Halloween Adventure

This is a great shop with a HUGE inventory and convenient location, just a few short blocks from the southeast corner of Union Square. Whether you’re highly experienced with costumes and cosplay or simply need a costume to throw on for a party, this place has something for everyone. I especially love that they have an entire section devoted to makeup and special effects. They carry Ben Nye products which in my opinion are the best and they are very hard to find at any other store. They also have prosthetic horns, hair dye, liquid latex, ears, teeth and fangs… even color contact lenses. They carry top tier, middle tier, and lower tier products throughout the store which is great. One can easily spend $ 3 or $ 300 on an item and walk out satisfied. You can buy pre-​made costumes in full or props and add-​ons for ones you’re making yourself. They have a large array of costumes for adults and children, a huge variety of hats, shoes, weapons, and accessories, as well as gag & prank items and decorations. Although their wig section generally isn’t ideal for serious costumes or cosplays they’re inexpensive and perfectly fine for a party or more casual costume and they do carry a handful of higher quality wigs. If you have an event that requires intricate props, they’ve got a whole area downstairs where you can rent things that you wouldn’t normally buy. The staff is very professional and helpful and run a tight-​ship. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, don’t be shy to ask, they’re very nice and know their way around the store. This is New York, so this place does a lot of business all throughout the year, not just on Halloween and despite the traffic, this place is ALWAYS kept in tip-​top shape. Never messy, always organized.
If you need an item that falls into the goth or steampunk category and can’t quite find what you need, just head next store to Gothic Renaissance (not sure but I think they may be owned or managed by the same folks? I got that impression but I could be wrong).
Please note that with very few exceptions, sales are final– they have a sign that clearly says so at the register.

First off, they have they widest variety of costumes you can imagine: adult, child, high-​quality, cheaper, silly, creepy, sexy, etc. What ever you need they’re bound to have it, along with wigs, makes, makeup and props. Also, as someone who’s involved in NYC’s independent film scene, it’s amazing to know that I can always come here whenever I’m in need of some special effects makeup and fake blood.
Even better, they offer all kinds of Halloween décor all year ’round, from basic bones and guts to creepy candle holders and some animatronics. Even Christmas, Mardis Gras, and St. Patricks Day décor are offered seasonally. And for those of us who stay scary throughout the year, there’s plenty of décor you can use all the time for both display and everyday use. I’ve bought mugs, glasses, candles, candle holders, and magnets from this store, and I really have my eye on that Nightmare Before Christmas cookie jar. If you are a Halloween enthusiast on any level, you absolutely have to come here.

Lets get to it. the fact this place exists all year… FIVE STARS!
So much to see you have to go back a second day, just so much.
They have a seasonal section that stocks costumes appropriate for Christmas, St Patrick’s, etc. Staff is really into costumes too, happy and plain fun to talk to. One guy wears a Friday the 13^th necklace and swore he was born on that date. See what I mean about fun and unique :)

The people here are so rude. Yeah they have lots of custumes and options to choose from and I don’t mind Spending 240 on something if that I love and want but the minute you’re rude and your manager does nothing to improve the problem I choose to go to party city instead.

I litereally had to drag my friend and i out of the store. So much fun stuff!

I just left this store about an hour ago. It’s the night before Halloween. The line just to get into the place was a mile long. But I waited it out.
To be fair, I don’t know if I would have even bothered if my job didn’t make it mandatory to dress up. I just relocated to NYC from LA and I pretty much have no money. However, I was able to piece together a basic costume for myself and my fiancée for about $ 40.
But the price is not what impressed me. The staff here are AMAZING!!! There were so many frickin’ people in that place I almost had panic attack and nearly lost all hope of ever getting out of there with a costume. But every single staff member I spoke to was patient, friendly, and always able to help me. It helps, of course, if you as the customer aren’t a total pain in the butt; however, from watching other interactions with my fellow shoppers I can stand by my first impression of an all-​star staff. Bravo to all of them working the most insane shifts of the year! I know I’ll be back again!

This place really needs to get with the times. They are so overstocked and packed to the brim with terrible, poorly made costumes that they are fleecing tourists (or possibly just dumb NYers). Went in for a Harry Potter costume for Halloween and I kid you not, a polyester adult cloak was $ 150. The children sizes were $ 40.
Needless to say, went on Amazon Prime and ordered the exact costume for $ 20 and it will be delivered in two days. I really hate to do this and used to enjoy supporting this store. But for this kind of trickery they deserve to go out of business.

