Dr. Gervais is a very nice person who is probably a fine pediatrician for simple health issues. But this fall, she treated my daughter for severe fatigue, nausea, headaches and worse. After a few tests, like strep, she told me it was a «teen» issue and urged me to force her to attend school. She also refused to work with my daughter’s allergist who was convinced it was not a psychological issue. Turns out — it was Lyme Disease. What is odd, is that my daughter is an honor student who never had emotional problems. Also odd, is that my daughter was mis-diagnosed twice in the same practice for«psychological» issues that turned out to be lice and candida. I think pediatricians at Westpark Medical decide something is psychological if nothing turns up on the first few tests…

We interviewed Dr. Gervais when I was pregnant. When I gave birth, we were scheduled with Carol Brown, nurse practitioner. Carol was very nice and helpful constantly following up and made herself available at all times. However, since I had interviewed the doctor and she had charged us $$$ we wanted to at least get an appointment with her. The front desk always says that the nurse practitioner does the same thing as the doctor so it doesn’t matter who we schedule with — that is strange because both degrees are different. We saw Dr. Gervais and Carol Brown a few times, and overall found Carol Brown to be more communicative. My son was very sick and colicky with acid reflux. Every evening I had a very very hard time with him, I visited the doctor many times. She kept saying I was overfeeding him, to limit my feeding, and that he cried because he was a high needs child. I should either give him a pacifier or hold him in a sling to soothe him. None of them addressed his condition. Dr. Gervais kept saying kids cry, its not going to kill them. After a visit to ER where they confirmed that there was nothing wrong with my son and he probably had acid reflux, I wanted to go to the doctor for a prescription. She spoke to me on the phone, I found her resistant to writing a prescription. By then I found her very insensitive. I found another doctor, she gave me a prescription, two weeks later my son smiled at me for the very first time!!! Dr. Gervais takes her focus on «natural» too far. If a kid is crying constantly there must be a reason, no pacifier or sling can cure that. My new doctor is much more communicative and explains things, and has no problems with writing a prescription. It has put my son out of pain and he is much more communicative, happy, and smiling today. If medication helps put someone out of misery, why not prescribe? Why let the poor kids suffer?

I have been taking my kids to Dr Gervais and Carol Brown for over 8 years and i am so amazed every time at their amazing patient care. They always call back within minutes of your inital call about a child being sick, and always always either get you the right medicine or squeeze you into their daily schedule. Additionally when you are there the waits is almost always short and the care and bedside manner of the Dr G is spot on and perfectly suited to children. Thanks for being such a great support system to families. Maria Levin(Carolina & Matthew’s mom)
