I went to this place ‘harueh’, referred by a friend. It was hard to find good hairdresser or hair salon. Most of my life, I had dark hair color and I have wanted a change. Stylist ‘Sang’ totally changed my hair and it was PERFECT! After the change, I had so many compliments from everyone. Clean space. Friendly staffs. I will definitely recommend this place! I feel so lucky that i found this place. Love it! Thank you, Sang!

Have been getting my hair cut with Sang for several years now. Always great results. Have also had my hair colored by him as well, also amazing results. The salon itself is clean, brand new within the past several months. Staff is also friendly. Would absolutely recommend coming here!

I have had hair cut with Jason at Haruth for long time. He is a very professional stylist who knows what people want and always made me very satisfied with my hair. High recommended, price is around 45 for men and it definitely worth it.

Awful business ethic. Clearly has a Unilocal discount for a blowout. When asked if I can redeem it, they said «no» without any legitimate explanation. Said they don’t know anything about the discount even though I showed them the discount on my phone.

Alright, so usually I try to stay away from writing reviews on haircut spots, but the fact that I paid quite a hefty price for a cut at Harueh, I might as well review my first (and most likely last) appointment here.
First, as listed here on Unilocal,it is not by appointment only, meaning that I felt comfortable enough to walk in and request someone who would be able to cut men’s hair. I was informed that a hair stylist would be able to see me in about 20 minutes, and that he has a special price (which was much higher than the actual prices listed on their site) *eye roll* but I was cool with it because I was assuming that this was a pretty nice looking salon and not some sketchy barber shop – which is what I’m used to – so it’d be worth the price.
My hair stylist was obviously in a hurry. I showed him a picture of the type of cut and fade I wanted, he nodded and went to work. Mind you, he kept talking to his friend who also works there, and I guess he was waiting for my hair stylist to finish up so they can leave. By doing so, he kept pausing while cutting my hair and it was taking longer than it should have. *eye roll #2*
When it came to the fade, I didn’t know what to make of it. Usually, when it comes to a fade, one is supposed to blend the different lengths of hair on the side. This hair stylist literally took a small buzzer and buzzed up the middle all around the sides of my head WITHOUT blending. At first, I assumed that perhaps this was some new and edgy style that I can possibly get into. Once he finished cutting he said «ok bye» and went off to speak with his friend. I barely got to thank him for my ~edgy~ cut. I paid, and he was sweet enough to lend me his business card, but I don’t think I’ll be needing it.
You see, I’m used to relaying directions and providing photos for the purpose of making sure my haircut is exactly how I want it. Not how the stylist wants it, or how they THINK I should have it… unless I ask them, then it’s how I want it. Therefore, when I come to realize that perhaps my cut was a bit botched up because he was in a hurry, I decided that I’m better off going to the sketchy barber shops that I’m used to. I can honestly spend ⁴⁰⁄₅₀ bucks LESS, get an actual fade, and still have money for drinks at a happy hour. The girls at the front desk were sweet, but if you’re going to «walk-​in» make sure your stylist isn’t in a hurry.

I highly recommends this hair salon and is definitely one of my favorites. I have been coming to Harueh over a year now, I find it pleasing every time when I visited. If your looking for a professional hair stylist, Sang is definitely one of the most professional hair stylist for both man and woman’s’ haircut and styling. I highly recommend this hair salon and ask for stylist Sang, he’s the best!!!

