History

Established in 2012.

Jaiya first opened it’s doors in Elmhurst Queens in 1978 and the Jaiya family has been serving authentic Thai cuisine in New York ever since. The Gramery location has been there for over 20 years and is established as one of the best Thai restaurants in the city. The new location on 2nd Ave. is serving the same style of cuisine in a beautiful, modern space on the Upper Eastside.

When we entered, one of the staff members was feeding a mini pond full of catfish right by the door. The ambiance is very cozy and romantic also. French music was playing, but I’m not sure if this is all the time. I loved it!
Great service from our waiter Salvadore. He seemed genuinely excited to talk with us. We ordered some sort of drink with Bangkok vodka, St Germaine, and refill. They lit it on fire so that was fun. (We like fire for this reason.) We also ordered the Tom yum soup with vegetable which is lit on fire. (everyone loved it.) Oh and more fire, because we wanted the mango fried ice cream. (it isn’t sorbet, but it’s very yummy ice cream.)
I eat a lot of Thai food, but I recommend this place!

This place is a great time, the food here is mouth waveringly good and for the city you get surprisingly good bang for your buck. I recommend to accompany any and every meal you get the thai iced tea and the volcano tom-​yum soup. Besides that I think you should just read the menu and select whatever tickles your fancy because it is all good.
This is honestly one of the more family friendly nice restaurants in the city that I would recommend, also very veggie friendly can substitute tofu in all of its entrees.

Food: Delicious, make sure you try the crab fried rice and the red snapper was great. Also try the mango sticky rice was on point and tastes just like the ones in Thailand.
Décor: Romantic and dim.
Service: Our waiter was attentive and service was great.
Be careful when you choosing your spice level because they can make it really spicy. Just go with mild to start with it.

I’ve been here a couple times and love the woodsy tables and romantic ambiance.
The recent visit we had a steak appetizer which was delicious, and I had duck curry which was wonderful.
My friend ordered a green curry dish which was not as great; I tasted it and it was watered down/​diluted. The server when I brought this up insisted that’s how it’s supposed to be — despite that my friend orders this dish often. He insisted a couple times, and I said I really don’t want to argue this; my friend didn’t like it and I found it watered down as well. They were preparing to close so rather than making another dish removed it from the bill. The duck curry dish portion was sizable we were able to share mine.
Thai iced tea was great.
When I’ve been here before I had the chicken pad Thai and chicken Satay– both very good.

Delicious food, good service and a welcome addition to the neighborhood. The portions are smaller than at the other Jaiya locations and certainly when compared to other Thai restaurants in general. I think the flavors here have been toned down a bit for our American palate which is a shame because the authentic thing is so amazing. This remains one of the better Thai options in the neighborhood though. The space is small and not really good for larger groups (6 or more) and the tables are cramped. It starts to get crowded around 7:30 so get there before. The prices are higher than similar restaurants, especially for the fish dishes, most of which are market price. Stick to the classics like Pad Thai, Seafood Fried rice, Basil chicken, beef salad and Chinese sausage salad and you’ll be good.

second time going and i must say i was impressed. Busy Saturday night, no reservations and was given a table even though they looked super busy in ten mins. Food was excellent and so was service. Will be back for sure.

What I tried: Drunken noodle and pad thai
Tip: Be cautious when specifying the spice level!
Story: Came here with a friend and had high expectations. The waiter asked how hot I wanted my drunken noodle and I said medium. I love spicy foods and thought medium was a safe order. I was MISTAKEN. The noodles were so hot, I could not eat them… and that’s saying something. My stomach was actually burning from the spice, which has never happened to me before. My friend had the pad thai and we found the same was true for her dish (and her stomach). Like I said, I really love spicy foods, so this was a first for me. I’ll probably tell anyone who will listen that I once won a hot sauce eating competition. Since I don’t see this mentioned in any other reviews, maybe they accidentally made ours hot instead of medium? I don’t know… 3 stars for the good service, clean and tasteful restaurant, and hope that our noodles were mistakenly made with the ghost pepper spice.

