Exhale Central Park South

I like this location better than the Flatiron location. The yoga classroom feels big and airy (and zen). The locker room is clean and you don’t need to bring your own lockers. I haven’t used the shower, but everything looks lux. I have taken a few yoga classes — some were good and some were so so, but the venue itself is worth the trip (especially if you are a Classpass member!)

This is one of those snooty places which doesn’t care about customer satisfaction perhaps because by being located on CPS, they think that $ 150 for a massage is cheap enough for them to not care about anything else. I don’t generally write reviews but this one deserved to be singled out. I have been going to a competitor (similarly priced) spa not too far from them for ages. My friend gave me gift certificate for a 60min massage at exhale for my birthday and I made a reservation for 11am. I reached 2 mins prior (pretty standard for nyc) and was escorted by a lady who started showing me around, and asked me if I wanted a tour of the place. I was actually in a hurry so after about 5 mins I politely told her I’d like to go for my treatment. She took me around what’s got to be the most confusing labyrinth in a spa ever, to a locker room and explained the locking process. Except, the only empty lockers were broken and it took me 10 mins to get someone to find a locker which was actually working. After that battle, I promptly went to their zen room to wait for the therapist. Nothing for another 5 mins. Finally someone came, and I got started at 1120pm. When I was done, the clock showed 12pm. I didn’t understand. I thought maybe there was some kind of mistake so I went to the reception to enquire. Not only was the lady clueless, but she didn’t even seem bothered to enquire. All she could mutter was that my session was from 11 to 12. When I mentioned that no one explained ahead of time anything about their dysfunctional labyrinth and locker rooms, all she could come up with was ‘I apologize for the inconvenience’. No one cared. Neither the lady on the phone, nor my therapist, or the lady who was offering to give me a tour of the facility without caring to tell me that I’m getting charged for the time. Unbelievable. My advice — save your money and go somewhere else. There are plenty of high end spas in Manhattan which understand the meaning of customer satisfaction. Shout out to YeloSpa who are my favorite.

Another year, another fantastic birthday week rung in with a decadent 90 minute massage at exhale spa. If you’re on their email list, they email you a coupon for 50% off your spa service and 20% off anything from their shop day-​of (they sell yoga clothes, some sports bottles, candles, spa stuff like lotion and creams, etc.).
I had a deep tissue massage with Mary and I can’t recommend her highly enough. Asked all the right questions (injury, focus areas) and went to work. I’m always impressed by the skill of a masseuse, how they can zero in on something strained or off balance and go to town on it. Such a nice 90 minutes. I’m super zen… Hope it lasts through my flight to NOLA tomorrow ;)

I went yesterday for Isaac Pena’s yoga class. The front desk staff was so nice when I arrived, ensuring that I knew where everything was including the lockers and the class. I love that Exhale provides EVERYTHING you need including towels, yoga mat, shower supplies, blow dryers, straighteners, deodorant etc. The class itself was wonderful and I really liked Isaac’s hands on attention and adjustments.

When the classes are good at this Exhale location, it’s hands-​down a five-​star worthy place. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen.
There is a serious consistency problem with the instructors at this Exhale. Some instructors are top-​notch and others are some of the worst I’ve ever experienced. Julie on Friday mornings leaves a lot to be desired — adjustments and help are rare and she ends class 10 minutes early. If I signed up for an hour long class, I want to work out for the full hour. She moves so quickly through the exercises that by the time you figure out what she wants you to do, she already is telling you to move on.
Meanwhile, Alexander and Yesenia on Wednesday and Thursday mornings are great. Constant feedback, modification, challenges, everything you’d want in a good barre workout.
If it wasn’t for the stellar locker room, Exhale would really only have two stars in my mind. If I could depend on Exhale for a good instructor and a great work out, it’d be five stars.

Too bad it’s a great location and place but terrible and rude staff, they told me I’m too late to get into my registered class 12 min into only to try and up sale a different class for $ 37. Made a true effort to make it to this class and a piece of uneducated drop out «forbid «me to take the class. My advice go to Bare on Broadway at 60 st. Great service and classes. Or Gramercy Exhale but don’t waste your time on CPS. Unless they up do their staff !

