Le Mino Salon

I followed Gabriella here from her last salon, Christiano Cora. I first found her through a friend’s referral last Spring, and am so happy with her cuts, and ESPECIALLY color! I had been coloring my own hair with professional products (roots, balayage) for a few years, but with my % of grey increasing, I wasn’t able to lift my dark brown hair anymore the same way, and was very unhappy with my too dark, flat color. which used to be really pretty! I needed a FULL color correct/​overhaul, which involved many steps. Before we began Gabriella carefully listened and understood my vision (I am an Artist, and VERY particular), and it came out better than I could have imagined! She recommended a new, lighter root touch up color that works so much better for my skin tone. She cleaned up my ends/​shaped my long layers back to the style I had before a few hairdressers cut them in ways which did not work for my hair texture.
Since then, I have seen her 2x, once for a trim and a few highlights to brighten around my face (LOVED it, again!), and more recently for the first time at Le Mino-​which is a cute little salon in a great location in the West Village. I was terrified to make a change for years, had long hair since High School (20+ years), and decided to go for a «Lob” — the long bob. That’s about 7» off the back, and about 4″ off the front! I was so nervous I actually got sick on the way there! Gabriella immediately calmed me down and I felt confident I would be happy with the results-​and again-​she knocked it out of the park! Also, my much lighter color, perfection! She’s excellent at placing the appropriate highlights to flatter the style, and the tones are so warm, and varied. I also did a one of their Japanese hair treatments (Milbon, Nigelle HY or Inphenome), I forget which. but it really changed my dry dull hair texture and they send you off with 4 treatments to take home.
Affordable (for NYC), and excellent, thank you Gabriella and Le Mino!

I came here as a hair model for Naoko. I showed her a picture of what I want and she explained to me that my hair type is different but she’ll do something similar.
The haircut was very meticulous and she was very careful at every step. Needless to say, there was a ton of attention to detail. The end result was fantastic and I was more than happy with my haircut. I came here several times and every time left with a fantastic result.
The salon is very clean, quiet, and the experience is an extremely relaxing one. I was treated very well and everyone was exceptionally nice.
I recommended my sister come in as a model as well and her result was unbelievable. This was the first salon to tell her the hairstyle she’s been getting doesn’t work with her hair type.
Overall, I think the staff here is professional and definitely know what they’re doing.

I went to le mino based on positive reviews because I needed to get my roots done before New Years, and my usual place was not open. Colonists have always told me that I have the perfect base color for highlights since my hair is light brown. The colorist, AKiko, seemed nice but she seemed like she wasn’t sure what she was doing. I asked her how long she had been coloring hair and she said 20 years so I thought I was safe. When she first took out the foil I was horrified, my hair looked orange, then she put toner on it and it turned lighter, it looked ok in the lights in the salon although much blonder then I wanted. When I got home and looked in the mirror in my bathroom I was horrified, the strands where actually white tinged with blue, it almost looked like I had gray hair. Needless to say I would NEVER go back.

People keep asking so I’ma keep saying: GO TO NIKI AT LE MINO. Or go to Mino. Or go to Akiko. Or just wander in and point to your hair and say «help,» because this is the spot. If Niki can make my chemically-​abused hair grow into perfect pink mermaid waves, she can do right by anyone. And I’ve seen her work her magic on like 5 of my friends with completely different styles, so I KNOW SHE IS A GENIUS. I feel like I’ve been here enough times that I can attest for everyone who works here as being so friendly and talented and wonderful and I want to hug them all. Especially Naoko.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, NIKI IS AWESOME!!! And this salon is the spot and the entire staff is so lovely and friendly. You should go and then you can send me a thank you fruit basket later. You’re welcome.

Nikki!!! I have been following her for years. She is excellent. Really listens to what you want, doesn’t push her own agenda and is sooo sweet. Highly recommend.

stopped in for a haircut and hoped that they would take a walk in. They did and lo and behold I got the owner Mino. He did a spectacular job on my hair. I have been going to Arrojo for the past year but when he opened the new salon in Williamsburg all of my favorite people left. Now that I have found Mino I could not be happier.

