this store is a rip off!

Went there on my lunch hour to replace my lenses. After waiting for 20 mins to see a rep, a got this young woman and explained I was already in the computer and on my lunch hour and needed my lenses replaced with my new prescription. So what does she do… every time some one walks in the door she leaves me to go help them. Finally after the second time she asked her co worker to go help me. He then gets up after 5 mins to go fix someone’s glasses. After 45 minutes of getting nothing done. I walked out. Went to Grand Central Optical at Grand Central and it was a dream. Goodbye Lenscrafters!

This a conveniently located, full service LensCrafters directly across from Grand Central Terminal. It can be busy during the week, but traffic is light on weekend mornings.
This isn’t the biggest or spifffiest LensCrafters, but it will do the job. Decent selection and they sometimes manage to get glasses done in an hour, though that isn’t always the case.
There is an independent optometrist, on site.

Everything was great until it was time to pay. I was quoted for a $ 40 exam the day prior but ended up paying $ 260… RIDICULOUS! The woman who called didn’t mention that i needed to pay for 1 year of contacts upfront -$ 108 and then I had to pay $ 79 for some fancy spherical evaluation. Not to mention i signed papers stating that my exam was not refundable & that i would have to pay the amount quoted by my insurance. Funny how they forgot to mention the additional $ 79 for my exam. I also signed papers stating i did not want any additional examinations completed. Once again, funny how i paid for them anyways!
I will never go back & I suggest you all do the same.

My first visit, I was given a pair of daily contacts to try and at the time was told that if I didn’t like them I could try on others before ordering and committing. When I came back for the contact prescription, indicating that I was going to stick with my current brand/​style, I was told that I would have to pay an additional $ 40 since it had been more than 3 months since my appointment. When I pointed out that 3 months has NOT yet passed, the ladies at the desk confirmed that indeed it had not… but that I still had to PAY another $ 40! Is there a 3-​month policy or not? What happened to the offer to try different brands/​styles? I don’t appreciate the shady «policy» and the lack of commitment to finding the right contacts for me. Just another office with money grabbing policies. I will not be back and will not be recommending this location.

Great service from the first guy I met… should have gotten his name but anyways I just walked in to get my frames adjusted since it was too tight! He took my frames, popped the lens out and began to heat the frames. While it was doing that, he was making conversation with me.
He popped the lens back in and had me try it. It was great and it’s definitely not as tight as before. This all happened in less than 5 minutes. What great customer service!

My experience here yesterday needs to be rewarded with 5 stars. Hands down.
First off, I lost my glasses in a cab while paying, apparently slipping out of my jeans. No, I didn’t get a receipt for the cab, hell, I’m on vacation. Oy, 8 hours before a Broadway play and I do internet development and w/​o those, I’m screwed, and I’m here for almost two weeks. I find LensCrafters and walk in the door at 2:15, get my prescription faxed from Kansas, pick out frames with the help of a really nice lady sales associate. At 5:45 I pick them up with pretty low expectations to be frank. But heck no. They promised them at 5:45, they were ready five minutes before that. Pair of Ray Bans, not unreasonably priced. Put them on… perfect. And this is for a guy fussy about my eyes and with a progressive bifocal. Quality as good or better than what I get at my pricey place back home that told me to expect low quality from them. WRONG.
And, hell, they look GREAT. I think so, and of course my girls thought so as well.
Oh, and did I mention the people working here are really nice, really attentive, and appear darn serious about their job?
Made our dinner reservation a few blocks away by 6:15 and enjoyed the play at 8:00. All is well. Without those glasses, the folks on stage would have been sort of a blur. Thanks LensCrafters. Giving you a look as my new provider when I get home.

Like other reviewers below I had a great experience with the optometrists here, but a terrible experience buying glasses. The optometrist was one of the best that I have had in my nearly 20 years of wearing glasses. But when I switched to the Lenscrafters store and asked to purchase new lenses for existing frames, the quoted price was over $ 280 for lenses only. I noticed that all of the lense options scratch protection, anti-​glare, featherweight, etc. were checked without my asking for them, so I asked for less expensive lenses. The lowest they could quote was $ 230. I have vision insurance and confirmed with my insurer that this store is in network and the cost should have been a $ 50 copay. I ended up buying elsewhere for under $ 50.

