Fetch Club

Similar to a few reviews on here, my advice is to watch the web cams. I left my dog here for one day and got suspicious when I called and they said my dog wasn’t playing (at previous doggie daycares he was the life of the party!). So, I signed on to see what was going on and saw behavior from the employees that was not acceptable. I saw a girl drag a little jack Russell across the room by his collar, his feet dangling off the ground– not only once, but twice. The second time she also grabbed his muzzle aggressively. The rest of the employees would yell while pointing in the dogs faces. A few times the dogs are begging for attention only to get yelled at or ignored.
Finally, when I went to pick up my dog– I heard one employee screaming at the top of her lungs at the dogs. Being a new customer who was recommended by a regular, one would think they would curb their bad behavior for a few minutes. It was uncomfortable for me. I took my dog out of there and never looked back. If you are going to take your pet here — watch the webcam.

Boarded my small and extremely friendly dog this weekend. We decided to turn on the webcam and record the videos to see if she was well taken care of and happy. What a surprise when I watched the handler on her cellphone, with her hood on instead of playing or watching the 15 dogs playing. My 12-​lbs dog was trying to get her attention and climbed on her legs… surprise surprise. She kicked my dog. We called immediately, and her attitude changed a little but overall, not the kind of love and attention I want my dog to have while I am away. Got back yesterday, my dog in good spirits, but having terrible stomach issues although I forbid them to feed her anything from her food. She will not return and you should reconsider sending your dog there.

Fetch Club is great. We board our slightly neurotic terrier there regularly, and it’s clear from his interactions with the staff that the folks there look after him and have a lot of love for dogs in general. The place is big and clean, and the prices are (although high) not unreasonable for the service you get, which is why we go to Fetch even though we live quite far away. Thumbs up!!!

When they opened, the owners were always there. Now things have changed. I should have «heard» my dog, when he would always pull me away/​in a different direction as soon as we were near Fetch.
A groomer on 7÷19÷2015 exploded in anger when we mentioned that usually they had taken less time with the grooming of my dog. He was in our face, yelling uncontrollably, then upon his return from getting my dog’s collar, he started filming us after what he had done! If this person treats humans in such a way, I can not even imagine how he will treat pets while he is not being watched. After discussing it with one of the owners minutes after the altercation happened, I did not hear anything back from them.
I will never expose my dog to this again, and will let everyone I know about this experience.

Fetch Club was one of the things about which I was most excited to move in the neighborhood a few years ago, I had seen it on television, and couldn’t wait. We stopped in a few times, then Hurricane Sandy happened, then it took ages for them to recover, and it looks like they’ve been back on their feet for awhile now, thankfully. But maybe their kennel-​boarding-​walking service must be doing so well that they don’t even bother with the retail area anymore, which is sad. The public area used to be filled with all sorts of selections, but now there are empty shelves everywhere. The employees used to he very engaging and helpful, but the last time I was here, I waited until the woman behind the counter sang-​along, loudly, from beginning to end, the entire lyrics of Stay With Me, and when I asked her for assistance she offered a few conflicting half-​answers which shows she basically had no idea and could really not give less of a ruff. I’m fine with staying away for awhile, stopping in from time to time and hoping them the best, but just this morning my dog and I ran into a woman on the street and said her dog had a wonderful collar-​leash combination, and she said «It’s a few years old, from Fetch Club, but they never have anything anymore.» So apparently I’m not the only one who thinks this. Oh well.

Fetch club is demurely the best pet boarding/​grooming place in FIDi! I was going away for almost a month therefore did extensive research amongst all the pet boarding places in FIDI. I visited several places and ended up picking fetch club even though it was pricy compared to the other ones. Fetch club has a HIGE dog run and day care facility and they keep it clean! The most important is that their staff are so friendly and the service there is incomparable. At day care, unlimited relief walks is included! Most other day cares just keep your dogs at 1 room… My favorite thing about fetch club is their web cam system. You can watch how your furry friend is doing ²⁴⁄₇!!!

