Dr. Sherman is the best dentist I’ve ever met. I took out my wisdom tooth with him – it took less than 10 minutes. I had zero pain afterwards (which was amazing because when I had taken out wisdom tooth with a different dentist, I was in so much pain I had to take so many advils). He was friendly – asked about my college, job, and future plans. He is also very nice about insurance and payment. The receptionist is super too!

Dr. Sherman was GREAT! I would hands down recommend him to any and everyone. I was extremely nervous about getting my wisdom teeth removed and Dr. Sherman was nothing put patient, kind and understanding. He kept me calm throughout the whole procedure by explaining what he was doing step by step, offering words of encouragement, and asking me questions about my future goals. The procedure was swift and quick and was not as bad as I had anticipated. Dr. Sherman is the sweetest !

EXCELLENT oral surgeon. He removed my wisdom teeth totally pain free in under 5 minutes. He also took the time to answer all of my questions in a very patient manner. I absolutely HIGHLY recommend him.

One of my friend went to him to get her wisdom tooth removed. She was given the local anesthesia but he kept injecting it incorrectly several times and it did not numb the area properly. He kept injecting more till the time it’s completely numb. Took off the tooth and left my friend with a permanently numb and hyper sensitive chin and lower lip. This happens because of too much anesthesia in the wrong place.
Please do not go to him.

Dr Peter M. Sherman is the BEST oral surgeon on the planet. I am a 64 year old CPA and have lived in NYC my entire life. I have seen more than my share of imposters. This is the real deal. I had a wisdom tooth removed 6 months ago by Dr Sherman. I had read and heard all the wisdom tooth horror stories but for me it was liking getting a haircut. I decided to go with Dr Sherman because he removed my daughter’s wisdom teeth 20 years ago. It was over in less than 10 minutes. No pain, no discomfort. Very professional and very smart. Recently my dentist said I needed a second wisdom tooth removed so I ran to Dr Sherman yesterday. I was determined to pay more attention this time. I didnt even feel the injection for the anesthesia. It was over in 2 minutes. I never saw anything. The man is a magician. No pain, no bleeding, no discomfort. Staff is wonderful. If you dont love him there is something wrong with you.

So, I probably did the same that all of you have done. I found Dr. Sherman on Unilocal and saw all of the good reviews and immediately booked my appt. Unfortunately my visit was just like the few of those, who also have low ratings for the man.
The front desk staff was GREAT, as soon as I met the Dr. however, everything went down hill. I did’t even make it through the visit.
The first thing he said to me was that he never heard of my insurance before and that it looks like it does not cover dental. I explained to him that it falls under Cigna and I have been using dental for quite some time, and that I called and made sure he fell in my network. His response was «well it must not be very good then».
Next, he proceeded to tell me, that whoever was doing my dental work prior was horrible, and that all my teeth might fall out when I get older.
He also then stated that my mother does not care about me because if she did, she would have made sure that I was seeing a dentist more regularly. That was the last straw, I immediately got up and walked out.
He was completely unprofessional and offensive, and on top of that, made me feel completely humiliated.
The worst visit that i have ever been to, and I absolutely do not recommend. I do not know how this man has any clients at all.

I visited him over 2 years back but hadn’t reviewed so here it is now. 1. gave me next day appointment when I called him around 5pm that I was in pain 2. walked me thru the steps and 5 mins for my anesthetia to work and 30 seconds to get the wisdom tooth removed. 3. detailed steps of what to do next given and i followed them 4. didnt even need the prescription strength ibuprofen, it was that painless

Dr. Sherman and his staff are excellent! I got one of my top wisdom teeth removed with no pain or discomfort; the whole process took fewer than 5 minutes.
There are earlier reviews of incompetent staff, and I think Dr. Sherman has addressed that problem because Barbara (the office manager) was tremendously helpful, efficient, and bright. Likewise, Dr Sherman’s dental assistant was also great.
In terms of the reviews that list Dr. Sherman as «abrasive», I’m really not sure what they mean; I found him to jovial and intelligent (and I was really impressed by his work).
They have also been quite helpful dealing with my complicated insurance plan and have not asked me to pay up front or any other shadiness.

I went there to get my wisdom teeth removed. He was knowledgeable and gave me good advice on if I should removed both or just one. (I had the other two removed a couple years ago and it was a horrible experience.) Dr Sherman got the job done in 5 minutes and as he promised, it did not hurt! I wanted to hug him when it was over! I’d highly recommend anyone who needs his wisdom teeth removed to go to see him.
Barbara the front desk was nice too, not like other review suggested. Maybe they had different staff before. The office was clean and comfy. Would go back again for my last wisdom tooth when it grows out.

