this place is horrific. it’s shocking that puppy stores are still legal in 2016 and that ignoramuses still shop at them. the puppies are in crappy condition, most of them with discharge pooled around their eyes. they are miserable with nothing soft to lay on, no toys to play with, no water to drink. the men who work here are horrible excuses for humans. you cannot play with the puppies because it «stresses them out.» are you kidding me? having kind human interaction for a few minutes is stressful for them? please stop acting like you care. YOU, owners and managers, are stressing these poor puppies out. you are pimps, you keep these puppies in terrible conditions and claim that those who want to show them love for a few minutes are the problem? pathetic. i will do everything i can to get these losers out of business.
pS– they claim you can hold the puppy only if you intend on buying THAT DAY. meaning they do NOT vet the people who they are selling to, as rescues do, and do not care what happens to the dogs. they only want their money and want you to take the puppy and get out. i could be a freaking dog butcher and intend on eating it– they don’t care. pathetic wastes of air.

Honestly very upset by this puppy store. We walked in and the first thing we saw were mainly empty plastic boxes and a few miserable puppies trying to escape their cages. It’s a disgrace how they’re treating these puppies.
When I asked if we were allowed to pet them they said only if you’re buying one. No wonder they look horrible, they never have human interaction. Genuinely have nothing else to say, just needed to express my sympathy for these little adorable pups (who most likely came from a puppy mill)

The animals in this place look miserable and sickly. Half of the puppies I saw browsing through had watery eyes like they have pinkeye. I didn’t see food or water bowls in every single enclosure, and the two men working there are the most dour people I’ve seen working at a pet store. They stood there like bouncers instead of salesmen, only yelling at a woman who tried to put her finger in to pet a dog when there are signs telling you not to «for the animals’ health.» None of them looked 100% healthy, dude. There are no proofs or names, dates of birth, breeds, or any other kind of certification that these animals did not come from a mill or aren’t treated like merchandise.
If you want a pet to love, or even a toy for your pet you love, don’t come here. Please go to a shelter instead. If you want to put your money where your mouth is and get rid of awful places like this, file a complaint like I did with the USDA animal welfare division:
I wish I had all the money in the world to buy animals from places like these to save them, or to stick it in the pockets of politicans who care and can do something permanent about it.

I live nearby and decided to pop in while walking around the neighborhood. The environment is so sad. The glass crates they keep the puppies in are smaller than normal and absolutely filthy. They looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. None of the dogs/​kittens look healthy or happy. The two men working there seem miserable and weren’t acknowledging any of the customers walking in and out of the store. The only time I heard either of them speak was to aggressively yell at a little girl for touching the glass. I’m not sure why anyone would ever buy an animal here other than to save the poor thing from this horrible place. This business should be shut down.

I rescued a male Cornish Rex from this horrible place.
Yes I paid GREATLY to save a innocent creature living in a 2′ X 2.5′ dirty, sticky Lucite box where he had to eat, drink and do his necessities in the cramp space for the better part of a year, it turns out he was 10 months old when we adopted each other, I did not know his age until i received the Pet Dealer Certificate during the purchase. I was told he was a kitten.
I had to walk by the shop for about 4 months while working on a project for a client, I would go in from time to time, the times I visited the shop the cat was sitting in his own facies. I was outraged yet did not show the Oger of a «lady» who works there «The Manager» how upset I was. Boy she was mean. I had to do something for the poor kitty, so I took him home with me that last day I was there.
He had a terrible infection on the base of his tail due to the horrific conditions of his environment. When a cat behaves that way «sitting in his own escrement» it is a reflection on his psychological and emotional state. And it’s taken four visits to the veterinarian to date and it still has not cleared completely.
. He was a mess physically and emotionally. It seemed like no one pet or handeled him for the time he was there. It’s taken us a long time, patience and love to get him to a good place, he’s a good kitty and our family loves him and he loves us in return, i cant tell you how happy we make eachother. It makes me sad to think what he went threw.
This place should had closed a long time ago, simply walk in, and the smell of neglect smacks you across the face, unfortunately the cuteness of the animals muffle’s the carelessness.
THEY TREAT LIVING CREATURS INHUMAINLY, AND WITHOUT LOVE NOR CARE. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN SOMEONE GOES INTO A BUISNESS FOR THE WRONG REASONS.

this store needs to be shut down. it breaks my heart to walk by this store and see all the poor puppies, horrible workers, and worst of all, wholly ignorant customers in it. never trust a store that specializes in selling puppies. every cent you give to this place is a cent that supports heartless puppy mills. for those of you who frequent, buy from, and work in this store: how do you sleep at night?!
please consider adopting a rescue or shelter dog instead. nationwide, over a million healthy, happy, loving dogs are put down each year because the majority of our country can’t be bothered to educate themselves about this horrible industry. please do some background reading and consider saving a life (or two) instead.

I came in here was browsing at the doggies, they’re taken decent care of but what I hated about this place was the GROUCHY ANGRY sour men, like relax buddy it won’t kill u to crack a smile on ur face and to answer my question and refrain from looking that a dentist is about to pull ur teeth.
I was looking for a puppy and I DIDNt end up getting one to spite them because of their bad service.

Having bought 2 poodles 17 years ago at the original location and looking locally in NJ for a puppy we decided to go back to where we had gotten 2 great dogs years ago. I went in and asked for a poodle or poodle mix. The one they had just wasn’t what we were looking for. Jack suggested a Havanese. We knew nothing about the breed but loved the sweet puppy he put in our arms. We left for a coffee and quickly did our research and found the breed to be a good fit for us. He is amazing, healthy (just took him to the vet) and a happy puppy.

