NY Lovely Nails Spa

The woman that was doing my nails didn’t speak any English, did not communicate with me the additional charges, and when I spoke with the manager about my dissatisfaction about my experience, she was rude and dismissive. Unfortunately an incredibly bad experience and will definitely not be coming back.

Very bad service from start to finish. Perhaps it depends on who you get, but my lady was basically a zombie, who grunted, pushed, and pulled my hands and feet during my mani/​pedi instead of talking to me. The only time she did talk was when it was time to pay and asked for a tip! SMH!!! Also, quality of mani/​pedi was poor; no TLC and crooked nails! Sigh.
Save your time and money and DO NOT GO HERE unless you want an unpleasant/​rude experience and a half-​ass job!

This if my first Unilocal review ever. And having worked in the service industry for 8 years I’m embarrassed it’s a negative one because I am very easy to please and do not complain.
I’ve been to lovely nails 4 times. The first time I came in around 1 on Monday (¹²⁄₇) and had excellent service for a gel manicure. My nail technician was very kind and offered me a punch card. After 10 visits you get a free manicure. She signed it and I believe her name is Sherry. Thumbs up.
My gel lasted 10 days with a tiny chip on my right hand. I’ve never had a gel last that long before so I was really excited. I noticed she used a hot towel and lotion but didn’t soak my nails. My second visit (¹²⁄₁₆) was again during the day, quiet and relaxing with a younger woman (signed Linda on my card) she was great too, didn’t soak my nails. I got a gel manicure and she gave me an incredible 10 minute massage. Thumbs up again! I couldn’t believe my luck.
My third visit is unfortunately what killed it. (12÷28− a full 12 days with two small chips! I did a little filing myself to preserve since the holidays had me traveling) this time they were busier than I’ve ever seen them. I was greeted by a receptionist which was a first and she was not particularly friendly. I asked for a gel manicure and a pedicure. She was apparently also a technician and either didn’t know what she was doing or didn’t care. (Signed Jessica on my card) She put the foil on my nails to soak the gel and by the 10^th nail immediately started to remove the first and scrape at my nails. I was a little surprised by this but chalked it up to them being busy. After scraping at my nails a bit I told her I thought they needed longer to soak. So she put the foil back on one thumb for a minute tops and came back to scrape away again. Typically when they scrape off the old gel comes off very easily from the foil soak and they scrape all in one direction. She did the opposite. It was sloppy and unprofessional. I had also asked her if I could get my toes done first and then my nails. I could tell they were busy and didn’t mind relaxing in one of their massage chairs while my nails and feet soaked. She either didn’t understand or again didn’t care. I decided not to ask again because she was being very short and I figured she was stressed. Then she put out a bowl to soak my nails. I asked her if it was ok to soak because based off of my first two visits they had given me dry manicures. She snapped at me. She said «it’s fine! here we soak!» and went back to filing off the chips of gel she couldn’t scrape off. I was pretty shocked by this treatment because it was the polar opposite of my first two visits. When I kept my hand out of the bowl for a minute processing this she snapped again and said «if you don’t want to soak it’s fine!» I then put my hand in the bowl and told her I would like just a regular manicure. I did not want color because after watching her hack at my nail beds I figured it would be best to let them rest for a day and go to a different salon to get them buffed. She had filed the top of my nails with a regular emery board to get the gel off all the way and they looked ragged. She informed me it was $ 10 to remove gel and I was charged another 12 for the «manicure». I was so upset. But paid in cash and tipped 20% as usual. I also opted out of the pedicure because I didn’t trust her to treat me with respect or do a good job.
I returned today (¹²⁄₂₉) and before I reached the door saw Jessica sitting at reception. I turned around and almost left because I was afraid I would get her again but decided it was my right as a customer to ask for someone else. My first two visits had been so good, after all. Linda was sitting in the back and came out to take care of me again so I didn’t even have to ask. Which really makes me question if Jessica is a technician or a receptionist who was just trying to squeeze in another client. I knew Jessica remembered me and was talking about me because they all looked over to me. I got a pedicure first and turned down a spa but when Linda pointed out my dry heels I went for the $ 10 upgrade. She did a great job but I absolutely will not return because Jessica made me feel so uncomfortable. It’s not worth it to me to go to a place that makes me feel unwelcome. If she’s a technician she should be reviewed. If she’s reception she should be spoken to about being the face of their business. Also I’d like to note that on either side of me women were getting gel nail manicures and I saw no nail soaking. It should not be an inconvenience to explain to a customer that wet or dry manicures are based on preference.
It’s very unfortunate that they hooked me as a loyal customer and then so quickly threw me back into the water. There are plenty of nail salons in NY and the Chelsea area in general– I’d rather go some place consistent in service and respect. If you go request Sherry or Linda.

I have no idea why this place has such a low rating. I’ve been here at least 10 times — primarily manicures and a few pedicures. There might not be a lot of thrills — and the experience isn’t fancy — but the staff is generally friendly, the quality of the manicure and pedicure (judged by the results) have been good, and it’s very inexpensive!!!

Excellent service, a great color selection. Spacious and lots of green plans, makes you feel relaxed and rejuvenated. Back massage is super!
Highly recommend!
My manicurist was A++++++.

