Krav Maga Experts

tl;dr Fantastic studio with effective workouts, great skilled instructors and friendly staff, I wish I had so much more time here!
I’m so so glad I’ve joined Krav Maga Experts. I usually go to this location for Wed Krav & Fit2Fight (conditioning), sometimes for Friday afternoon classes & to the UWS one for Sunday classes. All the instructors I’ve taken classes with (Raz, Tsahi, Carlos, and newer instructors like Tim and Elsa) are lovely! This location is now fully refurbished with a beautiful area — it occupies the entire 9^th floor, the elevator opens right into the training area, and they also have a small gym (with weights machines, pull up bars etc) open to all members, bathrooms, locker area. Trial lessons are $ 25 online. When you first join, you don’t need any equipment or anything, though if you stay for more than a few lessons, you need to wear a Krav Maga Experts shirt ($ 25 — everyone wears them), and depending on the instructor, usually need gloves, mouthguard and more rarely, shinguards. These can all be bought at the counter for a discounted members’ price, or you can buy your equipment on your own.
When I first joined through a 1 month groupon trial, I had only been for 1 Krav session in Singapore, and I was so confused and disoriented then that I couldn’t remember anything. I’m still the least fit and strong person in most of the classes, which I thought would make me uncomfortable, but I love it! It’s immediately apparent who the newcomers are (no Krav shirt), and the instructors and other members are always super friendly. You also get a little extra attention, like being asked to stand near the front for drills so they can help you, and the instructors also make sure to pair you with more experienced people so you can learn. I was concerned it would be awkward to spar with the tall, intimidatingly strong people decked in full gear, but everyone is encouraging without being soft. You also switch partners and get to work with multiple people each class. So definitely don’t worry if you’re thinking of trying it out for the first time.
The classes (usually 1 hour long) are also different all the time, and teach you a whole range of skills. In the short time I’ve taken classes here, I’ve learned: different types of deflecting kicks, punches, knife defense, rolls. I’ve never felt bored. «Krav –Level 1» splits up into 2 groups based on experience, while «Krav Maga» classes train together. «Fit2Fight» is conditioning-​based and aggression drills, and I love it! An incredible workout that leaves you spent and exhausted. The instructors remember names, and there’s a real sense of community here, especially when you’re a regular. I love how they both encourage and push you. (personally, I sometimes need the push. in the beginning I used to say sorry a lot instinctively when I miss and hit the person I’m sparring with, and generally wasn’t aggressive enough. i also needed it especially when I’m so worn out and keep telling myself I cannot possibly squeeze out another sit-​up and I might as well just rest a little… but with some shouted encouragement, I realize that I can!!)
It may just be my opinion but the Union Sq location seems a little bit more friendly to beginners to me, based only on the 2 months I’ve trained here. The UWS has heavy bags hanging from the ceilings all the time and padded columns (and usually incorporate them), while the Union Sq one doesn’t. Those training in the UWS location seem to wear more gear than Union Sq one like shin guards. Maybe it’s just the demographic? This may change though so don’t take my word for it!
Membership costs $ 169/​month, which seems like a lot, but I come here 2−3x a week (and for 2 consecutive lessons at least once a week) and I believe it’s worth the calibre of the instructors. I would absolutely continue training here if I ever come back to NY!

My girlfriend bought me a private training session and I had no idea what I was getting in to. I mentioned to her that I had an interest in it and that I wanted to develop a more active lifestyle for myself.
The instructors were very welcoming they are very professional and great at what they do, but, most importantly, you can tell that they really care about you, your experience and your safety. They teach every class on a level that I could handle and built upon that.
Krav isn’t a martial art, it’s much more practical and relevant. You learn to defend yourself in almost every scenario you can imagine (standing, sitting, laying, close/​far, inside out, weapons or fists). You learn how to position yourself strategically, minimize risk and target vulnerable spots to neutralize attackers.
I’ve been practicing Krav Maga for over a year and I haven’t felt better. I’m in better shape than I was in college and honestly feel more confident and alert while walking around in NYC.
I recommend it to everyone.

