I am a member at the Sports Center and recently received a gift card for Paul Labrecque Salon and Spa. I got a 60 min. massage from Christopher. This was my first massage and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. Not only was the massage relaxing, but Christopher also took the time to speak with me about my expectations prior to and experience after the massage. I also tend to have pain and tension in my back; Christopher let me know where the tension was centered and gave me advice on how to best stretch and alleviate the pain. I’m excited to go back and would highly recommend him!

Worse Experience EVER!!! I would not recommend.
Only tried this salon because of the Gym membership.
Had a mani-​pedi which took over an hour. They carried a variety of cheap nail polish which took forever to dry and in the ended up with nail polish all over my cuticles which she didn’t push back. Then went on with the waxing, still had unwanted hair where I paid to have them removed (could’ve done a better job shaving). Worse part of all… This hair dresser named Giovanni claimed that he could style natural hair, not only did he not know how to style my hair, he didn’t even know how to properly wash my hair. He told this Russian lady who never even touch a black person’s hair before to wash my hair which left my hair in a tangled mess. Then he attempted to cut my hair in it’s dry state. He could’ve even do a two strand twist, NOTHING, not even an updo. In the end, I think he gave up but kept trying to give me ideas on how to style my hair (umm… I can go on Youtube for that). So I went in with a hat on and left with a hat on, (not because of the weather) and was charged an obscene amount of money for absolutely NOTHING… I ended up washing out the products he put in my hair when I got home because they left this nasty white residue in my hair and I had to trim my hair to remedy some of the damage.
Well I guess you don’t always get what you pay for!!!

Update from my previous review. I returned to the salon for a hair cut with Lumi yesterday. The salon has contacted me about the incorrect charges I incurred last time and assured me I could use my $ 100 credit this time. Booking was easy (over the phone, gave me an appointment the same day). The female receptionist took care of everything at the end with no issues applying the credit.
Haircut itself was great. It was exactly what I wanted and she styled it at the end. My hair was super shiny and bouncy when I walked out. Lumi herself is very bubbly and friendly and offered multiple tips on hair care, color, etc.
Everyone else at the salon was super friendly and helpful and made sure to make me feel comfortable. A haircut here runs about $ 90 — reasonable considering the type of salon it’s in.

Another amazing visit to Paul Labrecque. This time, it was for color and with a client. The staff here is so wonderful. Very sweet, very cool, very fun. They realized i was bringing a client for a treatment and rolled out the red carpet even further than normal. We had a great time and both walked away with amazing color. Can’t recommend Paul Labrecque more… whether it’s for hair, facials or massages… I’ve had all of the above and truly enjoy my visits. Will definitely be back.

I had thought that I would spare this spa my one star review since I gave the receptionist my feedback as I was leaving. But somehow I expected some sort of follow up from the spa or an apology for such a terrible experience, especially since I still paid in full and left gratuity. Wishful thinking. This was one of the worst massages I have gotten in NYC. I used to come to Chelsea piers spa all the time but never coming back. The massage therapist simply assumed the type of massage I wanted, didn’t ask me about injuries etc. That’s just basic massage 101. It felt like he just wanted to get the massage over with — I gave him feedback several times but then after a while I couldn’t wait to get the massage over with. He slammed cupboards as he was taking out towels. At the end of the massage, the room was a mess, with towels all over the place. I couldn’t find my slippers until I searched under the massage table. And to top it off, he wasn’t even considerate enough to make sure my butt was covered at all times during the massage! Disappointing and awful. And horrible customer service.

This was not one of my best spa experiences. In fact I am hard pressed to think of a worse spa experience.
From a logistical standpoint, the spa is situated in a weird spot. It is on the second floor of the Chelsea Piers Sports Center. You walk past the salon, through a dining area, into their gym’s locker room. Their gym is ENORMOUS by the way.
The locker room is huge and very few of the employees speak English. I followed the signs to the spa, hoping they had a separate changing area but much to my chagrin, they did not. The spa receptionist gave me a robe and slippers and directed me back to the locker room to change. As I went back into the locker room, I saw the lockers needed a lock. I went back into the spa and the receptionist gave me a temporary lock.
The changing area was not private and I was surrounded by tweens. As a grown woman, I would prefer not to change in front of the Disney Channel set so I decided to hike (yes hike) to the bathroom area to change in private.
The restrooms were clean but I found it especially curious how most of the staff was either blowing out their hair or posing in front of the mirror.
The robe they gave me was very sheer — VERY SHEER. Any pigmentation of the skin showed through. The slippers were bizarre. They made it sound like you were shuffling everywhere. I walked into the spa and awaited my massage.
This was not the worst massage I ever received but definitely one of the most painful. I told the therapist before the session that I like a medium to light touch on my shoulders because they were very tight and to focus on my legs. She kneaded my shoulders like she was making a challah bread. I told her several times that she was hurting me. She acknowledged me with an «okay» and continued her assault on my back and shoulders. She barely worked on my legs (not on my feet at all) and focused primarily on my back — exactly the opposite of what I asked for. At the end she acknowledged that she was going too hard on my back and that it took her a while to «get it.»
I can tell you this, I «got it» and won’t be coming back.

