MTA 72nd Street Subway Station

It’s a ht and smelly subway station, but it allows you to transfer to the local or express 1, 2, and 3 trains.
The building is nice and welcoming, but the access to the platform is not the most easy one. The stairs are very narrow and if you happen to enter the station while a train has just arrived, you will be confronted by long lines of people trying to get out and people trying to get in. If there’s a stroller or anyone with large bags, it’s even worse. As a general note, the MTA could add more benches on the subway platforms, as it would help people waiting.

So the 72 street station was one that I used often growing up. I used to be terrible. However a number of years ago they added a second part to it. It now has entrances both north and south of 72. It also has handicapped entrances with elevators in both directions north of 72.

Subway stations are typically nothing special, but there is a certain something about this one. I come here every day for work and am always happy to see the people sitting outside with lunch or a newspaper. The station has great cell service upstairs and downstairs. There has also been a cop on duty every single time I’ve passed through.

This is one of the more well kept stations, it has plenty of ticket machines, plenty standing/​waiting space in the upstairs area, always has employees working in its booths, has 3 trains (2 of them express) that stop, and security is almost always around.
Shall I also mention that there aren’t too many bums and it doesn’t have that urine smell that a lot of other stations have?
All around it has a very good «flow». What more can I really ask for …

I like this station! (as much as one can like a train station, that is)
It’s fairly clean and doesn’t require lots of walking. I have never encountered vermin, bodily fluids, or horrific stenches in here. And, the 1 and 2&3 trains are on the same platform so one can painlessly switch trains.

I don’t always take the subway, but when I do, I usually take it from this station.

This station is one of the nicer and more efficient subway stations. Clean-​ish, and no crazy stairs or pathway to make transfers.
Since it is a transfer and close to Trader Joe’s, it does tend to get packed at peak hours. And when it’s bustling, it makes traveling down the narrow stair cases a little more… inconvenient.

They do have transfers to the local & express trains close by without you having to switch platforms, which is intelligent. If you took an uptown ²⁄₃ and need an uptown 1, you don’t have to climb a flight of stairs to get to the uptown 1 platform. That was a time saver today when I had to go to 79^th street. Not too crowded and it wasn’t messy or filled with homeless people.

Stop at this station to go for a job interview… the station is great very clean & not much travelers be at this station.