I love this place! It’s perfectly set up to train, has a new gym for weights and cardio, not to mention a bunch of classes to fit my crazy schedule. They have the best instructors and they really focus on you during class. I like the fact that they have classes for yoga and BJJ as well… even tho I haven’t done a yoga class yet… but knowing it’s a option with my membership is great.
I’ve trained at their other locations as well but this is hands down my favorite location. Especially since they’re so accessible there. I actually find street parking over there when I go straight from work and that’s a huge plus. In the summer, they hold classes in Union Sq park sometimes… a lot of fun.
All in all… no complaints from me. If you want to train Krav, try this place.

I have been a member of Krav Maga Experts since May 2015 and I first want to say the instructors are excellent. They know how to clearly explain the techniques, they motivate you, and truly want to see you succeed. I attend the Union Square location and have been since May 2015. They have two other locations in the Upper East and Upper West side. Since May I have watch the Union square location go from renting space at a Yoga studio to now owning their current space.
When they moved to their current location 99 university place, it was small and needed to be renovated. They asked us to be patient as they under went this renovation and I guess some people may have attended during the construction phase. Despite the appearance they held excellent classes. Renovation has been completed and it is a complete 180 degree change from when they initially moved into the space. It is a state of the art martial arts studio and they offer a number of classes.
If you are looking for a practical way of defending yourself and your loved ones, want to get into some of the best conditioning of your life, make new friends, or just have fun. This is the place to be. It is good for all ages, men and woman. The Krav Maga Experts school has aided me personally in improving my health and my confidence. The skills you learn here may save your life and help get you out of danger situations.
1. This the real deal! Always were your gear up for class as you will definitely need it.
3. Be ready to work hard and put in 100%, and feel great at the end of each class.
4. They have a very easy and convenient way to sign up for classes through the internet so you
can design a training schedule to fit your daily schedule.
5. The professionalism of the staff and instructors is great.

The good part of this class and location: great instructor and fun class. I was very intimated when I saw some 6 ft tall guys wearing mouth guard in my class also, I totally didn’t know what I got myself into. However, the teacher was very helpful, and even though it wasn’t a small class (20+people), he was able to give enough attention to all of us during the interactive parts of the class, during which you practice with other students. After the class, I was sweating and slightly bruised (yes, just a little bruise), but was very very happy that I took it.
Ok here comes my complaint, the union square location was «under construction» when I went there and I don’t know how long it has been. There was no formal changing room for men and women, only a small bathroom with a sink. This practically ruled out all the night classes for me, because I need to change after work to come here. On top of that, when I took the weekend class, the floor was covered with mats and it was DIRTY. Then after my first class, they called and said they had to cancel the Saturday morning class because, again, it’s «under construction». So that was it.

A great place for women to learn krav maga. Great teachers who run a tight ship. The classes are a little big for personalized instruction, but it also creates a variety of people to practice with.

Let me start by saying that the staff is GREAT! I love them all.
Ok Here is the issue:
1. When I joined this place there was 4 location listed, hence I joined BUT their locations are mediocre at their very best. I have NEVER had an opportunity to go to Brooklyn one, Union sq is always «under construction» UWS the only decent one, but considering the other Krav Maga studios I have went to has nice showers (which you def need) and this one doesn’t, I am not happy with their locations. UES is a Jewish Temple for god’s sake! no padding in the floor nada!
2. CLASS Schedules! Here’s the deal, I would like to go to some classes during the day but their schedule is so scanty! and all over the place AND out of the handful of classes spread all over the place, there are some classes for «members only» like weapon defense and others! Just scheduling the time frames of these classes, which is not that many classes, gives me anxiety.
I guess I will be going back to my previous Krav Maga studio. I really wanted to give this one a shot considering their «multiple locations», but unfortunately I have to withdraw.
Tips before you join:
1. Take a studio tour
2. Don’t make long term commitment
3. CHECK the schedules online to see which one you are allowed to go to and have to wait in waitlist for.

This is an excellent self-​defense class. The trainers are great, and there is a good atmosphere among the people who go there. It’s physically demanding and intense, but with a good spirit.
