I’ve followed Jeffrey, wherever he went, for years. I love his salon and the amazing care he takes with each haircut. I used to cry when I got a haircut, but for the past 15 years I’ve smiled every time. He is a curly hair master!

I got a beautiful haircut two months ago from a tiny salon in VT and it was starting to get bushy. I decided I needed a trim and a friend thought she could help me. She did a fairly good job but there was a spot or two I wanted to clean up, and then I realized I could see the back to make sure what I had done blended. So I asked another housemate at 2am to make sure the back was even and she made a literal bald spot on the back of my head. And then another house mate tried to fix it and the long of it was that my hair had literally never looked worse and there was actually not anywhere more bad for it to go. And I called JBW at 11 this morning praying they had a spot open because I had seen so many good reviews here. They told me they would take me in an hour, which was PERFECT and Andreas made my literal dumpster hair into ART. I would never have picked the haircut he gave me for myself before the incident, but he wasn’t working with much, and he made me look SO GOOD and feel so confident and he was kind, and friendly, and funny, and a woman massaged my temples to ease away all my stress and I have now a completely new look that is edgy and fun and right in time for valentines day and I could not be happier at all. Also there was no judgement from him when I took off my hat apologetically showing him what he had to work with, and we laughed about it all as he made magic.

I love Stephen O’Rourke! He’s been my stylist for many years now (I followed him from his last salon to this one). I can say hands down he’s the best! I wouldn’t trust my hair to anyone else. He understands the look I’m going for and lets me know what’s possible. And if somethings is not possible due to the texture of my hair he has great suggestions on how to achieve a similar look. He’s also really knows color and has given me a wonderful new look. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, he genuinely care how his clients feel and will make sure I’m happy with my cut and color. I can’t recommend him enough!

This is a gem of a salon located near Little Italy on Lafayette Street. A little tricky to find the entrance at first, but then it’s just a few steps up to a cool, relaxed ambience. The people at the front desk are helpful and courteous, and make sure you’re well taken care of.
I’ve been seeing my stylist Stephen O’Rourke for years now (he used to be at Dellaria). Stephen looks at what my hair’s doing and gives me a cut with movement and unique style. He also works with me to make sure I’m satisfied.
If you’re looking for a cut that really works with your hair, isn’t hard to maintain, and is modern and sexy, Stephen at Jeffrey Ching is your guy.

I have a lot of hair, thick, curly and plenty to deal with. I only trust one person to deal with my locks, unfortunately she lives in LA and I’m here in NYC. Finding a hairstylist who can deal with this mane is difficult– thankfully I found JBW and Jeffrey.
I have long mid back length hair with curls and sometimes they work with me and sometimes they don’t. Wanting something short and cooling (its going to be a hot and humid summer) I came to Jeffrey. He taught me how to take care of my curls– what to do and not to do. Gave me a complementary treatment and follow up so I can go a little bit shorter come July.
I left the salon completely and utterly satisfied, turning heads and stopping cars (not the latter, but definitely got some compliments).

I followed Kyoko, my haidresser for years elsewhere. Beautiful place and pleasant staff.

I had my hair cut by Nella and she was wonderful! She was completely professional, while still being delightfully personable! I highly recommended this salon!

Ok, update. I get home totally happy, and spend some time looking at the cut, and realized that I wanted more of a change. I felt so silly for not realizing it while I was in the chair. Despite my shame for being a silly indecisive girl, I got up the courage to call the salon to see if they would let me come back in. When I called they were more than happy to help and got me in just a few hours after I called.
When I got there I was worried that Nella might be upset that I wasn’t completely satisfied with my cut. But she was so amazingly nice and made me feel so comfortable with my decision to go shorter. She was so sweet about taking the time to talk with me about what I wanted different and worked with me to find what would truly satisfy me. And she sure found it. I’m thrilled and I now feel silly for being worried and shameful of my wish for a shorter cut. Thank you Nella for making me feel comfortable and happy with my cut. If I could give you 6 stars I would!

I never write Unilocal reviews, but Anthony was THAT good so I must rave about him to the Unilocal community and those in search of new hairdressers. Anthony has been my hairdresser since about 2011 and I have followed him from salon to salon. I have thick hair and a lot of it and other hairdressers have had such a difficult time managing all the volume and understanding how my hair is going to grow out and how it works. Anthony was the complete opposite. Ever haircut I get from him is beautiful when I leave the salon and months and months later when it grows out. It totally justified the leap in cost from $ 25 haircuts to approximately $ 100 because now I can embrace all the volume my hair has instead of finding it a messy unmanageable blob. I always thought that my hair had no hope but Anthony made me feel different about it and made me realize the right haircut makes all the difference!
I have been going back and forth on cutting my hair short for two reasons: (1) I thought I have too much hair for a short bob and (2) I’ve had very long hair my whole life. For the past 2 years, I have been hesitant about short bobs, coming to Anthony with a few pictures seeing what he thought but ultimately just getting a trim to my long hair. When I finally decided to cut it short and get some color, Anthony just joined JBW. I had no idea what type of short bob I wanted or what kind of color would fit my style/​skin color so came in to the salon with just a few pictures and told Anthony to just go with it. Lo and behold, my bob was amazing and the highlights were just on point. All of my friends who were skeptical of me going short had so many compliments for my hairstyle. Thank you so much, Anthony. I can’t wait to see you soon so we can explore more opportunities with my short hair =)

