Jacques Moritz, MD – Weill Cornell Medicine

I love Dr. Moritz. He’s an outstanding doctor. But his office staff since the move is the worst. They do not pick up the phone, do not return calls and do not address concerns. I’m looking for a new doctor, even though I really like him. Dealing with his office is too much.

This is not a review of the doctor, but rather my overall experience. I have no doubt that Dr. Moritz is a knowledgeable doctor, but my experience with the practice led me to cancel my follow-​up visit and schedule with another doctor. Firstly, I went in for a scheduled visit and had to wait over an hour to be seen. It’s a busy Manhattan medical office, I get it, but I’d prefer to not expect this. Maybe they are overbooked?
Secondly, my annual prescription was called in for less than a year, so I wrote a message through the patient portal to please write for the rest of the year. I got a message that this had been done, but I called my Pharmacy, and disturbingly, the new call-​in was for the wrong medicine. I wrote another message and the doctor then fixed it. But seriously, I shouldn’t have had to message at all to get my prescription right.
Thirdly, i went in for a preventative well exam and and somehow ended up with over $ 100 in copays (a problem I never had at any other office). According to my health insurance, apparently it’s because they coded my pap as non-​preventative? I emailed the office manager and she said she would work it out with the lab and to give her 10 days. She was polite and responsive via email. However, A few weeks later I called the lab because i received the bill from them (previously I just saw it on my EOB) and they told me they were never contacted from my doctors office on my behalf according to their notes. All I know is what I’m told, but I wasn’t happy. The lab then sent it to customer solutions and took care of it for me, which was super easy, but again, I shouldn’t have had to even deal with it.
Finally, the only complaint I had about my actual experience with the doctor is that he asked me why I would want to come in if I wasn’t trying to have a baby. Maybe he just meant «what brings you in today» but as a young working woman trying to break the glass ceiling in Manhattan, I took offense. Women go to doctors for preventative and diagnostic reasons other than procreation. He was nice and personable and again maybe didn’t mean it the way I interpreted it, but maybe I just prefer a doctor who is more sensitive to not even mistakenly imply that I’d only need to go to a Gyno if I’m trying to have a baby.

I took my wife to see the doctor. She had very complicated issues but he has helped her through everything!

Ok. He has a great personality… he can sometimes be a little too familiar and say something rude… happened on several occasions. He probably doesn’t even realize. Very knowledgeable and good at what he does. The office staff is pretty nice. I would suggest getting in the office very early or late when you don’t have anything else to do later. His office assistant Rosa is great. The one thing I can’t stand about the office is their inability to fit you in the schedule. He is always booked at least a month ahead. I like that you can email or text him if you have some concerns that need immediate attention. I wish more doctors would do that.
If you do reach out to him don’t do it for every little thing. I can imagine that would get annoying to him at some point and no one wants to lose that privilege :)

I wish all midwives and doctors can be like this. They are amazing at what they do. I had an incredible experience with my second baby. I delivered with Annie. I had an smooth and wonderful birth and am so grateful to her. She guided me every step of the way and I can’t say enough good things about my experience. They make you feel like they are your family and truly care about their patients. Annie is loving, kind and fully supportive in every way.

Wonderful doctor and midwives. All are friendly and extremely competent. Very comfortable and accommodating atmosphere at the office. I will never change providers unless I move out of the city.

I used Dr Moritz for my first baby. He was funny and very nice and quite helpful during the whole pregnancy. From a medical point of view I think he was a good Dr although he did not deliver my baby as we was off duty that night.
The problem with his practice is that you have to wait up to 3h to see him even when you are 9 months pregnant and utterly uncomfortable. In addition, I learned through a new friend that also used him for her pregnancies that he has his «favorites» and that she never had to wait as so many of us did and lost countless hours of our time. She simply had to email or text to let him now she was on her way and was taken right through a consultation. Outrageous! That shows a complete lack of respect.
I would NOT recommend his practice to anyone. I picked a very serious practice for me second baby and NEVER had to wait more that 30mn TOP with excellent and super efficient service.

