Made an appointment online — easy. I didn’t see a place to submit the forms online but I honestly didn’t look that hard. I did see a way to print the form but I didn’t do that.
Upon arrival, there were only two people working the front and a lot of customers there. They were good to greet me as I walked in, but they were all very overworked and helping multiple people at once and answering phones. This wasn’t just when I walked in either like it was a fluke busy time, it happened the entire time.
One page to fill out was simple. I don’t have insurance so I didn’t want to overpay and get things done that were unnecessary. I was happy w the price I paid (with AAA discount) — less than $ 150 for eye exam for glasses and contact lens fitting, as well as the new test that replaces dilation (dilation was cheaper but I hate having it done).
Wait time to get started wasn’t too bad. The doctor was nice enough. They don’t have my brand of contacts there so she tried to tell me to try another. I politely declined since last time I switched I had a hard time. She wasn’t pushy about it. She was honest about costs of contacts too when asking her opinion.
The main issue for the two star rating is the service at the front. The staff was all nice — that’s not the issue. It was that every time I asked someone for something, it got interrupted multiple times by a phone call or two or to help someone else. While checking in, she answered the phone at least twice and spent 5 minutes making someone an appointment (while I was the one standing in front of her) and to check to see if someone’s order was there. There wasn’t apology to me for this nor was there any comment to the person on the phone to please hold. It happened again after my exam while I was getting my glasses adjusted and looking for new ones. The guy helping me interrupted all of that AT LEAST 3 times to answer the phone. It’s clear to me that they focus on the phone calls more than the people in front of them. It makes no sense to me. They need more help with the volume they have. I was there midday on weekday… not exactly the busiest time. I can’t imagine what it’s like at peak times.
I’m not sure I’d buy glasses here. They were nice enough to give me copies of my prescriptions for contacts and glasses without me asking so I’ll be able to easily go anywhere else. I guess they do that since they know they can’t help you in the front end of the store since they are too busy.

I was really nervous about coming here after reading all of the negative reviews, but my glasses are broken and I tore my last contact lens last night so I desperately needed to schedule an exam and get a pair of trial contacts as soon as humanly possible. The service was quick, I waited maybe 5 minutes after filling my paperwork out before Javon did the preliminary exam. The exam itself was thorough, and I walked out with a pair of contacts that will hold me over until I order new ones. Everyone that I encountered was polite and professional. No one was rude to me.
My only complaint is that I did stress that I was there for a contact lens exam but the doctor did both a contact lens and glasses exam. As a result I ended up paying $ 158 rather than $ 79. I’d be angry but I showed up with my broken, barely usable glasses and when the doctor checked my vision with my glasses on we both realized that I can’t really see out of the left lens at all. Also, Cohen’s optical is holding my glasses prescription hostage as they do not want me to buy frames and lenses from anyone but them. At LensCrafters the doctor asked if I wanted to purchase glasses and/​or contacts, I said no and the woman who rang me up handed me a copy of my contacts and glasses prescriptions, no questions asked. No one at any point tried to pressure me into buying new glasses or contact lenses from or through them. They just handed me my prescriptions and wished me well which is entirely what I wanted from them.
And to be fair, they did ask me upfront if I wanted to do the retinal mapping, which I declined and they didn’t push. The doctor asked me if I wanted dilation and when I said no to that, she accepted my answer but she also explained to me that it’s important to do dilation once a year or failing that, once every two years to ensure that my eyes are healthy. I really appreciated that she told me what it is and why it’s important in a way that wasn’t condescending or in any way intended to make me feel wrong or bad about declining. Again, I said no and I wasn’t pushed.
Bottom line: they’re cheap, they’re quick, and they’re polite. My needs were met, including a need I did not want to acknowledge and I was fortunate that the doctor did.

This lens crafters is very unprofessional! First when I called to make my appointment the man who answered the phone told me they had an open slot the day of at 1:40pm, I got there at 1:40 and low and behold he had the days mistaken and he thought I was asking about a Friday, that was annoying because then I was forced to wait around in the city until around 4pm for the next appointment. I live I NJ but work in the city. Then I went to get my eyes checked almost a month ago to the day and still haven’t received my contact prescription due to their negligence. I was informed at the time of my appointment that they didn’t have the correct contact lenses for me and that they’d order them and it would take about a week. It has now been 3 weeks and I’m still without contacts. They gave me a trial of pair of contacts but the prescription is much higher than mine. I can tell because I have really bad vertigo and they give me migraines and make me dizzy. Smh HORRIBLE. After I finally get my prescription and the correct contacts I WILL NOT give them my business. It would probably take a year to finally get my order of contacts and my new glasses. This store gives lens crafters a bad name. The only reason I’m giving them two stars is because the manager is a nice lady. other than that this store sucks. Id definitely recommend trying a different location.

Dr Romaine called after my initial review and offered to help resolve the issue, which was very helpful and appreciated. Raising the rating to three stars as she did put a lot of personal effort into it.
Make sure to ask a lot of questions on pricing and insurance restrictions before embarking on this journey…

I don’t believe the attitude of the people at this store.

Steven the Opthalmologists was great! Super helpful and was able to rush order a pair of beautiful glasses for me in under 24 hours. Very helpful service, especially from Steven. Great job!

The worst service I have ever received. Been wearing glasses for over 20 years. LensCrafters is the mcDonalds of eye wear. Not one person in this store was competent. Not 1 !!!