I followed my favorite stylist Anna Ancin to a new location at this very hip and very comfortable new salon on Lafayette Street. The owners are super friendly and you get an incredible head massage and warm towel treatment with your hair wash. Everything about my experience here was fabulous.

Followed Andreas here and what a pleasure. It’s such a beautiful and relaxing experience from the moment you walk in.
It is a «spa like» retreat, you will feel like you are on vacation for an hour or two.

Jeffrey has been my hair guru for years. He’s coached, encouraged and styled me through thinning postpartum hair — giving me incredibly helpful tips and advice. No matter what the circumstances, he always knows just how to deal with my kinky locks. Plus, he and the entire team are incredibly friendly. Get in there while you can!

Followed my hairdresser here with no regrets. Andreas is a perfectionist. The salon is also perfection. Clean, organized, modern, attentive from the moment you step off the elevator. You are escorted to a room to change, they take your coat, offer you a beverage, honor your appointment to the second. Maya will give you a shampoo that will put you to sleep with zenful cranial massage. The sinks are fitted with a cushioned neck support to prevent neck kink from the porcelain edge. The chair reclines and you… zzzzz…I’m sorry, dozed off for a sec.
The bathroom has one of those schnazzy Japanese toilets that spritzes and air dries your bottom if you so decide… Oh, the haircut? Yeah, awesome and precise… There’s a reason why this place has perfect 5 star reviews. Take the 6 train to Canal and its a short 2 block walk. Keep in mind to make an appointment. Its a second floor business with little street traffic, so you can walk in, but you will wait if the staff has appointments, so just call them ahead of time.

Omg! This place is awesome. I have my haircut with Anthony. He listened to all my request, then he gave me all his suggestions. At the end, the final result was excellent. I love my hairdo. I received so much compliments. Anthony, thank you, thank you for making this girl so happy. Service is excellent, nice location between Soho and Chinatown. Place is ultra clean and staff provided great customer service. Highly recommended!!!

It’s been a couple of years since my prior review, during which I have tried other stylists in D.C. and on the West Coast, but Jeffrey is still hands down the *best* stylist I have ever experienced. He is the CURL WHISPERER. Jeffrey knows how to make anyone’s hair look phenomenal, really takes the time to understand what the client is striving for, and is such a good person, it’s truly a pleasure anytime I’ve gotten a Jeffrey cut. I recently got married, and Jeffrey was able to squeeze me in for an appointment before the wedding. My hair cut looked phenomenal for all of the wedding events — Thank you Jeffrey! Please open a salon in D.C.

Jeffrey is the best. I discovered him when I lived in New York and even though I’ve moved to DC I make sure to include a visit to him when I’m in town. I’ve tried other salons in NY and DC and I always end up back with Jeffrey. The time and the care he takes to make sure your curls look perfect is worth every penny. Not only that, his salon is beautiful and the staff are very friendly. I highly recommend!

I’ve wanted to give Jeffrey a glowing review for years, but I’m selfish and didn’t want to share him! Now that I’m leaving NYC, I pretty much have no excuse. Jeffrey’s been cutting my tight curls since his last location, and I followed him to his new, fabulous salon. I’ve been lucky to find some excellent curly hair stylists while in New York, but Jeffrey takes it to the next level. He is a true hair artist. The first time I saw him he pointed out that though the Mixed Chicks product I was using did wonders to eliminate my frizz, it was also weighing my curls down. He was right. He took me back to a simpler gel, and cut my hair shorter than it had been in a while (with my permission, of course.) It was adorable. And we’ve been growing my hair out ever since.
I’m super sad about leaving my friends and family when I move next week, but I’m DEVASTATED to leave Jeffrey!

Found this gem while searching on Unilocal for salons in the Soho. Swayed by all the positive reviews I decided to give it a shot.
I called to schedule an appt and was warmly helped and notified who my stylist would be: Raphael.
Upon arrival, Boni (I believe was her name) was very sweet and welcoming. I was given a robe and Raphael met me to begin my styling session (haircut). I brought a picture of what I wanted, he asked me several questions about my hair, etc. We proceeded to get my hair washed (bonus the chair is pretty much a flat bed = comfy) and then on to the haircut. I was beyond pleased with the results and will be going back in 4 weeks for my complimentary bang trim = bonus!
Overall really great experience and I’m looking forward to going back. Definitely great price and service for the area.