Dr. Moritz literally saved my life when I got HELLP syndrome while pregnant with my son two years ago. It was Christmas day and night and he was responding to my emails immediately and insisted I come into the hospital. He ordered blood labs that showed I had HELLP even though I never had preeclampsia. Although it was very scary having to go under general anesthesia bc my platelets were too low for an epidural, he reassured me my baby would be fine and I felt safe on his operating table. There is no one more caring and knowledgeable than Dr. Moritz. I am a self professed know-​it-​all and there is no study or article I can bring to his attention that he hasn’t already heard of. I am currently pregnant again and I am confident I am in good hands with him. He has walked me through all possible scenarios should I get HELLP again and he has calmed all of my anxieties. His new office is gorgeous and very clean. I am so happy Rosa is still with him, as she is also amazing!

The problem with Dr. Moritz’s office is that he has way too many patients and his office staff is either overwhelmed and can’t handle the heavy patient load or just doesn’t care that much about the patients. I had been seeing him for a few years and he himself was very personable and was I believe a knowledge doctor. But the waits were ridiculous! I often waited 2 hours to be seen and once in the room would only be seen for 15 minutes. Also Ive had his staff cancel my appointments several times in a row and calling his office I would be on hold for 15 minutes or just hung up on. I was seeing him while I was pregnant and had the unfortunate experience of suffering a late term miscarriage (no fault of anyone). He and his office knew that this happened to me when I was admitted at another hospital but even after such a serious tragic event, I was not able to get a follow up appointment with him until 1 month after my miscarriage. I ended up being readmitted into another hospital closer to my job after suffering complications from the miscarriage. Even though I had confirmed my appointment with him that day and was rushed to the hospital shortly after therefore missing my appointment, no one called from the office to see why I had missed my appointment. Not that day, not ever. That was the last straw for me because I had nearly died and there was no follow up from his office. Which was extremely upsetting because they were aware of my recent miscarriage. Needless to say, I stopped seeing him. Moral to the story is that even if someone is said to be best doctor there is, if he has no follow through and has an office that doesn’t care enough about offering the best patient care, that doctor is just as bad as a sub par doctor.

Dr. Moritz is hands down the BEST doctor I’ve ever had and I couldn’t be more happy that I was under his care during my pregnancy. He is extremely easy to talk, genuinely cared about me and what I had to say and addressed all my concerns at each prenatal visit. His bedside manner gets an A++!!! I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, complication free with his on call midwife Anne Lawson. This was my first child and an awesome birth. There is nothing more this pregnant mama could have asked for. I will definitely return to him for any future pregnancies and WellCare visits. I’ve recommended him and the Midwives to all of my friends for prenatal and WellCare. His practice and staff are nothing short of AMAZING!

Here’s the thing.
I came to Dr. Moritz’s office at the recommendation of a dear friend of mine. I was coming off of a time of not having any health insurance, and a terrible experience with Planned Parenthood. Dr. Moritz was sent from heaven then. Until today, I had been his patient for about 7 years.
But in the last 2 years, I’ve had terrible experiences with his office. It’s apparent that Dr. Moritz has taken on WAY too many patients. In the last two years I’ve struggled to make appointments and had to make them MONTHS in advance. Getting ahold of his office is a nightmare. Being on hold for over half an hour, being hung up on multiple times. Every single time I have seen him I have waited for over an hour. Last year, they tried to cancel my yearly on the day of. I had to throw a fit in order to be seen. The appointment was fine, but I felt rushed. Then, they NEVER sent me my test results and I had to call multiple times to finally connect with someone that would help me. And they never apologized. I have also had multiple problems with them calling in prescriptions for me.
I don’t know why I didn’t find another Dr. then and there.
Fast forward to this week. I had an appointment next week, ⁹⁄₂₄. They called me Wednesday to confirm my insurance number because they had it written down wrong (?) Fine. But then today I get a message that they are canceling my appointment. I am furious.
I call back, and they tell me that Dr. Moritz is planning on opening his own practice and moving offices, so they must cancel my appointment. I was given absolutely NO notice about this in advance. Apparently, his new office is not set up yet, so I couldn’t have made a new appointment anytime soon.
I asked for my medical records to be sent to me immediately.
I had recommended Dr. Moritz to 2 of my friends over the years, both of whom couldn’t stand the way his office was run, and switched doctors. I don’t know why I didn’t follow suit sooner.
I think Dr. Moritz is a good doctor, but if he cares so much about his patients, why isn’t his office run in a way that values customer service? I deserve better care and treatment.
I’m switching to another doctor that a friend recommended to me in Soho. They were able to schedule an appointment with me for next week.

