After getting past the ambiguously gay doorman (didn’t wanna let me in because they had a private party, but my threads were tight, on that night anyway), I got my John Collins w/​grenadine from the bartender — a dead ringer for Carrie Ann Moss (of Matrix fame).
No shit.
After lounging in the gallows, I checked out the club. A bunch of rich, sheltered Ivy League brats in Megadeath t-​shirts, arm bands, and quasi-​mullets trying to relive the 80’s hard rock era they were ten years too young to experience.
Only in NYC.
Or in a Bret Easton Ellis novel.
Five stars for the nautical themed lounge with a cool vibe and separate upstairs club layout. We need more spaces like this in the SF Bay.

I haven’t been here in a while… a long while; and judging by the lack of reviews, I’m not even sure they’re still around. My buddy opened this place with some other guys. We’d leave our bar across the street from my roommates old apartment (read my reviews, you’ll figure it out), hop a cab crosstown and drink in the unfinished basement; because apparently, we were those guys who weren’t ruled by things like clocks or closed bars or, ya’know, the sun.
Not to mention, I hate calling in favours and the bouncers used to always give me static and I’d have to call my buddy and wait for him to come get me and then try not to give them the, «my buddy signs your fucking checks, be nice next time!» look.

They want to be «downtown» and «off the radar» where the Misshapes kids can run to when they’re done scoping the scene at wherever they just were, but it’s just too contrived and the drinks are at club prices. They’re trying to be somewhere between a bar and a club – make up your mind. The layout is not sexy at all. The people are boring, and the bathroom line aka «coke line» can take forever because you’ll see 10 people piling into one of the spacious accommodating bathrooms.
Update: I heard Movida closed down in March. There goes that.

I went for a good friend of mine’s birthday. I have to admit, I liked the atmosphere, and the music was pretty good, but it was SMALL and they let way too many people in. I happened to have gone in August, and their AC was pretty messed up, i.e. it was BLAZING hot inside. The bottom floor is kind of cute, grotto-​ish, and I remember thinking the mural near the bathroom was cool (although I could have been drunk, I don’t remember). All in all, a decent place to go.

Went on a Sat night when it is apparently a bit more downtown than mosts (i.e. the peeps who are tired of Misshapes/​DonHills on Sat night). Was in the upstairs room, good music… bar is hard to get to and actually fairly small for the amount of people packed in there. Met my current boyfriend there so who can complain about that?

Talk about high class. Damn, this place was really nice and an amazing party on Halloween. I don’t know how much it usually costs to get in but luckily we got in for free because someone knew the door guy, who’s real cool. Good thing, because I was able to save my money to spend 40+ bucks on one round of regular drinks for 4 people! Well, I guess you pay for what you get. The place has a main floor that is small but cool and an upstairs that is suddenly a hot club. I recommend it for sure, but it’ll cost ya.

Not bad for a West Village weekend, but its attempt at a rockin’ club is somewhat stifled by its cramped entryway and diminuative dance floors. While there are three levels, the price (both for entrance and for the drinks) isn’t quite right for the size. The crowd, however, is usually great.
