Went in for the happy hour margaritas and they were very lackluster and boring. Bartender was very inattentive — would not go back. Move on to the next place.

Fine if your only experience with Mexican food or BBQ have been east coast or chain restaurants. Good menu options but bland execution. Cocktails are worth trying especially the punch. ***PAYINCASH*** Both cards used at our table were used fraudulently a week later. With the help of Wells Fargo we were able to track it to this restaurant.

Affordable happy hour spot! First encounter with Mexicue’s food was at the Hudson Hotel’s Tequila Park Taqueria that played host to the Thrillist’s 2015 Taco Knockout. Even in a sea of tacos, Mexicue stood out. Their taco won top honors as voted on by attendees. I have since made more than a few happy hour visits and am digging their food, drinks, and prices. Happy hour deals from 4pm-7pm every night are on point. $ 1 tacos and $ 5 house margaritas do not disappoint. Even the $ 1 tacos are filling and packed with flavor and the $ 5 margaritas are better than most for a house drink. Guac is good, chips are average, and I warn against the Mexican street corn — it tastes like frozen then boiled corn on the cob slathered in mayo and coated in Parmesan. Not appetizing and completely missing the char and flavor I look for in Mexican street corn. The service is bad if you sit anywhere but at the bar and the place, while decorated nicely, is lacking in ambiance and is often empty. Grab a couple of happy hour tacos and drinks and walk the ten minutes to catch a UCB show.

Pros– Decent food, nice ambiance, reasonable prices. Cons– VERY slow service(no water refills without asking, didn’t take our orders for 20 minutes or bring the check for 20 minutes)

It was a good experience. We had $ 2 happy hour tacos which was delicious. $ 5 margaritas was good as well.

Just visited here today 1÷16÷16. We really like that it was happy hour even though it was a Saturday usually most restaurants only have it during weekdays. We each ordered three tacos and tried to the blackened Fish, Cajun shrimp, chicken, shrooms, And carnitas. All of them were very delicious except for the chicken and the carnitas, it was a little too much BBQ flavor and not enough Mexican. However we really loved the fish tacos. Guacamole is $ 11 but has a really large helping of it, definitely enough for 2 – 3 people Overall it was a good experience!

Decent ambience and service when we went at around 11pm on a Saturday night; the place was practically empty. Unfortunately, the only vegan food they seem to have is salad(sans cheese) and chips + guac. Not even the avocado shroom tacos can be made vegan just by taking the cheese out since the mushrooms are cooked in butter. Sad face. The chips and guac are good, but I can’t give a higher rating with such a limited vegan selection. Changing my 3-star to a 1-star to counteract my carnivorous zucchini’s 5-star review.

Food is alright and drinks are tasty, but could have been a little bit stronger. We started with the guac was really tasty, though chips were average. I ordered the blackened fish and avocado shroom tacos: I enjoyed the fish taco, but the shroom one was overly spiced(do not recommend it). Lastly, I tried a bite of a friend’s kale salad, which was alright. Ambience is nice though the evening we were there, the restaurant felt grossly humid. It literally felt like«smoke house» fumes from the kitchen dissipated into the dining area. However, I didn’t see a similar experience in other reviews so it could have just been an off night. In summary, it’s an okay place to eat if you’re pressed for finding an inexpensive, casual meal but certainly don’t come out of your way to eat here.

We’ve here a few times. We like it. Good is FRESH-fish tacos & shrimp. The margaritas are also good(although a little overpriced) Service is usually good, although today was a bit slower due to SantaCon. Understaffed. Our server apologized, and the host helped out as much as possible. We will return again. Good place to go for food.

This place was a such a great find! After hitting up 24hour fitness next door, my husband pointed out this spot. The place looked pretty new, really clean, and had a pleasant ambience. The host and server were welcoming and really chill. We wanted something light after our workout so we went with the shrimp tacos chips and salsa. We also tried the Bloody Mary and Bloody Maria which tasted great and had a good amount of alcohol in them. Small glass for 5 bucks. We asked about weekday happy hours and they have $ 5 margaritas, $ 3 tecates, and $ 2 fireball shots. yeah. new gem. Def coming back!

