I asked if avocado could be added to my dosa and they said yes but for an additional $ 3. I kinda laughed and joked with the woman, «what is there an entire avocado in my dosa?» The woman said actually yes that they put A LOT of avocado in the dosa. I went ahead with the order. Got my dosa. There were at most 5 slices — likely less than half an avocado. $ 3 is quite the mark up. The dosa was also not very warm. My friend and I both noted also that the dosas do not come with sambar but you do get a choice of one small container of chutney.

Love the food. Love the concept. Struggling to love the new location. The energy is really different which makes sense it’s in a sleepy part of Soho, still, no effort is noticeable that they are trying to make it work, at least on the level of consciousness — the place is alway disheveled. The tables are messy, the chairs not pushed in and floors filthy. Please make this new environment work — the product is excellent and the price perfect for a neighborhood so pricey.

Great prices and good hearty food close by heart of Soho. My yoga studio is only a block away and I wish I knew about this place earlier instead of eating at the halal carts! Ive had a few of their dosas and also their rice dishes. Nice flavors. Large portions here! If I’m in the area and want a bite to eat I would come here.

Being a good South Indian girl… I should love dosa, right? Not always… it must be paper thin, crispy, not greasy, and have flavorful accompaniments that must still allow the dosa to shine. SCORE! Curry chicken, spinach, and onion(red, sweet, and slightly charred) was delicious with just enough heat and spice. The peanut chutney is gustatory gold!!! Velvety-ever so slightly sweet, spicy, stands alone. Coconut chutney too sweet for my taste. I will be back for cheese dosa and soup combo and thali. Staff cool, helpful, and honest

I LOVE Hampton Chutney. This Indian-American Fusion is delicious. The food is healthy, simple, and tasty. The workers are super friendly and helpful. The Dosas are my favorite thing to get. Definitely would recommend if you are in the SoHo area!

Popped my dosa cherry! Tried the #10 — Potato Masala with Grilled Chicken & Spinach with the curry chutney. The menu board mentioned spicy but it wasn’t. The curry chutney gives a tiny tiny bit of a kick but the flavor is still great. I think the spiciest chutney is the tomato but it wasn’t that spicy. Must come back and try more!

This was a favorite lunch place of mine when I worked in the area. The dosas are delicious, and the chutneys are too – my favorite is the masala deluxe(potato, spinach, sun-dried tomato, cheese) with mango chutney, plus some of their delicious lemonade. Can get very crowded at lunchtime, but everything moves pretty quickly – I’ve always been able to nab a spot by the time my order’s up, although I wouldn’t count on being able to sit with a friend!

My first time at Hampton Chutney. The food is as good as other reviewers have said. I ordered the seasonal dosa– butternut squash, beet, & goat cheese. It was fresh and the edges were crispy. I was surprised to discover upon receiving my order that the dosa is the size of a whole baguette. When I cut it in half, I noticed that the filling is light. An entire dosa could be a full meal, half a small one. Chutney really added a flavor boost & they have about five to choose from, so you can tailor it with your choice. Atmosphere is clean and quiet with many tables. It is drafty from the front door frequently opening and closing so I recommend this place for a short stay. Service is average. Some staff are friendlier than others but no one is rude.

Ducked in here on a rainy Thursday and was surprised at how fast they prepared my order. It literally took 2 – 3 minutes. Dosa was light, flaky, not A-amazing but pretty good. I asked for a «custom filling» potatoes with curry and fresh spinach combo which was solid! Fast, cheap and tasty. A good place if you’re felling the Indian vibe.

I had the masala dosa here and it was very good. I also liked the plain seltzer bottles they had because they had much stronger carbonation than the brands you usually get at other places. I deducted a star only because the way they packed my dosa left it exposed to the cold temperature and as a result it was pretty cold by the time I got to my hotel room. I can understand that they might have packed it that way to keep it crisp. So I’m torn on deducting the star. Tasted great nevertheless. Hence the four stars.

Always great food, very healthy and reasonably priced. I adore so many of their dishes. The thali platter is a fee as is their grilled cheese with avocado and chicken. Don’t miss their home made iced Chai in the summer, hot in the winter.

This is my favorite Dosa place and it has consistent, excellent quality. Usually split a masala and a curry chicken Dosa with my bf and love them equally. Like the peanut chutney so much that I never try the other kinds. Chai is very good too. Restaurant and bathroom are very clean, something I do not take for granted in NYC restaurants at this price point which is about ten to twelve bucks per Dosa. Love the new location — airy and calm, plus the old location didn’t have a bathroom and eating finger food in NYC without being able to wash hands first was far from ideal.

Had a serious dosa craving yesterday so my 10-year-old and I trekked down to Hampton Chutney for lunch. Here are my thoughts: Ambiance: This is a very clean, casual restaurant. I appreciated the newness of the space. Service: The cashier wasn’t super helpful with our menu questions, nor was she friendly. Food: – Breakfast dosa was enormous and the dosa itself was cooked well, but the eggs just didn’t taste very fresh. Accompany spinach, tomatoes, and avocado were good but the dosa as a whole didn’t come together. – Daughter had the turkey/brie sandwich, which she really liked and finished.(I have issues with her ordering a sandwich at a dosa place but that’s another story.) – Chutneys were quite bland and weren’t memorable(mango and tomato). Overall: While quantities were large I think prices are too high for this casual restaurant, especially as the dosa was just okay for me. Not sure I’ll return but if I do I’ll go the traditional route and try the potato dosa instead.

