It’s true. They are the best. Even women who visit this salon are interesting and smart. Ashleigh did my highlights — very very talented hairdresser. hallelujah! The search for my favorite hairdresser in NYC is over.

It took me a while to find a salon in New York City that I loved, which would result in me constantly waiting until I was back in New Jersey to get a cut or a trim. I gave Lovemore & Do a shot in the dark and everytime I go, I leave in smiles! Lindsey and Ashley have both cut my hair and they’re amazing. They take into consideration what I want but also relay suggestions and feedback based on my hair type and face shape. Cute salon and very affordable based on how talented they all are. Great conversations too, they’re all so lovely, unique and down to earth. Highly suggest you book an appointment, smart to do so in advance, they book up fast!

I’ve been going to Lovemore and Do for the past four years for cut and color. Kelli is terrific but she’s moved on to another career. Lindsay’s been «doing» my hair since last winter and is an excellent stylist and colorist. It’s a terrific, cool, friendly place with professionals that really listen and care.

Kelli was wonderful, and kind, understanding and helpful when I decided I wanted it shorter and came back after my lob to turn it into more of a bob, free of charge. She also styled my hair for a dinner I was attending, free of charge, and was all around wonderful. The salon itself is fun, the women hilarious, the vibe cozy and the candy bountiful.

i finally found my salon… after many, many years of trial & too many hair errors, lovemore & do is the one. the space is small and cute and the ladies are super nice. i loved my experience with Sue. she listened to what i envisioned for my hair, and then gave me her honest opinion and advice, which is what i NEED because honestly, i don’t know anything about hair. i have ideas on what i want, but i’m not the best at conveying them. anyway, the vibe in here in great, it’s really comfortable and they play good music. oh, and there’s wine, or whiskey, whatever your preference. i left feeling phenomenal and absolutely in love with my hair. Sue also showed me how to style my hair with the least possible effort, which has worked perfectly. i love this salon so much! you will not be disappointed if you come here.

The ladies who work here are kind and smart and attentive. I would come back just for the awesome conversation… getting a great haircut on top of that was like icing on the cake! But seriously, the quality of service was incredible and my hair finally actually looks good. Love this place, love these women!

I’ve been coming to LM&D for about 2 years now and have always left a happy camper.
And I’m picky as shit.
Kelly’s ability to interpret my weak skills in communicating what I’m looking for are impressive– she always gets it right and certainly has an eye for what color/​length etc compliments best, along with the skills and techniques to achieve an end result that wins me compliments every time. seriously. And she’s super sweet.
The ambience of the salon is not pretentious, it’s adorable and the ladies who work there are just kind, easy-​going and genuinely care about what they do.
bottom line, the services are top, pricing is reasonable, and I always leave this salon feeling awesome and loving my hair for weeks.

I have been going to this salon for about 2 years now and I have always had a fantastic cut and color. Kelli listens to what you want, and makes your hair look nicer than you even expected. I always leave the salon feeling beautiful, relaxed, and with healthy hair… which I’m sure is how most people want to feel after a hair cut! I also have wavy/​curly hair, which Kelli is very experienced in cutting. Great salon, with a great team of stylists!

Sue is more of a sculptor than a hair cutter. She takes her time crafting the perfect cut that fits you. I’ve been going to Sue for years and I always recommend her and her salon to others. I’m constantly getting compliments on my hair. Sue recently did my wedding and I knew I was in good hands. it was magical.

I’ve been going here for over 10 years. I go to Lindsey and get cut & color done on my crazy curly blonde hair. She’s done my wedding & bff’s wedding. Sue is the up-​do queen; all the ladies here have repeat clients I see over and over again, its a great vibe and solid salon to cover everyday needs and special occasions.

I DO NOT give 5 stars often… but these girls just get it. I was looking for a very specific 1940’s style haircut and Lindsey hit it on the money. It is not nearly as expensive as most other places in NYC and so much better quality. The quality of the color turned out better than I was expecting and the haircut was a perfect 1940’s «femme fatale.» On a more personal note, these girls are hilarious, clever and quippy. Really makes it a great experience when not only does your hair look fantastic but you feel like you’re hanging out with girlfriends instead of a bitchy «hairstylist to the stars» type. Go there.

I’ve been going to Kelli for a while now, but have also seen Lindsay’s work and they are both wonderful. Men, women, short, long, cuts, color, highlights– they can do anything. Very well. They hear you out and give you their honest opinion. I trust Kelli to kindly suggest something else should I walk into the salon wanting to try a new trend that would look terrible on me. Thankfully that hasn’t happened yet– but I certainly trust her opinions.
Personally I came here looking for someone that could help me maintain long, healthy, platinum blond hair. Not exactly an easy task as my hair does not take well to bleach alternatives. Kelli has done a wonderful job and I always walked out of the salon feeling wonderful.
The salon itself is super vintage and adorable. It has so much more character than the typical modern NYC salons. Which I love.
Last but not least, the prices are great for Manhattan. I can actually afford to come here once a month and get my roots touched up.