Dr. Sherman is very nice. I spend very little time waiting. Before I go, I have sent him email mentioned that I’ve already had an X-​ray. He told me he will take a free 3D Xray if it is needed. I’m very glad for that. The whole process to take out my wisdom teeth is so quick and painless.
The final charge price is also decent.

This is my most meaningful contribution to the Unilocal community. Unilocalers, if you need to get your wisdom teeth out, absolutely come to Dr. Sherman.
I had missed the golden age for getting them out — between the ages of 17 and 20. Why? Well in addition to still being a high schooler who has the luxury of a mother bringing you ice cream while you bask on the couch, it’s also the period when there are minimal complications. Once you hit age 25 there is a 10% risk of damage to a facial nerve (I will explain why I know this nerd-​ism later).
Unilocalers, a lady never tells her age, but I am definitely closer to 25 than 17. All my friends were telling me nightmare stories — spewing blood from their mouth, cheeks swollen to chipmunk proportions, dry sockets, Vicodin rampages, the works. This is a procedure I would have put off until eternity, but the pain /​evident infection in my right bottom tooth spoke volumes: the curtain had risen, and the time was now.
I went in for a consultation, where Dr. Sherman gave me a NYT article entitled «Wisdom Teeth: The Hazards.» Oh goody, I thought. The article was rife with alarming statistics (such as the one mentioned above) about all the complications that can occur in the removal process. He then proceeded to show me an x-​ray of my teeth and point out the nerve running beneath my wisdom teeth.
«If I hit this nerve,» he cautioned, «your face will be paralyzed.»
Most excellent.
Needless to say when I came back in for the procedure the next day, I was shaking in my boots. Dr. Sherman only used local anesthetic on me, so I was actually awake for the whole procedure (which I was actually a bit disappointed by, because I was really looking forward to all the hilarious shit I was going to say while still loopy). He only did the right side during my first appointment, and told me I’d have to come back in a week later to do the left side.
The whole thing took 20 minutes. Seriously. I didn’t feel a thing, but kept my eyes tightly closed because I knew if I saw forceps emerging from my mouth with a bloody tooth I would pass the f out.
They give you gauze and codeine and instructions on care. When I got home I expected the full gamut of suffering but none came. Literally, I didn’t even pop a Tylenol.
All in all, with my dental insurance (MetLife Dental) covering the majority of the procedure, I paid somewhere around $ 400 for the removal of both sides. Two hours after my procedure I was ready to see people, and I was eating solid foods by the next day (was unable to use my wisdom teeth extraction as a mandatory diet, after all). All my wisdom-​toothless friends (read: naysayers) were epically jealous.
So what’s the takeaway? Do I possess good dental karma? Am I just an amazing patient? Perhaps. Really I think Dr. Sherman is just an talented oral surgeon with years and years of experience, know-​how, and excellent bedside manner. He told me I was the best patient ever, and I am inclined to believe him.

I saw Dr Sherman for wisdom teeth removal and was so impressed with everything. He took my wisdom teeth out in two appointments, doing two teeth at a time. Both times, I was out of the chair in less than 15 minutes. I never waited to see him for more than a few minutes.
After hearing horror stories from everybody I know about swollen cheeks and liquid for a full week, I was dreading the procedure but I was barely swollen and actually able to eat solid food the next day! Dr Sherman himself was so friendly and helped make me comfortable when I was nervous. The girls who work at the front were very helpful as well.

Dr. Sherman pulled two teeth for me. He had them out in 5 minutes with no pain and no pain afterwards. He is obviously very experienced and very knowledgeable. He also remembers all his patients and is easily available on the phone if you have any questions or concerns. Great surgeon.

Dr Sherman is the BEST! he’s a bit of a character (he reminds me of my dad) but he is a brilliant doctor and a great guy. i went to him for a second opinion and he told me that i was not nearly as ill as another doc told me. i will recommend Dr Sherman to everyone i know!

I ABSOLUTELY ADORE Dr. Sherman — his front desk staff, not so much. If you’re looking for a great, personable oral surgeon, HANDS DOWN, Dr. Sherman is your man. I’m terrified of needles and he makes the experience so painless, it’s amazing. When he walks into the room with that needle, he runs his fingers down your forehead to the tip of your nose; as if you were a little kid! As minor as it may sound, this meant the world to me as I sat shivering in the chair.
The staff — HOODRAT CENTRAL. You would think he pays them in vouchers. One woman hung up on me when I called the office to verify my appointment time, which they had rescheduled the day before.

I have no dental insurance but the prices were not too steep to get my wisdom teeth out. Relatively painless and I only suffered some discomfort a week later.
Ask to keep your tooth so that the office doesn’t send it out for a biopsy. I didn’t realize and was not informed that they would send out my tooth (which I would have happily kept) and now I’m getting hounded by a pathology lab to get the biopsy paid for. If you talk to Dr Sherman he will help you handle this problem if it arises but I say avoid it all together and keep the tooth!

