This was one of my favourite lunch spots when I used to work in the Economist building on 57th Street… I mean not for eating of course but this excellently curated gallery was always the perfect place to even just briefly trade in the New York midtown mayhem for some peace and quiet whilst getting to see some very impressive artworks. They have hosted some fantastic shows, but in particular Thomas Struth’s photography has left a strong impression on me– so much so that I went back 3 times to see this short exhibition taking others with me each time! Before this place was founded as a gallery Madame Marian was a publisher I believe and printed books by some of today’s most influential contemporary artists including John Baldessari, Dan Graham, Sol Lewitt, Roy Lichenstein, and Claes Oldenburg… Impressive resume– and they know what they’re doing with their art that’s for sure! Sadly only open Mon-Sat 10−6pm so I have found it harder to get back and see the recent shows… I will try harder…
