No complaints at ALL. Called and asked about antique table lamp repair. Turned out it only needed a new switch. Did the repair while I waited, and my lamp was ready before I got to the counter! Would definitely go again.

worst service ever. maybe the guy was having a bad day. but all he kept repeating (shouting) was «WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME??» — my question was «hey do you guys have these parts for my desk lamp?» (I showed them the exact parts I needed to wire up a duplicate lamp, they did not have matching ones) but instead of just saying that he kept screaming «GO HOME AND BRING YOUR LAMP BACK HERE SO I CAN SELL YOU SOMETHING»
so weird. so not what I was expecting from a shop like this especially since a friend had recommended them as a specialty light fixture shop in my neighborhood.
weird and temperamental staff, hope you go on a «good’ day. I had to walk out because the guy was screaming and throwing a fit and basically spitting on me. — really, very strange store. and really, weirdest experience.
go there only if you think you’re having a bad day — this guy will make you realiize that his life is worse…. watch him cry and scream and spit at you through his miserable state —- so weird.

Prices quite high. $ 21 for a candelabra socket LED bulb. ½ that at the 23rd St. Home Depot for the same thing. ¼ that at Ikea.
They sold me the demo version of an LED bulb (the $ 21 item mentioned above), since they were out of stock. When I got home, it fell apart as I was (gently) screwing it into the socket. Brought it back for a refund. Demonstrated that it clearly was broken. They did not disagree it was broken.
Their response: «No refunds. That’s our policy.»
OK, good to stand firm on a policy. But not a great way to win a customer.
That said, they seem to be knowledgeable about lamps and lighting. If you’re independently wealthy, then this is probably a fine store.

I’m baffled by the guy below who paid 18.00 for his lamp to be fixed quickly because I paid $ 50 for a quick fix. Six months later it was broken again. And for another lamp I paid $ 65 plus parts for a quick fix. Still, this place is cheaper than manufacturers. I just don’t understand lamp manufacturers these days – they sell you a $ 400 reading lamp and it comes with no warranty or instructions (e.g. Kovacs lamps). Anyway this place on 14th street fixes thing quickly and pretty cheaply but their pricing is very inconsistent!

Wide selection of lighting and hardware. Prices are quite reasonable too, considering how most places in the city completely rip you off for the sake of next-​door convenience.
I brought in an antique lamp that would no longer turn on. The experts there immediately diagnosed the issue to be a burnt dimmer. It cost me a $ 50 «service fee» plus the ~$ 30 dimmer replacement. Definitely expensive but I was able to negotiate the total price slightly. Not like I was able to do the job myself either.
My lamp was ready for pick up the same day. They cleaned it up and even realigned the posts. Very nice job… would recommend.

Artemide wanted $ 100 including shipping to their shop to fix my tolomeo desk lamp. Said it would take about 3 weeks. At lighting & beyond, $ 19.59. I brought in my lamp on my lunch hour. The gentleman told me to go have a cup of coffee and even called me on my cel when the lamp was ready. The subway ride over there took longer than the repair and the lamp works as new.
I have yet another broken Artemide lamp that I will bring to them as well. Aartemide’s price quote was $ 150. I’m guessing about $ 30 at lighting & beyond. EDIT — Actual cost $ 35 – INCLUDING A NEW LIGHT BULB.

I went to them to repair a lamp, which they fixed easily and quickly. The two things that needed to be done, however, were not complicated, so my experience with them is fairly limited.

Fantastic service and great value. I brought in my two Italian designer art lamps on Saturday afternoon and I had a call back within 2 hours on estimate to fix them.
They were ready for pick up on Sunday. It was Pouring rain abut the staff wrapped them up perfectly and helped me to bring to my car. Aside for great repair service, they have great selection of lightbulbs also. This is like a canal street lighting store but so much closer and better. I will definitely use them again.

