Graceful Spa

We booked a massage after hearing about this «spa» on groupon. I’m surprised Unilocal averages 4 stars for this place. The spa is located in a building that looks like an abandoned space. There were holes in the walls and the ceiling was missing. The waiting room furniture appeared to be very worn. They showed us to an area separated by curtains with hard tables covered in paper linens. There was a bin for your clothes that looks like the ones used in airport security. The massage area looked nothing like the photos on Unilocal.We left without getting our massages. I’ve had massages for half the price in much cleaner facilities, and would not recommend you go here.

2^nd time here. Got Groupon deal when its on 20% sale, i think i paid like $ 38?
My MT is quite a strong lady, even though i like the pressure, however its a little too strong for me this time, she pressed to hard on my back i felt a bit pained on my stomach… after i told her that she is using too much pressure she became more gentle and it feels good…
Place is clean, easy to make an appointment. In and out in one hour so its great!

First time at this spa. I had one of the best massages I’ve ever had. No frills, great price, friendly staff. I can’t wait to go back! I would recommend going during the week because it can get busy on the weekend

BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD. Whoever claims they’ve had a good experience here obviously has never received a proper massage before. The bad thing about massage locations in New York is you can’t tell if the place is ghetto or not by looking at the website. You just kind of have to wing it.
I went in for the 90 minute massage and 60 minute facial and I left with pinched nerves and product that was rubbed into my eyeballs, and consistently, having to throw away my $ 60 prescription contacts because the masseuse doesn’t know properly to stay away from eyes.
It wasn’t that the massage was too rough, she just rubbed me in all the wrong places. No pun intended.
When calling for a refund, the receptionist said, in a very snarky and condescending tone, that there’s a sign somewhere that says «if you’re not happy with your masseuse within the first 15 minutes we can switch you out for free» and she also said «Well, you know you should read signs whenever you go to places.» Thanks for the advice, duly noted.
It wasn’t until 30 minutes in that I realized my masseuse didn’t know what the hell she was was doing and I’m not the person who looks around for masseuse switch out policies when I’m at a place that so happens to be highly rated.
I think these high ratings are paid.
Save your money, it really isn’t a bargain when you have to go see a chiropractor to put your body back into alignment afterwards.
Also, rooms are divided by curtains and everyone makes a ton of noise. Halfway into my massage a man comes in and is making sex noises the rest of my hour there. It was like something out of a movie. pure torture.

Spare yourself the experience. The ambience is far from what you would expect from a spa. The décor is far from what you would except from a spa. The set up is far from what you would expect from a spa.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place even if it was free. A few times the masseurs climbed on the bed with me to get to certain parts of my back. The first part I got massaged was my rear end. Curtains divide the space between you and the next client, so you hear everything going on around you. They don’t wear uniforms. A kitchen timer goes off when your time is up and abruptly reminds you it’s time to go.
There was nothing relaxing or peaceful about the entire experience.

Unfortunately, my experience was not what I had anticipated or hoped for. I bought a Groupon to check it out, and was really disappointed. The therapist only used one hand for almost the entire time, and there was no massage – it was more of a back rub. I thought for the $ 40 it would be worth having only a sheet hanging between the other people receiving massages, but it wasn’t…based on this experience I cannot recommend this place.

Great Service… I Highly recommend this Spa. It’s amazing you’ll come out feeling great relaxed.

UPDATE — This place is still the best! I moved back to NY and I come here somewhat regularly. The price for the two-​hour massage hasn’t changed in several years! A great deal and a noticeably better massage than some of the other no-​frills places that I go to in the city.

No frills, as others have said. But the service is not amazing, It’s just OK.
And I think the price level is not moderate. For that amount you can have much better, both in terms of ambiance, and in terms of massage quality.
My masseuse hardly spoke English, she did not ask what I wanted. I tried to tell her, but communication was impossible, so I decided to just go with the flow and try to enjoy.
It ended up being OK, and it lasted at least 10 minutes less than an hour. I was not in the mood to fight, so I let it go and left. I have no reason to go back.

It was ok. I don’t need frills or fancy décor, I just ask for clean which this was. I also bought the groupon deal. I have to say the message was just ok. I had to ask her 4 times to increase the pressure, and when she did it didn’t last long. Most of the massage just felt like somebody was rubbing lotion on me.
As a runner I love massages, I have lots of knots and tight muscles. I walked out with nothing being different except I had some lotion on me. If you really want people to get the knots out and break up the lactic acid there are far better places for the same price.

Great experience. The front of the building reminds me of visiting a friend from back in the day so nothing to brag about but once you enter its cozy the girl in the front desk was nice. My massage therapIst was sophia. She was great strong hands technique was on point. I had a couples massage with my wife in the same room. The towels smelled like chocolate lol. Very relaxing enviroment and felt so at ease right after the massage. Will come back for more services

Visited Graceful Spa this past Saturday for a couples massage. Overall great experience, clean, perfect pressure, nice people. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because the décor was more like an apartment with curtains than the usual spa. This did not change the quality of the massage though. Fairly priced $ 120 flat for an hour couples massage. You get what you pay for here if you want the full spa experience this probably won’t satisfy you but if you want a great massage this is the place. I will be back.

