Keep your EYE on the tab. I would’ve given them 5 stars for the fantastic conscientious service the owner and the technician gave my son and wife over the last two years. And they have a nice selection of frames. But when I went in last week, a third person at the counter tried to charge me over $ 300 what in the end wound up to be $ 130. First, she got the price on the frame wrong by $ 30, then tried to charge me for the lens even though it was free under VSP. When I asked why, she said they were polycarbonate even though I had never asked for it and she had never mentioned it. She also tried to charge me for anti-​reflective and scratch coatings even though they were covered under VSP. After I called her out, she admitted I was right. In the end, I paid $ 0 for the lenses. When I went to pick up the frames and I tried them on, she never bothered to ask me how they fit. She said, here’s the box and the receipt. She never thanked me.

I received a $ 50 gift card for this store when I had lasik eye surgery.
The service was very friendly and the selection is stylish, but it’s just a bit too pricey for me. (I prefer sunglasses under $ 100 since there’s a good chance I will drop/​scratch/​sit on them.)
Incidentally, if you want to save $ 30 here — I’d be happy to give you my $ 50 card for $ 20 :)

I have been looking for the perfect eye-​wear for over six months. Looking on-​line and visiting several NYC locations. One evening, on my way to Bloomingdale’s, I noticed Eyes on the World at 645 Lexington Avenue, New York, New York.
I walked in and was pleasantly delighted with the selection of Frames. The service was amazing! I told Anita the types of frames I was looking for and my insurance coverage. Within seconds, Anita had several frames on the counter and I had options… I never could have dream.
She made suggestions on which frames were best for the shape of my face, etc. She spent valuable time helping me with my selection. While being mindful not to ignore other customers that came into the store.
I would highly recommend Eyes on the World on Lexington Avenue. They were professional, knowledgeable and personable. After six months looking for the perfect eyewear, I found it at Eyes on the World.

Found this location as it was close to my office. I have been ordering contacts from them for over a year and have had decent experiences. I order the contacts and they usually come within a day a two which is great since i usually put it off until the last minute. As of late they have been sending them straight to my apartment which also takes a day or two which is great!
however– i ordered on a monday this time and was promised the contacts by thursday, so when i got home on thursday and they weren’t there i was curious (they usually arrive the next day). I called the shop about 6:20 as i saw they were closing at 6:30 and figured i would just ask for a tracking number (as a person who works in customer service i know this is a simple task). The man who answered the phone– who always answers the phone and takes my orders claimed to be the janitor and that he could not help me. Incredibly unprofessional as i know he was fibbing so he wouldn’t have to do extra work at the end of the night.
100% taking my business elsewhere– no time for rude unprofessional staff.

Really great service here. Prices are not discount, so if you’re not using insurance, expect to pay a bit. However, if you’re looking for quality, stylish frames with fair prices, and good service, this is the place. The only draw back is that all the frames are behind the counter or in a glass case, so you can’t grab any yourself to try on. (It’s probably because they’re on a busy street and trying to prevent theft.) But the sales associate is good about grabbing any you want, and will suggest other ones that you may like. They were able to offer me same-​day service on my prescription lenses, so I could have them quickly.
I’d definitely go back again.

Amazing experience with Eyes on the World! They have a great selection of Oliver Peoples glasses frames and Jessica took a lot of time and energy to help me choose the perfect ones. Not only that but being very new to the VSP/​glasses world I completely neglected to use VSP when purchasing the glasses and had to turn around 5 minutes after leaving the shop when realizing this and return. Jessica remained patient and kind and refunded me the difference that the insurance made. I was told my glasses would be ready in 7 – 10 days but they were ready in just 4! Can’t wait to continue my business with this establishment.

They are very knowledgable and quick. They look at you and pick a frame from all the ones on display and they are spot on!!! Wow. I was amazed. They really know their business and provide great service. I would highly recommend this eyeglass store for prescription glasses and sunglasses.

I’m rating Eyes on the World three stars only because I failed to do my homework regarding the anti-​reflective lens coating. I paid $ 120.00 more for my lens because I thought it would cut down on the glare. I noticed right away that there did not appear to be any benefit. I trusted they did coat the lens as they said when I ordered them. After the weather changed I started spending a lot more time outside in the elements. I noticed when the wind blew pollen and street particles it did not easily remove from the lens. It appeared to be embedded. I used the lens cloth. Within a few weeks I began seeing a cloudy film on the lens. This was much more noticeable in bright light and outside in the sun. Soon I felt I was looking through a fog.
After searching the internet I found I was not the only one that has experienced this problem with anti reflective coating. One site suggested I return them to the optometrist to have the coating removed. Rather than completely ruin lens that I already invested $ 505.00 for, I decided to do so. I was very pleased to find out that I would not be charged to remove then coating. I was without my glasses for four days.
At the time I picked up my glasses I asked if the lab provides Eyes on the World with any warranty on their work and products. I was told no. I said that I guess I am just out the $ 120.00 and buying eye glass lens is at your own risk. I was given an affirmative nod.
I am writing this review to let everyone know that they need to do the research prior to spending their money for anti-​reflective coating. Make sure you research the reputation of not only the retailer but their lab. Do they use inexpensive coating and charge inflated prices? I don’t know, but I sure have learned my lesson. Especially since I’m on a fixed income and saved up for four years before getting new lens. I could have had new frames too!

