Global Leathers

I’ve been going to global since I was a student at FIT. They were super helpful with finding what I needed and are usually really great with giving a fair price.
Now I use them for small scale production and samples and they have great selection and prices.
I especially love Alex with the cute eyes and Youssef let’s me cut my own swatches ;)

Amazing selection. It is truly the leather and hides center of the universe. All colors, all textures. leather, suede, snakes, ostrich, stingray, laser cut, wovens. and MORE.
Give yourself lots of time to browse because it is easily overwhelming. If you don’t know what you’re looking for, it’s better for you to take your time and look at everything first. Once you get your head wrapped around the inventory they have, then you can have a better idea of what kind of help you need.
I found the service to be friendly and helpful. Alex was especially nice to show me all the pelts they had in a specific hide I was interested in.
My only complaint is they are not open on the weekend.

One star for the old latino lady that fakes a friendly welcome, but she will soon treat you like the worst human being. I wonder why she is still there (claiming she has been there 25 years and she is the manager) as she has tonns of bad reviews and clearly she makes the business lose one customer after the other.

Fantastic selection and Yourself was incredibly helpful. I will be seeking him out when I go back and I will definitely go back.

Good leather options. Horrible workers/​customer service especially the Hispanic woman with glasses. She’s the absolute worst and unbelievably rude every time.

Amazing service & a huge selectionof leathers. I went there to gather swatches for my shoe construction class. They gave me scissors to get whatever swatches my little heart desired. I felt shy, so got itty bitty swatches, since I didn’t want to waste any.
They’re there when you need help, otherwise you are free to browse & snip as you please. There are even bins w scrapes if you dont need a full hide.

Rudest women ever. God forbid I try to give them service and my money. Screw them I’ll go somewhere else thank you.

I won’t give a one star only because the men who work here are super nice and knowledgable. The one Hispanic woman, not sure if she just doesn’t like me even though we’ve never really engaged in conversation, is always giving me the worst attitude. She has the absolutely worst customer service and is extremely rude. Whenever I walk in, I say hello, and she tells me if I need anything to ask someone else and to not pull out the leathers on my own. First of all, I know the drill. Second, I didn’t even ask for help yet she’s already telling me to ask someone else. I was there last week and with the help of another gentleman, he allowed me the lay out the leathers to compare colors/​textures and she walks by and tells me to move to the other side of the table! Even though I was there first, she picks up the leathers and THROWS them to the other side and she picks up MY backpack and pushes it across the table. I’ve never seen anything like this before. Horrible horrible horrible horrible service!!! Only reason I go back is for their selection and decent pricing.

went in today to return a skin that just didn’t look right when I looked at it in proper lighting (the lighting inside the shop is terrible.).
the first gentleman i talked to seemed willing to help me with the refund, but he had to check with his supervisor i guess and that gentleman told me he can give me store credit because its been 5 business days and he doesnt do refunds. that’s fine i guess, and I explained to the man that it’s unfair to count days they don’t open but he dropped the receipt and said «that’s not my problem» and walked away. Seeing this happening… another man; Lou, felt bad for me and said he’d walk over to his manager and see what he can do. A few minutes later he came back and did the refund for me.
I don’t understand what’s up with some of the workers here but they act like they’re the only leather shop in town. after this experience, i’m going to have to just drop them to a 1 star. they may have a large selection but check MOOD fabric. MOOD’s prices are very good and they have a great selection as well.

These guys have gotten a bad rap for bad service and attitudes. They were friendly, helpful and courteous to me! I got a huge bag from the enormous scrap bins for $ 70.00 to make my leather cuffs. I say go with a smile on your face and you will get one back!

Very helpful. Very friendly. Spent time and gave me advice on leather even after I told him they didn’t have what I was looking for.

I have been here about 3 or 4 times and the service gets worse every time. I am not coming to this place anymore! The leather selection is pretty good but the service is AWFUL!
I was looking at this piece of loose leather and one of the staff told me not to open it and ask for help. I told him it was loose already and if he could help me. He said he was on break. It was so hard to find someone to help me! So I brought the piece to ask for the price and another staff member gave me an attitude telling me I shouldn’t bring the piece to him and to ask for help or I would be yelled at. I told him I was looking for help but no one was around. And who yells at customers?!! What kind of business are they having?! If they keep up with this terrible customer service, they will be losing customers.

