Houston Village Farm’s Deli

So, I’ve had the «Turkey Club Signature Sandwich» from this place before and it was great, but today I ordered it on seamless and the sandwich had NO Turkey on it. That’s correct, a turkey sandwich with NO TURKEY. I asked for a refund and they decided to refund me for the cost of the turkey ($ 3.27). Since I was starving, at work, and going into a meeting I didn’t have time to wait for a new sandwich. What I ate was basically a bread sandwich of condiments and very little bacon. The manager was willing to send the delivery man back out of his way to pick up the intact bread sandwich, but since I had already eaten it I was penalized and told that I couldn’t get a refund for the full sandwich — just the turkey cost. I just find the whole thing appalling and unbelievable.

I had a disappointing seamless experience this morning. The delivery was timely, but my friend and I both ordered chicken soup at $ 4.99 a piece and the soup was microwaved soup straight from a can. You’ve gotta be kidding me…
The soup also came with bread which was a single piece of whole wheat bread sliced in half. I also ordered a bacon, egg and cheese and besides the chewy, plastic like bacon, the sandwich was fine.
I’ve never been to this joint in person and it seems to have some positive reviews, but soup out of a can that runs me $ 4.99 is inexcusable. What I may be missing, is this is an extremely inexpensive option in the east village, but I still can’t shake condensed Campbell’s soup (maybe it was progresso!) at 5 bucks. I won’t be ordering from here again.

This review is on my delivery order. I’m sure walking in and ordering is different.
They took 1 hour and 20 minutes when it was stated they would deliver in 30 – 45 minutes. When everything arrived I ended up with wrong items. They sent me gluten free cookies (gross!) instead of what I ordered. I ordered a double cappuccino and got a very large warm milk with a little coffee added. I’m assuming that’s their version of a large coffee but with too much milk. It’s vomit inducing. So I paid for a double cappuccino and got crappy coffee not worth drinking. The batteries and Advil arrived safely, however. Never again!

Got delivery from here. The «grilled» chicken in a wrap was gross. The roast beef wrap was also bad. The potato salad was over-​dressed. This was a bad meal.

It’s taken me far too long to sing the praises of the Houston Village Farm’s Deli. With great grub to choose including sandwiches and to-​go lunches, this spot easily became my go-​to deli in the EV.
I will always remember the ice cream with toppings delivered to my door at midnight. You simply can’t beat it.

for three years, one of my go-​to seamless orders at least once a week. the bombay sandwich is so good it should be illegal.

Redeemed what I thought was a $ 6 credit via LevelUp here. Shelves are classically packed to the gills in this semi-​upscale bodega, especially for the area. The male staffer behind the counter was pretty gruff, but the woman was very friendly in accepting LevelUp with her phone for my three Kind Bars for $ 6 (far from a deal but not bodega robbery). PS this location is not to be confused w/​the similarly named and also-​on-​LevelUp East Village farm and grocery, or Village Farm grocery, which aren’t Foodler participants.
*It was a Foodler mishap that I sadly pointed out to them for said correction, and the promo has since re-​appeared.

Definitely a level above your average bodega! I walked here to pick up some lunch sandwiches and was happy with my choices. Seamless suggested the teriyaki chicken wrap so I tried that as well as a hummus sandwich. The hummus sandwich was really big. It came with feta, lettuce, tomato and sprouts. I would order it again. The teriyaki wrap was a bit odd. It sort of tasted like a teriyaki bowl in a wrap.
The owner was very friendly and the service was fast. There were tons of snacks, bars, and all the conveniences of a normal bodega. I will be back.

Love this place, I have been going multiple times a week for years as it’s right by my apartment. They always have what I need and its owned and run by the NICEST humans you’ll ever meet. They remembered my name after the third visit. That kind of interaction goes a long way in this city.
Make sure you say hi to the cat who likes to sleep on the newspaper racks :)

I had recently written a rantish update about a delivery from Houston Village Farm gone awry. Not only am I retracting said update and deleting it, I’m now giving them five stars.
In a city such as ours — or any major city, really — it is indicative of remarkable character when an establishment takes the time to personally call (on. the. phone.) a Unilocaler Hater in order to take ownership/​apologize for a generally unobserved and completely commonplace food servicing mistake. One that only cost me $ 1.75, embarrassingly enough.
This happened today. The gentleman on the phone was very gracious; he went above and beyond to rectify the error that had been made with my delivery. I’m beyond impressed with his commitment to customer satisfaction. So many in the service industry claim to aspire to that oft-​used and altogether cheesy term («customer satisfaction» = **eye roll**), but in Houston’s instance it is not so much a goal as it is a daily to-​do.
WOW. Kind of amazed right now. In a good way.

Such nice people. Open late. Decent prices!

I have lived near this corner for a long time and would seriously miss this store if either I or the store were to move. The couple who owns it are hardworking, sweet, honest people. As a vegetarian I have only tried a few of their fresh-​cooked menu offerings, but have always been satisfied. The tofu salad is seriously delicious (I challenge those who «hate tofu» to please ask for a little taste!) and the avocado and jack cheese sandwich is a frequent fave.
As for the dry goods shelves, what a selection. You’ll find pretty much anything you need in a pinch, from household supplies to baking ingredients to canned goods to condiments. Add to that the strange fact that this Indian family also stocks specialty British and Irish food items, and it’s pretty amazing what they pack into one small store.
Prices are pretty much in line with other convenience stores in the neighborhood.
All in all a worthy family business worth patronizing.

It’s ok, but there are much better places nearby. It surprises me that people find the staff so nice. Nothing special… and the place is kind of icky.

Ordered a Hummus Baguette and a Soup.
The Hummus baguette was soggy and the cheese tased like it was expired. This was not Blue Cheese, but feta. The delivery was pretty fast though.
Then this morning I realize they have put up stickers all over our walk up. This just pissed me off.

Great people, awesome selection packed into a tiny yet lovely store. My new fav bodega!

Always smiley, always up for a joke. The sandwiches are DELICIOUS, and the beer is cheap.
I am going to miss them so much that I’ve been considering making them a card when I move.

Their BLTs are amazing! (Cheap too) They also have a good drink selection and always seem to be in a friendly mood.

This places makes sandwiches just like the ones your Mom used to pack you for lunch. If you don’t know what I mean, try it out. Really great, fresh delicatessen that has a wide variety of options and even some delicious samosas. Their sandwiches are seriously cheap (I remember a $ 4.50 ham & cheese), but also quality & totally consistent. I’m here almost every day and the staff is friendly, food tasty & options endless.
Only downside is the beer selection — as with most bodega’s they overcharge like crazy for a six-​pack (so get gangster and go for a 40 oz. instead).

I got the BBQ Chicken on a roll. It was decent for $ 6. It comes with some greens and carrots.
I still have to try more to get a full opinion. However, the selection of shopping and menu are good.
I would suggest Sunny and Annie’s for a better sandwich though.
