I had a short asymmetric bob earlier in the year, but during the process of growing out, its’ shape was nonexistent and a mess with all the layers. I was in dire need of a trim, but wasn’t sure if I really wanted to spend $ 45+ at a nice salon for just a trim. Living in Flushing, I like to try out new salons since there’s just so many, Kpop Studio is conveniently located on Roosevelt. I went with Unilocal reviews and asked for Kenny. They were able to take me right away without an appointment and the cut was $ 25. Kenny was attentive to my requests and gave his input. Although I did not have much done, he asked what I had plan to do with my hair in the future, to grow it out or not, etc. Overall, quick good priced trim, decent trim and outcome, happy customer. The only thing I have to comment though is because the cut was $ 25, you’re not receiving the luxury of a shoulder or head massage, the shampoo/conditioner they use is not special, they don’t put nice treatment in your hair, etc. But ultimately, you get what you pay for. Also, pay in cash! It’s not a cash only place I believe but most Flushing salons will charge more for transaction fees.

Came here today just for a hair cut. I went to so many different salons in the past and kept getting screwed up hair jobs every single time. I decided to see Leo since so many people on here insist he’s the best(I mean he does own the place after all). There was a 1 hour wait and even after an hour he was still busy(he’s POPULAR!), so I got cut by a female called«Shishika»(??) — she’s the one with the short purple hair. Can I just say… that this was the absolute BEST haircut that I have EVER had done in my entire life?! I’m turning 27 this year so believe me I’ve went through a lot of haircuts over the years — that’s telling you something! Seriously. Totally BLOWNAWAY! To sum it all up, I got my hair shampooed, cut, styled, and flat ironed — all for $ 25! I wasn’t even expecting all the bells and whistles, just needed a trim, but man… I am so happy for all the extras. My hair looks FANTASTIC! :D

After weeks of reading reviews on Unilocal,I finally made an appointment for my haircut. Everyone was friendly and nice. The guy who cut my hair(Chris?) was very knowledgeable. I got bangs for the first time and I received compliments by everyone. Only downside is parking… but I would definitely go back!

I. Hair I frequently come to this place and always get my hair done by Kenny. He is great especially in cutting. I have done magic straight perms, curls, highlights, and full coloring. My hair has always been complimented by people and they always ask which salon I go to. The only problem that I have with this salon is his assistants. He has assistants since he has a huge clientele that needs to be serviced. I know they are assistants for a reason… When his assistants gets too involved for more than 50% of the time, your hair can get damaged or lack quality. It doesn’t produce the same results as if Kenny did the whole job himself. He need to get better assistants. II. Prices & Service Prices are reasonable and affordable compared to other hair salons. Cash is the preferred method of payment. Service has been great and love the fact that the whole staff doesn’t try to force small talk. * This hair salon is shared with a small nail salon. The chemical odor can be strong if the place is packed with customers on both sides. Not recommended for pregnant women or if you get a headache easily. If you are pregnant, I would come when there is less people like in the morning as soon as the salon opens.

Nicole is so great and pays well attention to detail. I got my nails done for Christmas they lasted a month they could’ve lasted longer but you could see my cuticles so I decided to take it off. My nails grew so long. I’m planning to get them done for my birthday I don’t want to much radiation on my nails every month!

I would give this place 0 stars if I could. If you value your hair save yourself the tears and avoid this place at all costs. My sister went in for a regular trim and because she did not have«typically straight» Asian hair her they treated her as though she had leprosy. The employees are unbelievable UNPROFESSIONAL and they bickered back and forth on who would be burdened to cut her hair. She explained that she didn’t want her hair thinned and of course the hair dresser did not care nor did he listen. I will make sure that I let everyone I know how horrible this place is. It’s disgusting businesses like this one even exist.

I used to go to a Korean hair salon«Parkjun» in my country for 5 years. When I moved here, I searched for a Korean salon. And i found K-pop, so I gave it a shot. For a first timer, it was good. Definitely, I will go back to this salon. Nice and polite staff.

