Love this wonderful Gyrotonics fitness studio, which I’ve been coming to for a couple of years.
Gyro itself has been pretty miraculous for me in terms of reducing pain, helping me move with fizz and pleasure, and with general well-​being. It reaches lots of little muscles that conventional exercise never seems to get to, it’s good for the mood and excellent for body-​awareness, and it’s a lot of fun to do. I’m not entirely certain why Gyro isn’t as popular as yoga, in fact. It certainly deserves to be. So, if you’re intrigued at all (take a look at some Gyro videos on YouTube), give Gyro a try, darn it. Especially if you’re someone who finds typical gym workouts mechanical and dull, you may find that Gyro (which has a graceful and poetic side to it) offers a nice contrast.
The studio itself is a modest gem — very big on the personal touch, and with nothing industrial or pushy about it. The rates are very reasonable too. The equipment is good, the place is kept in spotless shape, the schedule is sensible and convenient … Though the owners/​instructors are all women and though most of the clients are women, as a guy I’m perfectly comfortable here. I’ve been in Pilates studios where I definitely felt a little like a freak, as the one straight guy there. But there’s nothing remotely girly about Gyro.
I’ve taken classes with most of the instructors at Movement and Beyond and, while Joana Correa is my special favorite, I’ve liked them all. They’re all well-​trained, helpful, fun, insightful and encouraging, and they all bring their own special knack to their coaching. They’ll all make sure you’ll get a good workout, and that you’ll learn something new in each class.
Highly recommended. Of all the gyms and studios I’ve tried in NYC in my many years here, it’s my favorite. And of all the exercise/​fitness techniques I’ve tried while here in the city, Gyro is definitely my fave.

This is a gyrotonics studio. I’ve worked with an instructor here for about two years now and I cannot say enough good things about her. She has done wonders to correct my alignment and strengthen my body. She is definitely among the most important people I’ve met who have helped my body regain itself following a car accident.
Although I have not worked with all the instructors here, I have watched them all work. They are all incredibly talented and aware. I would recommend any of them. If you have not tried Gyrotonics, it’s an amazing discipline and this is a great place to try it.
