I was lured in by the gigantic «GRILLED CHEESE» sign and was not disappointed. It’s a charmingly small nook full of cheese. The cheddar grilled cheese was delicious; the melt was perfect and the bread stood up well to the press they used. The cheese: bread ratio was good and the sandwich was a good size for a solo lunch! I’ll definitely be coming by again.

I live a block away and used to like this place every day until yesterday when I received very poor and rude customer experience. I do not care if the guy who works there is having a bad day or not but this is not a way you can treat your customers. I asked 2 pieces of specific cheeses I like and was given attitude about my order, what I ordered and a new quarter pound minimum policy? This guy pretended he was already doing me a favor by giving me 2 pieces of cheese for 18usd. You know what !!! from now on I will just use frenchdirect not to have to deal with you.

Great cheese shop in Chelsea Market, located right across from the Filling Station. They have a rather small inventory of cheeses which means they hand pick each one. I’ve been coming here for many years and very rarely is there a cheese I try that isn’t amazing. My favorite cheese is Midnight Moon, which is made from goat milk and has a nutty/​caramel flavor that is incredible.
Lastly, they also make grilled cheese sandwiches. There’s actually a discount on them with a Unilocal Check-​In!

Tiny cheese spot in Chelsea Market with great cheeses and even better service. The shop is surprisingly calm despite the tourist buzz throughout the market. Each time I’ve bought cheese from here, the staff has been super helpful, and provided awesome recommendations. The staff provides you the opportunity to try any cheese you want, and they’ll modify their recommendations based on what you like. They also offer a host of honey, jams, crackers and meats to go along with your cheeses.

If you love cheese, or like cheese, or have any sort of feelings for cheese this should be your next stop.
The selection isn’t huge but it’s hand picked. The Cheese Masters are super knowledgeable and they WILL find the cheese for you.

There are also some tasty looking panini pressed sandwiches (20% off grilled cheese with a Unilocal check in) and all the accoutrements you could possibly need for a cheese party.

I work in the neighborhood and come here everyday (embarrassing to confess, but I do). when I first discovered Lucy’s Whey I tried their cheddar cheese and fig spread sandwich and that was it, I was hooked immediately. All their products are so delicious and very carefully selected and once you set foot in that place you will notice that immediately, the one thing that I wanted to mention in this review is the customer service, every single day I’m greeted with beautiful smiles and just a very pleasant attitude. My favorite person in there will have to be Natalie, she’s a very sweet person to deal with and always greets her customers with a smile. Must have the cheddar and fig spread sandwich.

All I had was the tiny bite with goat cheese and fig. I wish I would have gotten a whole warmed sandwich because if the cold one was OK, I can only imagine how amazing the grilled cheese ones are!

I crave the Prairie Breeze — its an artisanal grilled cheese sandwich with white cheddar and a fig spread. The wait is worth it (five minutes). I believe it won an award.
The shop is quaint and everything you expect and more from a cheese shop. Recommend if you’re in the neighborhood looking to try something new.

This is a good cheese shop — especially when you are trying to make your own cheeseplate. The unfortunate thing is that they only carry domestic cheeses and their selection is located mainly locally. There were a lot of other types of cheese that I wanted to try.
Besides that, this place is great! I was able to taste test a lot of cheese and bought 5 different types and paired it with wine at the hotel. It made the night enjoyable and it was painless selecting the cheese in the store.
If you love cheese like I do, visit and taste some cheese.

Having been to the UES and EH ones, dropped in to the longstanding Chesea Market outpost and admired the usual selection. Priced as you’d expect.

Up until today we loved Lucy’s Whey and it was a favorite stop in East Hampton. But the level of rudeness one employee demonstrated today at the Chelsea Market location has me questioning if I should continue doing business here.
I was going to purchase a pre-​made gruyère and ham sandwich but wanted to simply buy extra cheese to put in it.
The representative was receptive and began asking what additional cheese I wanted when her supervisor came over and literally without asking what was going on said «NO.» She didn’t offer a reason. She didn’t say I’m sorry our presses can’t handle additional cheese.
Just a stern NO!
So obviously I tried to alleviate what I assumed was the concern and said «oh we’re happy to pay for the extra cheese, I can even put it on after» and confoundedly she just exclaimed NO. Literally, just a no. It almost felt like she was tired of dealing with people (who could blame her) and this was like a high school dare someone gave her. Like just say no to the next customer and nothing else, almost like a prank. It was extremely odd. Even the first girl was looking at the supervisor strange. I just stood there unsure what to do. I guess no means no! Very odd. We obviously walked out.

