Enoch’s Bike Shop

I don’t normally review (anymore) so here goes one that I think deserves my time and effort:
I have an adult motorized scooter.
My spokes broke.
Called at 9am on the dot this morning and William picked up and agreed to take a look.
30 minutes later I wheeled it in and he immediately started to work on it, even though he knew and vocalized that it wasn’t an easy job.
He worked on it for about 30 minutes, while we chatted about a lot of things.
End result:
A hand trued wheel (scooter wheel too small to go on trying stand)
Outstanding service.
Honest guy.
More knowledge and appreciation for bikes and shops and parts.
Confidence I can take anything here and have it fixed for a very reasonable price.
I’m a customer for life.

Have been here a few times from renting bikes to having one assembled. Great service and friendly staff. Worth checking this place out for any bike related questions you have as well! Price is reasonable for Manhattan.

I’ve gone to this shop a few times, always as a walk-​in with various issues. The mechanic there assembled my bike as well as the occasional touch-​up job, like adjusting derailleurs or trueing a wheel. He is always available and happy to help. He’s free-​flowing with conversation, has a fun personality and openly shares information on the work he is doing (you wouldn’t believe how many mechanics act like they have proprietary knowledge that they can’t share).
Overall a good shop. Quick, attentive and well-​priced. Would recommend.

The head mechanic William is a veritable bike whisperer. He was able to resurrect my 20-​year-​old Bianchi from the grave. Great shop. Thanks!

This is a great spot for bike tune ups and picking up bike accessories. The guys are friendly and often will take care of repairs while you wait. A few times they have refused to charge on minor bits. They are great value for money and the staff are honest and will not try and screw you over.
I can’t speak highly enough of this place!

As an avid biker and a big dude (6’5″, 240 lbs), this guy had the rare knowledge that I needed. I have a lot of trouble blowing out tubes and tires… well, because I’m a big dude. It looks like an NFL tight end riding a bike when I ride. The guy that helped me was also a big and tall guy so he knew exactly what I needed. He set me up with a sturdier tire and it has worked like a charm ever since. I’ve been to 3 other shops in Manhattan and explained this problem, but none of them were able to fix it previously. These guys are solid mechanics.

I’ve been living in the area and coming here for 5 years now. This shop has the best prices for labor and customer service, hands down.
For instance, I went to a neighboring shop to compare rates. They quoted me over 100 $ for tune up and parts. Went to Enoch’s, they took a look, identified what needed tuning/​replaced and quoted me $ 30 and one hour turnaround.
Can’t beat the great service, prices and honest approach to business.

These guys are ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ in customer service. You know when you’re about to spend some $ you want people to be just as excited as you are to fix up and ride your bike. These guys aren’t winning in the personality department but hey… they do have bike stuff.

I had a sneaky slow flat over the course of my day in the office, and Enoch’s is the closest bike shop. I hauled my bike over there and the mechanic was working on a bike. He asked if I had a flat, I said yes. He said «give me 15 minutes.» I waited about 10 and he put my bike up, changed the inner tube, discussed with me the reasons it might have gone flat so soon (I had just replaced it two days ago) and adjusted the calipers on my front brakes.
All the while we discussed music in NYC and departed record stores. It was a very easygoing and enjoyable 15 minutes. I bought a spare tube and a pump and the overall bill was surprisingly (and refreshingly) low.
While it’s not the most convenient bike store to me, I highly recommend it to anyone on the West side.

Fantastic neighborhood shop. I’ve got my flats changed here in the past and most recently my bearing. They finished in less than an hour, very friendly and affordable. I see they have some less than stellar reviews and just wanted to put my two cents in. Whenever I call or stop by, they are open. I commute on my bike and they saved me many times when I had a flat and would have been super late for work if not for their efficient service. Five stars for Enoch!

I went here to check out the shop. It is not located where Unilocal puts it on the map which seems to be on the corner of 49^th and Tenth Avenue. It is on 37^th and Tenth. On Sunday the shop was void of customers around noon. It is a small shop with a fair amount of bikes. It seems more like a repair shop and good for picking up tires, tubes, brake pads, etc. the neighborhood itself is very quiet.

Extremely Rude. I had a terrible experience here. Do not go here. Mechanic charged $ 40 to install two tires. I dont feel comfortable paying that much, and so declined the offer. And was rudely asked to leave.