It had been a few months since I had been to Exhale and I decided to go again on a Thursday morning at 7am for a Core Fusion Barre Class. The main reason I picked Exhale was that I needed a shower facility for after class and I knew Exhale had a clean and nice locker room.
The class on this particular morning was very crowded. I think every spot at the barre was taken. Yesenia was the instructor and overall the class left me unimpressed. With so many people in the class, I found it was easy to get lost in the masses and be unsure of what exactly we were supposed to be doing. I much prefer a smaller class where there can be some form of individual attention and correction. In general, I find the Exhale classes to be the most crowded of any barre class in the city.
Now on to the locker room. The locker room is a good size and offers great amenities. It is easy to get ready for work or another occasion and all the necessary shower supplies are provided. Most importantly the locker room is clean and there is an attendant to make sure things are in order.
Based on my experience in my last class, I would be hesitant to return to this Exhale location. However, maybe it was just the time and day. I will give Exhale another shot and hope for the best.

Went for Power Yoga on Class Pass. Front desk staff was great with check in for my first class there. I especially appreciated that I was given a tour of the locker room and told where my class would be. They have a «tea station» where you can have a nice cup of hot tea or clod water and they supply yoga mats. The locker room is very nice as it is part of the spa. There are robes, slippers and a full line of products includings hair dryers, brushes and probably everything else that you would need. I could see how this would be a great place to come before work or a night out. Not sure how busy it gets in the morning rush though.
The yoga class that I took was good. I have taken better and I have taken far worse. It was a vinyassa flow class with the addition of a few abdominal exercises, we did flow quite a bit but I have not been to yoga in about a month and I did not feel like it was a very hard work out.

Do you watch Broad City? The best way to describe my Fusion Barre instructor is that he was Trey from Soulstice. High energy but also weirdly critical and with a heaping side of nonsense babble. He spent a lot of time talking about discovery and imagination and immorality (???) during the 6:45 express class. Maybe that works for some people but I found it very odd.
Both of the barre classes I’ve taken at Exhale have been with instructors who assume that you know what you’re doing. I’m sure that’s excellent for the regulars, but not a good way to drum up new business. Trey (can’t remember his real name) was, by the end of 45 min, openly disappointed with how bad we were at his class. Notably, he did not ask at the beginning how many people were new (me and at least 2 other girls I talked to coming in).
The two stars are for the amenities, which are beautiful. The space is really posh feeling and clean, and the showers (if you survive the mad dash for them after class) are quite nice and stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Exhale provides towels and even robes. Plenty of lockers with electronic codes so you don’t have to bring a lock. You do have to wait a while for a space at the mirror, but once you get there, it’s worth it for the hair dryer and other nicknacks (cotton balls, bobby pins, etc.) at the counter.

Although the locker room area is a little cramped, the overall size of this studio is sufficient. Like most studios, they provide shower amenities and to top it off, this studio is quite clean and organized. To top it off, the classroom for barre is carpeted and surprisingly enough, it doesn’t stink! I’ve only taken barre here and it is definitely one of my favorite studios for barre –the instructors got my thighs shaking! I came out of this with a slight soreness, but one that you feel good about.

This review is mainly for the exercise portion of this Exhale Spa. Beautifully kept up and decorated, the Central Park South location lives up the Exhale name. The service and beauty of this location is what you come to expect when you go to an Exhale salon. The yoga class I took was phenomenal. Led by Allyson, this class tested my strength, stretched me, and relaxed me. Good job Allyson! Great class! Yoga mats, blocks, and blankets are provided for you. The bathrooms at this studio are fully equipped with showers, everything you need in the shower, razors to use, a steam room, towels, robes, body lotion, deodorant spray, and hair spray. There are also hair driers, flat irons, and curling irons if you should need. There are lockers that you lock yourself with a self chosen code so you know your stuff is safe. I can’t wait to go back!!!

Their Friday morning yoga class was exactly what I needed before starting yet another dismal day at work. Something about this location felt more calming/​intimate/​high-​end than the Gansevoort location, plus it’s a tad more accessible (right by Columbus Circle) so extra points for that. The staff here is also great, with everyone being super friendly and welcoming. The staggered class schedule works out well, so the locker rooms aren’t too crowded.
I just wish they didn’t sandwich a mellow yoga class in between two high-​energy barre classes (and right next door, too. the walls are thin, people) in the morning. Between the yelling of the barre instructor and the loud music being played next door, it was extremely difficult to relax and focus during yoga. It would have also helped if they capped the class to less than 15 people because it can easily feel cramped in the beautiful, dimly lit space. If they manage to fix these issues, I’d love to make visiting my Friday morning ritual.