Went all over the garment district trying to find real fur and discovered this place while desperately google searching. It’s located on the ninth floor of one of three buildings with the address 253 35^th St. They have a very nice selection and quality is not the issue, it is hospitality. I think the staff could use a workshop on costumer service. Enough with the wide eyes and blank stares. Open your mouth and speak and when you do have some courtesy? Sigh, New Yorkers. Who cares, right? Come here for the goods. Unfortunately I moved away days after discovering. I will be sure to visit when I am in town.

Good selection but The service and attitudes of the staff were not helpful at all. I was forced to look through the hides myself after asking the clerk where I can find the lambskins. I was trying to find one more piece that would match the one I picked out and after asking for help, I was once again pointed into a direction. The one clerk that was worst kept huffing and puffing that I was still there trying to find another skin since they were getting ready to close. It would’ve went a little faster if somebody had actually helped me instead of standing around with an attitude. I decided after all that happened, I’d be taking my business somewhere else… Leather Impact to be exact. Sorry Global Leathers… you could have made an extra $ 200 today.

Thank you Global Leathers & LEO! After having visited several leather stores in the garment district for the first time, I was so relieved to find this place. The selection is massive, the service so friendly and helpful. I walked in with only 45 min left before closing time and Leo instantly made me feel comfortable and at ease. I explained what I was looking for and what little understanding I had with the garment industry in general (i was on assignment, running and errand for my boss). He helped turn my experience around, handed me a pair of scissors to select the swatches, and pointed me in the right direction. I had a great time selecting and learning about the materials. I will be back soon to place an order!

I use to came here a lot to get leather skins, usually there’s a lady sales person there being very sweet and helpful. Until today, I came here for laser cut leather skins. I found laser cut swatches on the rack and this salesman walks by and shout out, those are by orders only. So I reply him with manner, is there minimums for the order? He shouted back with minimum sq. feet. So I told him, I am working on sampling right now, I only need 1 or 2 skins. I ask him to took out one of the laser cut skin piles on the new arrival rack. I choose and pick one skin thinking it should be big enough, I saw it had a 6 marked clearly on the back of the skin. I was told the skin is $ 12 per square feet, but I was charged for $ 93. At the moment, I assume tax were applied to order, but when I get back to my office and looked, he put 7.75 sq feet instead. Such a rip off.
I will never come back again, I rather have vendors source from oversea…

I love global leathers. I have my own line and buy all my leather from here. Service is exceptional and they recognize you by name after only your first visit. I strongly recommend checking them out! Beautiful things from cow to exotic.

Decent material but poor service. Beyond the point of being rude. To be honest, everyone else was helpful except for the older man. I asked for help to another person and she went away and came back a few seconds later saying someone was on their way to help me.
I was waiting for maybe 2 mins and the older man yells at me asking me what I want, to not stand around or I’m not going to get anything done. I tell him that I already asked for help and am waiting and I have to repeat myself because he started talking over me.
I’ve never been treated like this in my years going in and out of the garment district. Brought me to the verge of angry tears. I’m not sorry to warn people not to go here. You don’t get your money’s worth. Have some respect for yourself and go to Leather Impact instead.

I came here looking for leather as this store was recommended to me as the go-​to place. The product was definitely great but the service was extremely poor. The older gentleman who helped me was extremely rude, poor mannered and frowning the entire time as he seemed like he had better things to be doing than helping a customer.
I do hope in the future that they screen more carefully and hire employees that are more welcoming of customers whether they are pros in fabric knowledge or new and need some guidance.

I stepped into Global Leathers with: a pattern, a plan, and 2 decades of making, sewing and crafting experience. What I did not have was knowledge of leather, so I was glad when I was approached almost immediately by an employee. I began to tell her about my project and right away I could see she thought I was unworthy of her time. She didn’t even deem me worthy of looking at, so I just had to talk at the side of her head. When I uttered the word «CRAFT», her painted-​on eyebrows lifted and her face took on the most witheringly condescending expression I’ve ever seen.
After my soul un-​shriveled a bit, I started to say, «I know what I’m doing I just need a little guidance,» but she cut me off and shouted for a young man to assist me. Alex answered my questions, pointed me in the right direction and we completed the transaction without difficulty.
2 star for a great selection and the fact that Alex he managed to do his job — exchange goods for money — without being an asshole.
1 star for the fact that I got to walk away from that lady’s mean face, while knowing that she has to live with it every day of her life.

Oh man, hope PETA isn’t around. They’d probably ransack this place faster than Lindsay Lohan’s closet.
I love the large inventory they have here, and how very helpful and nice they are to everyone that walks in. The lamb skins are stacked and you can do a quality check on them before you buy.
And they hand you scissors to swatch fabrics yourself, without them staring at you from behind dark corners or cutting itty bitty pieces for you like Mood does.
