Snooty staff people laughed behind my back immediately after I asked a question. What the?!

I own two large Mitchell Gold slipcovered chairs with ottomans that I purchased 17 years ago and they still look great… which is why I decided to back to Mitchell Gold+Bob Williams when I needed to replace furniture for another room. I purchased the Cara sofa, Cara tall chair, Avery chair, and a pull up end table. The showroom salespeople were wonderful to deal with and even moved furniture all around the showroom for me. They brought all the pieces I was interested in all together and spent so much time with me going over fabric selections (placing large swatches of fabric on each item so I could really get a visual of how it would look) however, once my order was placed, it did take several weeks for the furniture to arrive (which is understandable due to the custom fabrics I selected) but all in all, it was well worth the wait.
I love my MG+BW furniture!

excellent service and deep discount sales (last time I was in the store there were 70% off items). The furniture quality is in line with the price point. Never had any issues with deliveries or installation that are mentioned in other reviews.

Began with waiting an hour for salesperson. Couch arrived damaged. MGBW sent a demented repair person who said my floors and sunlight made sofa appear nonaligned. Manager would not listen despite many photos of evidence. Took months of effort. Furniture replaced but fabric wore out where people sat quickly
Go elsewhere.

Way over priced — we bought a $ 2000 carpet that we were told was a natural silk carpet — actually cheap viscose (polyester), not natural and toxic according to Google searches. When we asked to return it; they had 100 excuses why not to.
The furniture is laminate — not natural wood either and fades and chips very quickly.
Cheap stuff sold very expensive.

So disappointed! I was so excited to buy my new couch which for me was very pricey at almost $ 6,000 but I was comfortable with that for a great and beautiful one. Well it was beautiful for the first days but I noticed almost immediately that the cushions did not have much support. I notified mg and they sent someone over who didn’t really feel it but they changed the cushions nonetheless. It didn’t make a difference. It was the couch. But they didn’t care. It was a custom couch (which most if not all are there I thought) and so after only having the couch for a month I had to buy some plywood to put under the cushions to make them firmer though not sufficient I emailed mg several times before and after that and they said that there is nothing they can do. This is awful customer service and unexpected if a company wants to build return customers. So if you want a poorly constructed couch for a lot of money go here. I’m appalled by the poor customer service and will not buy anything from here again.

I’ve bought a number of pieces of upholstered furniture from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams over the years, and I’ve always been really happy with the furniture. Also, the sales people I’ve worked with have been great. Most recently, Joshue Espinal helped me pick out an armchair and choose the fabric for it. He was very knowledgable about the furniture, helpful with fabric options, and patient with my decision-​making process.

This place is sincerely disgusting. I have attended their annual TOP 50 Designers event for the last 2 years. THEY EMAILED me to save the save the date, 9÷17÷2014. My friend reminded me that we had it in our calendar, so I called the showroom the day before to put our names down. The lady said we were all set! I show up to the event with my friend and they said we’re not on the list. The guy, CHRIS, made me out to be some CRIMINAL. That I’m trying to sneak into their RIDICULOUS event. He said everyone needs to have a business card and will make an exception. I said my friend’s parking and he says we all need to be together in order to attend. So we’re waiting and decided we don’t want to go. I said, «We decided never mind. Sorry for the miscommunication with your lady at your showroom.» He was like «We’ll put you on next year’s list» with his snotty attitude. I’ve never been SO DISGUSTED IN MY LIFE. YOU’RE NOT GOD’S GIFT ON EARTH when you’re the one who sent me the SAVE THE DATE INVITATION! GO TO HELL!!! Thanks!

Service=awful
Walked up to front counter and asked a rather slight blonde-​ish man for a dresser, approximately 50 inches tall, to put in a bedroom. Given my very specific need I expected some direction as to whether they had such a piece and where in the store I could find it. I was taken aback when he quickly and simply responded– look around the store. Rude, unhelpful, and simply terrible customer service.

Bought a very expensive custom made couch and its a piece of crap. Over $ 4000 later, not even 6 months and it looks like I have had it for years. Its tufted and every time someone sits on it the buttons pop out and get hitched to pants and if not careful will be pulled out of couch. The cushions are so warped already and I can count how many times we have sat on couch because it is in our formal living room and most of our time is spent in the TV room.
So disappointed, cant believe I spent so much on something that I thought would last me a while. Not worth the money at all nor wait for delivery!