Nice, big, clean gym barre/​yoga studio. Love their barre & yoga classes although I must say there are a few of the barre instructors that I think aren’t as good about watching the students’ moves. But the shower room at Exhale is really nice at well!

Finally have been here for yoga, barre, and cardio barre, so I feel that I can have a more well rounded review of this exhale. The studio is pristinely clean and it’s great that mats are provided for all classes. I do like the space for both barre and yoga, but as other reviewers have said it does tend to get quite crowded. Even if you get there early to reserve a space, you will likely be cramped into a small area around where you intended to practice.
I tried the exhale flow + chill yoga tonight and really loved the instructor and her practice. Definitely a good way to wind down after a cardio heavy workout the previous day.
If you’re looking for both cardio and toning, I recommend the barre + cardio. It was super tough when I tried it but I really enjoyed how I felt afterwards.
Core fusion barre here is okay. I don’t remember feeling particularly strongly about it, which is why I can’t give a perfect rating for this exhale.

This review is mostly for the yoga classes at this Exhale location. Although the staff here are all amazing — incredibly welcoming and friendly.
Tammy’s Power Yoga class is somewhat life-​changing. Her knowledge of the practice is great, and her tone is warm yet inspiring. She corrected me twice during class, which I loved and wish more instructors would do! I’ve also taken class with Nicole, who is wonderful as well.
I will certainly be back to this studio soon and highly recommend both of these ladies’ classes.

It’s beautiful but it’s one of those studios that have «made it» in the business sense n they sure r acting like one. I walked in for a class which I reserved from classpass and was 5 mins late for it. I appeared to be in a hurry to attend the class but I guess they had to give u a tour of the place beforehand to show u the new renovation they had, where the spas were n it felt like a marketing ploy which was fine.
Then this desk lady told me the barre class I booked requires a pair of socks. So I was like ok I will get one then. They were selling them for $ 14 each pair. Like really? They also would not let me in without a pair of socks. I didn’t have enough on me to buy so I asked what I could do since I already reserved the class. I asked if I could pay later since my friend is inside. They said flat no n no one of the 6 desk girls could offer any help. So I ended up asking r u suggesting I go into class and ask my girlfriend to come out n pay for my socks? They said it’d be the only way.
Ok as I already spent extra 10 mins dealing with this so 15 mins of class gone, i decided to just not go into class at all with this bs. They said they can’t check me in with classpass either coz I am not attending class. But I’m here? And ur service is so shit that I don’t even bother going into class n just want to get the fuq out of there? Anyway as I was walking in to get my friend, a desk lady ran after me n said I can just give them my id n go in with the $ 14 socks and pay after class. I said ok fine.
As I went into class, literally 2% of the ppl in class had socks on. The rest did not. So I was just dumbfounded by the whole bs they gave me outside. $ 14 socks ended up super shitty n kept sliding off my feet as I was moving or doing some poses. N I had to wait for some time to pay for those socks after class bc no one else but the same girl could help me.
This studio is there for a business reason and nothing else. It truly lacks the humanity side to it. Would I ever go for a spa there? Absolutely not. Why would I go back n pay for a service that treats u like u r in an economy class domestic airlines?