I’ve been going to the fetch club for grooming services for as long as they’ve been in business and I’ve never had a bad experience until yesterday.
I dropped my dog off at the fetch club at 1 pm. Normally when I drop my dog off, the groomer comes out to inspect him and ask how I would like my dog styled. This time, the guy at the desk had to ask me if I wanted to see the groomer and of course I said yes.
When the groomer came out I explained that my dog was matted in certain places. She said she would most likely have to shave him, which I understood and even anticipated. She was the least friendly groomer I had ever come across. She didn’t smile and she didn’t introduce herself. This is not what i had been accustomed to with my previous experiences at the fetch club. I showed her pictures of my dog’s previous grooming and she said ok. I ask how long she would take and she told me about 3 hours. The guy at the desk said he would call me when the grooming was done.
At 3 pm I called to see if my dog would be ready before 4. The receptionist said that he would be ready in an hour.
At 4:50 I hadn’t received any calls so I called the fetch club. The receptionist said my dog would be ready in about 10 minutes. I thought it was strange that the grooming had taken longer than the allotted time and that no one had called to give me and update.
When I arrived to pick up my dog the groomer (whose name is Darya) came out and my dog seemed normal. I asked how he was and the groomer said that he was very hyper. Her English was very broken so I had to ask her to repeat what she was saying. I think this made her frustrated because she got an even worse attitude than she had to begin with. She said that my dog had stepped on the scissors as if it was my dog’s fault that he been cut. I inspected my dog’s paw and it was wet because he had been licking it so I wasn’t able to see any blood. After getting into a pretty heated argument, my boyfriend and I found out that she had only been employed at the fetch club for ONE week. When we asked the supervisor why we hadn’t been informed, she said that we should have. Apparently, this new groomer didn’t know the protocol which reflects poorly on the fetch club.
The groomer had an unsympathetic and lackadaisical attitude once she was being questioned. She never apologized or took responsibility for what happened.
Now, my dog is continuing to lick his paw and his private parts. I believe that he was cut there as well. I would never trust that groomer with my dog or recommend that anyone else do.

I had been using Ivan, Fetch’s groomer, for my grooming needs for a number of months. I had even recommended him to a number of people in the community.
I first went to see Ivan approximately six months ago. Ivan spent between 2 and 3 hours with Schatzy and looked great. Consequently, I went back to get a summer do for Schatzy. Ivan took care of him again. Once again, he appeared to be in good spirits and looked good. Again, it only took a few hours.
Over the course of the summer, I regularly brushed Schatzy and attempted to maintain his coat. As many can attest, this was an uphill battle, especially on rainy days, or after a session of play at Battery Park. Nevertheless, I spent a significant amount of time brushing him and removing tangles as I found them. I consistently followed Ivan’s brushing instruction and believed I was doing a good job.
Last week, I took Schatzy in for an end-​of-​summer trim and bath. Because he has a thick coat, I suspected there may be a bit of matting and was hoping to take care of it. There had been a bit of matting in the past, but it was never very severe and is an unfortunate consequence of the dog having so much hair. I do my best, but I don’t necessarily have all the tools at my disposal that a groomer does.
By this time, Ivan was no longer working at the same location and I consequently saw a different groomer. She spent four hours working on him. When I got the call to pick him up, I found that he had been completely shaved. Admittedly, this was a huge shock to me (in their defense, they informed me by telephone that they had to shave affected areas). The groomer told me that the mats were very bad and had permeated his entire body, including his face.
I asked whether mats so severe could appear so quickly since my last appointment. I was told that it was possible, but only if an owner did no maintenance whatsoever and it was highly unusual for a dog that was regularly brushed.
As I was quite unhappy, I pursued the issue. I coaxed it out of the owner that the reason Ivan no longer there was that he had been cutting corners with the dogs. Specifically, he made the topcoats look great, but neglected the undercoats. He had been found out by his colleagues and could no longer be collegial with them. Apparently (and others in the community may be able to confirm) every long-​haired dog that Ivan had groomed before his departure had to be shaved the next time it came in for a grooming.
I found out that Ivan is still working downtown and still grooming dogs, now at Fetch. Today, I went to Fetch to speak with him. After all, there are two sides to every story. Ivan told me that whoever shaved Schatzy didn’t know what she was doing and didn’t have the right tools. Of course he could have made him look good and he would have been mat-​free. He said that anything I heard was a lie. When I was speaking to him, he got very agitated, invaded my personal space and yelled at me. Peter, one of the owners, got involved. I spoke with him and Fatima, a manager at length.
What I learned is that Fatima had gotten Ivan through a Craigslist ad and Ivan was the only groomer working for them. It is less than clear if he is supervised by anyone with grooming experience, though Peter says there are managers above him. He suggested that I speak to a neutral groomer to get more information and I took his advice.
I sought out two groomers and spoke with them at length. I am keeping their names out of it, but they are both experienced and qualified. Two key points follow:
(1) At some point, dematting is agonizing torture on a dog. When mats are close to the skin, the only humane thing to do is to shave. Dematting should not be done for more than a few minutes at a time and can lead to ripping chunks of skin as well as hair — something I was able to confirm on-​line (I wouldn’t recommend searching on-​line, there are some very graphic images there).
(2) It is impossible to groom a 50lb sheepdog in under three hours, regardless of the condition of the coat. It takes an hour and a half just to dry the dog after a bath.
Thinking that Peter would want to know what I learned, as the neutral groomer was his idea, I gave him a call. I suggested he speak to one of the neutrals and then ask Ivan about the same two points. Peter said he didn’t want to «interrogate» his employees. I am not commenting on that.
I think it’s worth saying that I am currently contemplating legal action against Ivan on my own behalf and would also suggest that people who have had their long haired dogs recently groomed by Ivan get a second opinion by another groomer. It’s getting cold and if the dog needs to be shaved, better now than later.