I LOVE Lovemore and Do and am tragically sad that I no longer live in NY to have Lindsey do my hair. The salon’s vibe is great, very chill, and all the girls are really talented, easy to work with, and are no hassle when discussing what you want or trying to figure out if it’s realistic. Also, I never felt pressured to do anything I didn’t want to obligated to buy any of their products.
I’ve been a client since 2008 and have tried it all from platinum to low lights, pixie to growing out the pixie, and never had any regrets with their cuts or colors. Even had Sue do the best wedding hair I could have hoped for. Always fully satisfied. Prices are also competitive and the time spent there fun.

kelly is awesome. all the ladies are awesome… but kelly is my chick. got ombré highlights last week and i started getting compliments from the moment i walked out the door. beyond that, the atmosphere here is always so laid back, fun, and welcoming. amazing stylists, never a disappointment.

I’ve been to about 3 different hair stylists since moving to the NYC area (I live in Brooklyn).
I am sticking with Sue at Lovemore & do for a few reasons:
So far, Sue is the only hairstylist who’s actually listened to what I want, and, not only followed through with a beautiful cut (and blow out) but really took her time perfecting it.
I’d gladly pay more, the price can’t be beat! I tried a place a few blocks away and it was easily 10 bucks more for the cut.
I have long, thick, wavy/​curly hair that abides by no rules. I like it layered and chunky and full volume, and the way Sue cuts it just looks so great!
She’s also tons of fun to chat with and the place is cute to boot!

I’ve been going to Lovemore & Do for color and cuts since I moved to the East Village about 2 years ago and couldn’t be happier that I made the switch from my old salon. This place is like a well-​kept secret that I don’t want to spill, but I’ll do that for the Unilocal community, because y’all deserve to get the best cut and color in the neighborhood for the right price and these awesome ladies always deliver.
I consistently see Kelli, but I can speak to that fact that every time I’ve been in, I’ve seen Lindsey and Sue working and talking with customers that seem to be regulars — which I think says a lot about the loyalty of their clientele to the salon. Appointments are pretty easy to make (they’re open both weekend days) — and if you have to leave a message, one of the girls or their receptionist will return the call to make an appointment. The salon itself is small and very clean, with a retro, homey neighborhood feel. I really like that vibe — it feels like you’re being paid attention to and is totally non-​chaotic. I can’t stand three phones ringing, six blow dryers going and being offered one of five different alcoholic beverages. I’m here to relax, chat a bit or read and get my hair cut. When I want to drink I can bring my 21-​plus self to a bar and buy my own beer. I believe they just switched to a different product line — evo? — which left me with a nice blow-​out that lasted for days post my last appointment. I like that quality products are available, but never pushed — which is a pet peeve of mine when receiving any beauty service.
The first time I went to L&D, it was to fix an attempt at ombré hair color that was done at another salon in the area. I had basically been left with chunky blonde highlights, which were not at all what I had wanted. I researched lots of different spots in the area to call to inquire about corrective color and ultimately decided to try L&D. Kelli was confident that she could fix the botched job and more than exceeded my expectations at what could come of what I had given her to work with. She gave me exactly the ombré that I was looking for and a great haircut to go along with it. She’ll offer an opinion when asked for it or suggestion when called for, but has never gone against what I’ve specified I’d like my end result to be. If anything, she can understand what I’m looking for even if I haven’t been the clearest when attempting to explain. I receive compliments all the time on my color and the quality of my haircut — from friends and also other stylists — as recently as last week when I had my hair blown out for a friend’s wedding, which I always attest to Kelli’s skill.
Bottom line — from the staff, to the space, to the quality of the work and fair prices, this salon is downright awesome. I just wouldn’t feel comfortable going elsewhere, no matter where I moved in the city, because I know I’ll always get the best when I go to my girl Kelli and L&D!

Not the place for me.
I went here on a recommendation from a friend. Too bad she failed to mention, or I failed to ask, that the recommendation was only for Sue of Lindsay. But I doubt I’d be raving for anyone, even if I got a good cut, after my experience yesterday.
I got there at exactly 1 o’clock, my appointment time, which also seemed to be the time they opened. I had to wait. Not long, just a couple of minutes, but, I’m your first customer! It’s not like you’ve had time to get backed up. If I can be there on time, you should be able to take me on time, I mean, it is your fucking job!
Worst of all, Kelly cut my hair INCREDIBLY short. The first thing i said to her was, «Just clean it up.» I told her I last got it cut three or four months ago and to shape it up and tighten up the back. The only thing I said differently from when I usually get my hair cut is that I wanted to try it a little shorter in the front. The women cut off almost ALL my hair! She didn’t tell me she was going to cut that much off! And she started in the back, so I had no idea before it was too late. Maybe I didn’t explain what I wanted properly, but I have never had a stylist cut that much of my hair off without telling me. I’m talking 4 INCHES off my chin length hair!
Oh, and while she was washing my hair, she initiated a conversation with her coworker about whether or not she should sell a really expensive shirt she got to a friend who complimented her on it. What? Ugh. Talk about that when I’m not there.
Despite the terrible haircut, I had to endure the sound of shelving being put up. Yes, it was only some L brackets and boards, but still! There was a drill involved, and this was happening just a couple of feet away. Why on earth would you do this during business hours? It seemed as though this orchestra was led by Lindsey (?) and her husband was doing the drilling, and her (albeit cute) son was doing the whining. Completely unprofessional! And get a fucking level! I don’t need to hear you lamenting over whether the shelves are straight or not. They aren’t. Cause you didn’t use a fucking level. I love kids, I’m a teacher, but I don’t need to hear them whining and you trying to discipline them while I am getting my hair cut.
For $ 72 I expect a haircut I like or, at the very least, a relaxing experience. I feel ripped off.