I moved to the city about 3 months ago and felt a bit disconnected that I couldn’t find a local bike shop that I could count on. I randomly walked into a couple shops, a couple really nice, lots of selection types of shops but it felt so cold and corporate. When I first walked into Enoch’s I was a bit apprehensive but as soon as I started talking to the head mechanic William I felt right at home. He was extremely knowledgeable and knew his craft very well. The first bike I brought in needed a basic tune up which he did fairly quickly so that was cool. I have brought over 10 bikes to him since and his range of knowledge is great from simple tube repair to bottom bracket service. I expected NYC bike shops to be expensive but Enoch’s prices were very fair. The main element that is most important to me is customer service, knowing and working with many owners and friends of bike shops in NJ over the years they all told me that customer service is key and Enoch’s clearly represents that so that is why I will not go to Metro or City Bikes!!!

I rented two bikes here for the Five Boro Bike Tour. I had wanted to reserve in March when I got my registration and was told that it was too early to reserve (I’m not sure how it’s too early when 32,000 people ride in the tour and many places sell out, but that’s okay).
When I was able to make a reservation, they were clear that I had up to a week before to cancel without charge, no problem! I was also able to pick up the bike the night before which was SUPER helpful.
When we went in to pick them up, we were in and out in a matter of like 10 minutes and were on the way. Bikes were terrific! We had rented from Bike and Roll and the quality at Enoch’s is SO MUCH BETTER!!! I was able to do the tour with no issues and was super happy with the bike. Comfortable seats (as they can be while biking 40 miles.) and everything worked great. No problems returning the bikes, in and out in 10 minutes here as well!
Will absolutely be renting from them again.

Enoch the owner and the guy doing maintenance were both really nice when I stopped in last week. The only down side so far is that their selection of parts and bikes is fairly limited. I will still bring my bike here for it’s spring tune, and I’ll update my review then. For now though? A-​OK

I haven’t used Enoch’s a lot since getting my Brompton, since it’s a specialty bike only sold by three shops in the city. I got a nasty flat this morning (complete blow-​out, not a slow leak) from debris on the road. Taking it all the way downtown on two trains wasn’t a good option, so I pretty much carried it from the train. Only ten bucks, and not even ten minutes. What a difference from the insane price charged me by NYCEWheels last week ($ 28.89)! When I told the mechanic about that, he was shocked. «I don’t know how bike shops get away with charging such high prices for simple jobs.» Me neither!

I really need to update my review. My first review was glowing because I wanted to help out a local business, but a whole series of poor experience really dings them.
As much as I want to Unilocal local and shop local, I can’t do it here.
Here’s why:
Crappy hours. They never seem to be open when I need them to be. The store hours are haphazard and doesn’t seem to be consistent. Sure they’re on a slow block on 10^th ave and it’s not exactly riding season anymore, but I can’t support any business when they don’t have good hours. I’ve tried to come here at 10 before and they were closed. I’ve rushed home at 6:30 pm to find them closed again. Total disappointment.
No inventory. Ok, you might think I’m trying to buy some fancy schmancy part made out of unobtanium, but nope, I came in for a basic 1 speed 1/​8″ chain for my fixed gear but they didn’t have it. How could you run out of a basic item like that? That’s like McDonald’s not having buns — it’s an essential item. Very sad, I literally live right next door and want to use you for bike parts.
I’ve had a wheel rebuilt here and it took forever to get it done. They were radial laced hubs and it was a pain to work on, but every day I came back and kept getting the same answer, «maybe tomorrow». On top of that when I was charged, I got billed extra because it took an extra long time to do. They should have known what a PITA working on the wheel I brought in was and quoted me a proper price up front.
I wanted to give this shop another shot today and I asked if they could install a carbon fiber fork with carbon steerer. The guy flat out says no without any explanation and gets back to work. I asked why, and he says he doesn’t have the tools to do so. Huh? Seriously? That’s one service a bike shop should be able to provide. That’s as bad as an auto repair shop saying they can’t change your oil.
I’m not sure what services they provide here other than bike rentals and changing flats, but I’m definitely not impressed.
I doubt I’ll come back here. I’ll head up 10 blocks to Al’s Cycle Solutions since they were able to get me up and running in no time.

Bought a bike on Craigslist for what I thought was a steal until I
took it out on the West River Drive for a real weekend ride. That’s
when I discovered that the gears weren’t really working. As I cursed and walked the bike back home, I saw Enoch’s unassuming little bike shop on 10^th Ave. Expecting the worst, I asked Enoch to tell me the truth: Yeah, he said, the gears have to be completely replaced and it’ll cost about $ 35! And it would take about 10 mins! My budget and Saturday ride were not ruined! Enoch even told me that my bike was a very good vintage deal: «that fluorescent melon color is very hot nowadays» he proclaimed… A very chill, skillful, affordable, friendly bike shop!