A bit on the expensive side, but awesome grilled cheese. Check in on Unilocal for the 20% off deal if it’s still available!

Go here, eat the grilled cheese– repeat ad nauseam. This is the best grilled cheese in town

Had the grilled cheese here and absolutely loved it. They’re already pre made, but they throw it on the press as soon as you order. It’s super thin and crunchy just the way I like it.
I would have liked a lot more cheese, but I was satisfied with what I got. They have about 3 – 4 varieties and by the end of the day, they’re pretty much down to the basic grilled cheese. Give this place a try if you’re looking for a quick snack.

Pricey, but expected. Very helpful staff who work with you to figure out your tastes before selling you a cheese you’d be unhappy with. I went with a semi firm goat cheese with light blue marbling that was the perfect blend of goat and blue. Love it. 3 thin slices for $ 6.

I was never, I repeat, NEVER into grilled cheese until I had one from Lucy’s Whey. Their fig spread & grilled cheese is sooo addictive that I had to ask for their secret. The young man behind the counter was very helpful and taught me how to make my own grilled cheese at home. Here it goes…
1. Get quality sourdough bread (they purchase their from Amy’s Bread a few doors down, so I got mine there as well).
2. Spread the fig butter on the inside of the bread and put in sliced desired cheese of choice (my personal favorite right now is the Shelburne Farms farmhouse cheddar cheese).
3. Spread butter or olive oil on the outside of the bread & grill on a pan (I use Foreman grill personally).
4. Wait until the cheese is melted (it takes about 4 minutes on my Foreman grill), and voila, you get yourself world’s best grilled cheese, EVER!
Side note: The staff is very knowledgable with their cheese, and there are different samples out every time I go there. I take one star off because there is an older sales lady there can get a little pretentious at times… perhaps a reminder that the original store is at the Hampton$.

My friend always raves about this place, and surely enough, it lived up to the hype. Grilled cheese panini with fig spread, absolutely delightful for $ 8 (tax included). Eat it right way when it is fresh and hot. Yum!

I had not actively sought out cheese in two years plus when I happened to chance upon Lucy’s Whey while trawling through the Chelsea Market. Their little shoppe proved to be too much of a temptation, and as the saying goes, the only thing I cannot resist is temptation or something like that, so in I went for a rare purchase of some high end artisanal cheese.
When I decided to forgo most animal products (save our pet hens’ eggs and locally produced honey) I was most missing some stinky blue cheese. Truth be told it is one of my favorite floods ever. Lucy’s had an amazing selection of American blues, many of which I had not experienced before, so I relied on the very helpful cheese slinger for his expertise in choosing three cheeses for a light snack later on that evening.
I was able to sample each choice and I bypassed some in favor of trying many, to make up for lost time of course, and because I am pretty sure every option they have is fabulous.
In the end I settled on two cheeses from Echo Mountain and one delicious creamy Arabella with an edible rind. They proved to be quite the hit with The L. who has been deprived of them in home due to my kibosh on such things. But each cheese comes from a small American farm and while that does not assuage my guilt, I can reconcile such shortcomings as being ok every other blue moon or so… ;)))

Wish I would have grabbed one of their grilled cheeses after reading the rave reviews of them on here… Oh well, maybe next time.
I came in here looking for something unique and new to try. Went with an awesome one called Conundrum… super creamy and just a little bit smelly. Awesome. I also noticed that they carry Green Hill Dairy cheese, made all the way down in south Georgia, I visited the place a few years back and they make great cheese, glad to see it up here in NYC.
Staff was very nice, friendly and helpful.