Stepping into this place is like entering another one… a world that is at once kitschy, terrifying, funny, and nostalgic. How can all this be found here you ask? Well, if you loved Halloween as a child (my all time favorite Holiday by far) the nostalgia is clearly evoked by Halloween Adventure. Indeed, it takes you back to a time when you were so excited to pick out your Halloween costume!!! However, we never had anything close to being this cool where I grew up.
It is kitschy, but in the very best of ways. They have all the old Halloween props you remember and then even more you’ve never seen in your life. This could be a haven for someone decorating for Halloween, designing a theater/​film set, or an artist looking for studio props. It’s a huge array of objects, from the miniscule to (yes!!) a full life size «Skeleton Band» (yours for only $ 1900).
The terrifying comes via their mask selection. Dear God, how many masks exist? Halloween Adventure must have 95% of them. Everything is represented here– from creatures that look as though they stepped from the pages of Dante’s Inferno, to the tired boring Marvel universe characters, to all sorts of Cos-​Play stuff (even furries, hahaha), but the overall trend with their mask curation is the macabre. Some of these masks truly would haunt your dreams and nightmares. I’m a grown man and I found them unsettling.
The funny aspect of the store is in the downstairs section. This is what I like to call the «Slutty» Halloween outfits section. Obviously they put this all downstairs for a reason, because it is indeed risqué. My favorite aspect of these readymade outfits is that on the outside of the packaging they show you what your ass will look like in the outfit. This is hilarious!!! Not to mention nice to look at!!! There are even more risqué sections, with lingerie and sexy stockings but I get the idea that these are more for cos-​play than Halloween.
I’ve walked by here so many times over the years and had never ventured inside. I’m really happy I did, as it was a great way to spend an hour. I liken it almost to a trip to the museum, except this is a sort of «living» museum where you can see some of our strangest habits and fantasies play out inside a store. This is a special place and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a costume or just wanting to enjoy themselves with amazing visuals.

This store has everything. Lots of packaged costumes, separate pieces, accessories, masks, wigs, makeup, even party decorations. Costumes are organized by theme, so if you look up for the signs, it’s pretty easy to find what you’re looking for. The staff are not very professional or helpful, but overall it was a fine experience.

Final sale on everything. You know why? They don’t want you to be able to return overpriced crappy poorly sewn made shit costumes. This is my second Halloween coming here. The first time the costume was shit but I thought they might be able to redeem themselves. BUT NO. A pair of gloves that came with my costume looked like they were sewn by a blind child, HEY IT PROBABLY WAS.
While there are plenty of associates walking around asking if anyone needs help, no one really seems like they know what they’re doing. Some of them were so rude by first completely dismissing my questions by saying oh yeah I’ll check and then never answering even though I asked again or by being completely rude to other sales people. Two sales people got into a weird angry exchange and I was standing there awkwardly.
BUT BESIDES all the rudeness, the costumes are complete shit don’t come here unless you want to be ripped off.

First of all they had literally more than 10 people «working» in this store, aka hanging out cursing and flirting. I waited on one line for almost 10 minute before being told «I’m helping this customer, if you don’t want to wait forever you should go to another register.» Went to other register where the girl working there was more focused on counting pennies and flirting with the guy standing uselessly beside her
to successfully check out even 3 people in under FIFTEEN MINUTES. Dropped my purchase on the shelf, said F it, this customer service sucks, walked out. I’ll go give my business to a big box halloween store instead. Shame, because I wanted to do business with this place because i like shopping local and this store looks so cool.

I love this place. It’s open year round so you really don’t have to wait until last minute to find yourself a costume. They have EVERYTHING you can think of. One year, I wanted to dress up like the Easter Bunny for the kids around Easter time and I found a great costume there, in stock.

I really like this store. It has an amazing selection of Halloween costumes and great decorations. It’s a bit pricey and they never seem to run sales but the selection is better than any other costume store in the city. Even better, it’s open all year long.

Whether you’re dressing up for the kids or prepping for an orgy, you’ll likely find the costume you need at Halloween Adventure. The place is bigger than an Amish village. Bonus: reasonable prices and fab service. I found a medieval/​renaissance-​style gown, complete with headpiece, for under $ 70.

I was actually on my way to party city looking to buy a hat for my son (crazy hat day) and ran into this place. This place is freaking huge just when you think it’ll end it doesnt it continues. They have everything so organized which i love, looking for clowns it has its own section, horror?, shoes?, etc. they have everything where you think they would. The hat area had plenty to choose from and the worker who helped me was very very helpful, unfortunately I didn’t get her name. I ended up choosing a hat my boyfriend was more excited about than i was, hopefully this hat is crazy enough for my son’s school tomorrow. I totally recommend this place.
Oooh and the cashier was super hot!