Bought the Alex Super Luxe sleeper sofa. Paid around $ 3,500 thinking we were buying top of the line. This is quite possibly the worst sofa we have ever owned. The cushions are bumpy, wrinkly and I’ll fitting. They sent a specialist out to our home and this person was rude and aggressive. He took the inserts out and reinserted them and said «there, much better.» He was sweating profusely and he smelled badly. We couldn’t wait for him to leave. Terrible experience. They refuse to refund or even exchange the sofa as it was a custom order. They said the sofa has a country cottage look to it … which it doesn’t. It has an ugly look to it! Trust me, do not shop here, they do not stand behind their products and accept no responsibility for defects. We are so upset.

The store in NYC is great. The sales people are very helpful when making the purchase.
Trouble is once the purchase is made the sales team is pretty helpless. THe organization does not have a great place to track delivery status. You get vague dates — and was told that the warehouse people will call you when they get the delivery. Which is when?
Service is as critical as making the sale. It will be great if they can improve on their after sale service.

After combing through a ton of reviews, blogs, sites, etc. for the best place to buy a couch from in NYC (without spending $ 10k), I decided on Mitchell Gold. Lots of positive reviews about there quality, and only a handful a disgruntled people about the timing of the delivery. But I wasn’t in a rush and would much rather wait for a quality piece of furniture than have something pre-​made in China that will fall apart in a couple months /​year or two. It’s like when going to a restaurant and the food coming out wayyyy too quick (meaning you know it was just microwaved or sitting around getting stale).
Anyways I took my wife and daughter to this location yesterday. Salespeople didn’t run u to us, and instead just let us look around, try all the couches, until we actually needed some help. When we did, we met Melody who was absolutely great. While my wife was very set on buying a couch that day, I was OK with just looking around, and perhaps sitting on the decision overnight. Melody told us about the ones we were interested in, offered us fabric swatches to take home to see what colors would match, helped us understand which of the fabric would be best with a 3 year old (who loves to put Playdoh and markers on everything now), and which had removable covers that could be thrown in the wash.
In the end, we ended up deciding on the Hunter couch just as it was on display in the store. Also since it was a piece of furniture they sell fairly often, and they have the fabric we chose in stock, the delivery time is only 2 – 3 weeks (versus 7−8+ for other styles). We were super happy with the experience and honestly if it takes another week or two or three to receive it, I won’t care, b/​c this is something we’re looking to keep forever.

Okay, bumping them up a star because after emailing the Unilocal review to the warranty dept at MItchell Gold headquarters, the store manager called me and said she thought this had been handled. which I didn’t believe since the previous person had told me it had been kicked up to the manager to handle. She then stated that they would fix the springs as per the warranty. Finally this week, a month after my post, the repair people came and fixed the couch to my client’s satisfaction. I’m not taking the other review down because I don’t think anyone should have to go through all this to get a company to honor a warranty. I also don’t think anything would have been done at all if it had been my clients alone, trying to make it happen.

This place is horrendous. I ordered furniture from this place in JUNE and it’s now mid September and the only thing I have to show for my money are various emails telling me my furniture delivery is delayed. Furthermore, there is literally NO customer service. Thee is one telephone number that leads to one person who never calls back unless you call and complain to the store. When she does call you back she has no idea who you are or what you want. They offered me free shipping but I need the furniture, not $ 100. If you NEED furniture go elsewhere.