I been to this place twice for lunch and it has been a good idea both times. For going around lunch time i can say the wait hasn’t been bad. The staff is friendly and check up on you often. I have tried the guacamole both mild and spicy and they are both delicious and most say not spicy at all for me. The corn and carnitas tacos are also a great choice. Everything was great I will definitely be back.

I came here for lunch with a colleague on a Thursday at noon. The place was still very new so we didn’t make a reservation but were seated immediately. It was completely packed within 30 mins. We had guacamole(delicious) and corn(add lime for a zest) as appetizers and chicken tacos(even tastier) as an entrée. Everything was great. Service was fantastic. I have pending reservations to return for lunch again! A+

Hands down, one of the best veggie burritos I’ve had.(this review is mainly on the burrito) Now, that may sound silly, but trust me, I’ve been to a lot of places where they have messed up a veggie burrito, or it’s just your standard tortilla with beans, cheese, rice, and some grilled veggies. That gets boring. Mexicue’s veggie burrito hits it home with an amazing flavor profile and has the right balance of crunchy, salty, and spicy. Their house slaw, chipotle sauce, and corn salsa work fantastically together, and they give the rice and beans a nice balance. There’s a little crispy arugula and the corn has this crunch that lets you know it’s fresh. I got jalapenos on the side and put them on to give this burrito some extra kick. Albeit, it was a bit dry, but their two hot sauces — homemade sauce in the red bottle and another smaller green sauce they gave me in a bowl, were both very good. The sauce in the red bottle has a smoky taste to it, which I enjoyed. My roommate and I sat at the bar for dinner last night and the bartender was a very nice guy. I ordered the spicy margarita and asked him to make it as spicy as he could, and he definitely did that. It was probably the spiciest margarita I’ve ever had… made my eyes water a bit and clear my sinuses — but I asked for it. However, it still tasted great. The ambiance is really nice, with an open floor concept and wooden tables/walls. The bar is super nice and contemporary, and they don’t have TVs. The only knock would be their Mexican street corn — I wasn’t a big fan. It’s a small cob with really small kernels of corn, and they had the cheese, but there wasn’t much else to it… no additional spices/flavors/etc. Also, if you’re charging me $ 5, I’d expect a little more out of it. Overall, a solid place. They don’t have many vegetarian options, but as I mentioned, their burrito is fantastic.

I had the kale bowl which came with arugula, pepitas, Pico de gallo, sprouts, a sprinkle of cheese, and beams and added smoked chicken for $ 3, for a total of $ 13. I really enjoyed the meal. It was prepared fast, was filling and I have half a bowl left over. I think the next time I’ll get it without the beans. The service as I mentioned was fast, and everyone was friendly.

I love love love this place! I work in midtown and like to walk to Madison sq park, walk passed this place a couple of times and decided to come here for happy hour one day. Mexican food is one of my favorite types of food and tried a good amount of Mexican food in New York/north east area. Although this place is not authentic, it’s a good blend fusion of barbecue and Mexican cuisine(hence the name) This place has the best margaritas I’ve ever had — $ 5 during happy hour is such a great price too. Their Bulldogs are good too. The spicy Guac is soooo good, veggie burritos are very good, fish tacos are very good, shrimp tacos are very good. The corn is okay, not as good as café habana. The Mac and cheese is BAD, do not get. Overall this place has become one of my fave places for happy hour/dinner. The staff is very friendly and service is great.