The employees here were patient and courteous since multiple staff members noticed our aimlessness, asked us if we needed help and walked us through various sections of their inventory. Apparently, two women gossiping in a store and marveling at all the pretty colors were not the most adept at pinpointing what was necessary to assemble a board-​game costume with less than a week of time. Who knew?
The detail of the items in this store were remarkable since Harlequin masks, plastic to seemingly hand-​made costumes, head to toe accessories, several dozen types of pantyhose, fake swords and functional whips were littered throughout a two-​story warehouse. Ornate costume jewelry, faux blood-​spattered pumps and flowy wigs that put a lot of human hair to shame were some of the highlights of our journey.
I appreciated the fact that there were many female costume options and not just the usual run-​of-​the mill baby whore Halloween outfits, although those existed as well. Interestingly, they had a female Freddy Krueger costume. Even though the picture of the model wearing said costume had an impressive set of gams, the idea of Freddy wearing a miniskirt with those nails did not strike me as matchy-​matchy. I also regret not buying those bloody pumps, since their appearance inspires me to violently step on people.
I spent a few hours here and I am returning in July, since a store employee told me that the inventory would damn near double as Halloween never ended here, it just ramped up its busy season early.

Even if your creative juices are running low, rest assured you’ll have plenty to work with as you peruse aisle after aisle of costumes and accessories. Though I’d already settled with an idea for a costume, I wasn’t committed to whether or not I should rock a mask, tiara, or both. It didn’t help that there are so many other fun costumes to choose from, you could easily get detracted from said goal.
You’ll find the run of the mill costumes here, from creepy clowns to seductive superheroes, Halloween Adventure delivers! What sets them apart are their extensive selection of accessories: the hats and masks alone are worth the trip.
Pro tip: If you’re feeling fancy, they carry some very flashy tiaras and exquisite mardi gras masks. You’ll look like the diva you are :)
The only caveat is their store policy remains: no refunds or exchanges.
If you’re pressed for time and in need to put together a costume within 24 hours, you’ve found the right spot. And when in doubt, phone a friend or ask any of the friendly staff :)

Halloween all year long, all day, err day!
Great selection of costumes and accessories. Had just what I needed to put together my outfit for this year’s Unilocal Winter Break in AC party.
Prices range from inexpensive manufacturer costumes to really expensive designer duds. They even have dressing rooms here to try on stuff which is great. Terrific friendly staff here too that are very helpful. If I worked in a fun environment like this I would be cheery and fun too. It’s like letting your inner child run wild over two floors of wall to wall Halloween all year long. I can imaging Halloween season this place is a mob scene so shop accordingly.
Costumes, props, decorations, masks, accessories — you name it and you can probably find it here. All sales are final though so make sure what you get is what you really want.

Never again will I worry about what I’ll be for Halloween. Not with Halloween Adventure nearby!
As August rolled around, I began worrying about Halloween because I had placed a self enforced ban on using makeup this year. I usually go all out and end up covered in blood and oily face paints, only to spend the entire night trying not to scratch my face, and then end up rubbing said face raw in the shower for two hours after getting home from costume partying.
Not this year! Here’s the problem though, when you ban what you’re good at, what do you replace it with? Enter Halloween Adventure.
After stressing for all of September and the first two weeks of October, my wife and I braved a wild nor’easter to browse the options at this mega emporium of costumes. I went from zero ideas to way too many ideas in 5 minutes flat.
There are tons of staff members ready and willing to guide you to the part of the store containing the bits and pieces you need to become someone different for a night. Luckily for my makeup/​blood ban, we were invited to a masquerade ball this year, which had a «fancy costume» dress code. This helped whittle down the options.
At the end of our search, my wife and I decided to go as Bruce Wayne and Selena Kyle. It’s only fitting since we’re attending a fundraiser ball! A pair of «fancy» cat and bat masks, and a cape, of course, and we were set!
I know this place gets absolutely batshit crazy the closer to Halloween it is, so be sure to get in there early! Two weeks out on a Friday evening was manageable.

How is it this store has so few reviews?
There’s so much to see, so much from which to choose!
You can come here to browse or shop or play,
Come and be a kid again, put your problems at bay.
There are 2 floors of fun; the store takes up one full city block,
You could spend all day here, and still not see all the stock.
Come alone, or with friends. Or hell, my favorite is to bring a date!
Just don’t take any pictures, or the staff will hate.
There’s ghosts and ghouls, and mythical creatures of all sorts,
Pirates, priests, policemen, and witches with warts!
Slutty, cool, humorous or scary,
Within each collection, the assortment will vary.
Wigs, hats, masks, and props galore,
It’s 360 halloween, even shop for décor!
There’s a proper makeup counter, for stage or for street,
Prosthetics and blood, all sort of SFX, its pretty damn neat.
They have things that range from cheap to expensive,
And rentals for you serious folks, don’t get apprehensive!
If you’re a student and poor, they take that into account,
Show them your ID, you’ll get a small student discount!
Lastly they’re open all year long,
You have no reason, not to come along.
So start preparing yourself for next Halloween!
