I went to Dr. Shahgoli to have a wisdom tooth extraction. The office staff was very nice and capable, and Dr. Shahgoli did an excellent job. He was extremely nice and efficient. The whole process was seamless.

Had a great experience here getting a molar taken out. Dr. Shahgoli was fantastic, quick, and efficient. Everyone in the office was super nice and helpful and I appreciated them all being very patient and helpful when ever I had questions.

Dr. Shahgoli is a wonderful doctor. He is very patient and has great bedside manner. The staff is great too. Thanks to Joan, Urena and everyone else who made the experience so much better! If I could do it again, I would definitely go here!

TLDR: This team is outstanding.
Dr. Shahgoli is quite honestly the most talented and exceptional oral surgeon in the city. He’s highly skilled at wisdom teeth extraction as well as TMJ treatments. Finding him out of the hundreds of oral surgeons out there was out of sheer luck, and I’ve continued to go to him and only him for any teeth/​jaw issues I may have for many years. In fact, even after I’ve moved to California, I still make a special trip back to New York JUST to have Dr. Shahgoli and his team do my standard TMJ treatments. His team, especially Joan, are very friendly and professional. They’re timely, attentive, and always make sure to call me to let me know my appointment is coming up.
If you’re having trouble figuring out who to go to for wisdom teeth extraction, look no further. Speedy, painless, no problems post-​op. At my drugged state post-​op, my friend who picked me up said I literally applauded to him and the team. Ridiculous, yet justly.
Second time around, I came back to have him consult with me on my TMJ problems. His treatments alleviated my painful jaw dislocation and terrible grinding/​clenching. After the first appointment and much reassurance by Dr. Shahgoli, both problems disappeared within two weeks. I’ve made it a routine investment to go to him for these treatments from now on (or until it’s no longer sustainable to fly cross-​country for these appointments). For now, they’re well aware of my travels and are very accommodating.

I had to have a tooth extracted because it was fractured. I was quite nervous, but this procedure went about as smoothly as I could have hoped. First, you are never kept waiting by this office. Your appointment is kept as scheduled. Second, Dr. Shahgoli explains everything clearly and simply and has a great bedside manner. Third, I had absolutely no pain or swelling, which I found astonishing. I would absolutely go back and would recommend the office to anyone.

