New York Laundromat

This place kind of sucks but only kinda — there are actually worse ones. Just that there’s always Mexicans doing some kind of construction here and the little washing Mexican chicks are always using all the fucking washers.

This is a review about self-​washing and stuff. I personally never drop my clothes here for dry cleaning or wash/​fold. I recommend you not to do as well, there are many better places around this business… However I come here when I do my laundry myself just because the area for washing is pretty spacy for nyc’s laundromat.
Their machines have 4 parts for detergents, you know, the general washing machines you could find in any nyc’s laundromats. They’re like for prewash/​mainwash for each powder/​liquid detergent. It’s also explained so on the machine. The problem is, the two of these on the back do not work, and it includes «MAINWASH» detergent part.
It’s been like that forever. At first, I thought maybe it’s just the one that I used that day. And I’ve been using the others. Today, I happened to stay during the whole wash, and realized, it wasn’t foaming enough. I immediately checked the detergent parts, and again, the mainwash detergent part was not working at all. I finally could ask the female employee why that doesn’t work, and she was like «It does not work, so what? It’s just like that.» ??? And you don’t even inform the customers?
I can’t even count how much detergent and money I’ve wasted at this business. I then requested for a refund for this batch at least, but she declined. I asked for the owner or manager’s number to talk, she declined. ??? She told me maybe I could talk to the manager if I come back tomorrow. It’s f Monday tomorrow, I can’t stop by during weekdays, and even have a trip scheduled.
I could bear no hot water thing although it happens too often here. I could bear the rapid raise on the cost of drying machine. BUT HAVING NOT FULLY FUNCTIONING MACHINES AND NOT INFORMING CUSTOMERS, NOTIFYING ABOUT IT, IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. What’s the difference with ripping customer’s money? It’s a f FRAUD, MAN. I hope 311 takes a good care of my complaint against this business. AFTER READING ALL THE REVIEWS HERE, I REALLY WISH I COULD SPEAK TO THE OWNER IN PERSON. WHAT A SHAME ON THE NAME OF KOREAN.

Update: after three weeks, I was *finally* able to track down the manager. He was appalling — rude, accused me of trying to «trick» them (suggesting I’d sent a friend to collect the bag, and then came to claim its loss), hung up on me three times, and threatened to take me to court (when I suggested that if he doesn’t fulfill his side of the deal by either providing me with my lost bag or reimbursement for said lost bag, I would file a complaint with the city). At one point I peered over his shoulder to see on the screen that I have spent $ 700 over the years at this place — he certainly didn’t acknowledge that I was a loyal customer simply trying to retrieve my stuff. I was shocked and appalled at how he treated me, and called 311. When I told them word for word what he had told me, I was encouraged to call the police and file an official complaint for his threatening behavior (the guy literally screamed at me, loudly and repeatedly, and was threatening in tone). I declined, not wanting to waste police time. However I remained persistent with him, calling hourly, showing up twice daily. I forced him to show me the video of the person collecting my things — in it, you can clearly see that he does not talk to the associate (ie to provide my phone number or show a ticket indicating his right to my bag), but merely points to the IKEA blue bag and is given it. I explained to him that he therefore had not upheld his business responsibility, to which he quipped that most people don’t have tickets when they come to collect. That’s fine, but at the very least he should have been asked for a phone number! Finally he agreed to reimburse me $ 160. The cost of doing the laundry was $ 28, so according to the terms on the back of the ticket, I was eligible for up to $ 280. His decision to give me $ 160 seemed arbitrary and frustrating, but I didn’t have the energy to fight any further with him. I learned a few things from this experience: don’t drop off your laundry in a blue IKEA bag, since the whole city uses the same bag. Keep a list of items you send out for laundry to strengthen argument for reimbursement in the event that its lost. Like I said earlier — mistakes happen, and I could have gotten over it, but the way that I was treated was really outrageous. Although this laundry is right next to my apartment, I will never ever use them again. Would rather shlep my bag across the city before I give this shifty aggressive and downright mean man any more business.

I’ve been going to this place for years and it has totally gone downhill. The last straw is no air conditioning on a hot humid day. The dryer room was a nightmare. I don’t remember it ever being like that before despite the employees saying it was always that way. I don’t know about drop-​off, I always do my own.