I would definitely go back.
I brought in 3 gorgeous lamps in that were about 30 years old and not working. They charged me $ 40 for each of the 2 desktop lamps, and $ 50 for the larger table lamp. The cost covered «rewiring» labor, and the parts (new cords, new sockets) were additional. They charged slightly more for the parts than what I’ve seen at hardware stores.
I brought the lamps in on a Sunday afternoon and they told me I could pick up anytime Wednesday. I stopped in after work on Wednesday and the lamps were ready. They tested them in front of me without my having to ask. They all worked, and I was on my way.
They did require that I pay upon dropoff (before the repair was done) so I did. Just remember to BRING YOUR RECEIPT back with you when you pick up to prove you paid. I did, and there was no problem, but when i was there picking up, another customer was having a disagreement with one of the clerks because he didn’t have his receipt. So – good to avoid that potential issue.

These people are dishonest. everything I bought from there broke down very quickly for no reason (no fall, no dropping it, nothing)
I suspect they sell ”repaired stuff” as new.
Every time I bought something I had to go back to get it fixed. Their products have a fraction of the life of what one would expect in my experience

Lamp repair work here is the best! Took an old broken brass lamp here on a Tuesday and Michael repaired it and rewired it to my specifications beautifully by Thursday. They also have a great selection of ceiling fixtures and more bulbs than you can imagine. plus there was a nice congenial attitude in the entire store. I will definitely return here again and again.

I stopped in and was told, «Sure we can fix your halogen lamp.» When I asked how much he told me, «$ 50.» That was fair for a $ 100 lamp that I was going to replace if were to cost more than $ 50 to fix.
The next day I brought in the 6′ lamp via shopping cart and was then told that it was a «$ 50 per hour service charge.» And $ 13 part plus tax.
I started to leave sensing a rip off when they said, «ok, we’ll do it for $ 50» as I was told originally.
I came to pick up the lamp the next day only to find that there was another charge for yet another part of $ 9.99. Thus, I paid $ 65.31 for a $ 100 lamp which I would not have had repaired in the first place if I had known that it would cost more than half its price to fix! BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE and they have lost a customer.

Horrible experience. Got a fan in the UK. Asked them what I needed to power it here. They sold me a $ 40 beast of a contraption to change the voltage. Got it home and the fan wouldn’t even plug into it. Brought it back unused the next day and they were unwilling to do a refund («store policy»). Which I would get if they either hadn’t sold me the wrong thing OR if I’d actually used the product, but it was exactly the same as the day before. Not an item where the packaging or anything else about the item was used. I guarantee you they are selling that thing saying it’s new right now. But they would only give me worthless store credit. And they are sold out of the thing I actually need but can’t get it in stock for «weeks or maybe months». Thanks for nothing. I feel like they stole $ 40+ dollars from me. I will certainly never come back and don’t suggest you try your luck with them either.

I brought a family lamp that has been in my family for decades here to be repaired. I was a little nervous transporting /​leaving such a valuable family object here, but everything was fine.
Service: the lamp is fixed and they seemed very knowledgeable about light fixtures. The lamp was repaired in a few days, so they have a quick turnaround time, too.
Price: a new switch and cord cost me about $ 70. Pricey, but the lamp is priceless so I’m happy to pay that to get it working again.
Overall, I’d bring more jobs here in the future.

Brought in a lamp that needed rewiring and new innards. The gentleman did an excellent job, even matching the little turn knob with one I had on the lamp. Plus, he showed me that the lamp was designed for three-​way lighting (had it for 30 years, never knew!).
Also bought a laser pointer for my cats — it gave off a weak light. They replaced the batteries, no charge, no fuss.
I gave a 4-​star rating rather than 5 stars only because I thought the labor charge a bit high. It was $ 50 for labor, plus retail price of parts. (Maybe that’s the standard rate in NYC?)
But I would go back there again and recommend it. The staffers were really nice and I feel it’s important to support local businesses.

Home Depot didn’t have any R-​type bulbs in stock so an associate there recommended I come here. They exactly had what I was looking for and my room is so much brighter now.
I told them I needed a 40-​watt bulb and they first suggested a 75-​watt halogen, which would’ve been a fire hazard since 40 was the recommended maximum. I settled for 3×40-watt incandescents at $ 3/​ea.
Very convenient for those living off the L, and saved me a trek to the UES to go to Just Bulbs.