Came here for a late-night bite with my boyfriend after a long, stressful day. We were drawn in by the relaxed atmosphere and the tasty sounding menu. Indeed, the plush booth seating was very comfortable. Had a glass of Chardonnay from Argentina. Sweeter than I usually prefer, but it was a high-quality wine. My boyfriend had some sort of chocolate and coffee infused cocktail, and he seemed to enjoy it. I got the nachos, they were satisfactory. My boyfriend got a dish resembling a pot roast, and inhaled it. My problem is not so much regarding the food quality or the atmosphere. I’ll explain… We waited longer than I would have liked to order and receive our drinks; however, this is a forgivable offense, until it’s compounded with the other factors I’m about to describe. The waitress was bizarre in her conduct. I’m slow to pick up on certain things, so at first, I thought she was just being friendly when she conversed with my boyfriend for unusual lengths of time. Then, I realized that she wasn’t even acknowledging my presence. My tendency to second-guess myself made me feel hesitant to conclude that her behavior was inappropriate… …until she started describing to him the outfits she used to wear at her previous place of employment, which happens to be a strip club. At this point, I began to wonder if I was being subjected to a hidden camera prank. I might as well have offered my seat to her, since she was evidently joining us for dinner. Considering the fact that I am constantly reminding myself not to over-analyze a situation, and I can’t seem to shrug off this extremely uncomfortable and awkward evening, I feel I am justified in writing this blatantly honest review. There’s a fine line between understanding that a server is working a little too hard for their tip and therefore being overly friendly, and a server who thinks being provocative is the way to go. If we had been at Hooters, the latter would have made sense; however, Mexicue is not that type of establishment. I apologize to the management for this review, for I feel that it is not their fault that this happened. We, or at least I, won’t be returning here.

I came here after a few drinks across the street and the place was about half full which isn’t bad since it was pretty late. I didn’t try any of their drinks since I just wanted to eat but they have a very large selection of bourbon which I loved since that’s my drink of choice. I decided to go with the chicken enchiladas suizas which is what I get at pretty much every Mexican restaurant I go to. I love the presentation and it was a pretty large size, the flavor was good but it was a bit too spicy for my taste. My dinner companion had a chicken/shrimp burrito which he really seem to enjoy.

Oh, how excited I was when we passed by Mexicue on 5th Ave. Mexican &BBQ… Sounds delicious! Unfortunately, this was not the case. You really can’t miss Mexicue when walking by and the décor is practically all wooden. It’s definitely inviting and we were greeted warmly by the hostess. It was happy hour so we opted for the $ 5 margaritas to start. They were a little heavy on the salt though. For a starter, we ordered the jalapeño guacamole. It was a bit lacking… for a regular order of guac, it was great! Chips were crispy, the guac was fresh; however, for a jalapeño order, there was barely any spice or kick to the dish. Still enjoyed it nonetheless. Plus, it came out almost instantly, so that was awesome. I ordered the spicy brisket enchiladas(oh, why, oh, why didn’t I stick with chicken like I usually do?!) and upon receiving them, you wouldn’t be able to tell they were enchiladas as they were baked in a small dish smothered in sauce and cheeses. The entrée came with a side salad or mixed greens and arugula, but the dressing was just bitter. Didn’t touch it after two bites. The actual enchiladas were tender and spicy(yes!). Tip to the owner/chef, serve this dish with your guac! The guacamole from my appetizer was the perfect addition to the enchiladas to complete the dish. They were 10 times better paired together. All in all, a «meh» experience. I wouldn’t go back on my own accord. Service was definitely present, but food and drinks could use some serious work. P. S. They don’t serve Coronas =(

Give me my 2 favorite foods — Mexican &BBQ and I’m happy! The menu is great here, with so much to chose from, it took us a while to make our choice. The décor here is also really cool, with bare brick walls and industrial accents. I really liked it! My hubby and I decided to share a couple of dishes, so we went for the burnt end burrito and one of the vegetable bowls and added chicken and got a side of Mac & cheese. I’m not sure if it was the particular dishes we got but they had a kick to them and were on the spicy side! So much so that the Mac & cheese was a nice creamy relief! The food was great and a good portion size. Service was also very prompt with our server refilling our drinks before we had to ask and bringing our cheque straight away once we had finished. I know there a few of these restaurants around, so will definitely visit another when looking for an evening meal.
