Gap

Okay execution of visuals, aesthetics, signage, and customer service.
Usually try to go in and out for specific items and go back out.
Seems like after all these years, Gap trying to stick with what they know while stepping out of their box just a bit.
It’d be nice to get notified of when their locations have sales. Just have to be hit or miss.

Terrible & outrageous! I bought clothes there and realized at home they only packed half of what they charged me for! Went back and talked to the manager Vanessa who said she would call me back within the next days — it’s been 2 weeks and nothing! I’m 8 months pregnant and each time i call they have an excuse to stall the issue more and ask me to call back later — or come by again! Really? This is robbery! I’m appalled by the lack of courtesy and professionalism and shocked by their stalling techniques in this matter! Who runs this place so poorly… I used to love GAP.

Pas cher, c’est certain. Surtout qu’en ce moment, il y a une promotion sur les shorts (ça tombe bien, il fait 30° à NYC).

This is an ok location. They usually have a ton of sales merchandise downstairs and there’s actually a Gap body department. There are also multiple dressing rooms.
+ Friendly staff… usually.
+ Nice selection of sale merchandise.
— Lots of stairs /​up and down layout. Also, the men’s store is not attached to the body/Women’s.
— Not a ton of merchandise but that goes for any retail store vs their online warehouse.
— Body/women’s lock their doors minutes before their official close time. They were rude about it. Thankfully, men’s was still open and friendly — apparently the women’s cash register clocks run 7 minutes fast.
Tip: If you’re ever making a large return from an online purchase, they won’t mind it nearly as much since it doesn’t affect their daily in-​store sales.

Went in here looking for a denim jacket i saw online. The store is pretty small and and the merchandise cramped in. I walked around and tried on the jacket i saw and was browsing other items but in the 15 mins i was there i was never greeted or even acknowledged. I saw 3 employees by the register talking but none of them even bothered to approach me so i walked out.

This is review is based on an shopping experience I had there around 2002/​3, almost TEN years ago, new to the city. I went in the mid-​afternoon after a conference held at NYU. I realize that I look young (even younger back then), but wearing business casual, with folders in my arm, and carrying a jacket.
Back then the store was a little cramped and small, all of their sale section was downstairs. I said hi to one of the employees down there, there wasn’t anyone else down there. He proceeded to watch me like I was ready to shoplift everything in sight. I got a little uncomfortable and tried to walk around out of his eyesight and continue shopping. Having worked in retail, I understand the issues with theft, but there’s smarter ways to prevent theft. I went back upstairs to look around. The employee was talking to a co-​worker and I said bye and thank you to them. As I’m about to head out the door, he runs up to the guard at the door. The guard follows me out of the store, runs ahead of me, and turns around and walks back looking at me.
I have no idea if they are on some search for some big Gap thief. I have a feeling carrying my jacket over my arm was an issue for them also. I should have walked back and complained.

They had some really cool things on sale.

I’ve purchased some nice items from this Gap. They carry stuff that’s a little cooler than some other Gaps I’ve visited. However, when I visited again after many months, they had these tremendous surveillance cameras all over the store. When you pass by, they say «recording in progress». Stop treating customers like thieves! Shopping should be a peaceful, relaxing experience. If they’re so worried about security, they should hire a security guard instead of these telescreens.

The Gap is the Gap — you know the merch, this review’s about the store itself. It’s always clean, you don’t see any big sloppy piles of clothes. Staff is friendly enough, they don’t bombard you with hellos and can I help you with this and that when you’re just perusing. All the new stuff’s on the top floor so I typically ignore the downstairs unless I’m browsing sale stuff.
I downloaded the iPhone app: SWAGG which gives you a handful of coupons, 1 of them being a 20% off your entire purchase at the Gap. Definitely came in handy — there’s always Gap coupons out there, no reason to pay full price.

