Midori Tea

this joint has been closed everytime i walk past it for the past few months. just thought i’d throw that out there.

After a disappointing experience at another boba place, I was determined to find one I’d like. We found this place on Unilocal and thought we’d check it out.
As we were walking to it, we walked by COCO. The line was insane there. I almost decided to stop searching for this place and just went in, but the Cousin reminded me that we took the subway just to find Midori, not COCO and I’d always wonder about it if I didn’t make it. Okay, fine. We figured we had more time in NYC, we would go try COCO (sadly, we didn’t; next time though).
Tiny and empty shop when we got there. Oh no, that can’t be a good sign. There’s only a couple of teenagers there, which we found out later turned out to be friends of the guy working there.
Almond milk tea for me, taro milk tea for the cousin, and the Mr clearly asked for tea withOUT boba, but his came with boba. The boba itself is not bad, but the tea, sweet sweet sweet sweet. Wow. lay off the sugar, dude.
This is definitely not a place you go to hang out since there’s really no place to sit. You go, order, get your stuff and out of there.

Came here for bubble tea today instead of going to COCO, wanted to try something new… but i think with Coco down the street, competition is pretty rough.
I ordered the Taro Bubble Tea, which i found was soso… the tapioca was ok… but the taro bubble tea tasted really powdery… after i finished it, i felt a little nauseous. not sure what type of milk it was… but it wasnt making me feel too good…=/

Small tea shop located near Baruch College. I’m a big fan of bubble tea, so when I heard of a new shop opening up, I had to give it a try. I had my usual. Almond milk tea w/​boba. The first time ordering, I found the tea to be a bit on the sweet side. The second time I ordered, I requested less sugar, and it was perfect. The price is comparable to St. Alps, which is a tad more expensive than Quicklys.
Definately, the best spot in the area. Usually I would have to trek all the way to St. Alps to get some good tea. I can’t wait to try the other items on the menu.

MIDORI is the best boba place you will find in the area. I like sticking with my regular orders which is either honey jasmine tea w/​boba or lychee green tea w/​boba. It’s refreshing!

Popped in here last week on a freezing nite… had an event to attend… and had some time to kill… so what the heck!
First time having bubble tea…(have had it on my list for years… just never got around to it)… and instead of going with hot… I went with cold almond tea w/tapioca…and it was delicious… Now I forgot to ask what type of mik they used… because I only drink rice/​almond milk… I don’t think it was cow’s milk… because I didn’t have an upset stomach the next day… (pheww…lol)… Sister had hot/​vanilla latte… and she loved it… My tea was perfectly sweet… and the tapioca pearls had a great consistency… but not much flavour… If I’m in the area again… I will stop back for another cup… perhaps hot this time… maybe Taro? or Coconut? or Sesame… so many choices… :)
PS — I really like the little complimentary tray with different infused syrups… nice touch…

I don’t think that they are completely done decorating inside yet because the walls are all totally bare. You walk in and just see a bar with a guy standing there. He was fast though, and the tea was good. Their posted inside said that they are serving snacks, but there was no food to be purchased when I visited.
I tried the iced lemon tea with agar. I should have asked for less sugar because it was like Quickly sweet. They use syrups and everything else that other places use. Even though the tea said that it had naturally brewed flavor, which led me to believe that there would be green tea mixed with lemon peel and brewed together, just sayin’. But, I was right across the street, so I just had to give them a try.

I would love to give this place a solid 4 stars, but can’t (just yet). I have to say this is the best place in the neighborhood. Although there aren’t many options. However, the tea is authentic and the pearls are made just right. I only tried the green milk tea, but next time I may try the almond. The person working behind the counter said the almond powder is made from real almonds and not the artificial powder. The reason it’s not quite four stars is b/​c the tea is good, but not great. That said, this is still going to be my go to place in the ‘hood.
They have a frequent buyer card which is another plus and they give students a discount when you present your ID. Definitely worth checking out.