My experience at this practice was awful.
My dentist sent me to Dr. Del Valle for a wisdom tooth extraction. I booked the appointment for a Wed. I went in and was seen quickly. Before the procedure started, the billing girl came into the office. She explained to me that it was this office’s policy that patients had to pay the full cost upfront and then be reimbursed by their insurance. That’s ridiculous. I’ve never had any healthcare provider ask for this before. I definitely did not have the ~$ 750 to pay for this and let her know. She told me she’d have to consult with the doctor.
She came back and said they could make an exception (eyeroll) and just charge me the copay and deductible. Which was still $ 230, which I did not have at the time. I asked if they could wait until payday (two days later) and just bill me (as most doctor’s offices do…) and she said again, she’d have to ask the doctor. She comes back and says they can wait until Friday, but that they would take my debit card info now, and I’d have to pay the full amount. WHAT? Why? Why can’t they wait for the insurance company to pay them like every other provider? I said, sorry, no way. I need money to buy presents. She said she’d have to consult with the doctor AGAIN, and FINALLY they agreed to only charge me the $ 230 copay and deductible on payday. So this dramatic back and forth led us to the obvious conclusion: charge me like any other doctor would. She said that they should have told me this on the phone when I booked, so this was «half their fault». How about… all your fault?
This is only the beginning.
I opted for laughing gas (which didn’t really do much). The doctor numbed me a few times with what I assume was Novocaine. They said my lip should feel fat and heavy. It never really felt like that. The side of my face was numb but my lip was still tingly. They gave me another shot and eventually began. If you’ve ever had a wisdom tooth out while conscious, you know it’s a pretty intense experience. Even though the area is numb, you still feel the pressure, pulling, cracking, drilling, and tearing. Throughout the procedure it would occasionally hurt. They even told me the tooth broke and they had to work at getting the roots out as they were stuck sideways in the gum. I would occasionally grunt in pain. I wasn’t crying or screaming by ANY means. At one point the doctor asked me «Are you in pain?» and I said «Not really, I’m not sure» because at that exact moment I wasn’t in pain per se but it was still extremely uncomfortable and I just wanted it over with. He continued to dig in, and I grunted a little more. He stopped and said «I’ll give you more numbing medicine, as long as your promise to stop making those noises!»
Excuse me?
I’ll promise to stop making those noises if you do a good job of numbing me and making me comfortable. I’ll also getting a large tooth ripped from my skull — I think a couple grunts are to be expected. I thought that was such a rude thing to say. Terrible bedside manner.
Finally the procedure was over and he put in a few stitches. The nurse gave me some instructions. I was meant to schedule a follow-​up but forgot as I walked out and no one stopped me.
That was Wednesday. Over the next few days the pain was pretty constant, but I was alternating between ibuprofen and Vicodin. On Sunday, I woke up in EXCRUCIATING PAIN. I have never felt worse pain in my life. I loaded myself up with drugs but it still ached. On Monday, same thing, pure agony. I looked online and it seemed I may have dry socket. I called the office and scheduled the follow-​up for Tuesday, and then asked if I could get a refill sooner than that as I was running out of Vicodin. She was meant to call me back but didn’t. I called later and she said I could come in real quick and get the prescription.
When I came in, she gave me the prescription, but I said «I just want to make sure this will be enough to carry me through the holidays because I’m going home on Wednesday and don’t want to be in pain.» She said «You’re seeing the doctor tomorrow. If there’s something wrong, he’ll treat it. We can’t just keep giving you drugs.» Ok lady. I’m not an addict or trying to start a drug ring. I just want to make sure I’m not stuck at home in pure agony because I’ve run out of Vicodin (which barely covers the pain.)
I came in Tues and the doctor asked me how I was. I said I was in a lot of pain and thought I might have dry socket. He took a quick look, poked the wound (which was extremely painful) and said I was fine and that it was healing. I asked if I would have enough medicine to carry me through the holidays and said I’d be fine and should transition to ibuprofen. …Ok?
Overall I’m just really annoyed with this office. If this ruins my holiday because they didn’t want to give me the additional 10 Vicodin to make sure I was really covered for some unknown reason, I’m going to be furious.
Definitely don’t recommend going here.

So it is day 5 after my surgery and I am scheduled for a post op check up in 2 days.
The consult:
The consultation was great, Dr Shahgoli answered all my questions and confirmed the same diagnosis presented by my dentist. I was super skeptical about taking out my 4 wisdom teeth and finally decided to do it. I did not know I would be charged for the consult but just keep this in mind. Thank goodness my insurance covered the panoramic x-​ray because that thing would have costed an arm and a leg. After talking to the Doc, I then spoke to Joan for billing. She told me the initial cost estimates, which were inaccurate since I had to call my insurance myself and double check the coverage. What they quoted me was double what I was supposed to pay but after calling and discussing it they realized that it was an error and reduced the estimate. We then scheduled the appointment.
Surgery day:
I almost canceled my appointment like everyday before my surgery how nervous I was reading all these reviews online about dry socket and the pain, but after a good lecture or two I decided to woman up and just get it over with. I ate or drank nothing from 10pm the night before. On the morning of the surgery MTA ruined my life and instead of being a half hour early like I intended to be, I was 10 – 15 mins late. The receptionist however was beyond gracious and very understanding. We asked for the scripts before hand so my brother went to pick them up while I would be in surgery. After signing my life away on some paperwork I then proceeded to chop off my arm and leg to pay for the surgery, kidding it did not cost as much as I expected it too. The post op apt was then scheduled and I was taken to the room where the deed was to be done! The surgical assistant placed the ekg to monitor my vitals and blood pressure arm band around me. Dr Shahgoli then came in and complimented my wonderful veins for IV sticking. My veins appreciated the compliment as they are so rarely complimented. Dr Shahgoli then did his famous line «here comes the good stuff» and the next thing I remember is slight consciousness for what i was later told was a tooth that was close to a nerve so I needed to be slightly awake to gauge my reaction to its removal. Had I not been slightly revived for that portion I would not have known the entire thing happened. I felt no pain when waking up just the annoying bleeding that i had to deal with for a full 24 hours after. I got stitches on atleast one area that i felt. The others did not have sutures.
After Surgery:
This part sucks! U will be constantly bleeding into your mouth for the next 24 hours and that ruins any appetite you might have. I survived on ensure and some coconut water. The baby food diet really really sucks! I miss real food and even though I am slowly increasing the things that I can eat I am a long way from eating anything crispy which I miss soooo bad! Im pretty much craving everything that I cannot eat. So yes it really sucks. On day 3 after my surgery I believe I dislodged the granulation tissue from my upper right quadrant due to some ill thought of vigorous saline rinsing. It looked like a tiny little ball with a pink tinge to it. I didnt have any pain but it worried me to no end. Hopefully it does not cause problems but i will find out at my post op how things are coming along.