The staff will lie to you about the wait time in order to get you to stay instead of going to a nearby competitor. They will continuously say «5 minutes» for nearly 30 minutes. By the time they get to you, you could’ve already gotten a manicure somewhere else. I don’t recommend going unless they can fit you in right away. And don’t be fooled just because they seat you in a chair. It doesn’t mean someone is available to help you.

Came in for a manicure on a Sunday afternoon and had ~10 min wait. Nice place, very clean, great color options. It’s quiet too. Manicure itself was really good and only took about 15 mins. I live around the corner so will definitely come back!

Love this spot. Lots of places to choose from in Chelsea but this is by far the best. The place is super clean and modern. They have the latest Essie, OPI, and gel colors. Everyone is super sweet as well. Weekends are typically packed, but they have a nice waiting area & you can book appointments in advance. I personally always do gel and my mani lasts at minimum 15 days. Great place & definitely recommend!

This is my favorite nail salon in the city. It’s super clean and really well priced. Some of the technicians are better than others but overall it’s always well done.

They do a good mani/​pedi, and I usually have someone different each time and each time it’s consistently good. Prices are OK. Nice open space and they use clean utensils for each person which is good!

I love this place! They have $ 10 manicures and really reasonability priced pedicures and gel manicures. Unlike many reasonably priced salons, they don’t miss spots on the nails and you don’t find your nails chipping a day later. They pay very close attention to detail and are friendly. They give a nice little massage while your nails are drying, too. All in all, my favorite salon I’ve experienced in NYC yet!

I really like this place and I’ve been coming for over a year. The service can vary depending on how busy they are, sometimes they have to move quickly. It’s spotless and the people working here are really nice. In addition the owner is friendly and very accommodating.

Yoki did my mani/​pedi. I’ve never had a pedi before to compare, but the mani was amazing and the most gentle I’ve had. The pedi felt great.
The place is spacious, clean, and brightly lit.
The staff was friendly and prompt.
Every customer gets a newly autoclaved sterile work set.

The Staff at Lovely not only does a wonderful job on everything they do but they also do an incredible job of keeping the place immaculate. The team here makes you feel welcomed and comfortable no matter the time of day or rush you may be in. We recommend Lin and Cindy, but the entire staff is absolutely wonderful in their dedication to perfection and attention to detail.

Mediocre at best. The attendants all look like zombies that don’t want to be here. I could have saved the money and done it myself.

I would normally never take the time out of my day to review a nail salon, but I felt the need to after yesterday’s experience.
I was rushing (aka haul-​ass-​ing) to meet my friend for dinner and desperately needed a mani/​pedi but I was literally supposed to meet her in 30 minutes and was a ten minute walk from the resto.
Ran into the salon and asked how quickly they could do a manicure (thinking there was no way I would have time for both) and when they asked if I wanted a pedicure I told them I was in too much of a rush. The sweet girl at the front desk said they would be able to have them done at the same time and would be able to get me out of there in 20 minutes.
Olivia did my pedicure and Lily did my manicure. They worked quickly, but didn’t let it show — my nails came out PERFECT. and I was out of there in 25 minutes. Not to mention it was $ 30 — bargain.
I work somewhat near this place and it may be my go-​to nail salon from now on. They use a new kit for every customer (which is crucial) and the space itself was lovely. Clean, nicely lit, quite large and comfortable. They had literally every polish known to woman-​kind as well.
Well done ladies :) And thank you!

The worst staff, it’s like they have been specifically instructed to be non-​cooperative and unfriendly.
Coming back here — Never, they are not worth a second chance from me.

Bought a Groupon here for $ 14 that included a mani and pedi. Definitely would not go back and these are the reasons why.
1.) Yes, yes I know, I know. Every single Groupon says appointment required. I tried to call ahead to make an appointment and no one picked up the phone. Fine, I’ll try my luck and just show up. We get there, my friend and I, the place is huge — with about 7 staff and only 3 clients being serviced. They tried to tell us we had to call ahead for an appointment and I explained I did — they said ok make an appointment for 5:30. Really, it was like 4:30 already. About to leave they quickly somehow found availability and said they could see us once I mentioned I’d return the Groupon.
2.) The pedicure is just a standard pedicure, the chair is clean and I like that they seem to use a new mini file for each person. The manicure however sucks. It was the fastest manicure ever and within two days it has already chipped a lot! So basically I just paid for a pedicure because this manicure isn’t going to last me more than one more day.
3.) Not usually this whiney, the service was just sub par. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

I really liked this place! The staff was nice and did a great job. Beautiful place with bright lights and equipment was VERY clean. Totally would recommend it!

I came here with a Groupon for a gel mani-​pedi. The pedicure was fine but the manicure had little bubbles in each nail by the end of the day. The manicurist did a sucky job of trimming my cuticles so there was a visible gap between the gel and my cuticle by day two. The woman at the font desk in the hideously sparkly NYU sweater charged me tax on the retail value of the Groupon ($ 90) as opposed to what I paid for the voucher ($ 35). I explained to her that this was completely illegal but she didn’t want to hear it. I really wanted to like this place but the huge chandelier is still awesome.
