Small and intimate. Kind helpful staff. Good $ 2 record finds. Copped Edith Piaf’s greatest hits for $ 6 in great condition. More leaning towards reggae/​RnB/​Hip-​Hop than electronic/​dance/​alternative. Definitely check out.

One of the best record stores in NY, there’s not many left in the city. I like the feel and atmosphere of this little record shop. I normally come here for my hard to find R&B funk, and jazz funk. The rock selection is also great. Sometimes it’s a little pricey but it’s all worth it.

An NYC institution. Ben’s at the desk, John owns the place. Cool little shop, knows their business. And meanwhile I’m not a vinyl junkie. My husband is. So glad they take care of him. When he goes there, I know I can do other things or meet him there when it’s time to pull out to go and eat! :)

The absolute gold standard by which all New York City record stores should be compared against. Since the word «curated» means nothing these days, let’s just say the titles stocked here are focused, italicized, triple Helvetica and all. If one had only an hour in NYC and time for only one record store, this should be the place — if you’ve been to San Francisco’s Groove Merchant, GRNYC definitely carries that torch of insanely rare records with down to earth counter people. A few years ago I observed a customer sell the owner a stack of records, thinning the herd as it were; what was surprising was seeing the owner give 100% store credit for titles in the pile that customer had bought in his shop. Treating the customers with respect seems to be working, as serious heat from simply great collectors keeps coming through the door. Pretty much everything is priced to move too, rap 12“s, og African pressings, jazz and academic avant-​garde, krautrock whatever, just a wonderful store.

Great record shop. Good quality records, and good advice if you ask for it.

Strolled in today. SCORE! Several good and obscure jazz records for good prices. Love this place. Records are little pricey but you may find a few gems.

The owner, whose name I did not catch, seemed very friendly and a good sense of humor. He wanted me to make sure I listened to my Aretha Franklin and obscure metal LP back-​to-​back… Which I will oblige.

As far as record stores go, you can get the snobby pretentious asshole employee who scoffs while skimming through vinyls.
The guy working was extremely kind and helpful and I was only there because of the Sennheiser promotion and he understood it.
I’m a hip hop junkie so the selection there for a shop that small was quite surprising. Found some stuff that I’ve never seen before (It Ain’t Hard to Tell Large Pro Remix single?!)
I’ll definitely stop by this shop more often and be a proud supporter of.

I can’t say I’m exactly a records guy. It’s not that I don’t want to be or wouldn’t be in different circumstances, but given the box I live in that barely includes a kitchen, it would be hard to fit record equipment in my apartment.
That said this place is awesome. Was just passing by and came in to take a look around. The owner was really friendly and knowledge, the records really interesting and the music playing great.
If you like records I’d highly recommend you stop here. It’s clearly a business run on passion.

A pretty small place, but you will always find a couple records you want, and they will be inexpensive. Plus, the people that work there are really nice. Not in a smiley, fake, customer service way, but in a dealing with you like an actual human being way. Respecting your space, letting you browse, answering any questions you may have. Can’t really ask for more from a record shop.

Good Records has been my first stop whenever I land in NYC, and is hands down one of the best record stores around. I always leave with something I’ve never heard of before or something I’ve been hunting for years (usually both). The selection per each genre is incredibly on point, and it’s impossible to leave there without bringing something back with you. My favorite spot in NYC, hands down.

Every time I hear the store name I have to laugh. Whats GOOD about this record store? From the few times I have visited this place they’re blasting music with tons of F*** words and N*** words in them. No I’m not a kid thats afraid of some cussing in music, but that definitely turns my mood off to hang out in this store.
Now to their record selection, or should I say lack of. I can look through their entire stock in less than 20 minutes. And in those 20 minutes I might see 2 artists I have heard before which is pretty hard considering I listen to so many different genres of music.
The one thing I do like about this store is the friendliness of the staff. For that I will give them credit for.

What a find! My teenager has been hounding me to come here, they have kookie hours on the weekend so make sure you don’t get here too early on Saturday.
We stop in its not a huge store but its packed with some pretty cool jazz albums.

The people behind the counter are super helpful. When you pick up and album, the smells of the album jacket, the big album picture and the sound, why did this medium go away again?

I want to give this place more stars but just feel they missed the mark by a landslide just on customer service. So far every small record store I have visited, as long as it’s not busy, they are more then willing to help out or give advice on new music to listen to. I showed up last week, was given a snotty look, and the 2 times I asked a question, I received very short curt answers. I know I’m not a typical record shopper, but I’m new and getting in the wave of things and wish someone would have been slightly friendlier.

I’m so glad I made a second attempt to come by… this record store is so authentic and at ease. I really enjoyed the diverse selection with moderate to inexpensive vinyls. Wish I could have stayed ALL day to scope out all the music! I purchased the Brand Nubian and J. Dilla vinyl for as a gift for a friend. Love it!

Simply put, this is a no-​brainer if you are looking for great vinyl dusties in NYC. Fair prices and treats ranging from dollar bin to super rare. Friendly and knowledgable staff too.

This is the best record store in NYC. I come in here pretty regularly and every time I find new surprises in their «recommended» and «new arrival» bins. The constant energy that goes into maintaining high turnover in sales and acquisitions is quite impressive, especially for the small space. People who are new to vinyl collecting may not immediately appreciate how pleasingly navigable the store is compared to other, larger shops. The curatorial vision here is very strong. Expect great recommendations in genres ranging from jazz, funk, fusion, hip-​hop, prog, rock, psych folk, gospel, disco, boogie, and northern soul. If you love record hunting for the exposure to new sounds that can easily coexist with well-​known classics, this is the place for you. It’s simply the best record store to experience that «Oh. Wow.» moment of discovery.
Other reviewers have mentioned that the prices are sometimes a little bit high, but I would argue that while you may pay market rate for «in demand» dance/​collectibles, you’re guaranteed excellent – bright and glossy – quality. These guys personally test and clean their stock. They know their inventory. And they’re not afraid to vouch for their product – unlike internet sales or more anonymous vendors in the city. They also have a ton of must-​have records for any collection at 3 for $ 5. While I may drool at the $ 60 12″ deep disco singles on the wall, almost all of my purchases fit squarely within the $ 8-​$ 18 range.

I can admit when I’m wrong, and this time, I definitely missed the mark on this record store. The person who helped me out (Jonathan, I believe) is by far the most helpful person I’ve ever encountered at a record store. I came back last month to delve into some 60s progressive rock. He turned me to The Soft Machine and Rotary Connection. I added in a couple of $ 1 records, and helped me out with a bulk price.
These records have been on my rotation since. If I had more money, I would have bought some of the rare hip-​hop records they have in stock as well.
What else can I say, but I apologize for the earlier bad review, and I will recommend this place ’til the cows come home.
