Dr. Vapnek is Board-Certified and has practiced in New York since 1993. In all but two years since 1998, New York magazine has named Dr. Vapnek one of New York Best Urologists. While Dr. Vapne practice includes all of the urological disorders found in most urology practices, his recognized areas of expertise are urinary incontinence, neuro-urology, urodynamics and female urology. The majority of his patients have problems with urinary incontinence or bladder control problems from neurological disorders such as spinal cord injury and multiple sclerosis. He received his BS from Yale University, summa cum laude and his MD at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. He completed his urology residency at the University of California, San Francisco, then pursued a Fellowship in Neurourology, Urodynamics and Reconstructive Urology at the University of California, Davis. In New York, Dr. Vapnek achieved the rank of Clinical Associate Professor at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. He also served as an attending physician at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in the Bronx, where he was responsible for the urological care of the spinal cord injury unit. Established in 2002.
Dr. Vapnek was on the academic faculty at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine and the Bronx Veterans Affairs Medical Center until he decided to set out on his own in 2002. While medicine is changing rapidly, Dr. Vapnek has been able to maintain his solo private practice in the same location and with essentially the same staff since the office opened in 2002.

Dr. Vapnek is a member of many professional societies and has served on many committees. He is currently a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Urological Association, the New York Section of the AUA, the American Paraplegia Society, the American Spinal Injury Association, the Society for Urodynamics and Female Urology, and the New York Academy of Medicine. He is also called upon frequently as a peer reviewer for academic literature in the areas of Spinal Cord Research, Neuro-urology and Urinary Incontinence.