A no-​frills, low-​key spot where the focus is on giving you an amazing service at a very reasonable price. Be warned that the tables are separated by cloth curtains, which is not for everyone. I’ve had the deep tissue massage several times and the body scrub — I will be back!

The best 60 minutes couples massage. Sounds are perfect. The hot towel is my favorite. They should provide champagne for the couples.

My massage was great. The curtains were a good divider however some people came in and were very loud with distracted my concentration so maybe a quiet policy after people go through the doors. But I would absolutely recommend this place to friends and come back!

I went with a friend of mine after purchasing a Groupon deal. Oh yeah, if you purchased a Groupon, keep in mind that they charged an extra $ 3 for tax. They didn’t seem to have many guest when we arrived on a Saturday afternoon.
Located on the second floor of an old building, I wasn’t too impress with the decors of this spa. In my opinion, a spa is suppose to give off a sense of cleanliness and not make you feel somewhat icky with it’s 50+ year old painted walls and old carpets. In my opinion, they need a good renovating. There was a pipe with a fabric ribbon tide to it next to me as well as a piece of flat medal sticking out of the carpeting while I had my massage.
As all massaged beds are sectioned off with just curtains, you can hear everything around you. For example, my friend and I situated next to each other but we were unable to chat with each other because another guest complained about us talking to each other.
The massage wasn’t bad at all and the masseuse was great and checking with me once every few minutes if the pressure was ok.
Overall: A-​OK massage but not too fond of the decors and the atmosphere.

I found Graceful Spa in my search for closest spas for Spa Week and cross checked with Unilocal and thought it would be a great option.
If I could give half stars I would have given 3.5 stars but rounded up because my masseuse Julie was amazing! I chose a deep tissue massage.
Overall, the atmosphere was a little strange. Normally when I’ve gone to spas you fill out some pre-​info but it didn’t happen here. Also, the rooms are separated by curtains and you put a bath towel over you rather than a sheet. I was pretty relaxed but heard toilets flushing in the background.
However, Julie was a wonderful masseuse. She was very pleasant and got many of my knots out with the right amount of pressure but it was also relaxing.
Definitely worth the $ 50 for Spa Week but unsure if I’d go back for a full priced service.

Decent place. Friendly enough staff and clean facility but I’m not sure it deserves the «spa» name. I purchased a Groupon because I wanted to treat me and my man to a massage. I read some Unilocal reviews and came in with an open mind.
There was a small waiting area that we enjoyed since we got there a little early. First time customers have to fill out a short form (pretty standard procedure). After waiting about 15 minutes, I was going to ask the receptionist how much longer when she told us to follow her to the room.
We were told to strip down but leave our underwear on — weird but not unheard of. After a few minutes our masseuses came in. We were greeted but not introduced or asked if we had any special issues. Again, weird but not unheard of.
The entire massage was spent on my belly, which was unusual for me. She was firm but seems not especially skilled. For every part she did well it was followed by a sweeps of her hand. Nice neck massage then random sweeps up and down my back. Most of the massage was spent on neck and back. Work on my legs felt a bit rushed.
All in all we both liked it but didn’t feel blissful or wrung out. Not sure if I would be back again.

If you NEED a good massage, come here immediately.
If you WANT to be pampered with cucumber water, botanical oil blends and hot stones head over to the Mandarin.
Graceful Spa is the sister «spa» of well known Graceful Services on 57^th/​2^nd. These women get right into the knots and break up that lactic acid better than anyone. I’ve been coming here for years and finally needed to write a review.
Great for athletes and individuals who hold tension in their neck/​back. After 60 minutes *POOF* its gone. No joke.
The best $ 63 you’ll spend each month. btw– they are open until 10pm!

I took my mom, aunt, and sister here for Mother’s Day without checking it out first. Big mistake! This is NOT a spa. It’s an apartment with curtains separating the «rooms» with paper covering the massage chairs, a target bin for your belongings, and a creepy feel. It doesn’t look like the pictures.
I chose this place because of the good reviews and cheap price, $ 150 for 3 hrs of service. Since I was paying for four people my normal spa, Great Jones Spa, would’ve been pricey. I guess I got what I paid for. BTW, you pay before you have the services, never experienced that before, and I didn’t receive a confirmation email or phone call, which I feel is totally unprofessional.
I had a body scrub which felt like something I could’ve done myself with some store brand scrub. If I wasn’t covered in sticky stuff I wouldn’t of stepped foot in the horrible shower. It has holes in the ceiling, I’m guessing to vent the shower, it was disgusting. I also had a graceful massage which could’ve used more lubricant. At times it felt like she was rubbing sandpaper on my skin. The towels they use are air dried therefore they are hard and turning over is annoying because of the paper making noise and shifting beneath you.
I’m rating this place two stars because the massage was decent and because my aunt and mom, who never been to a spa before, enjoyed themselves. I will never return here. Now I have to take them elsewhere to show them what a real spa is like.
This was not a graceful experience. I can’t understand why people rate this place so high, it’s awful. But if you’re looking for something cheap, this is your place just don’t expect anything fancy. IMHO, you are better off getting a friend or mate to rub you down.