I went to see Dr. Del Valle to get 3 wisdom teeth removed, one which grew in sideways and was impacted. I was very nervous but Dr. Del Valle and his staff put me right at ease. The office is very clean with modern décor which I appreciated and all of the stuff from the nurses to the receptionist were super friendly and answered all of my questions. The day I went to get my wisdom teeth out I opted for sedation so my husband went with me, and they were nice enough to give the prescriptions for pain medicine to him before my procedure started so that he could go while I was under. Obviously didn’t feel a thing during the extractions, and the pain after was very minimal. I also had minimal swelling. The only one that bothered me was the one that was sideways but the other ones didn’t even hurt at all. I highly recommend going to see Dr. Del Valle for any of your oral surgery needs.

I had all four of my wisdom teeth taken out by Dr. Del Valle. 2 weeks later, I got an infection on my bottom right side (apparently this happens to 5−10% of people.) I called the office as my face was swelling up on a weekend. Dr. Del Valle called me back right away and called in a prescription for antibiotics. I saw Dr. Shahgoli the following Monday and he took care of the infection. He takes his time to explain what is going on and makes sure you are comfortable in the process. The staff are very nice & office is very clean. I definitely recommend this place.

My dentist recommended that I see Dr. Del Valle for trigeminal neuralgia (facial shocks). When I called the office to make the appointment I was specific as to my reason for seeing Dr. Del Valle. He was very nice when we met and listened to my symptoms. He never touched me, spent less then 10 minutes with me and then tells me there’s nothing he can do, no medication prescription just a recommendation to see someone else. He then charges me $ 150 for the visit. After I had some time to think about this I called the office to ask why I was accepted as a patient if the doctor knew in advance he wouldn’t be able to help me. The office manager agreed and said she would speak with the doctor. His response, I shouldn’t have been recommended to him in the first place. What kind of answer is that??? I would strongly encourage anyone planning on seeing the doctor to make sure he will be able to help you with your condition before you waste your money.

I went there for my wisdom tooth. I extract two teeth at once, a normal one and a complex one. This is place is really professional. The environment is good, nice people and the surgeon Dr Shahgoli operated so smoothly and swiftly. I’m quite shaky and nervous but he finishes everything in only 20min. I’ll recommend this place to anyone!

