or intern spot. They recently gave it a little bit of an upgraded/​cute look!
I went here for BRUNCH with my boyfriend around 2pm on Saturday. It wasn’t that crowded — it was really nice and relaxing. I’d definitely come back for a casual brunch. It’s a quick spot in my area and the food and ambience is good. The drink deal is from 1−4pm. With an order of eggs, if you pay an extra $ 15, you can have endless sangria or mimosas. I’d say that’s pretty good!
RESTAURANT OVERVIEW:
–There are a ton of tables throughout the place, all situated near open windows (if it’s warm they are open).
–I’d come with a group of friends or one of one with someone for brunch. Especially if you are looking for a brunch endless drink deal. Other than that, I usually avoid this place at night in the Summer. It’s a bit less crowded in the other months since the interns are gone. However, if you are post-​grad or an intern, this is the spot to go out and meet people.
BRUNCH:
–Baked Cheddar Eggs: This was good! It would have been better if the cheese was mixed in. It was great on the top, but then once you got a bit deeper into the dish there was a lack of cheese. The mixed in peppers and onions were yummy and the toast on the side was good.
–Avocado Toast with Poached Eggs: YUM!!! I love avocado toast so much! I loved this. I’d get this again.
SERVICE:
–No complaints.

Phebe’s (without the O) has been a long time sole food staple in this East Village Bowery– Lafayette– East 4^th Street since 1968. The primary business of this area until 2010 era has been garages and gas stations. A modern American Tavern atmospheric wooden setting. Party of two for Sunday brunch we ordered:
Classic Caesar $ 10.00 (with shrimp $ 6.00) — insufficient dressing, the greens were somewhat browning, jumbo butterfly shrimp were good
Nachos $ 12.00 (with ground beef $ 3.00) — overwhelming with too much toppings loaded on top of another. Come extremely hungry to eat your fill with this order from the Tavern menu.
Twin Chili Dogs $ 10.00– swimming with too much Chili sauce
Cappuccino $ 3.50
Soda $ 3.00
Service is somewhat attentive. Window tables have a railing for women’s bags and small objects to be rested. No comment on libations as neither of us intake any. When inquiring to our waitress about their Belgian Waffles of the «strawberry butter» it brings total disappoint to me as it is an imitation by preservatives not using actual fresh strawberry fruit.
