Lance Lappin learned his craft from some of the best hairdressers in the industry. In 1985 he moved Downtown NY and opened his own salon.

Raised in a noisy household of 7 siblings in the Bronx, Lance Lappin was still able to cultivate peace and beauty which he has developed into a creative business endeavor with his wife, Ivy. Since 1985, he has turned one chair beauty shop into a Mecca of beauty and relaxation in the heart of TriBeCa, New York’s hip and artistic neighborhood. This boutique hair salon is where fortunate customers get their hair cut and colored by someone who knows and understands their desire for a chic look. Lance is an artist. He is wise, warm and multidimensional. With his scissors he creates the most sophisticated haircuts that last and evolve beautifully over time.

HORRIBLE SERVICE. STAY AWAY! I made an appointment to get my hair done and once complete, the quality of work was rushed, sloppy and overpaid. I made several comments throughout the process to express my feelings about what I saw but they could not satisfy me with the end result. I do not recommend this location to anyone.

I love my cut. Regina did a fantastic job with what I asked. I wanted to go shorter but with my type of hair, it could have easily looked like a box on my head. The cut I got is easy to style and I love it.
I appreciate a stylist who LISTENS rather than doing some standard cut they give everyone and that can cater to what each client needs based on hair type, face shape and every day styling habits.
I would recommend this salon if you’ve got the bucks!
More than I thought I would pay for my cut and I had to wait for her to do another haircut (a child) even though I had made an appointment.

Great place. Been coming here for years. Kio has been doing my do. Shampoo girls rock the hell out of my scalp. I always feel great when I leave here. The entire staff is friendly and says hello when you cross their path. I’ve recommended this place to all my friends who are looking for a solid salon. Keep up the work guys.

Love this place — the receptionists are always very pleasant and helpful and Nicole is fantastic, both with my haircuts and extensions. I have naturally curly hair so it’s hard to find a stylist that really knows how to manage the texture and nuances. So lucky to have found this gem!

I’ve never been more upset about my hair. I love… or should I say used to love my hair for many years and I had it down to my waist. Growing it out obviously took years so I didn’t want to get a lot of my length trimmed. I told my stylist to only «trim» my hair and keep as much length as possible. 3– 4 inches was hacked off and I hate the way it was cut. I ended up in the salon for 3 hours because he used the wrong toner and had to re-​tone my hair. Not to mention the $ 300 price tag. I left extremely upset and I will never go back again.

The owner is obnoxious. I had been getting my hair cut for awhile. then Dino cut my hair in a way where it looked as if I had a tail growing out after a month. I came in and asked them to tidy it up. they tidied it up, but then after the Owner gave me a very hard time saying that I should have scheduled a full cut, even though I was on a schedule getting it done every 3 – 4 months. They were unwilling to fix their mistake, and were incredibly rude about it to boot. They have their hit or miss days and that day was definitely a miss… not interested in paying to fix other people’s mistakes. I even went so far to have a friend fix it and show them the photos of before and after… I recommend Peter Louis Salon at 143 east 57th… much better at fixing other people’s mistakes and willing to go out of their way to care about their customers.

Very satisfied customer… I love my stylists and treatment at the salon. I moved here from CA a few years ago and my hair finally found a «new home»! I read some reviews online and made my first appointments with Sandra for highlights (balayage)and Marco for a haircut and have stayed with them ever since. They are both very competent and meticulous in their work. I have to also mention the wonderful treatment from Tau, the assistant that does a wonderful job washing and massaging after my highlights. From the initial visit they worked collaboratively to meet my very «nervous» needs. Not only do they produce fabulous results each and every time but they are authentic and warm which makes it a pleasure to spend my afternoons there. This is a quality salon and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking an excellent salon for all their needs. I cannot say enough positive things about my experience at the salon.

I haven’t had the same person cut my hair in my entire life but after my first visit to Lance Lappin, I knew I wanted stylist JV to have another go. I got back from my second haircut with him and I“m just as pleased as I was the first time around. I have felt like a knock out both times and on top of that, my hair grows out really well too. I plan on making Lance Lappin my regular go to place and JV my regular stylist.

My experience here (or more aptly my hair’s experience here) makes me Unilocal in pain. I was leaving for vacation and couldn’t get an appointment at my regular salon and decided Lance Lappin Salon looked good and it was right in my new neighborhood. I got balayage highlights and truly, the outcome was no different that when my girlfriends and I use to buy a little bleaching powder and hair solution at Sally’s Beauty Supply in college and paint some highlights on one another (or when my aunt, who went to school in the 80’s, does highlights on people and pulls them through a bleaching cap). Usually, I feel like a million bucks after leaving the salon, this time I felt like couch cushion change. I’m giving two stars instead of one because the salon got me in the next day for a fix session and Lance (the owner) happened to be there. He was very apologetic and offered a free deep conditioning session to make amends. Still, I doubt I’ll go back even for the free session. No matter how beautiful the space or gracious the owner, $ 219 + tip shouldn’t get you highlights that make you feel so low.

I went there to get a Brazilian Blowout and I was nervous because I wasn’t sure if that really was for me. I had a consultation and they answered all of my questions about predictions about how my hair would react after the treatment and I didn’t have to waitlong I got an appointment a couple days later. My stylist was Nicole and she was great, she answered all of my questions and recommended products based on my usual routine and my hair was fabulous, it was bouncy, soft, and shiny. I will definitely will be going there again, maybe to get a color.

I was having a boudoir photo shoot done with a nearby photographer and she sent me to Lance Lappin to get my hair and makeup done. From the minute I walked through the door, they were VERY friendly and accommodating. I was nervous, because I am not into makeup at all p and had previous experiences where the makeup artist usually puts on WAY too much for my squinty eyes. I also was apprehensive because I am African American and I wasn’t convinced this salon knew how to style my hair texture. Well, JV my stylist, was excellent. He blew out and straightened my hair just fine (he also joked with me about my apprehensions) and he did a great job on the makeup. He was cognizant of my small eyes and added just enough so the eye shadow wasn’t overpowering.
All in all I looked great for my shoot, I can’t wait till my pics are done so I can send it to them.

I came to Lance Lappin because I had a Gilt City coupon. Even though I had a coupon, I got GREAT service. In fact, when I booked my appointment and had to reschedule it, the receptionist was very pleasant. I was lucky enough to have Regina (who’s been there for ten years). I highly recommend her — she is relaxed and will answer any questions that you have. She offered me coffee/​tea, and she gave me great advice about what style would be good for my hair. She gave me a bob, and I love it! If you need a reasonably priced haircut with amazing service, go to Lance Lappin! Everyone is so friendly, and the relaxed vibe was great. Go!

The entire staff makes you feel at home… from the person at the front desk… to those who wash your hair… to the exquisite hairstylists. Lance is an authentic genius. He is an artist of the haircut, and knows what works for YOU. My wife and daughter are equally enthusiastic. My wife raves about Ivy’s hair coloring and says she is as much a genius in that realm as Lance is in cutting hair. My daughter recently moved to San Francisco but returns to NYC for haircuts.
Update 2015: Lance is still as wondrous as ever. Ivy took a few years off but is back again