Large eyewear selection, as with most other LCs. Anything from Ralph Lauren, Coach, Burberry, Tiffany, Raybans, & plenty of name brand sunglasses too! Insurance taken as well as coupons you may receive in the mail from them. As it turns out, they had some televised sale going on when I came in that was cheaper than using my own insurance… crazy, right? But don’t get me started on America’s healthcare…
Conveniently located outside Grand Central Station. Quietly make your appointment online while your boss thinks you’re working diligently on his report due five minutes ago. Thorough enough eye doctors in the back (so long as its just for a prescription, I’ll put my trust in them for that alone) Glasses delivered the very next day (so long as they are not special ordered, like if you wanted a brown transition lens instead of the basic black). On-​the-​spot adjustments to fit your dome. Sweet.

Well, what can i said costumer service could be better, Dr. E. Abilevitz was really nice and helpfull, she answer my questions and guide to someone to chosee my new pair of glasses but the optometric is completly separated from the optical be aware of it.

I still like the selection of frames here and Dr. Kushner. However, the rest of the staff at the doctor’s office is mediocre at best. They have really good intentions and most are very nice and friendly, but they have no idea what they’re doing!
Even the first time I went here, it took so much patience on my part (and I don’t have much) to sit through the tests. The staff is either new or the equipment is new so it always takes 2 – 3 people to set up the machines, get the right shots, etc. Appts take at least one hour, sometimes close to two.
Oh and the other doctor, whom I shall not name, has an attitude problem so I definitely won’t be seeing him.

This place really helped me out of a tight spot. My opthamologist told me that I could not wear my contacts for 2 weeks. So I stumbled down to LensCrafters. After picking out a pair of really sweet Versace frames I was told it would take a week to fill my prescription due to an astigmatism in my right eye. They gave me a pair of loaners which were the Versace frames that I wanted. Less than a week later I received a call that my lenses were ready. I stopped by let them swap the lenses and I was on my way. This place gets two thumbs up. By the way the customer service was aweseome!

The eye doctor and the frames /​lens side of the shop are totally separate. The eye doctor is pretty straightforward but the frames side of the house have no interest other than getting the maximum number of dollars out of your pocket. My simple request was to get maximum coverage from my insurance (which has vision option) since I only use the glasses occasionally for driving. They simply would not give up on showing me expensive frames, insisting that’s what I should buy and so on. They are just sales people on commission. I would not recommend this place. Subsequently I discovered that COSTCO sells glasses. You get a great no-​nonsense service, and they include all the accessories like lens wiper and cleaner fluid free-​of-​charge. Lenscrafters didn’t even include my prescription, which I requested, let alone a cloth or anything. It was a real struggle to get a case off them.

Went here on Friday and again today because I’m in desperate need of a new pair of glasses. Both times no one asked if they could
(even though store was very quiet). The second time I found a pair I liked and asked an employee if she could help me price a pair of glasses with my prescription (super high and always expensive to thin the lens). She took the glasses and scrip and just said «This is a really high prescription, it’ll be at least $ 600.».. . and just stared at me, like «I know you ain’t got no $ 600, byatch». I asked her again to price the frames with the lenses and with my coupon (i’m sure fueling her disgust), but I was so put off by that point I just left. The search continues. Have been to other LensCrafters with decent service, though. This location just sucks.

I was hundreds of miles from home when my glasses broke! I’m almost blind without them, and didn’t want to squint and stumble my way around a strange city. So I headed to the nearest Lenscrafters. The customer service was good. I didn’t have a written prescription on me, but they had a machine that could read the prescription from my old glasses. The woman helping me had great taste in frames and suggested some really cool ones that fit my face. She also called my health insurance company, so I paid $ 80 for new glasses that would’ve cost me $ 330 otherwise. Thanks to Lenscrafters, I could appreciate Van Gogh’s brushstrokes at the Neue Galerie, Jeff Wall’s detailed lightboxes at MOMA, and the play Frost Nixon from the upper balcony — all this on the same day that I broke my glasses.
My only complaint (and it’s a big one) is that they advertise hour-​long service, but mine took more like two hours. One of the staff used superglue and tape to give my old pair a temporary fix. It worked long enough to last me through brunch with old college friends (who claimed not to notice my broken glasses until I told them!).