This review is for Nikki…
Met Nikki when she worked at Le Salon East — hated the salon itself but she was fantastic and I instantly was a fan. She finally moved over to a better place — Paul Labrecque!
The salon is in a townhouse and a really lovely location. When you get your hair done you are actually looking into the backyards of the fancy shmancy townhouses — very serene.
I get a cut and ombré highlights with Nikki and she knocks it out of the park every time. She is the only stylist I will color my hair with… The ombré always comes out the exact shade of blond that I want, and is subtle and as natural looking as an ombré can be.
The assistants who wash your hair are all so sweet and always give a nice head massage during the shampoo.
All in all a great place (if you can afford it, it is only a bit pricey, but worth it). Thanks Nikki!

As a Chelsea Piers Sports Center member since September 2013, I have been using this salon for hair and mani-​pedi services. I recommend Ella for mani-​pedi, and Lisette, Liri, and Catherine for hair and color. I also enjoy the army of receptionists that rotate daily for both the salon and spa reception desks. The salon has great hazelnut coffee for guests as well.
Beside the services offered, I pick up fragrant Nest and Lafco candles, soaps, and diffusers, and holiday greeting cards offered on the shelves.

3.5 stars. Located within The Sports Center at Chelsea Piers, it’s very convenient to get a haircut, blowout, facial, mani/​pedi, or massage here after a workout. My hairstylist employed the dry cutting technique. She was nice and very knowledgeable about haircare, so I picked up an amazing amount of tips during my session. I loved chatting with her!
The salon is located by the front desk, and the spa can be accessed through the locker rooms. Whereas the spa has a traditional, tranquil ambiance (I haven’t tried their services yet), the salon is very small so it carries more of an «express» station feel to it. But make no mistake about it, it is a full service salon/​spa and you will get full care and pampering.
Although I’m still going to check out other hair salons in the city, this a convenient option. Plus, gym members get 10% off all services.

Got an apprentice cut from Lumi. Not gonna lie always nervous when i get these — usually you get what you pay for. BUT. Lumi killed it. best haircut of my life, i met my wife with this haircut… thats a lie. but actually though, she kills a men’s cut.

I have gone twice now, due to proximity to my office. The massage area is fine. The two therapists I have had were very good. I also found it easy to make appointments. The cons. The staff is a bit unprofessional. Both times they were loudly laughing in the reception area with each other which annoyed me during my massage. The first time the massage was customized to my issues, and amazing, until the bill. They up-​charged me $ 30 for extra stuff she did, but I had no idea I was being sold on extra services. That was pretty disappointing. The second time I was asked to hurry out, like 30 seconds after I left the therapy room because they wanted to close. I couldn’t go get my wallet or return the robe lock — but ended up doing so, not that the employee cared. I have never had service like those at a spa. so I guess dont expect to be pampered by anyone but the therapist, and double check the cost of what you are getting even when you are on the table.

A great addition to the best gym in NYC. Have had 3 haircuts by the amazing Liri. Very talented for one so young! Consistently great cuts. The spa is also lovely. I recommend Sasha for a fabulous facial. All this and conveniently located at the Sports Center at Chelsea Piers where I spend much of my time. A perfect combination !

My weekends at Paul Labrecque, Chelsea Piers have become a high point thanks to Liri. It’s rare to find someone that can manage my hair and make it picture perfect, so smooth and the shine lasts all week. (Unlike many blowouts that are dry after a day or two). Liri is so talented and knows how to treat my long hair so it maintains it’s style and healthy body and she always gives me hair care tips that I never knew about!

I went to the spa for the first time to get a manicure. The wait was not long at all and the person that did my nails (Valerie) was very professional and we chatted for the whole time. The salon is clean and organized, which is expected for a high end establishment. In the end, I was very satisfied with the service and hope to return again when I am in the area.

I had my hair and makeup done by the amazing Catherine for my December 29, 2013 wedding at Chelsea Piers. I can honestly say I have never felt more beautiful. She took my vision and made it even more incredible. People were raving about my hair and makeup all night – exactly what a bride wants to hear! The salon was completely accommodating and made my bridesmaids and I feel very special. I would recommend this salon (and especially Catherine) to anyone.

I worked with the team at this salon, and Brian in particular, to schedule massages for a company event for 11 guests. Brian was incredibly accommodating and wonderful to work with. He not only reached out to his team to get enough massage therapists on board, he even had the foresight to suggest asking if there were sensitivities among our group for male versus female massage therapists. Very thoughtful!
The work event unfortunately fell through at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances on my end, but Brian was extremely gracious about the situation. I would absolutely recommend using this salon just based on their wonderful decorum. I can’t wait for the opportunity to actually use one of their services myself.