It pains me to write this review, as Exhale has always been one of my favorite studios. However, last month there was an incident at the Central Park South location that has me second guessing my loyalty.
My fiancé attended the 7:15am power yoga class. Upon entering the studio he was told that the men’s locker rooms were not open due to construction, and was instructed to leave his gym bag behind the front desk and take his personal items with him. As he entered the yoga room, he took of his sneakers and slid his chain (a family heirloom with immense sentimental value) into the toe of the sneaker and placed the sneakers beneath a low bench.
When he exited the class, the chain was no where to be found. The location of the yoga studio, if you haven’t been, is around a corner and down a few stairs. Apparently there are no cameras in this area. After repeated calls to the studio this morning, I became aware that the locker room was not under construction and there was a miscommunication between the closing manager and the opening manager. Basically, he could have used the locker room — and avoided this theft.
Exhale brands itself as a high end spa and yoga studio — and I am disgusted that this happened. Whether it was an employee or a another student, I am shocked that this occurred in an Exhale studio. It is devastating that someone would steal another mans deceased fathers chain during a yoga class. This is not the type of crowd I would want my company to be associated with.
I have since given this studio another try — as my fiancé loves the yoga classes and his favorite instructor teaches the 7:15am classes on Tuesdays. This morning when I entered the locker room, I would estimate that 25% of the lockers were broken and could not be locked. Obviously after my previous experience, I was determined to lock my bag up. I was SHOCKED by the amount of patrons that left their bags in open lockers. Exhale should definitely take care of this situation.
It is so unfortunate, as all the other Exhale studios I have been to in NYC have been pristine, with AWESOME customer service. But the CPS location just seems to lack professionalism (the employees don’t even wear uniforms!!) and is run down.
If you are in NYC and looking for a great yoga/​barre class — I would suggest the Exhale location on the Upper East Side. I can not rave enough about how clean, professional and welcoming that studio is.

I’ve personally been going to exhale for the core barre classes and my colleagues and I have been taking clients there for years as well. Since the workouts and facilities themselves have always provided for a good experience, I decided to try out the spa for mothers day (by purchasing a couple of gilt city vouchers) and have a spa day with my mother and I, before I moved to the other side of the country.
I called to book the services and the lady at the front desk advised me to do it online because they were «experiencing a high check in rate.» After booking on the site I realized it wouldn’t allow me to add multiple services at once (i.e. two facials at once). I called back and was placed on hold for about 20 mins and then had to deal with the ‘super busy’ lady to adjust everything. When I called I made it clear to the lady on the phone (who was not pleasant), that I wanted to add on a service to the booking that was done online for Mothers Day, the lady said, «yep, I see it, so you want to add a facial as well for Sunday.»
On the day of, I called exhale to make sure we could even use multiple vouchers for our spa day. At which point, they told me that my appointments were in fact for the day before and I was showing up as a ‘no show’ and so they charged me the value of the full service ($ 300), which is in addition to already spending $ 300 on the gilt city vouchers. They told me that the facial I had added when I called was still scheduled for mothers day though. Which means that the receptionist was too busy to say ‘hey I know you’re calling to add this additional service (because you can’t add it online) to your existing appointments for mothers day, but your current appointments are happening in two hours from right now“
I was obviously extremely upset as this was for a mothers day spa day and I asked to speak to the manager, who proceeded to give me the robotic response of ‘we sent you a confirmation email,’ not caring that I spoke to an actual human being after the ‘confirmation email was sent to me. They continued to give me the run around and forward me to the spa director, who had absolutely zero interest in the fact that this ruined a holiday celebration and that I had spoken to an employee about my booking, shortly after booking online and was under the impression we were all set. She continued to send emails asking me if I had received the email, as if we were in a court room, disregarding any form of customer service and again any kind of regard for human interaction after the online booking had happened.
Needless to say, I will not be purchasing any spa treatments from Exhale and have advised my colleagues on the robotic treatment and lack of customer service that is provided here. So much for a pleasant relaxing experience.

I’ve come here for both the core fusion barre and yoga classes through Classpass and there’s definitely a reason why the classes are always available. Given the location on Central Park South, you’d think that the place is luxurious, but the exercise rooms are tucked in the back in a semi-​basement type setting.
For both yoga and barre, space is first come first serve and definitely not for the claustrophobic. In both classes I felt like my neighbors were too close and we had to be really careful not to hit anyone. Needless to say there’s next to no individual instruction. The workouts are pretty good if you know what you’re doing (I had trouble following along) but I would definitely not pay $ 30+ when there are so many other boutique options around the city.
Towels and yoga mats are provided, but if you forget a hair tie you can buy one for $ 2.

I’ve been to the Core Fusion Yoga and the Core Fusion Yoga + Cardio class taught by Kristin Calabria — it was the best exercise class I’ve ever taken! She really pushes her students but has such a positive energy and the perfect mix of weights, yoga, barre, and cardio — I was drenched in sweat and so happy. The music was also bomb.
The spa itself is very nice. I like the yummy free tea and I have to restrain myself from purchasing all of the cute things in the waiting area. Also, the people who work at the front desk are so friendly and welcoming! It is really a little oasis on the park.
