Good school learning alot. Some classes are hybrid meaning Thru Moodle the online service. Pretty much all the coursework that you’re taking in class can also be online if the professor puts it online other professors of course are very traditional so they would rather have you do things in class. The only class that I dislike this far is the critical thinking and writing class I think the professors is a bit racial intensive and alot of the course is about races and stigma and idk just not very appropriate. I don’t know what it is because the class is primarily urban. But, Still i am not and im a business major. Besides that I’m getting my education is worth and it has been very life enriching going to the school and I look forward to finishing what I have started.

I almost gave this review 2 stars because 90% of the professors I had were good. They had legitimate experience in the NYC public school sector and they themselves had attended prestigious schools for their MS Ed/​Ed D’s. Most of my professors were great and I learned a lot and appreciated their guidance. Were I to be rating this on the school itself, as in administration, I’d give it a 0.
I feel it necessary to inform anyone that may be considering this college to be aware that administration (at least in my experience) is in place for the sole purpose of making money, and NOTHING else. I had several classmates in my «purposes» (the name for semesters at this school) who were nice people, but not cut out for graduate school; however they were not kicked out of the program regardless of how poorly they did. Constant absences, projects not turned in on time, tests failed, etc… and yet they remained in the program, simply told to repeat the «purpose.» If you have a chronic problem with attendance, task assignments, deadlines, etc., you probably just don’t have the personality/​commitment to become a teacher (imagine an elementary school teacher late to class? Lesson plans not finished?), and the administrators of any legit college should have the decency to let a student know this, instead of having them waste their money semester after semester. In my opinion, this approach on behalf of MCNY was simply to have students (many of which are from lower income areas or foreigners) take out more and more loans so students can put it back in the school.
The registrar’s office is inept. I went there to ask them for a copy of my undergraduate transcript (NOT from MCNY) and was told I was not allowed to access it. After looking this up online, I found that under FERPA guidelines, students are allowed to any of their records. This school had no idea. Any school that takes itself seriously should be fully aware of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974. Not knowing this inside and out is akin to a doctor’s office not knowing what HIPPA is and giving private medical records to friends for their reading enjoyment.
The administration in my program was dishonest. Period. During the time of the hiring freeze, my cohorts and I were repeatedly told that a particular professor (said to be influential) had been speaking with the NYCDOE and knew that this freeze would be lifted by the time we finished school. After a semester and a half my cohorts and i were beyond skeptical of this, and yet the administration kept feeding this to us. In the end, the hiring freeze was in its peak when we completed school. I find it inexcusable for an educational organization to not tell the truth to its students.
I haven’t visited the school since I graduated, but I’m hoping that they have gotten rid of the atlas in the library that showed the USSR, and that they’ve updated their computers and printers in their «library,» which had fewer books than I’ve seen in some elementary schools. I see these disgusting ads on the subway, touting their graduates’ accomplishments, but having been there first hand, I can’t help but want to warn others that these success stories that they advertise (actually, the ads just tout that someone has graduated, which isn’t hard when a school won’t get rid of you) are most likely the 1% of graduates who did well on a fluke. Half of the ads have awful grammar. Nice. For the record, I graduated with a 3.99.
Buyer beware. Just because an open house is welcoming and you hear from a graduate working in the field which you’re interested in studying does not mean that you’ll be getting a good experience. It’s also important to note that if you’re going there for a degree such as an MBA and plan to apply for financial service jobs, you’ll most likely be up against other applicants who attended, say, Brown, Harvard, or a college that someone has actually heard of. You’d better be damned good at what you’re doing in order to succeed.

This school is horrible !!! I got into the education program. none of the professors had any experience teaching elementary and when we asked them questions they did not have an answer. The program was so focused on us passing the certifications they did not care or had time to teach us the foundametals of being an educator. When I spoke to the president of the education program and explained my concern he wasn’t helpful at all and was even dismissive. I eventually got fed up with the program and decided to withdraw. When I went back to the president of the education program for him to sign my withdrawal sheet, before signing he reminded me that I was not getting my money back from the school. HOW RUDE?!! Anyway I am glad that I decided not to further my education at this institution. It was the best decision I ever made!

Poor and unprofessional. They do not live up to contracts nor do they do anything for the alumni. I was a student here for two degrees and worked very hard and graduated highly. The original founder would be rolling in her grave with the results of today’s leadership
In an update, I was promised when I signed up for classes lifetime job placement and career services. Well I had never utilized the program before and when I did, I was treated cruelly and inhumanly. Everything I was promised was not provided. I only have one thing to say, if you get approached for this school, run, its a joke…

The building’s huge, but as far as the actual school, I am not a student here, but I do attend my english class accredited by the Art Institute of NYC here… It’s clean and roomy so I guess its cool :)

If anyone is interested, they have a CASAC program (alcoholic and substance abuse certificate). Its eight classes for 385 dollars. I would like to take this hopefully in the Fall.