I have always had a love/​hate relationship with the Fetch Club and todays interaction with them has solidified my option. On the onset, the love and attention they show to their dogs is sweet and endearing. The store is stocked with great products from collars to treats. You can get grooming services, boarding and day care all marketed around a hotel concept that just sounds to good to be true. Well — It is.
Upon signing, we were told that when you purchase a membership with unlimited daycare, you get automatic discount of 10% on the products that you purchase from their boutique. This lasted about a month or so and then all of sudden, this wasn’t the case anymore. No such discount ever existed. Oh well, not a big deal.
There are little fees here and there that make this an expensive investment. Mind you it costs about $ 650/​month for day care not including the membership fee. For example) They charge you $ 10 to feed your dog, even though you supply the food.
Now for the real issues…
In the course of 1 year, we have had to pause our membership 3 times due to our pet getting hurt, injured or sick racking up $ 3200 in vet bills.
Upon signing up for membership the dogs are required to be evaluated and approved before being accepted. A good practice to ensure a dog is well behaved, has all its shots, etc. Our dog was accepted and our 10 month old Bulldog/​Beagle mix was accepted. We had requested that he be placed in the small dog run, however do to his size, he was going to be placed in the large dog run. I was not entirely comfortable with this due to his age, but they insisted.
The first incident occurred during the first month when our dog came home with a scratch. They assured us it was common, especially around active dogs that like to play. The second incident, our dog was bitten and had a puncture wound on the top of his neck. We received no call or email regarding the incident and were only told about it when we came to pick him up at the end of the day. This was our first serious issue. The dog required medical attention and we had to pause the membership. It was at this point that we had a very CLEAR conversation that should any incident like this occur again, we MUST be called right away. They agreed.
It was here that the Fetch Club stated that our dog was a good dog, however he plays hard. They said he is picking up some bad habits from some of the larger dogs. Of course we were a little surprised as our dog has NEVER displayed any rough play at the dog parks or our in public. He had come from a shop where he was well socialized since being a puppy.
The third incident, our dog had a serious knee injury. Again, they did not call us and waited until the end of the day to find out. By not calling me, they took the option away from me to have him seen by my vet. They don’t recall the previous CLEAR conversation we had prior. My dog required a serious of 12 shots in the knew to avoid surgery therefore our membership had to be paused a second time.
After an extensive time not attending daycare, our dog returned and we asked that they watch him carefully as we want to make sure he readapts ok. The first two days we were told he was well behaved and had no issues. On the third day of picking him up, we were told that he was «TOP DOG» and was very well behaved so much so that they gave him the TOP DOG title for the day. THE VERY NEXT MORNING, upon dropping him off, we were told that he is too aggressive and must have training, which they then try to sell you with packages ranging from a few hundred dollars to $ 2500!!! When asked how this can be after the other staffers spent 2 days raving about him, why are we just hearing this now. The only answer she had is «he needs training».
This most recent incident, our dog contracted a serious upper respiratory infection that had him vomiting and coughing all over the house. The Fetch Club puts out an email blast informing all parents about reported cases of Kennel Cough and that it is essentially the common cold for dogs. I have seen kennel cough before and this is NOT IT. Our vet agrees that this is more serious.
Lastly, the thing that really gets me is that the owner of the Fetch Club lives in my building. I have seen him on multiple occasions and he has not once inquired about my dog or his well being. There are no calls from the daycare handlers either.
When addressing the 2 owners regarding all of the above, they never accept any form of responsibility. They are always very defensive and never seem to acknowledge the fact that at the end of the day, they don’t stand by what they say or follow through with their promises. It would benefit them if they actually ran this like a serious business than a camp for dogs. Had they, I am sure this review would have been vastly different.