Cotton, Comfortable, Quality– and now, Flair!
Gap has always had a preference for under-​stated, neutral colors, and soft, quality cotton (no pilling!). They have mastered beige so well that they have several different shades of khaki and beige colored pants– all unique, all perfectly mastered colors, my favorites being the orangey-​beige «Spice», and the 70’s looking «Honey Brown». This is what sophistication is about. Nuances.
Gap clothes stand for quality– this is not throw-​away fashion– these are classics that last for years. That being said, for a long time, Gap struggled to stay stylish and relevant, and was often overshadowed by their sister brands, Banana Republic and Old Navy at both price poles. Gap has really upped the style factor most in their blouses and tops section. My favorites this season are their Gathered Dot and Cascade Tie Neck Blouse and rather elegant, Parisian looking, Print Tie Cuff top. They’ve also added a line of urban fedora and floppy hats in several varieties.
For shoes, Gap scores best on their simple, USEFUL, ballet slipper-​like City Flats line, available in a wide spectrum of tasteful hues. Their open-​toe crochet flats also hit the mark for this summers trends. Their shorts are also looking good, especially the flattering Clean Front shorts (Super Mauva being my favorite color you won’t find anywhere else).
Gap has slowly and steadily moved into the plus-​size market, with sizes going up to 20 for dresses, skirts and pants. Their clothes also tend to be loose-​fitting and stretchy. Online offers a range of special sizes; Women’s Petite and Tall, Men’s Big & Tall, Boy’s Slim and Husky, and Girl’s Slim and Plus, and of course, Maternity.

I love the Gap and they were having a massive sale last week — 30% off storewide in addition to the massive end of season markdowns. I got a great skirt and dress for under $ 60 total. Very happy about that.
But the staff at this place aren’t terribly attentive. I was holding like 15 items of clothes to try on and nobody offered to get me a dressing room. When I finally did go into the dressing room area it was a complete mess. Every room had tons of clothes laying on the floor and hanging up all tangled. It was like nobody had cleared the place out all day.
But, I like cute, cheap clothes. And the Gap has that. This location was also not crowded at 3pm on a Sunday during this massive sale, so that was nice.

I am a fan of Gap, especially with the sales & discounts.
This store is neat on the upper level. Sale racks are a mess, but I find it a challenge to find something worth buying.
The staff is very friendly. Quick and to the point of where your wanted merchandise is. The store was closed & I was the last customer, but they didn’t rush me. In fact, I requested things from behind the counter and the retrieval was done with a smile from the cashier.
Overall, this is place is great for easily locating items and quick help.

This GAP is pretty tame. It’s not really busy like the ones uptown and the one in SoHo. I love how all of the Men’s merchandise is on the first floor. THis GAP has large windows and it’s constantly changing with large vinyl stickers that you can see from down the street.

I think this Gap is really great for men’s styles but not for women’s. I think it’s just a spacing issue; the women’s section is very much one of the smaller ones in the city. I’m never impressed with the sales rack, either.
However, the men’s section is large, and the people who work in this part are a bit more available and chipper.

no Unilocal,it hasn’t come to this. i haven’t run out of more amazing places to review… not to stoop so low as to review every gap in manhattan.

on my way to the elite event @ drom. my internship which consists of many dusty books caused my white shirt to be dirty with library dust. a new shirt was needed.
the gap came through and my shirt was replaced.
it’s good for stuff like that.

Listen up, Gapsters. You have a coupon on your website for cheap (er) jeans.
You have a customer in your store asking you about this coupon.
The correct answer is not to say «well, you had to print out the coupon so you can’t have the discount.»
Seriously? You agreed with me that there was a valid coupon, knew about it and because I didn’t kill a tree to bring it to you, I don’t get the deal? And I could just go home and order them online (sure, extra $ 5 in shipping, whatever — I’m still getting a deal).
And what’s more, your crazy layout made me feel like a perv* walking through the ladies’ section ’cause I couldn’t find the door to the men’s store and there were no signs. Just sales staff looking at me weird.
* — Could be worse.

Not that I’m a big fan of the Gap, but this is definitely their best location. Feels very non-​Gap inside, and everything seems to be marked down all the time.
Main downside is that they only have 3 fitting rooms, which are usually filled with very confused touristy looking people. Why would you come to NYC and go to the Gap? Go to your terrible local mall!