Came in as a model for Naoko. My haircuts are typically long layers– I came in with a curved shape for my length and angle layers.
She listened to what I wanted– just a touch up, length taken off, and some face framing layers. Added lots of shape and movement to my hair while still keeping it fairly simple. Naoko is very friendly and very inquisitive– she pays attention to detail and is very precise about her work.
As a model the haircut took about two hours and I’m well aware of this and have received several other model haircuts in the NYC area that take just as long if not longer. I walked out with a fantastic cut and blowout. Mino oversaw the entire cut and added in helping suggestions as needed.

NEVER, NEVER GO TO THIS SALON. I GOT THE WORST HAIRCUT OF MY LIFE. They were appallingly rude, as well. I gave Naoko the benefit of the doubt as she painstakingly went over each strand of my hair, but as time went on, I saw that she was COMPLETELY IGNORING what I had requested in our friendly pre-​interview. I get my hair done often and am very flexible and complimentary. This, however, was over the top. I ended up with hair all one length, except for the slight retouch on layers that had already been there when I walked in. I looked like I was ready for my first day of school: hair parted in the middle, all one length and so much lost on the overall length. I have a very important trip coming up and was very, very sad. The owner told me, in response to my dismay and my request that I get some movement in my hair, as I had asked for (and using a term that other hairstylists have frequently used with me): «You don’t have to come here again. In fact, you can leave right now.» Appalling. I didn’t deserve that. I think they know one way of doing things and that is it. PLEASE AVOID FOR YOUR OWN GOOD AND SANITY.

I was beyond upset coming out of this place last Friday! After having a 4:30 pm appointment and leaving close to 7:30 pm I was so upset to see that the color I wanted couldn’t even be seen! I came in here as a new client — now please be aware that I came to this salon after reading all of these Unilocal reviews. When I saw how great the service they had I figured I’d give it a shot. I came in wanting to do balayage, my assigned stylist said that since my hair looked damaged that I shouldn’t do that but rather highlights. Now, I initially told her I wanted a different look and something that will show as I was getting engagement photos done. She said that I will definitely see it. 3 hours later I saw NOTHING! I came home really upset almost on the verge to tears as my entire family and friends didnt even know that I had any color done. I even washed my hair to see if the color will show and nothing! The number one thing I told the stylist was that my hair is hard to color so she needed to be sure to use colors that will hold — she said she knows and that she will do a good job. Never again will I come here to do my hair! Never again! I dont know how they are with hair cuts but I guarantee that they are horrible with coloring! Not worth the money!

Always walk out of there feeling like a million bucks!
I like that it takes time, there is no rush… he could really focus and carefully design my cut! (I get long layers) Tommy is top notch! I highly recommend him as a stylist.
I have travelled to NYC just to see him since I moved to Dallas and then Seattle.
I will keep coming back! People literally stop and ask me on the streets where I got my haircut?! :) That’s a good sign, no?

Got a Bloomspot coupon for cut and amino treatment and went on a Saturday afternoon asking for an angled bob. The amino treatment took 20 minutes and later that day people definitely commented on how shiny my hair looked! My hairdresser Joseph then spent 2 hours on my hair cut getting it exactly how I wanted. He was meticulous about getting information from me to make sure he knew what I had in mind, letting me know what he was doing and why throughout the cut, and being really precise about perfecting the shape of the bob. Will definitely go back!

Booked «baliyage & cut» TWO MONTHS IN ADVANCE. in less than 24 hours they let me know that the colorist quit. Two weeks before my scheduled appointment. I would not be as pissed off if only I:
a) planned in advance
b) intended to that before I leave for vacation
c) anyone would care to let me know 2 weeks in advance.