I had my wisdom teeth taken out in less than 15 minutes, although one of them was partially impacted. Dr. Shahgoli truly cares about his patients. He is extremely professional and very experienced. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Shahgoli is the man. I have been putting off getting my wisdom teeth removed for the longest time. I’m that girl, the one that cried when getting an IV for the first time. I’m a total baby and I was absolutely mortified. So mortified, my heart was racing at a nice 110 bpm when they first hooked me up, which then spiked to 130 bpm when Dr. Shahgoli walked into the room.
I was sick when I got all four of my wisdom teeth removed, too. I felt like death, I was sniffly, but didn’t want to postpone the operation. Dr. Shahgoli told me that for my safety, he would still put me under general anesthesia, but would shorten the duration a bit to make sure I was doing okay. This absolutely terrified me more, but I decided to go through with it. The man was great at putting in the IV, told me «Here comes the good stuff, have a nice nap» and I passed out immediately. I do remember being gently awoken when he was finishing up (the shorter duration that I agreed to), think I tried to talk to him, and was promptly told to stop talking before I drifted back to sleep.
Woke up, and everything was done! Got a ton of painkillers and anything else I could possibly need to maximize my comfort, but I didn’t need any of it! Not even the Tylenol! The man is seriously that good. He’s super friendly, straight to the point, and very, very, very, good at this.
I did get some swelling and some discomfort after the second day, but once again nothing that I needed medicine for. It’s been a week now, and everything seems to be healing nicely. No issues at all, and everyone in the office was so super great. The receptionists are amazing and honestly, I would do it all over again to get another break from work!
The office is also the most BEAUTIFUL office I have ever seen. Seriously. Beautiful.

My dentist is next door, Avenue Dental with Dr. Pantzis. They looked at my wisdom teeth and said I could use a consultation with Dr. Shahgoli to see if I could get it taken out.
Truthfully, I was quite scared of the procedure but Dr. Shahgoli seems very knowledgeable about the procedure and recommended for just 3 of the wisdom teeth to be extracted. The payment information was also made very clear to me.
The day of the procedure, I was very nervous but they explained the procedure well and (with the help of laughing gas) eased my mind about the extraction. I also want to say that I have had very pleasant experiences with the nurse or physician’s assistant. She is very professional and warm.
The extraction was done with surprising speed and precision. It is very clear that Dr Shahgoli has done this many, many times before. A quick search on google shows you that he is very experienced and very involved with the oral surgeon community with regard to the extraction procedure.
The pain was very minimal after the procedure and they scheduled a follow up right away and also gave me a reminder voicemail.
I do feel like they see a lot of patients so at times it seems that both the Dr and the staff are in a hurry to finish as many appointments as possible. However, this has not actually resulted in any issues — I just wish they would spend more time with each patient.

To echo the comments of everyone else — GO HERE to get your wisdom teeth out! After a really unpleasant consult with another oral surgeon (Dr. Kim), I put off getting my teeth out for over a year, until my dentist told me I would be sorry if I didn’t do it right away and I was forced to go in. Dr. Shahgoli’s reception staff were very friendly and I booked the appointment ASAP with no conflicts, and they told me I didn’t even have to come in for a consult first (they accepted my MetLife insurance). They got xrays from my dentist and I didn’t have to do anything to coordinate this, which was great.
The most important thing for me was that I did NOT want general anesthesia (which the previous surgeon had refused me) and Dr. Shahgoli was happy to just give me local novocaine. The day of the surgery, he explained what my xrays looked like, what we were going to do, and what the (unlikely) complications might be, and asked if I had any questions. He was extremely confident which really put me at ease. Once the drugs had set in (he checked me and I needed a second set of injections to really numb me), he went straight to work. I really did not feel a drop of pain, and the entire surgery took under 10 minutes, including him stitching me up. Seriously, it took longer for the anesthesia to set in than it did to pull both my bottom teeth out; I was SO grateful I did not have general anesthesia for this. Everyone in his office was extremely friendly and helpful.
I scheduled a followup a week later and although Dr. Shahgoli was away, his partner Dr. Del Valle was a pleasure to see as well, and assured me there were no complications with my post-​op but that I should not hesitate to contact them if I ever have any concerns. I also don’t know why people are complaining about the facilities because the entire office seemed brand new and extremely clean to me. Would recommend in a heartbeat. I should also add that the entire procedure for the 2 teeth was only $ 580 (total price, before insurance subsidy) which I was quite pleasantly surprised about. I’m sure it gets more expensive with general anesthesia but I was thrilled to get my teeth pulled for so little.