I recently received VSP through my company and was completely overwhelmed by the list of doctors covered by the insurance group. I made the decision to try Eyes on the World based on Unilocal reviews. The reviews were right! My visit was fast and efficient! The staff was extremely helpful and pointed me towards the contact package that was best for me. Dr. K was great! Very happy with my decision!

I was in NYC for a conference last month and one of the arms of my eyeglasses snapped off from getting bent the wrong way one time too many. This occurred during the morning keynote speeches. I had an hour until the technical program talks began. I used Unilocal to find eyeglass repair places within walking distance, selected Eyes on the World (which had good reviews), walked directly there, and they were able to fix my glasses while I waited. I have frameless glasses, and they had no matching arms like mine had, so I had them replace the bridge and both arms. It was pricey (about $ 325), but this was a better alternative than sitting through a day of conference talks without being able to see the screen. The staff was helpful and didn’t pressure me in any way — it was my idea to replace the bridge and arms. I was able to get back to my conference in time for the technical program talks.

I am bit of a hight Maintenance client. And and indecisive. I purchased a pair of eye glasses and didn’t like the way the fit. They Were all wrong. I pick put another pair with out any issuer. The people that work there are lovely people. Very patient friendly. I will always go back. And tell everyone I know.

only call them if you can explain EXACTLY what you need and/​or want. otherwise, expect a witty response on the phone.
however, i took my chance by walking into their shop and had my answers immediately! the owner took my glasses, examined it for 2 seconds and told me he’d repair them in 10 minutes. what???
i needed nose pads replaced and wasn’t sure if the actual metal bracket needed to be soldered or replaced– so walking into the shop and asking would be a more efficient use of your time.

Went in about a week ago for a eye exam and exam for contacts. i needed new glasses and wanted to try multi-​focal contacts. I was very happy that the eye Dr. also wears multifocals and was able to tell me detail the differences between different types of lenses. after a couple of weeks, i can say that i am amazed at how well the contacts work, and i don’t need reading glasses now when wearing them. I also got a new pair of glasses and commented on how crisp and clear i could see. they said my former pair of glasses wasn’t adjusted for my astigmatism, which makes sense. In the end I got a very fair price and can see great. I do get the VSP discount and chose Eyes on the World purely by location to my office, and was really happy with the result. The staff helped me choose a pair of glass frames. basically, they looked at my face and took out a pair and i liked them immediately. pretty much an impulse decision which i am happy about. my eyes are –6.00 each with the need for progressive lenses, so i really do need a precise exam.

Everyone knows what the markup is on eyewear so complaining about price is kind of useless. With that in mind, what’s eft is service.
This shop is run by nice people who are not pushy and they don’t nickel and dime you for every adjustment or repair. Though Cohen’s Fashion is down the block, It is these types of small businesses that seem to be fading away and that is a shame. Spend your money here, they would actually appreciate it!

Great guys. Glasses got unhinged and they were quick to find the right tiny screwdriver to put my glasses together! And it was free, even when I offered to pay!

So, I have been having trouble seeing lately and went to my Eye Dr. who confirmed that my already horrible eyesite got worse. My Doc’s office sells glasses, but I really wanted to find a place that is open on weekends just in case I need an adjustment or my glasses break. So, I have passed by this place near my office quite a few times and decided to try it out.
The woman behind the counter (Anita) was great. She took into consideration that I have a wicked strong prescription and helped me pick out glasses that would minimize the look of the thick lenses. She also helped straighten out an insurance issue I have with VSP (my eyeglass insurance plan). After about 4 days, I got the call that the glasses were ready and now I can see clearly again and I am very happy.
Go check them out of you need a new pair. They have lots to choose from and Anita has a good eye for what looks good.

The frame selection is just ok, not particularly great compared to other places in the city. As a previous reviewer mentioned, they take VSP, which is the reason I picked them.
The 2 star review is because of the accuracy of the prescription they wrote me. I entered the place knowing my prescription was –1.5 in both eyes, and left with a prescription for –1.0. I trusted the doctor, but once my glasses were made up they were not as sharp as the ones I was replacing.