I was a patient of Dr Moritz during my pregnancy. He has wonderful bedside manners, is easy to talk to and has a great sense of humor. However, I didn’t appreciate that I always had to wait 2 hours to see him, especially because once he comes in the room the visit is so rushed. I once called ahead of my appointment to check on the wait time, told them I was with my toddler so wanted to try to come as close to the time I would be seen as possible (to avoid meltdowns) and was told to come in 15 min past my appointment time. I was seen 2:30 hours later. Awful attitude from his nurse, who refused to tell me how much longer I had to wait. She basically said I could keep on waiting (indefinitely) or go home.
I was really looking forward to delivering with him as his reviews are wonderful, but I should have asked ahead of time how likely that would be. Came to find out pretty late in the game that he attends deliveries only once per week and one weekend a month, so getting Dr Moritz is like winning the lottery. I ended up delivering with a different practitioner from his group and it was not a good experience unfortunately. I also found the hospital to be awful for births (but you can look at those reviews separately) so I wouldn’t return if I got pregnant again just to avoid Roosevelt.
Making appointments post csection was disappointing. I had to wait three weeks for my first check up and for my follow up they weren’t giving me availability until past three months, so I had to switch providers. It was IMPOSSIBLE to get anyone from his staff to send me my medical records. It took me two months when I finally emailed Dr Moritz about it.

There are no words to describe how great Dr Moritz is. I was lucky I had an uncomplicated pregnancy, all of my doctors visit was great. Dr Moritz made me feel comfortable in all of my visits, I also love his nurse Delsa. He is funny, kind & straightforward.
Even though Dr Lee who is in his practice delivered by baby, Dr Moritz came to the hospital to see me, and made sure my check out process was fast.
I cannot recommend his practice enough. He is honestly one of the best gyn/​obygn in the city.

I am so grateful to have found Dr. Moritz! I have been looking for an OBGYN that I can trust for years. I did a lot of research online and found him based on the feedback from his patients — h is really as good as the reveiws say. He is friendly and down to earth and immediately put me at ease. He is cultured and understands the diets and health predispositions for South Asian women.
He was firm in his advice and made me feel like I was in good hands.
It is a long wait for first time patients to get an appointment, and the wait in the office was almost 1.5 hrs, but well worth it!

I love Dr. Moritz. He is thoughtful, patient, intelligent and kind, as is his staff. He doesn’t talk down to his patient, is a great listener and lovvvves to tease. My complaint, is that it literally takes me three phone calls to the office and often an email to the office manager to get a single phone call returned. It is exhausting. Truly not something I have the time for (in addition to having a job). To get one recent call returned, for example, I had (over the course of 10 patient days) to leave two messages, email the office manager, call 4 times because no one was picking up, then have one call answered, have the call dropped, then email the office manager again.
UPDATE: I am due any day and still love Moritz and his team. The team is aware of, and equally frustrated by, the phone issues — a tip: make sure to ask for their advice re. how to reach the office on various matters. Often, the answer is email, and the replies are timely. The phones are a pain the ass but the team here is so hard working (especially Rosa) and I feel terribly not acknowledging that you’ve just got to get their advice on how to get feedback and ask questions. Once you get the system down, all can run smoothly.

Where to begin … Dr. Moritz is a wonderful, caring, calming, straight forward, no nonsense EXTREMELY knowledgeable man. He was my doctor for my first baby who was born in July of 2014 and he will be again for my next baby, whenever that may be. His staff are a pleasure to interact with, Rosa is willing to do anything to help and Delsa, is great and she keeps it real. The office itself is brand new and centrally located. In full disclosure you need to be prepared to wait to see him. But I assure you, the time you get with him will erase any frustration that comes with the wait. I delivered to another Dr. In the practice (Dr. Hannah) she made me feel so comfortable and while I was sad Dr. M would be in the delivery room with me, all was well. Dr M texted with me while I was laboring at home and reassured me on when it was time to actually make my way to the hospital. The next morning when I was exhausted after delivery, in walked Dr M. and to say I was happy to see him, doesn’t even cover it. 3 months post delivery I went for my follow up appointment which was a week into being back at work. My milk supply had started to decrease and I was a mess. Dr. M was as calming as ever and assured me that we had some options. I highly recommend him and as you can see, am so happy to have found him.