This is my fourth time eating from a Jaiya location in the city. We had the crab fried rice — which they actually use real crab: D. The fried rice this time around seemed a bit bland compared to the last time, I suggest adding the liquid red pepper sauce they have (the powder one is over-​kill). The waiter was attentive and prompt. We ordered the coconut shrimp which comes with four jumbo prawns and spicy mayo — it’s really good. Their desserts menu isn’t that great, very limited with mainly ice creams — nothing on the chocolate cake side :(Otherwise, it’s a great thai spot and I definitely recommend either locations. Both very tasty and my go-​to spot when in on the East side :)

Service: Decent. We were seated pretty quickly. The waiter acted a little strange toward us and didn’t seem to understand what we wanted.
Atmosphere: Not too great. The restaurant was beautifully decorated, but everything else combatted this. It was too loud, there was barely room for the waiters to move around and the restroom was situated in the center of the restaurant.
Food: Foul. Everything tasted the same. It all tasted like a mixed mush of sweet curry and other unidentifiable foods that my mouth just didn’t understand. There was no distinct differences between flavors and textures.
Would NOT recommend. A tourist spot, defintely.

This is the first time that we had been to the uptown branch of this venerable restaurant. The space is hip. The waitstaff were nice. Everything was really good. We started with curry puffs and excellent cold beef salad. The entrees were all really good. We had chicken in massaman curry, drunken noodles with beef and shrimp with chili and garlic. Thai iced coffee is a treat– it tastes like dessert. It still cracks me up that these Thai restaurants charge for rice.
It’s great to have a good Thai restaurant like this in the neighborhood.

One of the best places for cocktails on the upper east side. The staff is amazing when drinking at the bar you couldn’t ask for a better bar tender then «CHARLIE» he is not your average bar tender. THE PLACE TO BE

Three of us ordered in from Jaiya and the food was delicious.
We started with the crispy vegetable rolls. Yum.
I had the Jaiya special baked shrimp. It was very good, though there weren’t many shrimp.
My friend had the pepper salted prawns, and enjoyed them very much.
Not sure what my other friend had – one of their soups. It was really flavorful.
Good advice to order everything mild, even if you like it spicy. Their spicy is *super* spicy. Like too hot to eat and really enjoy. Not sure who likes that kind of heat, but…
Consider yourselves warned :)

I love you Jaiya! The hubby took me here for dinner and we both loved it.
Pig Pa Lo was delish — pork shoulder marinated in jaiya’s special spices for 10 hrs resulting in a rich, flavorful and tender deliciousness! Yum. The meat literally fell apart from the juicy, tenderness. The Curry Duck drenched in their creamy, spicy curry sauce was a sensation. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Service was wonderful. Cheers to the wait staff that gave us a free round Thai iced teas! Absolutely loved it here. Dimmed lights and candles makes the atmosphere so romantic.
Only con was the tight spacing between tables. Reservations are a must!

Seating can be limited and lead to increased wait times on weekends or Thursday/​Friday evenings, making reservations may help.
When you ask for it to be spicy, you will get Spicy, so dont ask if you dont have a high tolerance for it because it will ruin your meal for you.
Appetizer: coconut shrimp and shrimp rolls, great for sharing, great taste
Their pad thai and drunken man noodesl are delicious, have never been disappointed with it.
Thai fried rice and basil fried rice, can never go wrong with this either
Red chilli fish was divine, delicious and was a great meal to share.
Pricing is standard for NYC. Food quality and taste is really good, service is good, ambiance is nice, space is a little tight and can get loud, am a huge fan of Jaiya!

Jaiya is one of those places I’ve walked by a million times on the UES and never really thought to go in. But, I was in the mood to try a new asian place so we gave it a try.
I’d say that both of our dishes were solid, but nothing amazing. I love spicy food, so I asked for my Drunken Man noodle on the spicy side, and it was incredibly spicy! They were not messing around.
We got the dumplings to start and they were actually pretty good, but a bit too small. It’s also one of those unusual NYC restaurants that has a nice, fun atmosphere, but is very appropriate for children.
Overall, not a place I am desperate to return to, but I’d consider if I were right next door and craving Thai.

Shared some great dishes with others:
Chicken Pad Thai — really good flavor, lots of crunchy bean sprouts on the side
Chicken pineapple fried rice — yummy!
Green chicken curry — the best of the 3 in my opinion. We ordered it mild and it still had a kick to it.
The coconut rum drink was great and the service was good.
We did have to wait a bit for a table so I would recommend making reservations, especially on the weekends.
Only gripe is that we ordered 1 shrimp egg roll platter and 1 vegetarian egg roll platter for the table. When they came, I asked the waitress which was which and she confidently told me. I bit into what I thought was the vegetarian egg roll and immediately realized it was shrimp and had to spit it out. I don’t eat shrimp so this was high on the gross factor for me, but could have been even more severe in someone with allergies.