I wish I could tell you that I found this gem myself on Unilocal but it was actually recommended by family members. I started off with Leo because that is who my sister and mother go to but I eventually found out about Lena on Unilocal and she has been cutting my hair ever since. Ever since changing my hairstyle while in Asia I had headaches just thinking about finding a new stylist, thank god I found this place. Don’t get me wrong, Leo was great, but since he’s always really busy I saw good reviews for Lena on Unilocal so I thought I’d give her a try. After one cut, she didn’t need much explaining and she got right down to it. She actually changed my hairstyle a bit and made it look better. I think Lena is just as good as Leo if not better. She is really fast and efficient and really gets the lines down well which makes my hair look great. Overall this place has some top notch stylists for a heck of a price. The only thing that could use a bit of improvement is the hair washing, but I am used to being pampered in Asia so that’s not a really fair ask.

TLDR: whenever my mom visits me from Seattle, she makes it a point to get her hair cut and colored here. And I live all the way on the UES so it is a trek. Enough said. Oh how I love thee, let me count the ways. I just got my hair colored and cut here today-it is always so reliably great, meticulous, and very reasonably priced! My medium-length hair dye and cut was only $ 80 total! You can barely even get a solid haircut for that price on the UES… The hairdressers are Korean and most can speak both Korean and Mandarin Chinese. I was super impressed on my first visit when I found out. Anyways, come. You won’t regret it. Your hair looks great as soon as they finish. There’s no two/three-day fugue state wherein you leave the salon uneasy, feel weird and out-of-sorts for a couple hours, don’t know whether you hate it or like your new hair and mess with your weird bangs for a bit and pin them up after an hour of fussing and avoid them for the rest of the week.

Hidden gem way out in flushing. I’ve been coming here for years now. Kenny is so meticulous and an expert in his craft that I won’t go anywhere else since I finally discovered a great stylist here in New York. Before I would only go to Korea to get my hair done but now that I don’t visit as often I needed to find a better alternative out here. It took some time but I did. I actually wrote a review way back then when it was called fox hair studio but I think when they split up it didn’t carry over to Kenny’s new salon, Kpop star hair. The name throws me off all the time haha but I guess it’s going with the Kpop craze which isn’t bad. Anyway, TOTALLYRECOMMEND!

I really wanted to love this place like many of you experienced. Nice and attentive staffs and friendly and efficient service. I gave it a try for the Japanese Magic Straight Perm. I spent about 4 – 5 hours getting my hairs done. It seemed fine right after the treatment but next day when I washed my hair, I realized that they FRIED my hair in the back. I’m SO disappointed and I would NEVER come back to this salon.

Sure enough, my hair is not at all straightened, relaxed or de-frizzed. I don’t know what they put in my hair but it was not brazilian keratin treatment. I was scammed out of over $ 100. This place should be shut down for their bad business practices, poor customer service and lack of any skill in hair styling and treatment. Zero regard for customer satisfaction and results. I called in about the issue and I asked for a refund. I was told to come in so that they could see my hair in person and settle this. The owner, Leo Jin, was incredibly rude and unprofessional. I tried to speak calmly with him but he was argumentative, defensive and he refused to make it up to me in any way. Instead, he encouraged me to sue his business and contact the company that manufactures the treatment. I understand that no refunds are issued but there was no reason for them to ask me to come back to the salon, only to argue with me and harass me. My money was STOLEN by this place.

I highly recommend my favorite hair stylist Lena to my friends in the NYC. She is just professional, friendly and smart. My haircut is beautiful, silky, and clean as always. Even though it grows. How can I see you again since I moved to the California. Miss you Lena!

I used a groupon($ 25 for $ 50) for a manicure and it was well worth it. I made a same-day appointment, showed up about a half hour early and they took me immediately. I also showed the manicurist a photo of the nail design I wanted and she executed it perfectly! It was my first time getting a gel manicure, but will definitely go back because I am loving this design and the customer service. PS I spoke to my manicurist in English only and there were no communication problems at all, so don’t be intimidated!

Note: This is for manicure only. So I didn’t know that many manicure places in NYC that do designs on nails. I only went because I found a groupon and they had a deal. But I’m so glad I found this place! Joy was very patient and really took time in shaping my nails nicely and doing the base color. I haven’t been in that many places that had someone being really careful and taking the time; and I’ve always felt rushed when I had to choose the color, but not at this place. As for Nicole who did the designs– boy, is she fast and efficient. I’m really very picky and like something different at a reasonable price but I’m really happy with my newly done nails! I’ll definitely be back!