With such bad ratings I probably would have never visited the store in search for a puppy but that being said, I’m glad I went in not having read up on pets on lex.
I had gotten a call from my aunt (who bought her 2 y. o schnauzer from the store) that they had the prefect dog for me-​a three month old «teddy-​bear» available, at discounted price, if I picked him up before store closing. While that might have sounded suspicious to others, my aunt is very good at sweet talking and I also fell in love with the pictures she sent me of the dog. So of course I went that very night to check out the puppy and I had a very pleasant experience. They let me hold the dog the entire time they spoke to me and showed me around the store. They not only honored my aunts verbal agreement to discount the puppy to the specific price she told me, 2 weeks after I purchased him the owner called to check up on me and my little guy.
The staff might be a little rough around the edges but they kind and helpful with me, especially considering the fact that I was on my own and never bought a puppy before. They could have taken advantage of me but they didn’t they only gave me what I needed and threw in a few toys for me free of charge.
I’m minus-​ing a star because my baby came with kennel cough :(

If you need your heart broken in pieces, please go visit this place. I stopped by on my way from work hoping to get cheered up by some puppies and was devastated. They CLEARLY run a puppy mill business!!! The dogs seemed drugged and so sad. I asked him where the dogs came from, and he just avoids it. I straight up asked «Do you get these dogs from puppy mills?!» And he was so angry.
Broke my heart. I wish I could buy all those dogs and take care of them, but I would HATE to give money to these assholes. Please please they need to be shut down. It’s so cruel.

We bought our chocolate cocker spaniel, Jake, from Pets on Lex. He was completely an impulse buy because we could not leave such an amazingly cute and friendly puppy sitting in that tiny little box.
Although I will say he did have an eye infection when we bought him, he has had no health issues since. He is the most amazing puppy and we are so thankful for him.
I do not support pet stores but I could not leave Jake sitting in that tiny box any longer.
Also, I don’t believe that they get their pups from Puppy Mils. Pets of Lex provided us with his breeder information and we contacted them. They provided us with pictures of his mom and info about his dad. They reassured us that their cockers have not had any health problems.
So, in conclusion… we got lucky with our pet, and given the advice we received from the pet store — bad food, wrong amount, wrong frequency — I do not recommend buying from the store unless you go in and find the half off deal love of your life that we found with Jake. He’s amazing, healthy, and the most well behaved dog in all the land. so it can work.
Jake is a 5 star dog but Pets on Lex is a 1 star store. So we’re giving a 2 star rating.

Every time I come in here, the people working are ultra rude and it is CLEAR that they get their dogs from puppy mills. The puppies are clearly not cared for and if you ask specific questions about an animal, such as where was he/​she bred, the always give a BS answer.
PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE!

Disgusting. If you want to support puppy mills this is the place to go. They’ve been investigated by the ASPCA before and were found to have shady reports. Already reported them myself.

yeah they can be rude, and expensive but i bought my dog from here and he’s GREAT! I LOVEE him.

I bought my 3 month old chihuahua here one week ago. She’s perfect. Happy, sweet, loving, paper trained (!!!) and healthy. My best friend’s family had purchased all their yorkies there and called ahead. My chihuahua was brought up from downstairs. Jack, the old man helping us, had a soft spot for my chihuahua. He was very straightforward and promised I would adore her. He was right. I strongly felt that he was more interested in making a good match between puppy and owner rather than just making a sale. My chihuahua has a pedigree from a reputable breeder in Arkansas. This place is great. They obviously treat their dogs very well, with loving kindness, and care about where they will end up. He gave me great advice and helped me pick out things to buy. I don’t understand the negative reviews. I think maybe they come from people with a negative view of puppy stores to begin with, and their confirmation bias wins out over reason. If I ever get a second dog, I’m buying her from here.

This place is notorious for selling puppies with severe stages of kennel cough, but you woulnd’t know it since they administer lots of heavy duty medications for the duration of time that the puppies are in the store.

This hell hole should be closed, and the owners and workers prosecuted. Please, rescue people, take these poor, beautiful animals and close the place.
I stopped in after seeing a surgeon. I thought that the experience would lighten my heart. Instead I was met with misery, caged, desperate animals and one older gentleman, whose been there for like 100 years, with a nasty, mean spirited demeanor.
I can’t believe that there isn’t enough information to close them down. The animals that are in residence need to be rescued and this abuse stopped. Please write and do what you can to help. I would have purchased a cat just to get them out of their misery.

The service here was horrible. I really cannot say enough bad things about this place. They were so rude when I needed assistance with me new pet that I was forced to call the BBB on them.
Kal, the supposed «manager» refused to call the owner for me, so I was forced to sneak his number from a card on the desk and call him myself.
I hope anyone who is as disgusted as I am will call the owners personal phone incessantly at (917) 418‑2506 If you call enough times in a row he will answer. Don’t let him off easy. He’s full of BS and serves whatever you’ve got to throw at him!
Any place where the employees «jokingly» say «I’m gonna kill you» when pets wiggle during their brush before they’re adopted should be put out of business.

Purchased a kitten from this store. Cat himself is great. Way over market price — but you know that going in there. Overall fine experience, store threw in basic cat supplies. Even came with a nice healthy dose of FLEAS. Be very careful — inspect any pet you are considering purchasing from this store.
Would recommend researching a breed and dealing with an AKC approved breeder.