Fair enough. I went back to Midori for another taste.
Again, I got green tea milk tea with tapioca. For the most part, it was good. The tea was alright. Milk was okay. The tapioca was a bit on the soft (rather than chewy and soft) side. The drink itself was a bit overly sweet and somewhat watery. I had finished the drink before much of the ice had the chance to melt so I doubt it was the melted ice that spoiled my drink.
I actually had a friend tastes my drink. She’s not hardcore bubble tea drinker like me, but she did tell me that Tenren tasted better. But I will say that Midori is better than Quickly’s, Kung Fu Tea and all the other so-​called bubble tea makers out there.
If I’m ever lazy to go to Tenren, this will probably be my spot.

They were actually REALLY good in the beginning. Their Taro bubble tea actually has a strong taro aura in which many other bubble tea shops lack nowadays. Their coconut bubble tea and coffee bubble tea was good too. I was looking forward to trying more of their bubble tea. Unfortunately, they started getting cheap on their ingredients. I retried all the previous bubble teas I got from this place and I noticed a big difference. No longer does the taro bubble tea have a taro taste. It’s very mild. I was quite happy that I actually found a good bubble tea place. I’m quite disappointed that they’ve gotten worse.

My $ 3.50 regular creamy vanilla chai with aloe and tapioca tasted like Cinnamon Toast Crunch in milk. Awesome. The cashier was totally friendly. Definitely coming back to try more flavors/​types. Cash only!

this is the best bubble tea i’ve ever tasted… the slushies are very good. my personal favorite is taro and vanilla chai.
and the owner is super nice!
but in all honesty, what’s great about Midori is that it’s in a perfect location. It is located half a block from Baruch College. and I no longer have to take a 25 minute train ride from school to Chinatown to get some bubble tea.

right now their having a grand opening event which is 20% off all drinks. This is the sort of place i would love to go back to and hangout with my friends.

I stopped by here with my girlfriend after dinner to grab a bubble tea and see how it compared to what I’ve had in the past, particularly Teariffic in Chinatown (which I use as my evaluation standard for bubble tea places). We got a fairly standard drink — black tea with milk, along with tapioca — but we were pleasantly surprised to see that we could add some additional toppings in for free, so we decided to put in some aloe and lychee jellies as well. The fruit was quite fresh relative to some of the more artificially sweet toppings I’ve had elsewhere, and it added a nice fruity twist to what is usually a milky drink. The tea was also not as sweet as Teariffic, but it wasn’t bland either; it was the right mix. The tapioca was also just the right texture — not too chewy, but not too firm. With their grand opening special, it’s a hard deal to beat at $ 2.50…and I don’t have to go all the way down to Chinatown, either. Given it’s only half a block from my apartment, I’ll probably end up frequenting the shop quite a bit. I was sad to see Latin Thing (the previous occupant) go, but this is a very nice addition to the local eateries in the Gramercy/​Murray Hill area.

The people there definitely have experience making bubble tea.
If people have tried Ten Ren, this is a Ten Ren equivalent.
I decided to be safe for my first time trying this place so I ordered a Thai Milk Tea (my favorite). It was very well made and since it’s grand opening it was 20% off. $ 3.50 for a big drink made me very satisfied.
I wish there was more ‘seating’ but I forgive them since it is fairly new. I believe it is inexpensive even though it’s next to a college. I expect them to add more flavors on their menus and maybe little snacks here and there.
Just talking about this makes me thirsty.
I say everyone should try it! Buy a Baoguette next door and hop over here for some delicious tea!

The guy working there was very kind and approachable.
Their small size is awesome: 12 oz. — which I think is awesome. It’s so cute, too! And they don’t skimp on bubbles! $ 2.50 is the perfect price, as well.
Probably the sweetest bubbles I’ve had, but not too crazy.
I look forward to trying more flavors here.