An eye glass store that won’t service their product.
Yes, that’s right, my LensCrafter purhchased frame needed tightening, and the sales girl told me they don’t service glasses as they send out any and all repairs. When I told them Cohens does this as a courtesy, they pointed me at the Cohens down the block.
Another reason to avoid this establishment is their selection of frames is not on par with the competition.

I made an online appt for 12:20. at 1:10. I had still not been seen with NO explanation and NO apology.

There are so many bad reviews on this place, but I had a perfect experience here. They had a 30% off lenses and frames deal, so I purchased a pair. The sales rep was super helpful in helping me decide on which lenses to get and went through all of the different options. He took care of it promptly and then a week later the glasses were ready. And they have a guarantee on them. So I can’t complain about a thing.

The only reason I’m giving 4.5 instead of 5 is because its expensive. I scheduled an ONLINE appointment very quickly on their website. I went in on a Tuesday to get a comprehensive eye exam (total cost was about 175.00) for acuity testing, glaucoma pressure testing, retina photos (optional 39 dollars, unless you have chronic condition or complaints), and contact lens fitting (also optional was about 45.00). You can get just eye exam for less than 100 just make sure you don’t get retina photos unless indicated. I had my eye glasses made by that Thursday and I placed order for contact lenses that will be delivered within a week. I got sample pairs so I’m good to go for 2 weeks anyway. Everyone was great, the optometrists, the front desk was helpful in helping me find a good fit. There was no rudeness as most of the posters have said. I was amazed how technologically advanced everything is since my last eye exam 3 years ago. I felt like I truly had a comprehensive eye check up. The optometrists are young and smart (I’m a physician so I know about confident and up to date care takers). Give it a try. Make sure you have insurance though as it can be pricey. Obviously if you have custom made SUNGLASSES or astigmatism corrective lenses etc it will take longer! Duh. Maybe I’m just a laid back and patient person, or others just need to take a chill pill. But my experience was great. and I can see now!

I don’t know what alternate universe the ONE positive reviewer on here lives in, but this place is HORRIBLE.
I’ve been going to Lenscrafters since I was in the 7^th grade. After moving to New York, I needed a new location and this one was the most convenient to where I live. My initial experience with them was fine. I was offered no assistance in picking out my new frames, but they went through everything quickly once I did and my order was placed. 10 days later I got a call to pick them up. It was a miserable day out (they’re sunglasses), so needless to say I didn’t wear them home. They rushed me through the pickup, so I didn’t even notice that the frames were all scratched and chipping away. I called the minute I got home and noticed it and they told me to come in the next day. I get there and they tell me that they don’t have another pair in stock, so they’ll have to order it. It looked like they gave me a pair that someone else had taken home and returned. So it would be another 10 days to get the new frames.
2 weeks come and go with not even a phone call, but I’m a patient person. *I* call them and they say, «Oh sorry, it’s backordered. It’ll be another week at least.» Another two weeks come and go – now up to 4 weeks since I returned them — and no phone call. Being more generously patient than the normal person and much more than I should’ve been, I continue to wait. Now SIX WEEKS later, once again it’s up to me to call them. Same story… backordered, there’s no manager here today, it’ll be a little longer. Seriously? How long does it take to get a pair of frames in stock? I think they were just hoping to string me along long enough that it’d be past the 90 return period so I’d be stuck with them.
I had used the offer that you bring in an old pair and get $ 150 off the new pair. Yup, didn’t get those back OR get money back for them since it was «a donation.» So now I have NO sunglasses — and have spent virtually the entire summer without any — and I basically gave away a designer pair of sunglasses for free. Awesome.
I will never step foot in this place again and I will tell anyone who listens not to go there. They’re disorganized, unfriendly, and grade-​A liars and cheats.

I would not recommend this store. Poor customer service and lengthy delays on shipments. I ordered a set of frames and lenses some 6 weeks ago and I’m still waiting. And, very little sympathy or urgency from the staff. I’ve noticed others have been tricked into their 1 – 2 week delivery pitch… do not believe it! Unfortunately, I have a long standing relationship with Lenscrafters, based in other states, otherwise I would never go back to this store ever again.

Retail doesn’t pay well and it sure doesn’t pay enough to put up with the nasty people that walk in read Rebecca W’s other revues I think she needs to get laid and stop attacking people I LOVE SHARON she’s the only one that works in that store and puts up with the most horrible clientele in the world I wouldn’t last one day in this store I literally was being helped by SHARON trying on new frames that didn’t hurt my nose and fit my face some women stepped in front of me and demanded Sharon to help her while there were 3 other people working I had to tell the nasty woman to go find her own employee to assist her, I’ve bought 3 pairs of glasses from SHARON THE RED HEAD and there is no one I trust more. Also when I picked up my glasses some other crazy women started a scene in the store about not being helped and tried to interrupt Sharon giving me my receipt and scheduling my next appointment.

I waited 25 min to see Sharon, who apparently was the only person (out of 3) who could help me adjust my frames. She didn’t apologize for the wait (basic customer service skill) and then told me my frames didn’t need adjusting (fair assessment). Since I was purchasing glasses to replace a lost pair, I remembered that the first time I got them I was given samples of lens cleaner. So I asked for them and she said «oh yea we sell those». So I explained about getting the new pair. Then she searched for 10 seconds and asked someone «do we have any more?» A polite, well-​mannered employee, Adner, searched for the wipes until he found them while Sharon stood at the register doing nothing.
2 stars is for the bad service — I expect more if I’m paying $ 350 for a pair of glasses.