I went to Dr. Sherman for wisdom teeth removal and it was the most pain-​free dental process I’ve ever experienced! From my first consultation to my post-​extraction follow up, I never waited more than 5 minutes to see the doctor, and I was early for all the appointments.
I had been putting off getting my wisdom teeth removed for over 5 years just because of the horror stories my friends had told me. Finally, I couldn’t wait any longer so I scheduled D-​Day with Dr. Sherman. I went in, was given some novacaine, and the doc pulled out 2 wisdom teeth in less than 5 minutes. When he said he was done I didn’t believe him. It was 100% painless! I especially liked the fact that he didn’t put me under. It saved time and the trouble of finding someone to take care of me afterwards.
Following extraction, I didn’t have any swelling or pain. He sent me home with some codeine for pain, but I never had to use it. I went in a week later to have the stitches removed and I haven’t had any problems since.
With all the positives said, here are a few negatives I encountered. During my first visit, the front desk woman could have been nicer. She wasn’t rude, but she wasn’t nice either. However, she wasn’t around during my two visits afterward. The other front desk girl/​assistant I had was very sweet. I believe her name was Barbara.
Also during my first visit, the woman who handles the insurance claims went on a screaming rant for everyone to hear. She used some colorful language and yelled at the front desk girl about not putting calls through to her. I’ve heard worse walking down the street, but it was very unprofessional.
Overall, I had a good experience and would definitely recommend Dr. Sherman for an quick, easy, and painless wisdom teeth removal.

I had a wisdom tooth problem and he said «five minutes» and five minutes later I was walking out with a tooth in a baggie, antibiotics and a painkiller. He knows what he’s doing and is so easy going about it. Having a good oral surgeon really does make all the difference before, during and after getting your wisdom teeth out.
He takes Delta Dental and BCBS. I saw a list of other insurances he accepts and it looks like a very comprehensive list.

Seriously, just wow. For years, I knew I had these big teeth growing in the back of my mouth, and that they would never come all the way out, and that eventually I’d have to get them out, but I was scared. Horror stories abound, I had built up in my mind the idea that when the time comes, my wisdom teeth will have to get broken into pieces, incisions all over my gums, and hours in some kind of oral surgery contraption while they’re slowly drilled out of my head. Forget the recovery, I’ve seen plenty of pictures of kids with chipmunk cheeks and blood all over their faces, weeks of missed school, etc. You name it, I googled it, and let’s face it, I was scared to death of getting my wisdom teeth out.
So finally, the inevitable happened, and an infection started in my lower right wisdom tooth. My boyfriend sent me to Dr. Sherman.
After assessing the situation, Dr. Sherman leisurely says, «yeah, so if you want we can just take out the right two today…» WHAT?! TODAY?! I panicked. This was really happening. Palms started sweating, feet wobbling around in the chair, and my mind started racing. Dr. Sherman’s assistant cheers me on, reasoning with me that if I come back next week, it’d just be another week of worrying, plus another trip all the way back. Screw it, let’s do this.
Before I know it, I’m bibbed, novocained, and Dr. Sherman says, «ok, i’m just going to test the novocaine…» Two seconds later, out comes my top wisdom tooth. WTF? He tricked me! :) The bottom one, which required an incision was done within the next five minutes, literally so fast that I didn’t have enough time to freak out.
So, to summarize, less than ten minutes after, «screw it, let’s do this,» I was standing up and strolling along to the waiting room to get my coat. Why the hell did I put this off for soo long? I got to share my war story with the nervous folks in the waiting room also there for their wisdom teeth, hopefully easing some suspense for them.
Dr. Sherman is the best. Both he and his staff put me at ease and made the situation the best it could possibly be. My recovery was a piece of cake, I didn’t even have to take the pain meds they gave me, and was in school the next day.
If you need your wisdom teeth out, stop avoiding and just go to Dr. Sherman!

I agree with everything the first reviewer wrote! I had such a great experience getting one of my wisdom teeth pulled that I feel compelled to recommend Peter Sherman to THE WORLD.
Honestly, I *wish* I had known about him when I had a horrific root canal a while ago; I probably wouldn’t have had a panic attack in the chair.
It truly couldn’t have gone any better, and I was terrified going into this. Everyone who works there is beyond friendly and caring. He was quick to find things we had in common that we could talk about, and he made an effort to put me at ease. He must get so sick of repeating the same things again and again, but you never would know, because he treats you like an old friend. The entire staff were all very professional and efficient. After some novocain, it took him about two minutes to painlessly yank my tooth out — I didn’t even know that it had happened!
I’ve never had such a positive experience with any doctor, and I will definitely see him again if I need future dental work.