I am a hard client. First off, I’ve only ever been to a salon a handful of times in my life. I’ve always hated cutting my hair and have found it to be traumatic (mostly along the line of I ask for a bob haircut and I get a Kelly Osborne from the late 90s mullet or a strange asymmetrical animé one. Or I ask for a trim and they take off a foot.). I used the excuse of growing my hair to donate it as a reason why I don’t go to salons but truthfully, it’s because I’m scared of them and I can grow strong hair easily and I think if I could save one kid from some teasing becasue of alopecia or chemo, I should. I’ve donated over 9 feet of hair so far.
I also have very bad scalp psorasis. It’s been so bad recently that I have been seriously contemplating shaving my head to make it easier to put on medicine but I hate short hair (see above animé and bad Osborne haircut experiences). It’s so bad recently, I don’t want anyone else touching it and I’ve been ashamed of my head for the past year. If you part my hair incorrectly, my scalp splits open. If you tug on a lock of hair, it rips. Basically, if you look at it the wrong way, my skin tears under my hair. It hurts and sucks but I don’t mention all of that for pity. I just want you to understand just how difficult it is to work with me.
I needed a trim because the ends of my hair were getting so ratty that they were knotting awfully when I was putting my medicine in every night causing me to hurt my scalp further trying to get them out every morning. It was a horrible negative cycle that I had to break. i walk by this salon on the way to/​from a weekly appointment almost next door so I saw this salon first open and how packed it has gotten over the months and most importantly, how HAPPY all the people who walk out look. I called ahead of time because I was terrified I would get humiliated or kicked out of the salon for my psoriasis or have someone working on me with barely contained disgust (it has happened before) and made sure they knew what I had. I spelled it out for them to make doubly sure since I have no idea what the Korean word is for it. They told me it was okay and to come in and I was able to make a same day appointment. I was so nervous when I got there but everyone’s reviews about them being super nice are totally true.
Angel greeted me and after a brief wait, she took me to the back for a wash. I nervously reminded her that I was the person who called ahead of time with the psoriasis and she nodded and I asked her to not use any nails on my head and she was super gentle the whole time. She didn’t even rub my head with the towel afterwards as they usally do. She had to wring my hair out with the towel, seperately but was careful not to hurt my scalp.
Shortly thereafter, a very youthful, Jason joined us. He asked what it was I wanted and I said, a trim because the ends of my hair were knotting everyday. I said I didn’t mind if he needed to take off a lot since I was thinking I might shave it off anyway but he said «Don’t worry. I won’t make you cry, today.»
He was careful not to scrape my scalp with his tools and was very gentle on placing the sections of my hair away, at times. Because of the the length of my hair, he spent most of the haircutting time ON HIS KNEES, ON CONCRETE. I apologized to him because I never expected that (OMG, salon owner, get him a chair that pumps higher or his knees will be ruined soon!!)!
He told me a lot of interesting things while he was working on me. Like when I asked what he was doing because I had never seen anyone surface cut my hair before (he went down the entire flat side of my hair with scissors and repeated all around my head). He said that all those frizzies I had would behave differently when cut with scissors as opposed to being broken off. (The more you know!) He did a lovely job and let me keep most of my length and both he and Angel worked together to dry my hair. He instructed her to use the cool setting only and not to tug my hair while doing so because of the delicate condition of my scalp.
Even while drying my hair, he asked me if I blow dried my hair and I told him I didn’t (I’ve never even owned a blow dryer before.) He told me it was healthier for me to lightly blow dry my scalp (he said the rest of my hair was optional) because the skin up there was weaker when wet and it was unhealthy for it to stay wet for the hours it probably did while I was air drying it.
And then he went ahead and curled some of the ends to give me bouncy, shiny hair, the likes of which I’ve never had before. Now, I totally understood why so many happy people leave that salon and couldn’t stop myself from touching and flipping my hair all evening. It even stayed looking great all night so I took a pic just before going to bed (because I can’t have Princess Shinylocks hair, forever).

This place is great. Jason is an amazing stylist. He is very patient and always makes sure you like what you are getting along the way. He even taught me how to properly blow dry my hair and the type of products I should get without making me feel like an idiot. He’s very good, focused and knows his stuff.
Also, if you are tall, Jason is tall too, so you won’t need to slouch since he actually props up the chair. Most of the time I’m too tall for most stylists, even on the lowest chair height, so I slouch to help them out.

Walked in there on Tuesday and was warmly welcomed by Megan who later also cut my hair. (I have short and thick asian hair) The second I entered I felt a professional atmosphere and I was surrounded by nice people. I just wanted a simple cut and I got more than that! First someone washed my hair before Megan asked me what I wanted. She got directly into it and we had a lovely conversation during the cut. :) After that she sent me over again to get my hair washed — again! I never experienced it before that someone wanted to check my hair after washing it again. I was positively surprised by that professional move. She corrected the cut and after she finished I had one last wish and she fulfilled it and finished the cut with styling my hair with wax! I was satisfied with the cut. She asked if she could take a picture but I never saw the pictures anywhere: D
The only thing that might be criticized is the price. As I walked to the cashier and she told me the price I was a little bit shocked. I used to get $ 10 hair cuts overseas. I knew that I have to expect more than that but I didn’t expect THAT much for a short hair cut. BUT: TOTALLY WORTH IT!
CONCLUSION: if you’re looking for a professional hair salon with really friendly people and if you’re willing to spend a little bit more money, then HARUEH is the place for you!

Myungsoo took my long, thick mess of a hair and created a shorter, silky, and stylish masterpiece. Everyone was SUPER sweet, kind, polite and just plain awesome. My hairstylist Jason was a total sweetheart and after him working his magic, I walked out with a Va-​va-​woom ««sexy-​bedhead» blowout hair ! My hair even smells amazing too !!! They use Davines products which I love and are soooo good for your hair !
I normally have reservations about new people cutting my hair but I felt comfortable enough to schedule a haircut with him. Jason, thank you — you are amazing !