So it’s been over a year now since I’ve been coming to Lovemore & Do which I think is a pretty lengthy amount of time to review a salon and a stylist. I normally don’t like leaving reviews for salons that I stick with because that just means more people will book appointments with your stylist which could potentially mean less time for me! But this one is such a gem in the neighborhood. I like many others here, found the salon through Unilocal and made an appointment.
I had just moved here from out of state and was really depressed to part with my stylist in Texas who had cut/​styled/​dyed my hair for 3+ years. I booked an appointment with Kelli and I knew immediately that she would be cutting my hair for a very long time.
My hair was in this weird «in between» stage where it wasn’t quite long enough or short and one side was growing out way longer than the other (I went from having a short hair cut with one side shaved and was in the process of growing it out). Kelli made my hair look and feel great, no more of that «in between» stage look but it looked «meant to be». I also really liked that she didn’t pressure me to purchase products or try to book hair color appointments earlier than needed. She was very honest and frank about what I needed and what I didn’t. Also, if you let Kelli know in advance, she will always squeeze in that free bang trim in between cuts.
The atmosphere at the salon is so nice — love the vintage, laid-​back décor. There are two stylists who are also really pleasant (Lindsey and Sue).
If you’re expecting to be coddled, babied and treated like the princess you aren’t (like some typical upper west side hair salon) this is NOT the place for you. But if you want to get an amazing haircut or color (I get both done) at a decent price with a quality stylist this is your jam! Kelli has always taken her time and has me feeling great walking out the door.
Tip: Make sure to book an appointment and book your next appointment while you’re there because spots are gone quick.

I found this salon through Unilocal and and am now really surprised by all the raving reviews.
I had an appointment with Kelly for a haircut and highlights at 6pm and was planning on going straight from work. However, I received a call at 5:30 telling me that she was running late and asked if I could come at 6:30 instead. I got there right at 6:30 and ended up having to wait over a half hour. I was pretty annoyed and tired, and I didn’t feel like Kelly was very apologetic that she was now over an hour late. I made this appointment over a month in advance because I had a special event over the weekend and adjusted my work schedule in order to make a 6pm appointment.
I have very, very thick hair that normally takes a long time to blow dry and I am never able to do it myself so I really look forward to getting it done. However, by the time my haircut and highlights were done it was now after 10pm and I was exhausted/​not feeling great. I ended up leaving before Kelly finished blow drying my hair. The haircuts and highlights ended up costing me $ 237.34 + tip and while my hair ended up pretty nicely colored and cut, it was nothing special. I definitely will not be going back.
I recommend Margaret and Marysia Salon instead. I got a better highlight and cut for only $ 100 and my appointment started right on time.
Do yourself and your hair a favor and go somewhere else.

For the first 15 years of my life, every haircut i ever had took place in a neighbor’s basement and consisted of a blunt, shoulder length cut with heavy, unflattering bangs.
Because of the hair trauma i endured as a child, I never thought I was capable of rocking «cute» hair — until i met Linsday at Lovemore. She’s been cutting my hair for 9 years now, and I’ve never once left unhappy. Her haircuts aren’t just good, they’re the kind of cuts that result in people stopping you on the street to compliment you. Linsday never, ever rushes you away. She takes the time to cut, stand back, cut some more, and make sure that the look is exactly what you want.
Lovemore is cute, friendly and fun in that hanging-​out-​with-​your-​girls kind of way. The vibe is relaxed and unhurried, the music is at a volume that still allows you to chat with your stylist, and the East Village setting means that afterwards, you and your new ‘do can saunter around the trendy ‘hood feeling cool is shit.
Pluuuuuuuuus, Lovemore is super affordable compared to other NYC salons.
A word of advice: They don’t have a receptionist (at least as far as I can tell!) so be prepared to leave a message and wait for them get back to you. Sometimes this takes a few days. It’s worth it!

I don’t give out 5-​star ratings often, but Lovemore + Do truly deserves this one.
I’ve had my hair cut with Sue several times, and I can honestly say she gives me the best haircuts I’ve ever gotten. She totally understands what I’m looking for and is able to give me that perfect mix of edgy/​cool/​sophisticated with flawless precision — hard to do with unruly wavy hair like mine!
The first time I came to see her, she gave me the haircut I’d asked for, and I thought we were done — but OH NO WE WERE NOT. She whipped out a straight razor and proceeded to effortlessly whisk away — injecting volume and life into my hair with every swipe. I picked my jaw up off the floor, went home and played in my mirror for the next hour. It was glorious.
Can you tell I think you should go? You should go.