We love fetch club! Our golden retriever comes here regularly for doggy day care, and the staff is so friendly to him! Every time we walk in the shop they immediately greet my pup and are so caring towards him. I watch him all the time while he is at day care on the online webcam they have set up, so I can see first hand the kind of attention they give him and what he does during the day. 5 stars!

I don’t know who was more excited to check this place out, my dog or me, but I suspect it may have been me.
We came here on two separate occasions to attend play groups on the weekend. The thing I most appreciated about this place as opposed to other play spots we have frequented is that this one is more interactive and stimulating for the dogs. There was a doggy movie being projected on the wall, both old black and white movies of lassie and modern animated dancing dogs. There was top hits playing like a night club (and it was so cute how some of the doggies would pause for a second when the song switched like they wanted to get their bearings before playing to the next hit). There were rock boulders for dogs to go up and down. There were multiple textures for them to explore (this rocky winding path, concrete, plastic) and stairs for them to climb. They’d watch each other do them and muster up the courage to try things themselves or do things together in packs. It was so cute to watch. They also played organized doggy games with the dogs (like musical sit chair) which they don’t really do at other play groups. It really felt like a fun hip pre-​school for dogs or something. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it while I was there but now that I think about it, it kinda reminded me of «Wizard of Oz» with the rocky meandering pathway and décor.
The place was also a lot cleaner than other places some of which are a bit run down with the dog traffic that goes through them. The floors here weren’t stained or ruined. They had water out in ceramic bowls near the drain area in case of romping dogs and spills. They have this vacuum system and they literally just follow the dog around and it suctions up any waste. It was all just very efficient. Usually the owners don’t get to be *in* doggy day care with dogs so it is always fun to be able to experience the facility with them and everyone seemed to be having a good time (the owners especially, if not more so). We did have to leave early, but my puppy slept like a dog for hours after she got home happy and tired from all the playing.

It’s like a dogs fairytale in here! They have cute little toys and cute big toys! For animals for any sizes they have a variety of leashes, beds, etc. a really nice and clean local pet store to hop on over. They are a tad but pricey in some items. And I was disappointed that they ran out of doggy birthday cakes for my pets birthday tomorrow but they do have sushi! That won’t help me but maybe for someone else!

We love fetch club! And the staff is super friendly and welcoming. They really respect the dogs and treat them like family. I highly recommend them for anyone looking to groom, daycare, or board for a night. My dogs always run right up to the staff every time I bring them in.

Very nice very clean. The staff is supper polite and courteous. However it is a bit pricey.

Being a new resident to the financial district, I had to find a pet store where they sold all my pets needs. I searched on Unilocal and I went to few places (such as the salty paw, spot, petland discounts) but I believe both me and my dog both loved Fetch Club the most!
Fetch club is honestly one of the best pet stores I’ve ever been too! The atmosphere here is awesome! And I think one of the main reasons why is because of their customer service! Everyone who works there is always so friendly and helpful, and never hesitant or annoyed to answer any of your questions! Also, they always show much attention, affection and playfulness to my dog, Broccoli! And thats one of the main reasons why whenever I bring him there, he never wants to leave! He loves Fetch Club!!!
Although I’ve never tried their daycare I hope to one day :) I’m sure my dog Broccoli will have a blast!