Hampton Chutney Co is a South Indian casual restaurant with a modern twist. It’s good for a quick lunch. They have traditional Indian flavors like masala and curry chutney chicken, and also options like grilled portobello mushrooms with spinach and balsamic roasted onsions. You have two options for bread — dosas and uttapams(pizza-style). I ordered the seasonal dosa with roasted butternut squash. It was pretty good but the dosa itself was very heavy on the salt. I also ordered their chai and it was very tasty and reminded me of my trip to India. I like Hampton Chutney Co, but their flavors are more modern than traditional Indian. It would be nice to see more Indian flavors on the menu.

Wanted to post a rave for Hampton Chutney catering from this location which I used for a birthday party this weekend. Staff were highly communicative, friendly, helpful and good at estimating how much food we’d need. Food was warm(even though we were a little late for pick up), vibrant looking and delicious. Guests devoured it. Price was reasonable. Nose to tail, this was a near-perfect experience.

Mango lassis here go perfectly with a huge dosa. Yogurty with cardamon seeds, and real delicious mango.

Hampton Chutney Co’s dosas are delicious! Though they are busy around lunchtimes, many people take out so you should be able to find a seat if you want to eat in the restaurant. There is no table service, you simply order at the register. They give you a buzzer for when your food is ready, but most times they will just call your name out anyway. The dosa itself tastes very authentic. It is just the right consistency: crispy yet chewy and tangy. The curried chicken filling is really delicious! You can’t go wrong with the combinations really. It’s fairly inexpensive, quick, and delicious! You should give this place a try if you’re in the area or you’re craving some dosa.

$ 10 – 15, delicious, nutritious. Select any number 1 – 22. You will not be disappointed. The chutneys are fantastic. My favorite is the cilantro. You will be craving this place on the regular. Don’t forget your mango lassi.

LOVEEEEE me some Hampton chutney dosas and Uttapams — all items on the menu. The mace is clean and staff is friendly and quick. Try the cheesecake brownie mmmmm!!! The con: seems pricey so it adds up if you go more than once a week.

This is a good place to eat. It is pretty busy and the tables are not always clean, but the dosas are pretty good, so I stop by when I am in the neighborhood. I like the #13 with tuna and the #8. Both with the curry sauce on the side.

I lived in India and these dosas are yummy. The restaurant is involved with Siddha Yoga which has the current guru Gurumayi Chidvilasananda. The food is simple and local. The Chai is fantastic. They always play music of Gurumayi chanting and it’s very relaxing. I recommend the traditional dosa, the breakfast dosa or the seasonal. The cilantro chutney is the best. #Chant&Chai

Yes the idea of having Dosa excites me for a extreme south Indian I am and that’s the reason I chose to visit this place when I was living in Soho. The arrangements are really neat and impressively organized. While the dosa was true to it’s taste the chutneys were way below my expectations, they were nothing close to being fresh nor authentic. It’s slightly over-priced for the snack meal like Dosa and Uttapam but the neatness must cost something I appreciate the ambiance.

This new location is much more spacious than its previous one on Prince street and the food is just as wonderful! I’ve been here a few times, the staff is always friendly and the atmosphere is very peaceful. I had the curry chicken, onion and spinach dosa with mango and cilantro chutney and it was divine! The food isn’t heavy and filled with a bunch of different spices/flavors. I also recommend trying their drinks. My favorite is their iced cardamom coffee!

What can I say? I gotta thing for South India… wink wink. And what you say has me all hot and bothered by South India? Well, the dosas of course… Hampton Chutney recently moved closer to Chinatown, so it makes it a lot easier for me to get to this location now. Not that the old establishment was far, but coming a bit further South on the island helps me a lot. I came here on a weeknight around 8pm and the place was filled with people. You could see dosas on every table. I ordered the classic dosa(stuffed with potatoes) and it comes with a choice of chutney. I went for the mango chutney. I also was very thirsty, so the iced chai(not too sweet) hit the spot. I made the mistake of ordering dosa to-go(really laughable), and had to carry it in my backpack home. Kind of funny to see a long package hanging out of my backpack with a trailing aroma of Indian spices… I guess I fit into NYC just fine. Prices are a bit higher than what you would expect if you went to Curry Hill, but I can hang with that for the convenience and for a well made dosa. I’ll be back when I have a hankering for desi…

Went initially went to their old location since Google Maps had not updated their current Grand St. location. After a few more minutes of walking, we found the place was closed & not open until 11 am! Their old location opened earlier, so we shopped around & stopped by later. Very disappointing & boring — the food was mediocre & lacking in flavor. I think it’s good if you are NOT Indian, It’s way too«Americanized». I have nothing against modern food but even this was just bad for contemporary food. For Indians, skip this place & head over to Saravan Bhavan or MTR instead.

This place brings two of my favorite things together at last: the hamptons and chutney! That and they have some of the best food in town and friendliest staff. I can’t say I’m much of a fan of Indian food but I can eat dosas all day long. They are so light and flavorful and the chutneys really add a different dimension to the taste of each dosa. My only complaint is that they don’t have other locations outside of NY, namely San Diego. That being said, I’ve been to all the locations in town as well as the original one in the Hamptons and you can’t go wrong with any of them!