I saw Dr. Moritz for the first time in December 2014 after recently moving to New York. GYN appointments are among my worst fears due to past sexual trauma. This was the best experience with a doctor (any kind of doctor) I have had. Not only did he take the time to listen, but he took the time to teach me about my health. Its clear that he loves his job and cares deeply about his patients. I had imagined he would dismiss me quickly because I was going for a wellness exam and was not pregnant. Instead of robotically proceeding with a routine exam he asked me what he could do for me, and I believed he was sincere. I was able to share, among other vulnerable things, that I suffer from pain during sex. He took time to explain the holistic aspects of my problem, ultimately diagnosed me with a physical condition and explained various treatment options. It’s a complex issue, and he made it clear that he would stay involved in customizing the treatment overtime as necessary. I have no doubt that most doctors would have told me it was all in my head or simply not have had the knowledge to diagnose or offer solutions. Dr. Moritz has lifted a great weight off of me and my husband, and we are experiencing progress. I could have gone for years without a diagnosis feeling afraid of my body and like a failure as a partner in marriage. Now, I can look forward to the future and a baby one day. I would be so happy if Dr. Moritz could be my OB/​GYN when that time comes.

I saw Dr. Moritz for the first time about a month ago. He answered all my questions and was very friendly and professional. His nurse (I forgot get name) also very sweet.
I would give 4.5 points of I could, but only for the receptionists. I was there early for my appointment. I had heard about the long wait times, which is not a big deal. When I first got there I asked if I needed to fill anything out and they told me to have a seat and they would call me up to get the paperwork. After almost 45 minutes I checked in with them and they said they were just about to call me over… Didn’t seem like it though.
Once the paperwork was filled out, everything was great!

I can’t say enough good things about Dr Moritz. When I found out I was pregnant a second time, one of my (many) reasons to be delighted about it was that I would get to visit more often.
He’s a well rounded professional, obviously expert in his field, but also so careful and attentive to his patients, which I find very rare and all the more precious.
I was lucky enough to have a «boring» pregnancy the first time around, but never felt I was a boring patient to him. He always answered my questions carefully, with an ability to give you the story straight and explain reasons of concerns when they exist, while remaining very reassuring indeed.
For my second pregnancy I decided to spice it up and broke my ankle in my 32^nd week. I don’t know what I would have done without him: he saw me right away to make sure the baby was fine (she is), sent me for some XRays and recommended a great orthopedic surgeon. I like that he is decisive and helped me decide the best course of action for my ankle. He was present at every step.
I have now two hopes for the last few weeks:
— that my baby stays put until i can walk on my two feet;
— that Dr Moritz delivers her.
An added bonus for the many French speakers in NYC: he speaks fluent French an also knows the French healthcare system very well.
Lastly: yes there is a wait and yes can be frustrating. But worth it. His staff (Rosa and Telsa) are always very helpful and so kind.

Dr. Moritz really came through for us. Throughout our pregnancy my wife and I went to the Midwives of Columbus Circle – who are also wonderful. The midwives work in the same office as Dr. Moritz, and he is available to back them up if things go wrong.
In our case, things did go wrong. After a very lengthy labor, it turned out that we needed to go in for a medically necessary c-​section. We had an absoluteluy HORRIBLE experience leading up to that decision with the doctor then on call, Dr. Rhee. If we never see that woman again, it will be far too soon.
At any rate, Dr. Moritz caught wind of the treatment we were getting from Dr. Rhee and came by L&D to check on us. He was so kind and patient, explaining the situation wiithout being imperious, and he gave us back the sense of control that Dr. Rhee had stripped away.
Worth noting that he had been on his way home when he stopped by, but he ended up staying 4 hours longer at the hospital to perform my wife’s c-​section. Yes, he is known as the obgyn to the stars. but we are not among those stars. He stayed because he cares.
Yes, also, you will have to wait in line to see him for appointments, but, as with many others, we will do that gladly in the future.