Overdue review– Jeffrey knows his stuff on every level. Coming from a mixed ethic background with lots of curl– well if you have curls you understand the fear. All it takes is a slightly off cut and you get to watch the triangle grow out :(
The first time I went to see Jeffrey I told him to just cut off as much as he needed to. He didn’t believe me until I told him my hair grows 2 – 3 times as fast as «normal». I think he cut about 8″ inches off and I would have let him cut more. My only instruction to him was to pls make sure I look good when I leave and that I can blow my hair straight when I need to. He said «no problem». He always says no problem lol He also said my hair itself was 99% undamaged and what products did I use to keep it so healthy. I watched him measure my hair before he cut into it with his comb and scissor. He never bashed my previous stylist just looked sadly at a few of my texturized curls. He picked up one piece and said «this will take 1.5 yrs to grow out» I just looked at him and said «no it won’t go to town».
He spent 1.5 hours on my hair– shaping and carving, deep conditioning and massaging my scalp. He and one of his staff members showed me 2 ways to style my hair before I left. They also dried my hair completely at no extra charge– I’ve noticed too many places letting clients leave with wet or damp hair unless they pay another $ 50+ My hair looked fabulous– I got stopped on Union Square by another stylist who was looking for a hair model. When she asked me when my last cut was I said 45 minutes ago. She said «You look great» and she was sincere. My mother was a hair model turned hair dresser. I was her hair model for years– it was a nice nostalgic moment for me.
There was no hard selling of products at JBW– he suggested 2 products to help with styling. He also knocked off 25 or 30% off the price because I was a new client of his. At every turn I was treated like royalty. He told me I only need 3 cuts a yr from him but I can come in for free for a 15 – 20 minute trim every 2 months to maintain the shape. I went in for my trim and he was shocked by all the growth and revised his original 1.5 yr estimate to 8 months. Jeffrey has been doing hair for over 20 yrs and he loves it. You can see it in everything he does and says. It’s really nice to be around.

Let me start by saying I travelled from DC to NY just to get my haircut here. For reference I have curly hair which is very fine and people usually don’t know what to do with it, and end up butchering it. So I came to see Jeff Ching and boy was this a 5* + experience! Jeffrey is PHENOMENAL, he’s an artist, a hair scientist and a visionary all at once. He spent almost 2 hours with me on my first hair cut/​styling here, and taught me SO MUCH.
The salon is on Lafayette, it’s a very clean black/​white palette, and is super cozy. Everybody is super friendly and relaxed here, it’s a down-​to-​earth vibe and I was seen by Jeffrey right on time!
He first showed me different angles of my hair to point out flaws in my previous cut (which I knew had issues but didn’t realize it was so bad) and oh boy: my hair in the back was lop-​sided and a whole chunk was missing in the middle-​back of my head, it was a crazy look! but seriously how often do we get to see the back of our hair, and what someone’s done to it.
This process was an amazingly revealing intro to what he was going to do to fix it, and what his vision was for future cuts. Jeff goes by what suits you, its not some cookie-​cutter experience for curly hair either (e.g Devachan) it’s uniquely about you, your facial structure, and accentuating your best features etc, its perfect!
As my dry cut was coming together I saw my head transform from the dreaded ‘triangle’ look, to balance, bounce, volume! it was incredible!
He taught me awesomely simple techniques to style it and get the best curls. I’ve never walked out looking this hot after a haircut, I usually have to go home and re-​style it after a cut. But this time I didn’t need to and went about my day looking great and held the style well into my night out. I got SO many compliments from friends and strangers, my hubby even said «That’s the best hair-​cut you’ve ever had» — wow! my hubs doesn’t throw compliments around easily, nor is he a man of many words. so that’s saying A LOT.
It’s not cheap (but not super pricey either) and it’s worth every last penny. Curly girls you’ll only be going twice or 3 times a year. I realized when I left that I under-​tipped a little (just calculating badly) and I feel super guilty about it, BUT I will come to Jeffrey for ALL my future hair journeys for as long as I live in this country.
This was seriously the most inspiring, educational, laid back experience I’ve ever had going to the salon. If you have curly hair, don’t even think twice about it and come and see this amazingly incredible hair magician. He also has clients all over the country and travels often to other cities, so you never know he might be in your neighborhood some time.

Jeffrey and his salon are absolutely amazing! All the reviews and this video are exactly right – not one of them is falsely promoting – this salon REALLY does make you feel at home, valued and taken care of. Jeffrey, more than any stylist I’ve had or could imagine, is extremely talented and has your interest foremost in mind. I’ve also had my hair colored there and can totally trust turning my look over to the team, which clearly works together seamlessly as a unit; Jeffrey has definitely surrounded himself with like-​minded, caring and talented individuals. I can’t even express my gratitude in words on this site– go and have an experience!
The space is also beautiful, airy, light, comfortable, as was said in previous reviews. Obvi he picked an amazing space :) I just want to share this with the world!