Just picked up my baby girl after her first day at doggie daycare along with grooming. The staff is super friendly and attentive. they really pay attention to the pups and keep everybody happy and playful! In fact they even called me halfway through her stay to let me know how she was doing since it was her first day.
Something else to note: facility’s are top notch… prices are reasonable and Anna is THE BEST groomer! I AM SO HAPPY with her new cut! I use to go to The Salty Paw but after today— FETCH is my new digs. They do everything!!! #bestever !

love this place. They really give nala a fantasitic haircut. Shes never gotten so many comliments. Shes because the neighboorhood superstar thanks to fetch club!
All the workers are super nice and have a sincere true love for dogs. Its a huge space with doggy daycare, nightclub and a photostudio! They also have some great blinged out collar and leashes. All in all my favorite doggy place in my neighboorhood!

HORRIBLE PLACE & WORST STUFF…
During his stay between Christmas and New Year’s Day 2012 our dog falls down the stairs at the Fetch Club. He is still under cortizone and anti-​inflammatory since 6 months.
On the other hand a dog gave him the Lyme Decease.
No one has found it necessary to warn us.
We learned by employees of Fetch Club that our dog has suffered for 10 days during his stay.
We tried to find a solution with the owner of the Fetch Club without success.
The case is now in the hands of our lawyer.
PLEASE KEEP YOUR DOG AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.

What a great place! I’ve had my eye on Fetch Club for quite some time because I liked their reviews and website. I had been meaning to check it out but I just hadn’t found the time yet. About a week ago I got back from a trip to Hawaii and my dog was boarded in California while I was away. The socialization she received there seemed to help her get over her fear of other dogs so I wanted to keep her on the right track now that I was back home. Plus, Blondie needed to be groomed and they have a doggie spa at Fetch Club, so I finally saw my opportunity to get her bathed while checking out all that they had to offer. I’m so glad that I did.
I took the «grand tour» and was very impressed. First of all, Fetch Club is as clean as a whistle. Unlike most places, they don’t use mops for cleanup which basically push bacteria from one place to the other. Instead, they have installed an Aqua Air Wet/​Dry central vacuum purification system to eliminate most, if not all, bacteria. To tackle this problem even further, hidden under their faux grass dog run area is a controlled irrigation/​drainage/​flush system which they use for a more systematic approach to cleaning up after all the little (and big) rugrats that play there on a daily basis.
My second impression of Fetch Club NYC is that the place was gigantic! There are many different rooms, all with their own unique purpose. There’s a room specifically for feeding/​napping. There are different play rooms for small and big dogs, old and young. They separate all of the dogs by age, energy level, size, etc. and the dogs get rotated from room to room so that each type of dog gets to experience the best of both worlds. There’s the nightclub that they use for dog birthday parties, mixers that they have once in a while for pets and their owners where the dogs can run free and play while mommy or daddy can have a cocktail and meet other cool dog owners. While the tour guide was telling me about these mixers they throw in the doggie nightclub room, I could totally envision myself attending one and partying it up with others that loved dogs as much as I do. It was at this point that Fetch Club NYC struck me as being one of the coolest places I had discovered in quite a bit of time. They also host breed meet-​ups in which dog owners can meet others with the same breed. You name it, they’ve thought of it and improved upon what has been done elsewhere. There’s the very zen-​like massage area in which you can schedule T-​Touch and other type of massages for your pup while he or she relaxes on a plush sheepskin rug listening to relaxing music. Too friggin’ cute!
Fetch Club is the best place to board your dog as the cageless environment does not stop there as it does at most places. I was showed the boarding room in which there are a bunch of beds and a tv. This is where your dog would retire for the evening along with all of the other overnight guests and a staff member (or two depending on how many dogs are staying) to keep them company. Talk about doggie slumber party! I doubt any of the dogs boarded here get very homesick with all the extra TLC that Fetch Club offers.
This really is a place you should experience for yourself. I highly recommend taking the tour like I did. And if you happen to see my little showdog in training there, make sure you and your dog say hello. Maybe our dogs can frolic together sometime soon because I was so impressed with Fetch Club that I am now a member. I’ve signed on for daycare twice a week plus walks three times a week. Prepare to be spoiled, Blondie!
Other notes about Fetch Club:
They offer a webcam (from all angles) so that you are insured to see your dog whenever you miss them the most. Also, they send your dog home with a report card and let you know what your baby was up to while at daycare. I often here that my puppy was playing with another dog named Max. I guess she already has a boyfriend. Too cute! :)
