Perlmutter & McGuinness, P.C. was founded by Adam D. Perlmutter, a former Assistant District Attorney in Queens County, New York. Adam has a broad-base of criminal defense experience that very few New York lawyers can match. From successfully defending death penalty cases to uncovering police corruption, Perlmutter & McGuinness, P.C. has developed a reputation as aggressive trial attorneys whose work is firmly grounded on thorough preparation, superior knowledge of the law, facts, and integrity.
History
Established in 2002.
Adam Perlmutter started his private law firm in 2002 after a decade of training in litigation and criminal justice. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1992 with honors and spent four years working on white collar criminal matters including federal bank fraud and New York State medicaid fraud litigations. Between 1996 and 2000, Adam served as an Assistant District Attorney in Queens, New York, where he over saw the investigation and trial of violent crimes.
Adam opened his own New York City criminal defense practice in 2002. Since that time, he has experienced a string of successes in both federal and state court trial including:
— Obtaining 6 murder acquittals for Thomas Gioeli including the charge of murdering a New York City police officer
— Securing an acquittal for Stephen Lopresti on a 4 DWI arrest
— Winning numerous «not guilty» verdicts for DWI cases throughout New York City
— Avoiding the death penalty for Folk Nation gang leader James McTier

Adam Perlmutter’s practice includes federal criminal defense of those accused of crimes involving narcotics, organized crime, white-collar crimes and violent felonies. He served as lead counsel in the successful death-penalty defense in United States v. James McTier. Mr. Perlmutter also secured acquittals on six murders for Thomas Gioeli, alleged acting boss of the Colombo crime family. In addition to his criminal defense work, Mr. Perlmutter obtained a $ 1,000,000 verdict in the Southern District of New York against a City Correction Officer found deliberately indifferent to an inmate-on-inmate attack on Rikers Island. Mr. Perlmutter is the recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award in trial advocacy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School. He has lectured on DWI law for the New York State Bar Association. He also serves on the forensics and discovery subcommittees of the New York Justice Task Force.