This place is ATROCIOUS. Came here based on the positive reviews on Unilocal.I was looking to dye my hair so I called first to ask about the price, then came in person and showed a stylist a picture of the color I wanted. Turns out it was Kenny, the guy everyone on Unilocal raves about. He said that with the dyes they had there was no way he could achieve that effect but if I wanted something similar, he could try and it would be $ 140. $ 140 for trying?! Are you kidding me? I wanted to give this place and Kenny a shot anyway so I asked him to cut my hair. He had other customers waiting so he said he only had enough time to cut my bangs. Fine. He leads me to a dirty chair… with hair EVERYWHERE on the chair and all over the floor. It was like the area around the seat hadn’t been cleaned all day(I came in around 5pm). He never asked me what style I preferred and just started cutting. I had to tell him I wanted it a little shorter and cleaned up so as to not to cover my eyes. After he finished, I was appalled at what I saw. My bangs were jagged, hair was cut at all different lengths– long here, short there, it was like a 5 year old child who was blind folded cut my hair(see picture). Although it was only 5 dollars for the bangs, it was so terrible, they should’ve paid me money for screwing up my hair so badly. I was so unsatisfied that I asked the girl at the counter to get me another stylist to fix it. The woman straightened it up a bit but it was pretty much hopeless by that point. She told me my only option would be to wait for it to grow out. One of the worse salons in Flushing and if I could give it 0 stars I would– this place is an absolute scam. I’m really not sure how this place got so many positive reviews… it’s over priced for no reason, unprofessional and dirty. I am never coming back here and highly advise anyone who is considering this place to avoid it like the plague!

Brazilian keratin treatment is a good value but not a great treatment. Haircut was the worst haircut EVER… read on… I got the brazilian keratin treatment and haircut for $ 100. The shampoo and condition they tell you to get to make the treatment last longer for $ 30 and I tipped 20% on the service so 20 $. All in all, for $ 150 this is a good deal. I paid in cash so I didn’t incur the extra credit card charge. The brazilian keratin treatment is good for its price. This is the treatment that you can’t wash out for 1 day, which is not as good as the one you can’t wash out for 3 days. My hair still looks slightly frizzy whereas the 3 day one I’ve gotten before completely took all the frizz out. I guess it takes less time to blow dry my hair but I can’t really tell as I never was the one to blow dry it before. The purpose of getting the brazilian for me is so that my hair could air dry straight and without frizz(it’s normally the slightly bit wavy) but it still has a few waves and some slight frizz. The person who did my hair was nice and did my hair carefully. The whole thing took about 1 to 1 ½ hours. Last time I did the brazilian keratin I had 2 people on my hair and it took about 3 hours. That one was way more effective but it also cost 3x as much. This was the worst haircut I’ve ever gotten. After the first person did the keratin treatment and blow dried my hair so it was ready for the haircut, the person who cut my hair literally took 5 – 8 min. top to cut it. He cut it dry which is no problem but the fact he spent less than 10 min. on it meant that he really didn’t give a crap. I’m not picky about haircuts. I usually only get my haircut 2−3x a year(I have very long hair) and I go to a different hair stylist each time based on price/groupons. I’ve been doing this since… my whole life… so when I say I’m not picky, I’m really not. However, this is the worst haircut I’ve ever gotten. It looked like I needed a haircut after I got the haircut, which sort of defeated the purpose of getting one in the first place because now my hair is significantly shorter(2 – 3 inches although I asked for a trim of at most 1 inch) with uneven hair everywhere. So for the keratin treatment, I would give it a 4 for the service and the value of it. However, I would not get it again. I would get the stronger keratin treatment even if you can’t wash it out for a few days longer. For the haircut, I would give the haircut a 1!!! It was so bad. I want to get a new haircut but can’t bring myself to spend money on a haircut when I just spent $ 150 here. Oh well, I tried it… onto the next place. I won’t be back again. My suggestion is if you want the treatment because it’s a really good value is get the treatment here but don’t get a haircut here unless you speak Korean or Chinese and can tell them exactly what you want(sadly, I’m a non Korean speaking Korean!).

Japanese Hair Straightening treatment + haircut package for $ 150. Tip: cash is preferred as if you pay with card, you’ll have to pay an extra fee. Overall, I had a really good experience here as the staff were friendly and professional. The staff here were good about making me feel comfortable by offering water and magazines while I waited for the(4 hour) treatment to finish. Leo was my stylist and he gave me a really nice layered cut. It has been two months since my straight perm and my hair still looks and feels good. The treatment is set to last for 9 – 12 months or until your hair grows out. I definitely recommend coming here for haircuts and the Japanese Straight perm.
