History
Established in 1986.
Founded by Rob Kahn, Mixology was first known as RK/music and gained notoriety developing themes for CNN and ABC News while creating audio signatures for some of the most important, recognizable and effective branding campaigns of that time including HBO. This included «earcons», and Kahn invented the sound that billions of people heard when AT&T connected their calls — and one of the most recognizable «audio signatures» of the 1980s. RK/music eventually expanded into a full-fledged audio production house creating original music and sound design for TV, ad agencies and design firms. In 2003, Mixology, the company’s audio post production division, was founded. This allowed RK/music to handle original music production, licensing, music production and licensing while audio post projects would be managed by Mixology. In 2010 the decision was made to fully integrate both companies into Mixology, thus creating NYC’s most reputable and dynamic full-service audio agency.