I was just about to close on my first apartment, and I wanted to get rid of a lot of the Ikea and Target furniture that I had accumulated throughout the years. In particular, my six year old, $ 450 couch was ready to go, and I was happy to see it leave. But what to replace it with? I looked high and low, from mainline Macy’s and Crate and Barrel to Jensen Lewis and Blu Dot. I almost settled on a piece from Room and Board before I found the Hunter at Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. Modern and rectilinear, and yet very comfortable, it answered my prayers for a midcentury modern look and high quality without breaking my budget. It even had metal eyelets on the edges of the seat cushions to keep them clipped into place so they didn’t shuffle around during use. Nicely thought out addition. Josue (apologies if I spelled that wrong) was very helpful, showing me all of the possible options on not just the Hunter, but also other models in the store I may have been interested in.
Knowing my coop’s elevators are relatively small, I requested the measurement service that MG+BW offer. The measurement guys came on time and worked with my Super to check on how to bring it upstairs. They gave me the thumbs up and I thought we were all set. This is where my story takes a turn — despite the positive measurements, the day the couch arrived, it could not fit in the elevator, no matter what they tried. Legs off, cushions off, rotating and pivoting, nothing would get the couch into the elevator. Disappointed and saddened, I spoke with MG+BW about my options. They could either pay for AFS (All Furniture Services) to disassemble my brand new couch (at the expense of my lifetime warranty), or I could make a different selection or return the couch. After initially choosing to get the couch disassembled, I changed my mind the following day and requested a refund. Despite my equivocation, MG+BW Customer Care was always professional, courteous, and understanding.
I’m still disappointed that my dream couch couldn’t fit into the elevator (it was a Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams 90″ Hunter in Keswick Navy), and I’d buy a smaller size in an instant if one were available. That said, aside from the error in the original measuring service, I would wholeheartedly recommend someone looking for quality furniture and great service to visit MG+BW.
The one star off is strictly for the measuring error, otherwise I would give this store 5 stars.

I visited Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams several times in the early phases of furnishing a new apartment. Their collections are clean and modern, with moderate pricetags. The furniture is finished well, but unlike other (many unhappy) reviewers, I cannot attest to its long-​term durability. Their website is organized and thorough, but I recommend visiting the showroom to personally see and feel the products. The sofas are seriously comfortable.
The attentiveness of the staff is variable, depending on the individual. When we sought assistance, our questions were answered. In general, the staff seemed to act indifferent to browsing customers.
Impression: Clean, modern comfort.
Plan to return: I will keep them in mind.

Do not waste your $$ here. YES they have nice designs which is the reason i bought my furniture here, but their prices are not cheap and as such I expect a quality item. NOT. I purchased a sectional here and customized the fabric to one that the sales clerk suggested. Could not be more disappointed at the fabric and not to mention the sofa itself. It does not look or feel as the one on their sales floor which was the one I liked how it looked, felt etc… the one I received is a very cheap looking and feeling sofa. The cushion inserts are so cheap i lift them with one finger. i had an ikea sofa prior to this purchase and i am not even kidding it had a better feel to it and better cushion inserts. You would think because its a more expensive store you will be getting better quality! I cannot return it because here’s the next trap — I had to order it be disassembled because it «would not fit in the freight elevator of my building» and once it’s disassembled it’s yours. My sofa was a 2 piece that I specifically ordered so it would fit– I had already measured the doors/​elevators, but they insist and essentially leave you no choice but to pay the extra $$ to get it disassembled.
The next horrible and annoying service is the delivery. Cannot be any more incompetent and disorganized between Mitchell gold and their delivery liaison. Mitchell golds approach is to simply wash their hands saying once they pick it up from their warehouse it’s not their responsibility. Horrible customer service.
Last but not least the sectional was supposed to have connectors added as part of the entire package which their delivery + assembly personnel did not do. When I call them to request they come back and add the connectors they bounce the ball back to Mitchell gold saying they needed to supply it for them and so forth. So I am left with a cheaply made sofa that I paid top dollar for and every time someone sits on it, it separates — can’t get more annoying! Now i’m bouncing back and forth between Mitchell gold and furniture assemblers for the connectors because of their lack of coordination. SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE AND INVEST YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY IN REAL QUALITY NOT. a STORE THAT FOOLS U WITH THEIR LUXURIOUS LOOK AND FEEL AND DELIVERS ANYTHING BUT. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Ordered an upholstered bed from Mitchell Gold… the fabric had a toxic smell that no amount of fabreeze or airing out could cure… had to return it and received another, same problem, could not accept delivery… Why make this???
bought custom covered Cara swivel chairs… they make a god awful noise, even after spraying with wd-40…for this price, that shouldn’t be.

This is truly a place for people «tired of IKEA», as they’ve been reviewed.
Custom-​furniture can be made here, or you can pick any one of their modernist furniture that’s both mature and classic in its own way. Lots of leather upholstery and fine linens here.
Caters to a rich crowd, though. Nothing here is cheap. Even the small end table would’ve cost me $ 200+.
