Specialties
We create Tusc-Mex cuisine, a combination of Tuscan and Mexican home cooking. These two cuisines complement each other in an exciting new blend. Our menu offers a rich variety of choices, from standards such as pasta and quesadillas to the chefs’ fusion creations that introduce new herbs and condiments to each tradition.
At Matilda’s expect to find the friendly atmosphere of a Tuscan «trattoria» or a Mexican «restaurante familiar», in a playful but stylish setting that is fully dedicated to the chefs’ daughter and the blending of two cultures.
A string of words in Italian, Spanish and Matilda’s parlance, envelops the dining space to celebrate what binds the creators of Matilda: the love for food, diversity and family.
At this quirky Alphabet City restaurant, you get wood-burning-oven-baked focaccia with your guacamole, prosciutto and basil in your quesadilla, and filet mignon alla Fiorentina in your tacos. Those fusion dishes and more, like the lasagna de tortillas and zucchini basil soup, are the Tusc-Mex handiwork of Maristella Innocenti and Esteban Molina, who met cooking at I Coppi.

History
Established in 2007.
When our daughter, Matilda, was born we had joked we had a Tusc-Mex in the family. My husband, Esteban, is from Mexico and i, Maristella, am from Tuscany.
After working at my sister’s restaurant, I Coppi, for 8 years, we decided to open our own place and to dedicate it to our newest treasure, Matilda. Our first fusion was so beautiful that we decided to give it another shot, this time a fusion of cuisines.
I hope you will enjoy our warm and cozy atmosphere and friendly service!

Business Owner
I am from Tuscany and my husband Esteban is from Mexico.
We met at my sister’s restaurant, I Coppi, where we worked together for 8 years. We both learned to cook from our moms back home, and we believe that, most of the times, it’s the best way.