I’ve had all four of my wisdom teeth removed at once a couple of years ago by Dr. Shagoli. I was recommended that if I wanted to be put under full anesthesia, Dr. Shagoli was the man to see.
I got to the office with my wife, and I was shown in upon arrival. Once I was seated, I was injected then I was masked. I was told to count backwards from 100.

Then I counted 96. But when I counted 96, I was told I’m all set. I was confused at first. I just sat down? How could I be done? But when I moved about my tongue, I felt that I no longer had my wisdom teeth. Without fully comprehending what has happened, I was helped out by my wife.
I bled a lot. I mean a LOT. Like a couple of handful of blood. I expected it, though, since I removed all four. Once the anesthesia wore off, I felt incredible amount of discomfort and pain, but overall, I didn’t get much swelling on both side of my jaws, and I was all good.
It took a couple of weeks before incisions made by wisdom teeth were sort of closed. It took another few months before they settled down, and about a half year before I couldn’t feel anything was there before.
Overall, I don’t remember anything in regards to the procedure, but I’m a happy customer and I would recommend anyone who needs their wisdom teeth removed to Dr. Shagoli :-)

Can’t believe I haven’t written a review of my wisdom tooth removal.
I was referred here by my dentist at Tribeca Dental Design. They took my Metlife Insurance, were easy enough to set up appointments. Receptionists were really nice.
The office is very dated, and a total 180 from the gleaming modern feel of Tribeca Dental Design, but you’re really here for the services, not décor. Most likely you’ll be knocked out so you won’t be seeing anything anyway.
I met with Dr. Shahgoli who is your typical no-​nonsense New Yorker. He’s Persian but looks straight out the Godfather lol. Even has the downturned mouth shrug stance perfected. He told me in 5 sentences what we were doing and that’s it. But this was all in a good way that was reassuring because it was apparent he had done this so many times that he knew was he doing. I was nervous (obviously — who isn’t) but he was so matter-​of-​fact and confident so I made the appointment.
Best part? Day of my appointment, I came in, got my drugs injected and woke up in 40 minutes. My fiancé hadn’t even found parking for our car by the time Dr. Shahgoli was done. Apparently, my wisdom teeth were partially out and were very easy, straight forward extractions, but it was a really well done procedure.
I had flare ups and some issues, but that was due to the usual extraction issues. No dry socket or anything serious, thank God. They were liberal with prescribing meds but I didn’t even need all of them.
I would definitely recommend coming here for oral surgery. It’s not the most modern office but everything is up to date and the doctors get the job done quickly, efficiently and safely.

Dr. Shahgoli took exceptionally good care of my wife before, during, and after a series of complex oral surgeries. Furthermore, he referred us to an excellent colleague who’s special skills were needed to complete her care. I couldn’t say enough about his practice, the staff, and their service… all outstanding.
My wife’s care was so good that I used him for my own care recently.

I had an appointment to get a surgical procedure and the week of Dr Shagoli just cancelled because it was a Friday. If it had been for a legitimate reason I would be okay but it obviously was because he wanted to take the day off. Given that I had to coordinate time off and also coordinate for my bf to take time off to pick me up from a procedure, it was extremely rude and upsetting. Obviously, they do not prioritize the health of their patients. Also, when I asked to get all my paperwork sent over, the receptionist never did. Of course I was warned by another doctor that they would do that.
This is what is wrong with the healthcare system!

Dr. Antonio del Valle is great. I had to have a couple of wisdom teeth removed and was somewhat nervous. Nobody likes going to the dentist (or oral surgeon for that matter), but Dr. del Valle’s compassionate demeanor helps make the situation better. Dr. del Valle explained the steps involved and made sure that I was at ease with the procedure.
During the procedure, everything went smoothly, and he even paused a couple of times to ask how I was doing.
His follow up call the next morning (on a Saturday!) was unexpected but quite welcome; it only helped to put me further at ease that I was in good hands.
