Jaffe Ira DO

Dr. Jaffe delivered my baby boy via c –section this past June. I found him after a friend highly recommended him when I was 25 weeks pregnant and looking for a different doctor who would allow me to try for a VBAC. I had a terrible experience during my first delivery which resulted in a botched up c section where I was put under general anesthesia without being told and then separated from my baby for almost 2 days. I was pretty traumatized from the whole experience and wanted to deliver my 2^nd baby vaginally and as aware of what was going on as possible. I spoke with 3 different doctors (from different practices) before my friend told me about Dr. Jaffe. I was fortunate enough to have them accept me as a new patient, being that I was already so far along in my pregnancy.
Once I walked into Dr. Jaffe’s office I knew why my friend said such good things about him. His office was covered in thank you letters from past patients and pictures of him holding babies he had just delivered. I was comforted once I entered his office and got such a good feeling about him even before he walked into the office. I was right. Dr. Jaffe answered all my questions patiently and addressed all of my concerns. I told him about my horrible c-​section experience with my first child and told him that I wanted to have this baby vaginally. He also took me seriously when I told him I wanted to use hypnobirthing as a way of handling pain during labor. I expected him to laugh as did everyone else when I told them about my wanting to use hypnobirthing. I did all my research about how to avoid another c-​section and felt so prepared to have my baby vaginally.
My due date came and passed. I was almost 41 weeks when labor started. I was in labor for about 38 hours after being in the hospital under the care of other doctors before Dr. Jaffe’s hospital shift began. My blood pressure started to shoot up, the baby’s heart rate was fluctuating and I developed a fever of 102. Everything I feared was starting to happen. I spoke to Dr. Jaffe exhausted and crying and told him that I thought the best option for me and the baby was a c section. He was so sympathetic and understanding. He saw how disappointed I was about having to have another c section and comforted me by telling me how fortunate we are to live in a place where c sections are an option. He put everything in perspective for me and he was absolutely right. I was so focused on having my VBAC, I placed my and the baby’s wellbeing second. In times where everything is going wrong and nothing is going as planned you need someone as caring and knowledgeable as Dr. Jaffe. And when I did have my c-​section he prepared me well beforehand and made sure I was comfortable and aware of everything happening. This means so much to me when I was on the operating table feeling terrified and vulnerable. The whole procedure went smoothly and he delivered my beautiful baby boy. I will always be grateful to Dr. Jaffe and highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a doctor who his professional, knowledgeable and truly cares about his patients.

Dr. Jaffe delivered my son recently, after my wife started having contractions on a weekend. We were going to a different doctor in the group practice (Rosh Maternal Fetal Medicine) for prenatal visits, but he happened to be on call. And even as a medical doctor myself, I found that he did a spectacular job in delivering my boy.
We were admitted to NYU on a Saturday night (first pregnancy), not knowing really what to expect. The prenatal visits were absolutely uneventful, so it did catch us by surprise when, during active labor, the fetal heart rate dropped precipitously. Dr. Jaffe was on site by then (we were in communication by phone earlier in the evening when the contractions became regular and frequent), and during this stressful time when every doctor on the floor came to our room, he was remarkably calm and collected. He tried several different things, and when my wife changed her position the heart rate finally kicked back up again. From then on, it was smooth sailing, and his calm and professional manner continued all the way until our child was safely delivered into my wife’s arms. We found out at that point that the cause of the heart rate deceleration was likely due to the umbilical cord being wrapped around our child, and his expert knowledge and skills, I believe, made it possible to avoid an emergency c-​section that would have ensued if he did not make the heart rate go up again. My wife and I are very thankful for that (and so is our baby).
It was also reassuring that the nurses on the labor and delivery floor had such good things to say about him, and how they like to work with him because of his zen-​like mannerism. I can see how his demeanor could be mistaken as being too detached, but it was a huge asset when all the bells were literally going off during that critical time in labor. He kept things calm and lighthearted, and really seemed to enjoy his work as well as giving us sincere congratulations after it was all over. We are thrilled to have a healthy, happy infant in our home (despite the sleep deprivation), and we are so grateful that we had Dr. Jaffe delivering our child. We plan to go back to see him, should we be blessed with a second child in the future.