Haircut is an important thing, thus I did lots of research on Unilocal and read lot of reviews in the hope of having an average decent service. I’m Asian, so I carefully made my choice among Asian hairdressers because I thought Asians might know better about ourselves’ hair and style. Unfortunately, I got one of the Most Disappointing haircut in my life at Harueh by Jason. Tough Luck. (No exaggerate, I just washed my hair this morning and it is even worse and out of control)
I’m not a picky customer and I was happy with most of my pervious hairdressers’ work. I had followed a hairdresser before I moved to NYC. His price is comparable to that of Harueh and I respect his skill. Every time I just ask him simply «I need a haircut my hair is too long» (just like what I told Jason) then I will get a very good style, feeling refreshing, confident and pretty. But the work did by Jason yesterday, it is really a tragedy for me.
Back to my experience at Harueh. When Jason was working on my hair, I noticed that the time he played with his tools is more than the time did real cuts on my hair (and he dropped his comb on the floor for several times while cutting, making me worried).
My hair is in long curly style and the front part grew very long and thick, making me feel uncomfortable. Jason did nothing about it at all so I asked him to trim this part to make it not that annoying. I thought he will do something like hair layers etc., But No! He simply and horizontally cut off all my front hair off at the length near my chin, and told me to blow out front hair everyday after hair-​washing! So I spend bucks for a horizontal cut that everyone can do by themselves at home… Tough Luck. Really beyond my imagination.
It is Y2016 I cannot believe at the modern New York city I got a haircut in this way. As a customer I don’t know how to trim every step specifically but I definitely can tell the result is good or not, the skill of hairdresser is good or not.
The only thing can pair with Jason’s skill is his poor professional attitude. When I was watching at the mirror not super exciting with my hair (front part is nightmare), he just suggested me «blow out the front hair with hairdryer everyday”(wtf!) and «well I done my job» then left…
Then I paid the full price and receptionist told me «they are all the best hairdresser.» Ironic.
Maybe as other customer said, Jason is good at coloring and perm. But definitely NOT haircut.

Thanks to Harueh, my hair is now my fifth best feature. Followed after my looks, intelligence, charm, and modesty.
But seriously, I wouldn’t normally take the time to vouch for a hair salon unless I really felt strongly about it. I’ve been getting my hair cut from Sang, Harueh’s managing stylist, for the past four years and haven’t had anything but an awesome haircut by him. Harueh only recently opened, but I knew Sang from his previous salon, Hair Osh.
Sang is incredibly meticulous and explains how he cuts various locks for my desired effect. I have straight, silky Asian hair (and lots of it) that’s rather difficult to style. I prefer to keep it longer, but constantly have to flatten the bulky sides. So Sang recommended thinned-​out under layers to reduce bulk, while maintaining length. It’s been working out great and I always look forward to coming back every 3 – 4 months.
Harueh is a brand new salon with an open concept layout and concrete loft aesthetic. The staff is very courteous and rather attentive to my salon experience, which follows as check-​in, storing away my bag/​coat, washing my hair pre-​haircut, haircut, washing my hair post-​haircut, blow drying and styling my hair, picking up on my bag/​coast, and check-​out. Each step of my experience never feels rushed or haphazard. Everything almost has a sense of ceremony to it. To my even most particular friends, I recommend Sang and Harueh for their salon experience.

Sang is beyond amazing. He really knows what looks best for each person and always gets my hair exactly right whether it’s a cut, color or style. He’s very professional, very creative and full of great ideas that always turn out beautifully. He has given me the perfect color from pastel pink, purple, lavender, ash, … love it every single time! I’m totally spoiled and at the point now where I completely trust him to do whatever he thinks would work for me. He is the GREATEST!

The place is very clean and the staff is friendly too.
I’ve had Sang as my go-​to hair stylist for almost 4 years now and he gets it done right every time even without a lot of explanation. Never met a hair stylist that I can rely on this much, highly recommend him!

Like how you think of typical Korean people, I’m also interested in my hair style a lot and really picky about having a hairdresser cut my hair.
And ‘Sang’ is the best hair stylist who I’ve had in my whole life.

As most people would agree, a good hair stylist is probably one of the hardest things to find. Even if you find a great fit, it’s really hard to keep one that can constantly update new styles and come to table with new ideas– at least that’s how it was for me until I found Sang.
I’ve been following Sang for years now and it truly amazes me how he can always put a smile on my face. He just seems to get it, knows how to take the risk involved to get to the style you want but also knows when to hit the breaks when it’s too much. I have been down the block, from fekkai, woodley/​bunny, top notch Japanese stylists and they have all commented on Sang’s cutting techniques.
Hands down, one of the best stylists in NY.

I originally went to Harueh for a haircut, but ended up getting balayage done as well.
I’m so so happy with how my hair turned out! From the moment I walked in, I was treated so well. Myung Soo Kim and another woman (I didn’t get her name) greeted me as soon as I came in and they both were very welcoming and kind. I was offered tea and water and the woman took my purse for me.
While I was getting my hair cut, I could tell Myung Soo Kim was extremely talented and very attentive. He took a lot of time to cut my hair and make sure everything was perfect– I’ve never had that level of attention to detail before. When I was getting my hair dyed, he brought over magazines, water, and a little arm rest for me.
I can’t say enough how great and warm the staff are. My experience is ¹⁰⁄₁₀. I will be coming back for sure!
