Best Dentist in New York City!!! I’ve been going to Dr. Pamela Wilson for over twenty years and I have to say, she simply is the best. She does excellent dental work and she’s extremely compassionate and friendly. Her staff is great too! I highly recommend Dr. Wilson.

What a gentile and humane doctor, she is sweet and gets right to the point of dentistry. No games, no pushed cosmetics. She needs to be recognized for the treatment she provides. She treats gum disease and decay, and most importantly she treats bite reconstruction which majority of expensive prosto doctor would treat. Plus the view from the chair is pretty neat its a treat

As a few others have written I would avoid Dr. Wilson. I’ve only gotten cleanings and lots of and lots of unsolicited «advice» on other things related to dentistry but not at all in her field. But the cleanings take forever and she usually has an assistant holding several devices in your mouth in addition to her two hands. I’ve been getting my teeth cleaned twice a year for 4 decades and I never saw anything like it. But that’s not the worst part. Be very careful how she charges… or doesn’t and then does. Nothing about the billing and bookkeeping is straight forward in this office and the façade of niceness and caring is trumped by greed. Be crystal clear up front what you’re getting and how much it’ll cost and be sure you pay that and only that, not more or less. Or, better yet, avoid her all together.

Dr. Wilson is a fantastic dentist: she really, really takes her job seriously and performs a truly exceptional level of care. My family has a history of gum disease and tooth decay problems, so I take dental care seriously and really appreciate the 2 part cleanings Dr. Wilson performs (gum cleaning + tooth cleaning). My teeth and gums have never looked or felt better. Plus, Dr. Wilson is extremely kind, patient, and intelligent. I think if I had had a dentist like her when I was younger I might have wanted to become a dentist.
The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is that her cleanings are quite expensive. I have pretty lame dental insurance (but dental insurance is rarely great) so that is partly to blame. Overall, it’s worth it to me to spend the money, as it gives me great reassurance about the health of my teeth and gums. But if you are looking for cheap care, this is not the place for you.

Here’s some of what I really appreciate about Dr. Wilson:
–She’s never rushed or trying to rush through my time with her.
–She’s never tries to sell me things I don’t need.
–Her care and recommendations spring from her desire to provide the best long-​term care independent of cost or procedure.
My previous experiences with NYC dentists were not positive. Both had a used car salesman like approach, always trying to sell me on whitening (despite my having teeth that are white, just not blindingly white). Both of these men were in an overcaffienated rush, and I just never felt (or really expected) the kind of trust and care I’ve come to expect from Dr. Wilson.
She carries herself with an informed, professional and reassuring manner, and when you are sitting in her chair, you feel as though all of the bureaucracy falls away and that she is fully focused on you and your mouth. I’ve only ever been to three NYC dentists, but for me, she has been the exception, not the rule.
I suppose it’s easy in this day and age to overfocus on maximizing the number of patients billed, and to bill them for whatever possible. But I think her patients would agree that what inspires Dr. Wilson is to have patients whose mouths are as healthy as they can possibly be on a long-​term basis.

I no longer live in NY but while I did Dr. Wilson was the BEST find ever. I was recommended to her by practically everyone in my office (everyone on my floor seemed to be her patient) so I took their advice and went. First of all, her front desk staff is amazing. I had some concerns about what X-​Rays they would take because I knew only some were covered by my insurance. I also wanted to make sure they would only do what was in my insurance plan because I did not have the extra funds to be paying for things I didn’t need. Their billing person took me into her office to explain what they would do, the charges and ensured me that my insurance covered everything – before I even saw anyone! I thought that was really cool of them because most offices don’t take the time. She was really gentle and although I despise getting my teeth cleaned, it wasn’t painful. I also enjoyed the fact that she had scenery on her ceiling – it was nice to have something to focus my attention on other than the nose hairs of the hygenist.
Since I moved to DC and it’s about that time again (ok, it was like 5 months ago and I just have been scared!) I called to ask them to mail me my X-​Rays. Not only did they agree to but Dr. Wilson also called me personally to offer some advice on good dentists in the area! I thought that was so amazing that a doctor would take the time out of her day to call back a patient, especially one that’s leaving. Anyhow, I would recommened her to anyone – especially anyone that hates the dentist. They make you feel comfortable and like all of your questions are worth their time!

