I remember the first time I accidentally stumbled into this hole-​in-​the-​wall (gift shoppe/​chocolaterie) — but what a gem! These cookies made by the owner I presume, are like right off grandma’s kitchen table. Fresh and flavorful — particularly the Australian ginger and also the walnut cranberry. There’s definitely that old world charm in their products. The baked goods left me with such an impression, and not having taken down the address, I spend numerous occasions circling the area to find it again, until I stumbled into it again! W55th street by the now closed Ziegfeld theater, is burned into my brain!

HEAVEN. Seriously this place is incredible. The staff are so friendly and the place is just adorable. The chocolate covered marshmallow is LIFE CHANGING. I just randomly stopped by for a treat, and for $ 5.80 I got a chocolate caramel, chocolate marshmallow, and a big chocolate covered pretzel. A little pricey, but very appropriate for the neighborhood. Absolutely love and will be back!

First time IN NYC and happened to walk into to this little jewel. Someone was in fron of us in line and looked like she knew this place well. I asked her what she recommended because there was so much to choose from and she said the chocolate covered pretzels were her favorite. I took her advice and she was right. Thick pretzels with a thick chocolate coating that melted in my mouth. I also had dark chocolate truffles that MY favorite. I walked out with my bag full of goodies and when finished I told myself I had to go back and get some to bring to my kids in Miami. On my last day, Sunday, I walked up and down several streets looking for it because I couldn’t remember exactly where it was until I found it… sadly, it was closed. I will not skip going to this place on my next trip to NYC, it is an absolute MUST GO!

This shop will take you back in time. Great selection of specialty licorices. Courteous staff.

Imagine a classic candy shop with delicious confections. Go to Myzel’s. So good. A gem of a store. Can’t wait to go back.

Stumbled across this shop while briskly walking down 55^th. Took a double take as there was sidewalk signage stating «Licorice of the World.» With over 100 selections I had to take a peek. I was surprised by the shops old-​fashioned charm and upon walking in I was greeted by two women behind the counter. I inquired about the licorice and was directed to the section on the back wall consisting of all licorice selections. It was a tough choice but I bought a pound of licorice in two flavors, Pineapple and Strawberry ‘n Cream. I briefly took a look around at the shop’s other offerings while my candy was being weighed out but was in a rush and didn’t have a chance to ask about the other treats. In fact while in the store I had no idea what the name was and had to find out online which is how I’m here writing this review.
The licorice was very tasty. I had no idea there was licorice in so many flavors and will have to go back to try the others. This store looks as it’s been in business for quite some time so they must be doing something right.

This is the best licorice place in the entire world. They are so friendly and the licorice is exceptional. I come on a regular basis.

Kamila has a great shop. With all the chocolate and licorice you are sure to find something for yourself or someone you love. If you are in the area at city center or Carnegie hall you will want to stop for a gelato or a gift for someone or just yourself. Get the salted almond crunch bar or pistachio gelato. Can’t go wrong with all the tasty fruit dipped in white milk or dark chocolate. Plus her stories will tell you a bunch about New York City. I can taste the sweets right now. Your family will love you for it.

More than 100 kinds of licorice from around the world, in flavored and styles to fulfill the aficionado’s fancy and the purist’s dreams. Lots of chocolate and other good things too, but this is truly licorice heaven.

Originally opened in 1957, and under the thougtful ownership of Kamila Myzel for the last 20 years, Myzel Chocolates is a trip back in time… an old-​fashioned candy store with an incredible array of choices and home-​baked cookies to die for. Try the butter cookie with Australian ginger. Myzel’s also specializes in licorice. We stumbled upon the store when we were early for a play at the City Center — it’s right across the street. The store was wildly decorated for Halloween — I’ll be returning for the Christmas treats. True serendipity.

Really really tasty strawberry & cream licorice. I’m addicted! I come here about 3x a week for a candy break (but I really need to cut down before I get diabeetus). They also have a nice selection of other candies and chocolate. It’s a good place to get a little gift.
It’s frustrating they barely take credit card ($ 15 min, and it takes them forever to run the card), so come prepared with cash :)

Great option for gifting, or for a mid-​afternoon snack, if you’re in a nearby office (which I am :-). Always fun to see their awesomely kitsch seasonal window displays. But on to the stuff you care about!
The marshmallow chocolate squares are DIVINE!!! The pb cups are awesome. Quality dipped oreo cookies and pretzel rods. But those dark chocolate almonds and that bark. Just outstanding!
They also have tons of other confections, including, like, a bazillion licorices from around the world. Decent cookies/​baked goods. Just good and fun!
The ONLY reason I don’t give a 5-​star review is because they are rather pricey (as in $ 5 just this moment got me two small pb cups, and one large marshmallow heavenly thingy). Mind you, on par with local competitors, though, for the price tag, I can think of one competitor I’d rather go to, if they were closer to my office. And of choco chip cookie bakers I’d go the extra blocks for.
STILL! Myzel’s is phenomenal, high quality, and a complete find! Check them out, and give them all your monies! OM NOM NOM!!!

What’s not to like here? As small as it is, you could spend hours perusing all the options. The family wanted chocolate and I wanted licorice, so we both won. They were happy to give me licorice tastings, but really, I don’t need them… just give me a bag of assorted that you pick out for me and I’ll be surprised and happy. So that’s what happened. I’m still working on my bag… and am happy as a clam. Also — very affordable. I was shocked by the low prices.

Halvah lovers, beware, you will become addicted to the homemade selection here. You will pay in dollars per pound of sweet tahini joy as well as in inches on your rapidly expanding girth.
I’d give this place 5 stars if they weren’t randomly closed in the middle of the day. They tend to be open only when there’s a show at the ballet across the street. Odd hours and no schedule posted on the door.

This tiny, classic sweets shop manages to bring you back to a time when you may not even have been around. The space is chock-​full of the good stuff yet has so few reviews — staff was friendly and the selection was vast. Come for various amounts of various candies to satisfy the sweet tooth/​toothses in your life.

If you like licorice, this place is the place to go. There are 100s of kinds of licorice and different candy.
It reminds me of how I picture candy stores 60 or 70 years ago. All of the candy is behind the counters and the owner and I think her daughter run the shop from the front.
My family is addicted to their licorice so I try to stay away but it’s awesome.
They are incredibly friendly and have lots of different sweets.
I think they are closed on Sunday, which is slightly weird but it’s a mom and pop shop in the city. We need to respect that and support them.

A hole in the wall that’s filled to the brim with sweets? YES, PLEASE! Upon discovering this place through Unilocal,I just had to check it out. I was 10 feet away from the store when the sweet smell of chocolate hit me. I walked in, and I seriously wanted to (partially) break out in song:

$ 16 and one pound of assorted Australian licorice later, I was walking down 6^th Ave with a chorus behind me singing «I’ve Got Everything That I Need» from The Muppet Movie. And now I’m furiously typing this out and ready to bounce off the walls in my office #OMGSUGARRUSH!