. The deal included Balayage highlights, gloss, and blow dry. I also purchased a haircut separately. The salon is clean, quiet and calm. Everyone there is courteous and friendly.
My hair looks pretty good. I left feeling beautiful and could tell that Allyn (balayage highlights and gloss) and Naoka (haircut) really cared about how my hair came out. They each approached me with a calm, and inquisitive demeanor, asking me questions about what I wanted in my hair, my lifestyle, etc, trying to get a full picture of me in order to figure out what would work best for me. My hair can be tricky because I have had many different colors in it. Allyn was patient and honest about what she was thinking the direction my hair color would go and what would work best. When my hair was being stubborn and the red would not come out, Allyn applied multiple coats of gloss, until she got the highlights to come out a golden color, instead of a brassy copper/​orange. I was not charged extra for all the extra gloss she used. Love her for that!
While waiting with a pound of cotton and saran wrap on my head (balayage highlights), I looked around at the clientele. Each client that came in looked like they were upper-​class, but not snooty.
Heads up, there is a Dallas BBQ across the street from this location :-) I would definitely come back to lighten my hair (I trust Allyn knows what she is doing) and plan to eat some BBQ after my appointment!!!

Walked in with 2 photos of exactly what I wanted, walked out with a pretty boring haircut that looks nothing like the photos.
This is at least 50% my fault because even though I was clear on what I wanted, I accepted the stylist’s suggestions. I assumed maybe he knew better than I did, or that he was about to perform some hair magic for me. pretty sure he just simplified what I asked for and made me look 5 years older. I will not return.

The summer has not been kind to my processed hair. What started out as a rich auburn/​chocolate base with subtle blonde highlights had turned into an awkward ombré mess after way too much sun and not-​so-​awesome upkeep on my part. Basically, my hair was black at the roots (my natural color), brownish in the middle, and brassy blond at the ends.
Cue Allyn at Le Mino. She took about 5 – 10 minutes to talk to me about the color I wanted, and she was super patient while I talked myself in circles. Absolutely no condescension or attitude on her part despite the fact that it was painfully obvious that I had no idea what I was talking about. She then gave me her ideas on what she thought would look best and broke it down step by step. She never tried to push additional services or products. I had originally anticipated spending a ton on re-​doing a single process and adding in highlights, but Allyn convinced me that it would be much cheaper and less upkeep to do some highlights, lowlights, and gloss.
The results are really nothing short of transformative. I’ve gotten a bunch of complements on it just in the last day or so, and I absolutely LOVE it (the hair color more so than the complements).
I will definitely keep coming back to see Allyn!

This was perhaps the best haircut I’ve received in New York City in over a decade. Naoka Hasegawa cut my hair and despite the fact that I was there with a BLOOMSPOT promotion ($ 55 dollars for a cut and nano treatment) she treated me as if I were a client paying full price for her care and expertise. I have a short bob and she transformed my cut and repaired the sloppy cut that I had received a month before which I was convinced was doomed to «grow out on it own». Excellent customer service, very relaxed space, professional stylists. I walked out of Le Mino feeling like a rockstar. Go with confidence that they will make sure you love the way you look. They know how to cut hair with a scissor, not a razor or flashy hand movements which are so popular at other salons where they just enjoy seeing your hair on the floor. Wow. Everyone noticed my haircut. Everyone.

I didn’t know anything about this salon until I purchased a Buy With Me deal. Since my first trip (about two weeks ago), I’ve already been back!
Allyn gave me a GREAT gloss. I had horrible, grown-​out blonde highlights that started about halfway down my head. My natural hair color, which is auburn-​y, is hard to reproduce. But she nailed the color and gave me a beautiful gloss that made the yucky old highlights disappear. I’m a redhead again!
I also got a haircut from Tommy — he was very sweet, very thorough, and did a great job. I think their services (even without a deal) are affordable, relative to what other salons in the area charge.
I will definitely be back again.

My second haircut since moving to New York. The first, at another establishment, was a complete disaster and made me look like I did back in the 6^th grade — one of the Hanson brothers. Thankfully, Tommy meticulously cut strand after strand, framing my face and giving me a haircut I love. Along the way, he would ask about my hair routine and offered up advice that did not involve any up-​selling, just useful information.
I went here based on a deal I bought through Refinery 29’s Reserve, but will be back regardless. So glad I found my salon in the city and it only took one bad haircut!

I got a deal for this place.
It felt very nice to be the only customer. I went there on Monday and it turns out to be their day for dealing with papers. But they very nicely took me.
My main request was to cut my hair so that I get rid of split ends. His work seemed very thorough. An hour and a half long — impressive. So I was very disappointed when back at home I saw that half the split ends were still there. I guess he should nave cut my hair shorter.
But generally it’s a very nice place.