NO STARS. but they made me check 1! This dentist is awful… please, please STAY AWAY and get a reference from someone you know in the city that has been seeing a dentist and can recommend a good one! I was talked into having extensive gum cleaning that I did NOT need (confirmed by my current dentist)…$ 500 (out of pocket) later! STAY AWAY if you know what is good for your wallet!

Dr. Wilson is the BEST dentist I have ever encountered… and I’m no spring chicken, so (a) I’ve seen a lot of dentists in my life and (b) I’ve had at least my fair share of middle-​aged dental issues. I’ve been seeing Dr. W for about six years now, and as Irene F. noted, she is unfailingly patient, kind and careful… and she’s a total perfectionist about her work, which strikes me as a great quality in a dentist.
Other great qualities…
(1) She is honest, compassionate and non-​judgmental. I don’t know about you, but I HATE having dentists or hygienists assume, if I have some problem with my teeth, that my oral care routine is somehow sub-​standard. Dr. Wilson NEVER judges or lectures, and this makes a huge difference in the whole relationship.
(2) She is always willing and able to work with patients around financial, logistical and even emotional issues. Her first priority is ensuring that her patients are happy and healthy, so if money, time, fear, whatever are obstacles in that pursuit, she finds ways to work around those obstacles.
(3) She is honest and committed to educating her patients. She thinks through problems, discusses them at length with patients, and thereby establishes a real feeling of «partnership» in achieving dental health (and yes, I fully realize how corny that sounds, but it’s true).
(4) She’s a genius with anesthesia. I’ve been numbed up over twenty times by Dr. W, and it DOES NOT HURT when she does it! Sounds impossible, I know, but she’s just really committed to making dental care as comfortable as possible, so she goes out of her way to do topical anesthetic first, inject slowly, etc., so it’s really (honestly!) painless.
(5) Like I said, she’s a perfectionist. The one downside to this is that it’s not uncommon for a 45-​minute appointment to stretch to 90 minutes — she likes to get it right, darnit! — but for me this is not a big deal. I like knowing that my dentist will settle for nothing less than the best when it comes to my mouth, its health, its appearance and my comfort.
(6) This is also going to sound corny, but she has a very holistic approach («whole-​body dentistry,» her sign says — ugh!). What I like about this is that it minimizes the drama. For example, one time I was in there for a regular check-​up and I sort of winced in fear as she approached an area where my gums had been red and a little swollen for the past few days: I thought she was going to scold me for improper brushing or something. Instead, she asked me in her quiet way about that spot, what I had noticed about it etc., and then wondered aloud if it could be hormonal. OH!!! I hadn’t thought of that, but it did indeed go away within a few days.
So that’s the deal with Dr. Wilson — she’s just great,. Everyone to whom I’ve recommended her has absolutely loved her, and that’s unusual for a dentist.

Wow. I will not fear going to the dentist again. After an unfortunate past of dentistry, I have always hated dentists. The drilling, the discomfort, the pain. Well, I fear no more. Dr. Wilson came highly recommended by a friend of a friend, and I was still skeptical. An awesome dentist? Isn’t that an oxymoron? Apparently not.
Dr. Wilson is patient, kind, and careful. I came in as an emergency when my tooth crumbled one lovely Sunday afternoon. On Monday, even though she does not usually see patients, she came in to see me (a new patient, mind you) and spent about an hour and a half with me discussing my teeth. Not only did she look at the crumbled tooth, she had me do a whole series of x rays since it had been a while, and gave me some suggestions on treatments. This wasn’t just «here are your cavities, let’s get drilling.» Instead, she recommended toothbrush options, and prescribed me some special toothpaste and mouth wash to repair some damage and possibly prevent the need to get more fillings. She gave me a temporary filling and had me come back 2 days later to fix the 2 teeth that were affected by the crumbling. Her office also called me two days after, to check and see how I was doing. A really nice touch.
I’m going back for a cleaning this week, and I’m actually quite happy about it!
